The George in Wiltshire

This is handy for the hotel we were staying in. The staff were friendly and it appears popular but we were there early evening. They were offering a steak and chips dinner with trimmings and we both had that, When it arrived the steak was cooked as requested (given my wife and I don't agree on how to cook steak that's an achievement, The dining room was clean and you can see into the kitchen which was immaculate. To finish we had a "fig mess" figs replacing strawberries not the prettiest as the name suggests but the flavour was lovely

Wonderful birthday meal, beautiful food for our grown up son’s celebration meal. He is a chef so has high standards and he was very impressed as were we. Lovely friendly service and absolutely delicious across all three courses. Thank you for a great evening.

Normally highly recommended and has been our go to place for the last couple of years. Was here end of august with family fantastic meal and night great quality tasty food. I always however judge a restaurant on when things don't go to well. So we arrived and was quickly shown to our table No Steak No Burgers as my good lady is allergic to fish we had a choice of pigeon or chicken which was disappointing. However I recommended to everyone the chicken raved about how good it was two weeks previous. It arrived and was still pink in places with half a courgette with no topping like previous meal one green stick and half a carrot (small) and one small potato. It was very disappointing and in complete contrast to the previous meal. Normally I don't complain however on this occasion considering that these are £23 a dish I decided to. I listed that i wasn't pleased the portions were very small the chicken wasn't cooked the greatest and I was unhappy after a wonderful meal just two weeks previous. The lady went up and told the chefs who were in our earshot and eyeline and they shrugged there shoulders and continued on with there work. I was then told that the chefs apologised and due to the unhappiness I had expressed they would be open to offering me 1 free desert........ So with 4 of us there and a bill on main meals alone of just shy of a 100 pound i was offered a free pudding at an approx. cost to the restaurant of £2 maybe £3 i was insulted to say the least I refused the wonderfully generous offer..... Unfortunately it irritated me more and more as I sat there and I decided to leave before anyone had there deserts as I didn't want to cause a scene. Which but a downside on everyone's evening. As a regular customer who has eaten there on numerous occasions I felt offended and insulted that my genuine complaint was brushed away with a paltry offer of a desert. And no real apology. As stated at the start it's when things go wrong you see the real restaurant. And I won't be coming back in a hurry.

We hadn’t returned to the george since a disappointing lunch last year, but we had a friend visiting and made a last minute decision to pop round to our nearest restaurant and bar. The evening meal was very good, nice tender tasty pigeon and a super fish dish. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient, we’ll go again and are pleased that the george has got its mojo back.

We were staying in the area & passed this pub a couple of times when walking the dogs. Eventually I decided to pop in to have a look & potentially book a table for dinner. What a nice surprise as the interior is so welcoming. We returned for dinner that evening (with our dogs) & were so glad we did. The food was fantastic & the staff so efficient & friendly. We would definitely go back next time we’re in the area.

Went for dinner with friends. Could not fault the food or the service and the pub has a lovely ambiance. We had Liver parfait with toasts and fish cakes starters. And Panchetta with black pudding and pigeon for mains . Crumble and chocolate brownie for dessert. It was all very good. The wine was good. The staff were very professional and pleasant . It’s not our first visit and will definitely return. Thanks for great night.

The menu wasn't excessively long, but it was just that bit more imaginative. Prices were fair and service was pleasant, without being intrusive. Definitely a cut above most. Will be happy to return.

My wife & I plus our two woofers have just had a wonderful 2 night stay at the George Pub Wooley which is just a brisk 20 minute walk outside Bradford on Avon . We stayed in the Rosemary Suite which had its own separate little dining & living room to our ensuite bedroom. We decided to dine in on our first night & the food & service was top notch. The breakfasts we had were plenty & our host each morning was very polite & enthusiastic. Great for the dogs as there were plenty of options for dog routes outside the pub. We will definitely be returning

My daughter & I had dinner here last Thursday evening. First impressions were a lovely friendly atmosphere. The food was excellent. Not cheap but as good as any restaurant. We both had the sea bream which was cooked perfectly then shared the Creme Brulé. Wow & the gin ice cream was superb.

