What an amazing place friendly staff, great food, quiz nights and much more! I'll definitely go here again.

Unbelievable food, we had tapas, 7 dishes between two people was more than enough. The service was great and we will be coming again. A really good selection of beers, ales and wines.

We booked The George for our anniversary on the recommendation of a friend and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere both inside and out was that of your friendly village pub and we were greeted by each member of staff as we walked through from the beer garden. We ate in the restaurant which I would class as cosy, which added to the charm. The staff were tentative to everyone & despite being busy, they still took the time to go through the specials and answer any questions we had. On to the food… my husband had the burger and I had three tapas dishes, each was beautifully cooked and presented. The portion sizes were big, so much so that we unfortunately wasn’t able to fit a pudding in. We really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back to sample more of the menu!

This was our 2nd visit to The George & it was fantastic. Not a huge choice on the menu but what we had was excellent. We’d highly recommend the wild boar burger & grilled sea bass. Staff were very attentive & accommodating. We will definitely return.

Out standing food and hosting I could not recommend this pub enough clean, pleasant staff and pub we will be going back,, having ran pubs I am very picky and I do call a spade a spade we all love the pub, food,and staff keep up the good work need more pub's like this ,,,no boil in the bag food like all the chain pubs

What a lovely country pub! We had tapas which were beautifully presented and full of flavour. Service was friendly and attentive. We couldn’t fault it. Very good value too, £58 for food and two drinks each. I wish I lived closer as the steak coming out looked pretty good.

Had a fabulous meal last night at The George. Called up last minute to see if there was any availability for two, arrived a few minutes later and our table was all ready for us. Staff very welcoming and friendly, food delicious, prompt service and lovely ambience.

The George had 5*review on Tripadvisor so we decided to pay a visit. We had a warm welcome, delicious starters and even more delicious main courses. Our four-legged family member also had a warm welcome. Highly recommended

Absolutely brilliant! The service is amazing, so friendly, warm and inviting and the staff have awesome personalities. The food is to die for!!!! I had the duck bon bons, the duo of pork and lemon tart, all delicious, best pork I've ever had! So tender, fat seared correctly on the outside to give flavour and a slight crisp, the fat also melted on the inside! So tasty! My partner had fishcakes for starters and fish and chips for main, he said it was so tasty and delicious!!! I ate the dessert so fast that I forgot to take a photo, my pork also came with a massive bowl of fresh tasty veg (took the photo just before that arrived!) We cannot wait to come back, I must try everything on your menu!!! We also want to pop down for the quiz night some time!

Good location of the restaurant, Sunday lunch menu quite small, however roast has good selection of meat. Food well cooked and seasoned, great portion. Dessert was amazing, we had Lemon Tarte and Chocolate Fondant. Nice atmosphere and good service.

Not too far from where we were staying for a short holiday. Parking ok but on a slope. Reserved table online beforehand - was busy - got drinks ok, but food was a bit slow to order/come (was busy). Staff were very friendly. Food was flavoursome & delicious - Pie & thai curry. Generous portions. Shared dessert was lovely end to meal. Well worth a visit.

One of the best pubs in England. The food is mainly Spanish style tapas, which is amazing. The duck and crab cakes are highly recommended. The pub owner is incredibly gracious and friendly and the atmosphere was amazing. We were there during a Wednesday pub quiz which was a lot of fun. Highly recommended.

Went here last Friday with a friend. Best fish and chips ever. The minty peas are devine. Friendly staff with relaxed but timely service. They take time to go through menu options and specials. Managed to squeeze in lemon tart. I offered to marry whoever made it. Delicious. The place was busy but nice atmosphere.

Very busy place well organised the meal was great loved my food the service was excellent to say how busy they was we didn't have long to wait for the excellent food would recommend this place and we will be back.

Wonderful food, very high standard and imaginative menu, even for vegetarians. Service was impeccable, all staff were very attentive and clearly well-trained. It was a busy Saturday teatime and a little noisy as the pub has only a small space. If that may bother you I'd recommend you go to quite a time, well worth a visit

Came with my son on a Thursday evening as we couldn’t make Mother’s Day, so glad we did, the chicken in peppercorn sauce was outstanding and my son and his partner had the pie both served with a medley of vegetables 5 out 5 for food, ambience etc etc, we will be returning very soon, thankyou

Despite it being a late lunch the food was excellent. fresh. well cooked and nicely presented. being Mother’s Day the restaurant was still busy at 4pm however the service was excellent not and we did not feel rushed. We were asked to preorder but that just made the visit more relaxed and enjoyable. Clearly a restaurant that can handle big parties. Out first visit but not our last. Worth a specialetion was the roast beef which was excellent. Thankyou to Lisa, Lucy and Ella for first rate service

