Abrupt, bordering on rude staff member, more eager to explain what they didn't do (tea/coffee/food) than what they did! Black hot water, described as coffee, served in a cardboard cup and a poor tasting pint of Abingdon Bridge (I don't think it leaves Loose Cannon like that). No plans to return, ever. Completely underwhelmed. 2 stars given for the location and decor.

First rate pub in a village in Oxfordshire on the Cask Marque Ale. a Grade II listed 16th century pub. This reviewer approached the place on a small craft via the River Thames (a very agreeable way to travel the Trail) to continue his travels on the biggest ale trail in the world. The beer? Two local brews were tried, Abingdon Bridge and Rude Not To, were both in excellent condition and well deserving the Accreditation awarded. Worth several more visits.

Was served by a wee lad by the name of Sparrow I think it was, who was very helpful and polite, he told me tales of the wild west that brought a tear to my eye and inspired me to quit my full time job at the post office (which I had worked for for forty-two years). The atmosphere of the George was exhilirating and I felt as if I had been reincarnated as one of the twelve disciples. Overall, was a religious experience that I would recommend to all.

Great atmosphere, always enjoy a drink in the nicely decorated bar areas, or in the beer garden - feels like you're entering another century as the garden is surrounded by old church and the old pub roof. Although food isn't served, before Covid they did delicious bar snacks such as scotch eggs - this pub benefits from not being yet another restaurant-pub.

A pleasant surprise this place turned out to be. It's a quintessential English village pub, very clean and presentable. Four of us called in to the George & Dragon for lunch, while on our journey from Southampton to a nearby hotel. We'd been caught in a traffic jam on the A34 for nearly two hours, so we decided to stop at the next country pub we came across. . . and this just happened to be the George and Dragon. We arrived late into their usual lunch time and we were met by Jackie the landlady, who kindly accommodated us with a table, while her partner Phil (we assume joint landlord?) cooked our meals. The menu was minimal but the food was just what we needed. . . it was tasty, cooked to order and great value. . . We were pleasantly surprised! I wouldn't pay too much attention to some of the previous (bad) reviews about this pub. I would suggest that some people expect far too much. . maybe what they are accustomed to, rather than to 'go with the flow' ! I liked the fact that Phil was dressed casually in.a short-sleeved shirt, shorts and beach-type sandals. . .especially as it was mid October! . . and Jackie was wearing a pair of slippers! This all made it feel like we'd been invited into their own home and were being treated to their hospitality. . and entertainment. We all found Phil and Jackie to be very pleasant and likeable people. This really is a traditional 'locals' pub but also welcoming to 'outsiders'. That said, I do feel that the place needs a bit of 'updating' and the garden area could do with a 'makeover' but . . .we will definitely make an effort (or even a detour) to call in here again when next in the area. A great 'thank you' to Phil and Jackie

I dropped into the pub for a quick beer with my son and I have to say it was most unwelcoming. The person who served me didn't look up from their phone. The bar was really unwelcoming to the point of intimidating. The language being used by the person serving me when talking to some of the customers was terrible. Given I had my son with me, the is not acceptable. Really wanted to find a nice place for a beer in such a nice village, clearly this is not the right place. I would not recommend this pub.

We paid £9.45 for a piece of supermaket gamon on a flat grill which was like a chewing gum, two eggs and some side salad. Looks like the owners are doing food themselves during quiet periods which is not a bad idea as long as they can cook properly which is not the case here. Also, not very interested in us as customers, somehow indiferent and this considering we were the only customers in that pub. Also, lack of attention to details. The stake comes with chips, we asked one to be replaced with side salad but they replaced both. We asked for mayo and ketchup and they brought only ketchup. Location is ok, garden is nice.

Don't bother to read earlier reviews - the pub is under new management. We arranged to hold a wake there yesterday after the funeral of my mother-in-law. For us the whole experience was faultless and having our own room was very much appreciated. A generous and excellent hot/cold buffet was provided – with a comprehensive variety of tasty food, including dairy free, which was enjoyed by all. Nothing was too much trouble for Phil, Jackie and their colleagues. So, on behalf all 40+ of us, we would like to thank new landlord Phil, Jackie & Co. Liz & Mike

I was surprised and relieved to learn that this place came under new management a few weeks ago. The previous owner almost ran it into the ground through incompetence (the fluxipub group owned by Gary Flux if you're interested). Now the G&D has new interior decoration, friendly staff, a roaring fire and a well stocked bar. So don't be put off by negative feedback from the past year or so, it really is a cracking village green pub.

Would have given zero stars if the option existed. They totally lack any interest in their cxustomers. We booked for a meal at 7.30 pm a week ago last Wednesday. Sometime after 6pm they phoned to say that they had power supply problems, would be unable to cook food and suggested re-booking. Fine, probably out of their control. We re-booked for 7.30pm the following Wednesday. When we turned up the pub was closed and some external decorators were painting the bar. We had not been told the pub would be closed and, according to the decorators, neither had a number of other people that turned up that evening. This is just not acceptable behaviour! We wandered a little way down the road and had an excellent meal at The Swan (thoroughly recommended and somewhere that I shall be awarding five stars).

Went for Sunday Dinner – was left waiting a very long time between courses with no real attention from waiting staff. Starters were very tasty. The Roast Dinners were unusual. After 2 hours, a plate of brown arrived…very dark brown Roast Potatoes (verging on burnt) with dark brown Parsnips, dark brown beef and dark brown Yorkshires, dark brown gravy and pile of not-brown green rocket in the middle (never had rocket on a Sunday Roast before). The rest of the veg turned up on side plates. One of which was Cauliflower cheese and the other was Cabbage and Courgettes (never had Courgettes with a roast before). The beef looked as though it had been reheated at some point but can’t be 100% certain and was slightly tough and grisly. Because the whole thing was very brown there the whole meal had an undertone of burnt bitterness. Overall not the best Sunday Roast I’ve had but not too bad either. Was a bit disappointed as had heard this was good now.

Amazing time at Pablo’s, we went after the Abingdon fire works and they happily greeted us even tho they where closing the kitchen 3 minutes when we got that, that was on us, my partner had I believe the bacon burger and ginger beer. I had the butter chicken with a Oreo milkshake it was lovely the only downside was the onion rings being undercooked but again our fault coming three minutes before the kitchen closed. Amazing service left a tip :)