Omg, I loved it! To start with the decor and ambiance of the place was really homely and welcoming as were the people, friendly and funny too. As a vegetarian I don’t usually love halloumi burgers but this one was divine, gorgeous chips as well. When I visited they had some really interesting ice cream flavours, I had rhubarb and after eight, gorgeous!! I would totally visit again especially considering how dog friendly they were, truly amazing. x

I've just come back from a lovely stay at The George and can whole heartedly recommend it. The accommodation is first class, impeccably clean and well appointed, with it's on kitchen and dining area, separate from the bedroom. Breakfast was first class, served by very attentive and obliging staff. We were so impressed we even stayed for an evening meal, which was again outstanding. Overall excellent value for money and a brilliant place to stay if you're exploring the surrounding area. Thank you for a lovely stay. We will definitely be returning.

We took our friends here to introduce them to the best food in Bradford on Avon! They had just moved into town and have tried a few places around the area already! Nothing compared to the food we had on Friday night, such amazing food all round! I had the gnocchi, my partner the burger and our friends had the chicken and the venison! Such friendly and welcoming staff who accommodated us even though we did not have a reservation and very busy! We loved it so much we went back for a Sunday roast a few days later! 100% recommended!

We enjoyed a fantastic meal at the George. Starters, mains and deserts were all delicious and plentiful, but the stand out dish was the chicken. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I haven’t enjoyed a chicken main as much for a long time! Service was friendly, and although the restaurant was very busy, we weren’t kept waiting for our courses. Since the reopening, this lovely pub / restaurant has got better and better. We’ve usually just popped in for a drink with the dog, but will definitely be back to eat again!

Our longstanding table reservation, subsequently confirmed to ensure we had a particular table, was not honoured. Instead we were relegated to a noisy, hot room in front of the open kitchen, where we were able to view the chef plating food with his fingers . Average Sunday lunch. We will not return. Better places in the area.

My wife & I chose the George after reading the review’s and deciding we wanted to visit Bradford-on-Avon . It was a pleasant walk into the town.The suite we had was very large well decorated and spotlessly clean , there was a great atmosphere in the bar & restaurant both our evening meal and breakfast were very well presented and delicious.The staff throughout could not be more helpful and friendly . Well done and thanks to you all 😊

Visited The George for Sunday lunch and a couple of pints. Out standing food and service. There is a great atmosphere in this friendly pub created by the waiting and bar staff. The open kitchen gives a great insight into the workings of a busy establishment and is at the Centre of one of the dinning areas. With Sun soon to shine I will be heading for the beer garden for a pint ........hopefuly soon.

My wife and I stayed for three nights this week, on arrival Mark showed us to our lovely bedroom complete with easy chairs,we were even more delighted when he showed us upstairs to our sitting room with a dining area and kitchen. The bar is comfortable and has a good selection of beers, after a very enjoyable pint of Butcombes we sat down to a memorable meal, Adam the chef is a) a very pleasant chap and b) an outstanding cook. The staff, Jo,Mark2, Alice et al were all so friendly it was one of best short breaks we have had. Looking forward to returning.

Cannot rate The George highly enough ! Very friendly and attentive staff, cannot remember when we last received this level of service. After relaxing on one of the comfy settees with a drink (or two) we moved into the dining area which had a lovely atmosphere. The food was excellent ! Would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Excellent pub - cannot fault! Welcoming friendly great service & excellent delicious food. Wish we lived locally to be regulars. I had the pork chop which was huge and came with parsnips and butternut squash and greens and my husband had the chicken supreme. We both ate every single bit of it! Much better food than a hotel just up the road. Kids menu is varied and tasty. The bar area looked inviting aswell. Hopefully we will be in the area to return again! Thank you for a lovely meal.