Young waiter explained the menu options as we hadn't been before. He was very knowledgeable. Drinks came straight away. Ordered the steak and ale pie peas and home made chips ×2 excellent choice. Best steak pie we have both eaten very tasty but massive. We will definitely return lovely pub. 5*

Nice cosy country pub/restuarant. (Not sure what else to say) 😅 Hospitality: 7/5 immaculate service! Everyone's well mannered, friendly, a appear to enjoy their jobs; (which does help) ;) Food times were rapid despite the growing service throughout my time here!🏆 Food: 7/5 Ghoat cheese tart had a good kick to it while not melting my throat. My main as known from me; (burger); was a unique type name, while the burger had an exquisite taste to the usual meat an patty. Afterwards came my cheesecake of the kinder Bueno. Which was incredibly nice a not overpowering! 🍰 I don't find many places with such value for a glass of milk. 😋 Layout: 4.5/5 This is a chain establishment, a it's just what I expected from the ownership. What's unique is its decor, and a good decent view of outside. Toiletries were not room temperature like the main room, and disappointed ther's no hand drier. +1 🌟 High praise for the Owner who: -Everyone and anyone is able to have a laugh with -Loves everyone's well-being, a satisfaction. 🫡 Leaving note: I almost gave my master rating of 7 stars! I can understand why everyone loves it. 🏅

Excellent food and very pleasant and helpful staff.

Honestly not sure what the high ratings are about. Between the three of us, we had the beer battered haddock, the wagyu beef burger, and the roast lamb. The fish was practically inedible, tasted awful, and the batter was spongy and unpleasant so that wasn't even nice to eat. The chips that came with the burger and fish were passable at best, for a chipshop, and even then they seemed soggy and a touch greasy. Most baffling were the so-called "posh peas" which came with the fish, and the vegetables that came with the lamb. The "posh peas" are simply mushy peas AND garden peas, mixed together, and seemingly some mint chucked in with them - which definitely does NOT go well with the fish as a result. Furthermore, when asked if it was possible to just have mushy peas, we were told that it wasn't, as the peas come that way before cooking. Given that the vegetables that came with the lamb were limp, tasteless, and like they'd been over cooked as well, I can only assume that a great deal of the food items are pre-packaged and not home made or cooked beyond shoving in a microwave or an oven for the listed directions on the box. As for the burger, I'm not sure it gets to qualify itself as Wagyu, given that all I could taste from the frankly extremely dry burger meat was what seemed to be half a pepper-grinder's worth of black pepper. When it wasn't just filling my mouth with dryness, it had faint hints of bread and cardboard. The bun and the chilli jam, and what seemed to be pulled pork in the burger were alright though I suppose, and as a plus point they do serve pepsi max on tap as opposed to coca cola. Shame that for the prices they ask, the food is abysmal. Two stars for atmosphere and staff as they were quick with the food and drinks (but prepackaged food is often real quick anyway), and the place was pretty comfortable to sit in, but the staff made no effort beyond the bare minimum of courtesy. At least they had the sense to not press the issue when they asked if everything was alright and we paused for several moments before giving an extremely forced "we're okay" just to end the awkward conversation we were otherwise going to have to have. Incredibly disappointing, we were just glad to be out of there as soon as possible, and barely ate much of our meals. Honestly not sure how so many people have rated this so highly, and if this is a one-off, and we just got unlucky, that doesn't help matters, as it means the variance is so wide that it's a gamble whether you'll get a good meal or a serious waste of money there.

WOW ! I came here tonight with my Husband for our anniversary and it was absolutely perfect. The staff were exceptional, polite friendly and phenomenal at their Jobs ! The food was the best we've ever had and absolutely not what we expected(exceeded all expectations)completely blown away ! Thankyou for a lovely evening! The young male that served us was very attentive, polite and made our dining experience. Sundat Lunch Very Good. Roast Beef cooked by someone who knows what they are doing. Beef is served pink, as the menu said, but other than that, every element of the meal was great. Good choice of drinks as well

Another excellent find via TripAdvisor... coming into the area for an event in Sheffield but plans to stop on way elsewhere fell through so checked out TripAdvisor and went with recommendation to go here. Fantastic decision. Amazing food, great service which was timely and meant we were also not delayed for our onward adventures. Want to get the chance to go back so other half can try the pie Which looked fantastic but a little large! We had a mixture of kids menu and small plates and were not disappointed. 23 people came for a birthday meal.... we had the world biggest Karen with us and.... shock.... even she. Did. Not. Have. Anything to complain about 🙈😱 honestly. 15 years I've been in this family and she moans more than mona the vampire. Craig, everytime I get off the phone I can't say enough how lovely you are. Great service and wonderful food, went for a local walk and had lunch at The George. I had the Steak pie and chips very nice and my wife had the curry which she was impressed with too.

