Best steak pie ever, generous portions at a reasonable price..Friendly and efficient staff and quality Palmers beers. Great location on the harbour.

Always have a meal here every year when we are in West Bay and the food continues to be reasonably priced. Both food and the service was good.

Lovely evening meal. 3 adults 2 children. Great to see old classics like cottage pie on the menu. All the food was delicious and staff very pleasant and helpful.

There are a few restaurant staff/owners in and around Bridport would benefit from eating here. It’s very good pub food served and presented well by helpful staff.Very generous portions sizes and very reasonable priced

What a pleasant surprise. Expected average pub grub but was treated to great food and amazing portion sizes. How they turn a profit on the size of portions they provide, I have no idea. Staff were really friendly too and nothing was too much trouble for them. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back

Came here in 2017 and ate here 3 x times in one week! Food was excellent. Was hoping for the sane experience. Food was excellent again portions great and delicious

Called in for a drink and male bar staff made comments about my non-local accent (South Yorkshire) and tried to "banter" about it. Encouraged a local customer to join in and he said " Bloody foreigners" which upset me. Was it because I was a woman on my own that he thought it was acceptable to be rude to me. God help if you were a Geordie or Scouser! Is The George part of Royston Vasey - "This is a local pub, for local people". I have been visiting West Bay for holidays for 10 years and have never been made to feel uncomfortable so I will be giving The George a miss in the years to come. My advice is to be friendly to the people who spend their money in your pub or, like myself, they will go elsewhere.

Typical harbour pub/restaurant. Limited menu selection, no reference to actual ingredients used. No bottled water.

My favourite pub! The area is amazing, staff are fantastic! Always had such a great experience here & the food is delicious!!! Pop in here often for a drink as it’s so welcoming, friendly etc. Great destination & has a lovely bar area with pool table & darts etc! Can’t fault this place in the slightest! What an amazing bunch!

So disappointed, always go to the George when we are in Westbay and usually have the Fish & Chips which are excellent, this time I was after something different and ordered the Sirlion steak, it was the worst steak I've ever had, really tough and sinewy, the onion rings were obviously old and frozen, and should have been thrown away. The whole place felt very grubby, its really put me off and will not be back.

Second time here for a Sunday Roast. Absolutely brilliant again. Great young staff. No delays, very polite, lovely carvery. Lovely landlady. What’s not to love?

Visited without a booking, happily sat the 7 of us without a problem, every single meal was perfect, we live in The New Forest, please come over and teach the chefs in the pubs how to cook, we don’t go out to eat that much anymore as it’s hard to get a good meal without being charged the earth.

What a great find-excellent food for a fair price.Down in West Bay for short break and found this great pub-quality service from happy friendly staff plus food that was great. Try Fish Pie and/or Sea Bass fillets-you won't go far wrong. Well done !

A fantastic place to stay. We spent three nights and were treated to fantastic staff, a spotless, airy and comfortable room. The most deliciously cooked steak for dinner and the biggest and best breakfasts I've ever had. A wonderful location with great views, customer parking and Palmers Ales. We will definitely be back soon.

A wonderful pub, with a great variety of beers and ciders to try. The staff are really lovely and the food is delicious! Have eaten there many times before and will do the to do so. The best liver and bacon I’ve had in years!

Difficult to describe the George as a 'pub' in the tradional sense because of its grand Georgian building! But that doesn't detract from its warmth or charm, or the fact that you can get a decent pint if local bitter in it! The staff were warm and welcoming, an excellent menu choice, which was superbly cooked, and reasonably priced. Easily accessible, child and canine friendly, thoroughly recommend!

Ate here two nights, third night rudely told if there is a table in the bar you can order. No tables in the bar available although all the tables in the restaurant were empty. Found a much nicer place to eat so no going back

Recently enjoyed a lovely lunch at The George. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. The menu is quite extensive. I had the gammon while my husband had the liver and bacon which he said was the best he had ever tasted. Will definitely be back next time we are in Dorset.