We dined at the George on a Friday evening with 2 young children. The staff as we arrived were friendly and welcoming, invited us for a drink before our meal. We sat to eat and our waiter was attentive, great with the kids and informative about the menu. My husband had a main meal of mussels and said they were delicious, best he’s had in a long time. I enjoyed the short rib of beef, it literally melt in my mouth. It was the perfect portion size and the gravy was amazing! We are tempted to go back again tomorrow for dinner! Lovely experience and comfortable setting.

We had a 4 course Valentines meal and the George did not disappoint . This is the best meal we’ve had out for a long time . The menu was refreshing with prawns to start . My husband absolutely devoured the venison wellington and I dream of the trio of puddings .The service was attentive without being intrusive . Really superb !

We had a fabulous Sunday lunch at The George yesterday,. We were a family party of 9 with a three month old baby too. We had one of the function rooms upstairs. Both the food and the service were superb, absolutely faultless. Thank you very much.

Exceptional gastropub in the charming town of Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire. This was our second visit with friends. It has recently had a full refurbishment and was looking fresh and elegant. The large dining room can accommodate several parties whilst providing ample space and privacy between the tables. With the soft lighting and gentle music, it all makes for a very pleasant ambience! There is a snug to the left of the open kitchen, and a delightful bar and lounge area with fireplace to the right of the kitchen, next to the dining room. Now to the food and drink - excellently well-mannered and attentive staff make you feel very welcome and with local Iford Press cider on tap, I was very happy. The menu has some wonderful options, I was spoilt for choice. In the end I plumped for the Confit trout, trout pâté, pressed cucumber and puff pastry. Delicious and so artfully presented! My husband and friends had the cream of onion soup and the smoked duck, all of which they enjoyed. For my main I had the Corn fed chicken supreme, parsnip and maple syrup purée, bacon, polenta and Parmesan chips, with chicken jus - large portion which satisfied all of my expectations, it was amazingly good! The rest of our party had the Three cheese ravioli, which was rich and tasty. For dessert I had the Apple and Cinnamon strudel with vanilla custard - really well spiced, it was like a large rolled crepe, filled with delicately spiced fruit, with a physalis garnish. Finished off with a cafetière black coffee, I was very contented! I Highly recommend this gastropub! It has changed hands recently and the new owners have successfully rejuvenated the building and now provide one of the best restaurant experiences in the area!

We booked an evening at The George, due to its good reviews, proximity to Bath, and its dog friendliness. We stayed in the Thyme room, which was decorated very well, and had everything you would need for a short break. We had an evening meal, which was superb, and breakfast, again superb. The staff, all of them, were friendly and helpful, the locals were the same, it made our weekend very pleasant and enjoyable.

We've eaten here twice since moving to BoA and both times have been exquisite! Fantastic value for money, amazing service, food was faultless and wine/beer selection amazing. Big shout out to Jo and her team, thank you for making me and my girlfriend feel very welcome. Thanks to Alice and Finn who were hot on their heels for us tonight. See you all soon.

This place has secured a very talented chef. This is a gastro pub experience in my view. I live in Surrey and work in London, so know a thing or two about eating out. Dishes here are simply complex and taste sublime. My family had short beef rib, chicken supreme and pork chop all meat was prepared and executed superbly each with its own sides of regular or celeriac mash, polenta with parsnips, carrots snd greens. The jus is a telltale sign of a trained chef, each dish had its own, the rib deep and rich, pork with mustard and the chicken glossy. The portion sizes were plentiful for the bigger appetite too. I highly recommend a visit.