Would strongly recommend The George at Clay Cross. We have just eaten the best Sunday lunch. The beef was perfection, so tasty. My partner chose the fish option which was equally delicious. The potatoes were so buttery and the roast potatoes were golden and crispy together with a good selection of vegetables. Home made cheesecake 😋 . If you enjoy good food The George at Clay Cross is the place to go.

Just one reason I couldn’t give this 5/5 and in truth there is nothing The George can do about this (I believe) and this is the parking they have what they have but it was a challenge for my disabled dad if I could make the score 4.5/5 I would have. Onto the important stuff the food and service. One of my wife’s favourite venues is the Magpie cafe at Whitby where she loves the monkfish bites. At The George she had fish and chips with posh peas. Her comment was it was as good as the Magpie and that is some praise from Mrs B. Dad had ham, egg and chips which is his go to staple, he also enjoyed this and was able to take the ham he could not eat home for a sarnie so a great result. I had home made pie, chips posh peas and gravy which was packed with meat and very tasty. The service was with a smile very pleasant and the experience is one we will repeat without a doubt. Everything more than satisfactory just a small issue with the parking. Lisa and Craig made us feel very welcome and the “spressy marts” were a perfect finish to our meal.

After our visit Christmas Eve last year which left us underwhelmed (due to poorly located table, draft and largely ignored by service staff), thought we'd try again this Christmas... So glad we did. Craig and his team are fantastic! Super friendly, super efficient, fast quality service. The food was good last time, and again it delivered, BIG TIME. Scorching hot, well presented, tasty as hell and plenty of it. I'm still stuffed over 12 hours later. Can't recommend The George highly enough. Thanks guys for a brilliant meal x

Sorry, it’s a no go. My steak and ale pie was reheated so much the pastry was hard and the leather on my boots was softer than the beef. When I found a soft piece of beef it was so salty it couldn’t be eaten, and no brown sauce. Chips were soggy. Also, I sat 4’ from the waiters station, when I got there, there was a refuge sack full of something on the floor that everyone was tripping over, when I got up to leave, the refuge sack still sat on the floor

This was our first time visiting the George and we'll definitely be going back! The food was absolutely lovely, especially the steak & ale pie. We also had dessert even though we were all stuffed, highly recommended the chocolate n orange cheesecake... divine. Lisa who served us was so lovely and welcoming and the place has a great atmosphere. We'd highly recommend going!!

The George had been very helpful in tailoring a special meal for 1 of the party who has quite a few dietary requirements. All our meals were lovely and tasty as demonstrated by all our clear plates. We were very well looked after by Lucy and her friendly and efficient team. Lovely evening. Thank you The George.

If you want wholesome food at a reasonable cost with friendly welcomming service (Lisa) then if in the area I can highly recommend The George. My colleague and I had the homemade steak Pie which was excellent. We had originally tried the sister pub also in Clay Cross, but found it full. Again a friendly waitress dirested us the The George and we were not at all disappointed. Well done and thank you to all of the staff at these two establishments.

Had Sunday Roast here. Really tasty and great sized meals. We had beef, chicken and veggie option (spiced cauliflower and lentil pie). Only two roast pots per plate but you get mash plus a big bowl of seasonal veg for the table. Gravy very tasty too. I can't remember the last time I struggled to finish a meal (veggie pie)!

Lovely place, beautiful food, polite & helpful staff. I've known the owner for many years, he's a local guy, whose very polite & friendly. The duck confit bonbons starter is gorgeous, comes with bits of spring onion, cucumber & hoisin sauce, tastes like the duck from Chinese that comes with little pancakes. And the Blade of Beef main course is absolutely beautiful, sooo soft, it falls apart soon as the fork touches it, similar to Braised steak but a better, more luxurious version. And they do lovely liqueur coffees, we always have 1 with Tia Maria after food...that's only 1 we like, I've never been a fan of alcohol but Tia Maria in coffee doesn't taste boozy, it's just sweet.

Heard great reviews about this place and it certainly didn't disappoint. Wide choice of dishes including a dozen or more small plates/tapas however we both chose the pie which was superb. Will be back soon for more for sure
