The George pub has now closed down Sadly , lovely Village and could really Benefit from this pub reopening and giving the locals a community Spirit once again. Such a Shame

Not worth the visit. Really expensive drinks. Practically empty and I can see why. No food. No atmosphere. What a shame.

Heard there was a new chef and thought we would try it out after seeing the new pictures on Facebook. We was really impressed with the quality of food & the service! One of best Sunday lunches we've had in a long time.

Had the Sunday roast, was more than plentiful and the roast beef was some of the best I have ever had. Waitress was friendly and atmosphere was welcoming, looking forward to our next visit.

Decided to come back post covid and give it a try. Food was lovely, my wife had the roast beef which is no easy task considering she is from Brazil. Roll on next Sunday, my burger was amazing, i'm not one for photos whilst eating, apparently the new chef is working wonders. Thanks guys, see you again real soon.

Having previously attended a Christmas meal at The George, I was looking forward to a meal out with friends but, We arrived to find Tuesday evenings are Bingo & Pizza night so restricted menu offered. Pizza only, no sides or salad available. Ordered 2 pizzas and then waited along with a group of friends some of which had also ordered Pizzas. No apology offered or advised there was likely to be a long wait. We patiently waited for the food which eventually arrived about 2hours after we placed the order. When a friend asked the waitress why the long wait, the explanation was the chef was late due to a family emergency and we only have 1 oven. Also worth noting, the Bingo was extremely loud as they use a microphone and I sat with my coat on as the room was very cold. Will I return to The George, very unlikely

Back to being a friendly country pub again. Fires roaring away. Lovely walks nearby with fantastic views from the Greensand way.

Food was ok. It wasn’t very warm when it came out. Stuffing was very baked up. You could tell the peas had been sitting a while and then put in the microwave. Wasn’t a very welcoming place more like sitting in a village hall. I think the most Annoying thing is the dogs in the pub. Now I don’t mind dogs in the pub but when they walk about off the leads and are either at the table or under the table when your trying to eat your dinner that is not on. Especially with children that are eating who are also scared of dog due to being attacked by one in a another local pub recently.

Visited the George yesterday evening , lovely to see the fires on in the lounge and people enjoying a few drinks with friends . A really relaxed and warm atmosphere one feels they are slowly turning the corner and bringing life back to this local pub with food available . Well done to all of the local support making this work . It’s definitely becoming our local once more .

The pub is currently shrouded in scaffolding making it appear to be closed, it isn’t. During their refurbishment they are serving a lighter menu of Ploughman’s lunches. That said, my Ham quiche Ploughman’s was one of the best I have ever had. The quiche was...

The Sunday full English was lovely. Local produce was very tasty and service was excellent. Only negative was it wasn't hot enough. Otherwise it would have been perfect.

Thankfully, now a 'Freehouse' offering a good range of locally produced beers, lager and ciders from the cask (steels) at very competitive prices. All the aforementioned and with a selection of delicious homemade 'gourmet' sausage rolls, chutneys, quiches and cakes to satisfy any discerning palette. A beautiful interior with plenty of space and comfortable seating to relax and enjoy a peaceful pint or glasses of wine. Recommended.

Lovely venue! I attended as a guest for a small medical talk and had a wonderful experience. I started with the mackerel, followed by haddock as the main course—both dishes were absolutely delicious. The service was impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff making the visit even more enjoyable. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, perfect for gatherings or casual dining. Parking can be a bit limited but should be manageable on most days. Recommend this place for its good food, great service, and welcoming ambiance!

We Shelled Out - We decided to venture further out from Rye to start our Scallop festival, from what we did last year. Situated further inland near Appledore, we found The Ferry Inn a dog friendly restaurant, for well behaved dogs, specialising in locally sourced food - perfect! We made sure to reserved a table before hand, as we found out that it can get very busy, especially during the Scallop festival. Nevertheless we had the full works, drinks, wine, starter, main, dessert and coffee too. Four people dined just under £240 not cheap but normal for today's standards. The Scallops had four options of flavours, which could be either starter or main. (See photos) We had mixture of those, all were delicious and cooked very well. That said there was plenty of other options, if desired including a reasonable dessert selection. The decor is traditionally English pub style, as you would expect and the service was great from the lovely ladies working hard too. The seating area was bright and airy with a nice covered roaring log fire to boot. They even had QR codes for free WiFi on the table map! Car park was a good size but can get busy with ramblers walking around the marshes. We even had a flying visit by a local helicopter pilot, using the helipad opposite! Overall a pleasant experience and would definitely visit again....4/5

Disappointing Experience – Poor Customer Service Visited Curious Brewery expecting a great experience, but unfortunately, it was a letdown. The beer-making machine had broken down that morning, yet we were only informed after paying for our tickets. This should have been communicated beforehand so we could make an informed decision. Instead, they were happy to take our money without mentioning it. To make matters worse, when I raised a complaint, the manager was extremely rude—simply saying, “I can’t do anything about it” and walking away. No apology, no attempt to make things right. Very dishonest and unprofessional behavior from both the staff and management. Would not recommend.