The George has the authentic traditional feel of a Cotswold pub. The fire and staff combined to give a warm welcome on a cold day. Decoration is traditional and for there was enough Christmas feel to be classic and not-over-the top. Booking seems to be advised because The George is so popular. We were seated when we arrived, but could have had drinks by the fire had we so wished. There is also a separate bar area for those not dining. The menu gave enough options, including those for vegetarian and vegan dining. All the food was tasty with good portion size and excellent accompanying vegetables. Price was very reasonable given the quality of food. Service was timely on a busy lunchtime at Christmas, and not over bearing. Reasonable range of wines and beers. There is adequate parking in the car park and on the street. The George is in Woolley Street is on the outskirts of Bradford-on-Avon. An enjoyable dining experience and we will return.

such a lovely pub, the christmas decorations were restrained and made the atmosphere just right for a family lunch. We were very impressed with the seating area near to the fire with comfortable places to relax in and take a pre-lunch drink. The wine was very nice as was the beer. We were shown to our table by a very attentive waiter. Lunch was a 2 course choice from a 3 course menu and was excellent. How they offer that quality of food for the price, I do not know. Nice fresh food which was well cooked and presented. We hope to return soon.

Best Christmas meal I've had this year, great service, tasty vegetarian main and luscious chocolate brownie to finish!

We have visited many places in this country and overseas and this rates highly on our list of favourite places. It was by luck that we found it but delighted that we did. The accommodation was excellent and the staff so very friendly, and as for the food it was amazing! We used it as a stopover on our way to visit family and will be staying here next time we make the trip. Couldn’t fault it at all.

Ate a lovely meal with friends but the toilets/ urinals were blocked. There were no sanitizers, soaps, towels or hand dryers in the toilets. Particularly disappointing and worrying during these times of Covid.

Smashing Pub, walking distance (up hill) from the centre of Bradford on Avon (the D1 bus stops at the end of the road though - limited parking and definitely needs to be booked as it is popular with locals and tourists alike. Cosy, country pub feel and good fresh cooked food with a view into the kitchen from one area of the restaurant. Friendly staff and the Tuesday steak night meal for two with a drink was great value at £30 total. Enjoyed our evening here.

What a great place to stay and eat. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The food and customer service superb. We highly recommend staying and eating here and look forward to coming back

We had the most lovely meal, on the top floor of this pub. Great, friendly and helpful service. Delicious mains (haven’t had beef Wellington since before the pandemic and it was rich with fluffy pastry. The fish with coconut and coriander was light and fresh). The brownies for dessert were gooey and delicious.Definitely worth a stop if you’re nearby

This was my first ever visit and I was not disappointed. Sunday lunch was delicious and the service was efficient and faultless. We will be back.

Had been here previously whilst visiting relatives and weren’t disappointed once again.All the food is home cooked and gluten free options are available - I even had a GF Yorkshire pudding with my lunch. Portions are huge, with plenty of seasonal vegetables included.Staff were very helpful and attentive.Prices are reasonable too.Certainly worth visiting

This pub is beautifully set up inside with big sofas as well as tables with settles and chairs. There is a pleasant garden at the back which is also set up for eating or drinking. The staff were delightful and very efficient.The menu is interesting, offering proper fresh-cooked dishes cooked by a real chef, and it was quite delicious.I thought the bill represented very good value indeed for the quality, which was definitely top-drawer.

We were at The George a couple of years ago and it was excellent then. Food, service, ambiance great. Friends who had not been to The George before were very impressed by the menu choice and quality of the food. I was pleased as it was my choice to go to The George. Even the dog enjoyed herself. We stayed at the George for three nights this week, had breakfast daily and dinner on two evenings. Accommodation was great, food absolutely superb and service wonderful. Couldn't have asked for more and we will definitely return.

What a great place to experience, with the feeling of a high class 'Michelin' star restaurant.Staff are incredibly professional, attentive and friendly.The pub gardens are really pretty, with tables on the lawn, surrounded by beautiful planting.The food is 'standout'! Simple, considered menu's; locally sourced ingredients and delivered with passion, and pride. Delicious food, very well thought-out set lunch menus at affordable prices, with high end execution.

Absolutely superb. Made to feel welcome the moment we arrived. The tables were laid beautifully, nice menu and offered a drink as soon as we had sat down. Service and food was excellent. Visited The George following the 2nd lockdown with our 12 year old daughter. Went early evening with the intention of having just a small meal from their substantial meal board!! But after looking at the main menu we decided as it was our first time out in a long time to treat ourselves. Everything was perfect and the staff really do go the extra mile to look after their guests. Very clear one way system in place tables nicely spaced and screens between tables and all staff wearing masks for protection of themselves and guests dining.

We visited the George on Wednesday, the last evening before lock down - what a perfect way to spend it. The setting is perfect, lovely,warm,cosy and inviting. The staff were absolutely lovely, charming,efficient and with a great sense of humour. The place was busy,which was great,a really nice atmosphere,social distancing was maintained cleverly and efficiently, with a well devised one way system. The food was divine, there was no room for pudding, but we had it anyway :) it was a delicious sticky toffee pudding. Not to he missed! We felt very well looked after and will certainly become regulars at this fine establishment. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Took our friends out for an evening meal in The George as a thank you dinner. We werent disappointed. The staff were great and the food lovely. We sat on the sofa having drinks before we ate and felt very relaxed. The pub was doing a special steak night offer, which the four of us had. It was good value and we all enjoyed our meal. Cheesecake for desert which was hard to turn down. Left the car at the pub over night and collected in the morning. This was the best meal out we had during our 4 night break in the area.

Fantastic two night stay at the George! We booked the apartment called “Rosemary” which was spacious and beautifully decorated. We ate in the restaurant both nights. Wonderful food. Very generous breakfast with great choice. The staff have gone to a lot of effort to make guests feel safe with screens and social distancing. We received a very warm welcome from the staff. It was a lovely break, our first since lockdown. There is so much to do in the area; the canal and river area is so beautiful. We cannot wait to return.

What a gem of a place, from the moment you walk in you are made to feel most welcome, from a casual drink in the bar area (if space allows of course) until your food is ready and you’ll then be guided to your table. For your peace of mind you’ll notice the one way system and some screens between tables as you would expect in the present circumstances. The ambience is just right, with cozy low level lighting and an open kitchen which is great to see from one of the dining areas. The food is absolutely superb, we were a table of 3 and were not disappointed throughout all 3 courses- apart from feeling rather full at the end of it! Our meals included mussels, seabass, pork belly and sticky toffee pudding. Amazing food, drinks selection and service from the whole team- highly recommended.

Amazing place , greeted by friendly professional staff , the apartment we had was absolutely superb ,spotlessly clean and so comfortable . We were blown away by it . Had a fantastic evening meal followed by an equally impressive breakfast . The location is perfect just a short walk into Bradford on Avon avoiding queuing in traffic . We shall most definitely return . Thank you so much for our wonderful stay .

We stayed for two nights in the Thyme apartment, absolutely lovely. So clean and spacious. The breakfasts were delicious. We ate n the restaurant on the first night and it was so good, we booked again for the second night! Staff very friendly and helpful. Only a 15 minute walk into Bradford on Avon and easy train journey to Bath for the day. We will definitely be staying again.

We were staying in the area for a family reasons and we ate here on a couple of occasions and we found the food, service and general feeling of the the pub of a high standard and we shall return when next in the areaso thank you everyone at The George you are doing a great job!!

Always a pleasure eating here! Sunday lunch today was very enjoyable. Our first meal out, since the start of lock down. Alex is a good chef and Alison is......well, just lovely! Please do go and support our struggling hospitality industry in these difficult times. They do everything so well here, the staff are very friendly and you cannot fail to enjoy your meal here. One of my favourite places and rather special as it is off the beaten track, representing a rare “good find”! Enjoy!

Plenty to like at the George - lovely interior, very good and adventurous wine list, tasty food, super hospitality and a nice garden. Well worth a the 10 minute walk from Bradford-on-Avon town centre if you want a proper British pub experience. The couple of recent poor reviews from the Australian and Italian guys are way wide of the mark and should be ignored.

We stayed two nights from Friday to Sunday, and it was the first time away from home for both of us since the lockdown ‘ended’. We couldn’t have picked a better place to go. We were instantly made to feel welcome, and were shown up to our apartment which was just so lovely. A couple of drinks in the beer garden, followed by dinner on the first night did not disappoint. The food and wine choice was sooooo good! We felt utterly spoilt the next morning at breakfast too, when ‘our’ table was all laid up with breakfast items and menus. Amazing full English. The service was fantastic, the stay and food great value for money, and the location was perfect for walking into town and exploring the local area. We would love to come back and stay! 5* and two very relaxed people ready to face another week of working from home!!

Visited as soon as the pub was reopened to enjoy some lovely food. Probably a bit like everyone else we didn’t really know what to expect or how it was going to work. We were greeted as soon as we entered the pub, staff were wearing masks and there were plenty of bottles of hand sanitisers strategically placed throughout. We chose to be seated straight away and we ordered our drinks. The service was faultless and friendly. The food was up to it’s usual standards and was excellent. We enjoyed our first night post lockupat the George and if there were any issues they were not noticeable. Thankyou Team.

In a difficult time, we are still enjoying meals from Alison and Alex at The George. Today I went to collect our meal for tonight and they had made an extra effort as they knew it was hubby's birthday. Instead of 2 individual pots of cheesecake there was the most delightful cheesecake with a birthday message and strawberries on. One happy hubby

we had a dinner and a lunch over a period of a week and I'm afraid that the atmosphere isn't happening here. the food was ok ...but sadly not that good to overlook the lack of friendliness and atmosphere.

Stayed for one night - wow, fantastic room. What a great idea to have a bedroom and another living room with kitchen.So nice to stay at a real dog friendly place - he had his own bed plus a doggie welcome pack! Met up with friends for evening meal - food and service was fantastic.The bar area has sofas to relax on - a real homely feel ....Well done in creating such a lovely place Really recommend The George for a place to eat and stay.

Michele, Bella and I were in high anticipation of lunch here. We had read an article on the best inns in Bath and the area. The George was warmly reviewed. The woman who answered sounded so welcoming.The dining room is attractive and the barman/.waiter efficient.Michele opted for the set menu, while I chose moules followed by the burger. Michele's starter of grilled sardines were small and very uninviting, while my moules lacked seasoning. We enquired about our chef. and our waiter listed a number of highly acclaimed establishments where he had been Chef!!Our main courses is where things fell apart. Michele's chicken Stroganoff was an absolute mess while my burger was very underwhelming and dry and tasteless. Fortunately Bella scoffed most of the burger ( Bella is a Yorkshire terrier)We had been asked by our waiter so many times while we were eating if we were enjoying it, we decided to admit our disappointment. He immediately became confrontational 'Why did we say it was alright '? Gestapo trained!!!!Michele's final course of cheesecake was so disgusting we declined to eat it! our waiter took £2 pounds off the bill.Don't believe reviews you read in glossy magazines.

Visited here a couple of days before Xmas for a meal and drinks and what a meal it was. I had the chicken supreme with Xmas dinner pancake which was absolutely delicious. Everything about the dish was executed to the very highest standard and it’s nice and reassuring to be sat with the open plan kitchen in view so you can watch the chefs at work. We skipped dessert as the main was so filling. All in all a fantastic meal and the decor so lovely and cozy for Xmas with some great hanging Xmas decorations in the bar area. Good selection of gins, we will definitely be back! Thankyou

Visited a few times now! The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming. Delightful cosy pub with roaring fires! It feels like you are welcomed into their home! Visited this time for lunch, there is a set menu available which is great value however I ate off the main menu which is reasonable priced for the quality. The soufflé was to die for and the beef wellington for main was total luxury! The staff are all so lovely and the food is great, will definitely be back again sooner rather than later!

Four of us dined at November's supper club and the food was excellent as usual. I've been coming to the The George for 18 months and it is consistently good.As I say in my profile, those of you who complain here about poor food quality or quantity have only yourselves to blame - if you don't mention the matter to the pub operator at the time then nothing can be done to redress your complaint. A few weeks ago, I mentioned that the rice pudding was gritty. Alison whipped the plates away, went in the kitchen and properly cooked replacements appeared in no time.As for the complaints about pricing, if you don't like the price, don't buy it, its called choice, just exercise yours. Every business has a costed offering and some are more expensive than others, for example, you can get fed in Wetherspoons for next to no money at all but I prefer properly cooked food, not a snip and ping regenerated menu.Rant over.

A group of 10 of us visited The George for my friends special birthday. I made her a beautiful cheesecake as her birthday cake. The staff brought the cake out with candles in it and my friend was chuffed to bits! They left us 10 side plates and forks, we cut and served the cake ourselves. When the bill came we we horrified to see a £60 cakeage charge. Yes £60!!!! I have visited some of the finest restaurants in the world and have never ever been charged to have a birthday cake. The attitude of the owner/manageress was nothing short of aggressive and argumentative. When we said we wouldn’t be visiting again, she shrugged her shoulders. I understand that establishments can’t have people bringing in their own food but it was a birthday cake!! Our total spend that evening was £600!!! So they certainly made money out of us. Very disappointing to say the least.

Lovely surroundings & nice food but felt it was overpriced. Drinks expensive too. Over £30 for a bottle of Prosecco ! Main courses around the £20 mark. Log fires were nice & made it very cosy

Popped in with some girlfriends for lunch - opted for the set menu £19.95 for 2 courses. We had the thai chicken curry (I think in needed more thai spices) but it was OK. It was certainly a generous portion. We then had the bread and butter pudding with cinnamon custard - very dense and probably microwaved. The custard was lovely. The service is always friendly and because of this I am happy to say that my overall impression was very good (even if the food could be a little more refined).

We booked a table for four at short notice on a Friday evening and were chuffed when we were told we could be accommodated at 6.30pm.

Staff were very accommodating when I explained mum couldn’t make it upstairs, so quickly set a table downstairs without any fuss. Food was modern British and was exceptional for the price . The young waiting staff were an absolute credit to the business, which made our visit most enjoyable.

The high tea for two was enormous (2 boxes filled to take home afterwards!) and tasted wonderful.More than enough salmon, egg mayo and ham sandwiches, light, fluffy scones with jam and cream, delicious profiteroles, amazing doughnut slices topped with creme brulee, banana loaf, crumpets and honey and finally a lemon posset of such lemony smoothness. I have had high tea at Sketch, The Wolseley, and other quality tea places but the George's tea easily equalled if not surpassed these. Service was friendly, and lovely to have the chef come out to see if we had enjoyed the meal. Lovely setting with flower filled window boxes and cosy interior.

I found the service very good and the food was tasty but lacked interest.

We had a 3 x night stay here and it was great ! We stayed in the accommodation above the pub / restaurant, which was excellent. A nice spacious lounge /kitchen which is very well appointed with fridge, small cooking facilites, flat screen tv, comfortable settees and dining table. Plenty of plates / cutlery etc for your needs. And the bedroom and en suite is comfortable and quiet.

I've eaten at the George for a weekday lunch and a monthly supper club dinner, which were both very good and I would recommend them highly. The staff are efficient and friendly and the atmosphere both inside and outside in the cottage style garden is first rate. However, I have been there for Sunday lunch twice now and although the starters are up to their usual standard, both times I was disappointed with the main course. The meat was tasteless (beef and lamb) the gravy thin, the cauliflower gratin soggy and the green sauce which accompanied the lamb made from something that wasn't mint. Both times, my companions ate the pork, of which there was plenty and full of flavour. If I go there for Sunday lunch again, this is what I'll order.

We had a truly exceptional lunch at the George this week in their beautiful sheltered shaded garden . The service and food were of the highest standard and excellent value for money . Thoroughly recommended and we shall return in force from Bath soon .🤣😂

We stayed here for five days and experienced a comfortable room, very good service and great food. Lovely selection for breakfast items from continental to hot breakfast dishes. Lunch and dinner menu's are lovely and cater for all tastes. Every dish that we had was really good, the steaks, calves liver and the beef wellington were all great, as well as all the other delightful things. The team are lovely, warm, friendly and extremely helpful which is very much appreciated and made our stay most enjoyable.

I chose this venue to host my friends surprise baby shower. The staff were all very good at accommodating to everything we needed. The food was lovely- so much cake, sandwiches, crumpets with honey! They even gave us boxes to take our cake home in as they were so generous with the portions! We had a private dining room upstairs for the party which was lovely. Plenty of room for all of us and decorated very nicely. The lady that served us and looked after us throughout was so lovely and helpful! She was wonderful. She was so friendly and understanding about the mess we had created!

15 of us descended upon The George on Saturday evening (15/6/19) for my mums 60th birthday meal. We were away for the weekend and were recommended this pub from the owner of our accommodation. It was a fantastic recommendation.

My daughter suggested The George and so glad she did. Lovely place to eat, food excellent, staff so friendly and happy and such a dog friendly place too which is nice to see. Menu choice excellent too. Try it out yourselves......

We have eaten here on numerous occasions and the food has allways been excellent,the service is really friendly and the overall experience is great

This is the place to stay eat and drink in Bradford on Avon. The staff are amazing the chefs are superb and the accommodation is second to none.

My wife, myself and Tuco the Chihuahua stayed and ate here for 3 nights end of April,beginning of May this year.

Well it was down and out, but what a place now. Fantastic food,quality service, the ability to watch the chefs at work. Great ambiance and a local but knowledgeable clientele. Always busy but not drowning in the Bradford-on-Avon tourist set. Reluctantly posting this because it could make my next visit harder to book. Really worth that visit!

Parking some distance away on street. Food OK. Having advised it was for a special event, no acknowledgement of the occasion.

Our first meal at The George. Great food - especially enjoyed the duck salad as a starter and the trout. The restaurant had a wonderful atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended!

It was the last Thursday of the month supper club tonight. Crab arancini with lobster bisque, an intensely flavoured faggot with a madeira jus, slow cooked lamb with herbs and mini diced vegetables, a venison pie topped with celeriac mash and a mango sorbet with coconut ice. Yum, delicious and charming attentive service from lovely staff 10/10.

Seriously good pub in a lovely bit of Bradford-On-Avon. Cosy, excellent food, open fire, friendly staff. A really excellent local that’s worth a visit.

We booked this venue as we had visited in December for Sunday lunch and had a great time. We were all reunited in Feb so decided to go again and really enjoyed it. The food was extremely tasty, especially the burger. Service was friendly, relaxed but attentive. We left having had another brilliant time with lovely food, wine and beer. Can’t fault it.

We made a last minute booking for dinner last night and even though they were busy we were squeezed in. Nothing felt rushed though - the staff were very welcoming, attentive but not overbearing. The food was delicious - there was a great menu and choosing what to go for was tricky! The food was fresh and it was great to see the chefs cooking in the open kitchen. If we were local, we’d be back soon and will definitely revisit if we are back in the area.

Absolutely LOVERLEY!!! Wonder fool food!! Polite and helpful staff!, Comfortable seating, we were not rushed.... excellent coffee.. Clean crisp linen ,!

I've just been out for dinner here and it was extremely fresh and tasty,it always is.I had Mackrell and my partner had chicken and we were both smiling! I've recommended this restaurant to a number of my colleagues and friends and they all thank me afterwards . They also do a great breakfast menu; a great start to any day!

Recently visited the George on a birthday trip. The look of the pub is lovely and inside is so cosy. Everything looks pretty and it was very busy so must be popular! Staff were pleasant and the atmosphere was nice. All the food we had was enjoyable and I would recommend to others. Personally I had the burger and it was delicious. Would return again if ever in the area.

Recently visited the George. Beautiful cosy pub..BUT the steak was tough and the fish under cooked. Very expensive meal. Will not go back.