Myself and my wife stayed for 2 nights B&B at the George and couldn’t have been more pleased with our choice. West Bay is like stepping back 40 years to how our Beautiful England used to be long ago. No fast food chains on every corner just good old fashioned delicious food and drink. Every member of staff at The George were polite,courteous and friendly at all times. Our room was very spacious,comfortable and immaculately clean The full English breakfast was absolutely amazing as was the evening meal we ate in the restaurant. How many restaurants serve liver and bacon nowadays and cooked to perfection!! Obviously there’s a top class chef in the kitchen who nows what we like to eat. This is such a well run establishment and deserves any praise left by customers. We will definitely be returning to this excellent establishment hopefully in the very near future and can’t rate it highly enough. Definitely a rating of 10 out of 10💯👌

We stayed for one night . We had breakfast and evening meal both were superb . Excellent service and food Room was comfortable with a good view of harbour .

Little quiet in the evening at this time of the year. But an evening walk along the prom followed by a few drinks is enough after a busy day.

We popped in for a refreshing drink on day one and had to go back another day. Good service and a nice place to sit to watch the ducks on the water. Thanks!

Lots of places were fully booked but we found the riverside garden of the George. Food was excellent sea bass came with a choice of veg or salad and cops or new potatoes. The chef definitely knows how to cook fish properly. Wish we had found the George earlier in our holiday.

Have just been for food for the second time this week and yet again it didn’t disappoint. Had the fish pie the first time, which was great, but the sea bass fillets with prawns and sand fire tonight was fabulous. I loved it and would highly recommend it. The staff were friendly and helpful. Enjoy.

Called in The George for lunch, been on a few occasions, we were seated promptly in a cosy part of the restaurant. The staff promptly took our drinks order then gave us a few minutes to peruse the menu. I ordered the chicken burger and was not disappointed. The food was amazing and well worth the money. I would recommend The George for food as we thoroughly enjoyed eating there, the staff are friendly and welcoming.

Lovely lunch for the 4 of us 2 had the liver 1 pie and faggots all came quickly and all were very tasty plenty for everyone with polite service food was at a good price but drinks a little on the steep side we will visit again when the summer comes

Great pub food with massive portions providing great value for money. A perfect place to eat if you don’t fancy eating your fish and chips outside. A great menu with lots of options and really friendly staff who provided great service! Highly recommended!

Called in for a drink after a walk on the beach with the dogs. Wasn't sure where we could sit and barman was talking to someone else. After 5 minutes of the barman not acknowledging us, started walking towards the back of the pub, only to be rudely shouted at by a member of staff that we couldnt take the dogs in this part of the pub. Was very taken aback as to how they spoke to me. Decided to leave and not have a drink.

Very good wide menu, very friendly service, found us a nice table by the window (admittedly not too busy on a November lunchtime). Easy to find a meal to suit both of us, jacket potato for one with really imaginative filling, and liver and bacon for the other with mixed veg as an option rather than just peas! Meals came very quickly and staff were very attentive. Quality of meals was excellent. Very reasonably priced too - total bill for two £33 including drinks. Would head straight for here when we’re next in West Bay!

We’ve been in Dorset for one week and this has been by far the best place to eat. Ate here twice and the food was amazing. Liver and bacon was a real treat!

The George is a lovely charming pub, we went for an anniversary meal, we were met by some great staff made to feel welcome. The staff were very attentive and the food was absolutely beautiful. We had the steak and seabass. It was quick to arrive, the plates were hot the food piping hot and was delicious.The next time we visit West Bay we definitely return for a meal and looking at the great reviews for the rooms that will be a possibility too if can manage time off. What can I say ? My wife and I came here today (9/10/2021)It was a lovely day, and we sat in the garden in the sunshine.We ordered a drink and a cheese Ploughmans each.The drink was refreshing and we thought value for money.The food was exceptional 4 types of cheese, lovely homemade bread roll, salad, onions , chutney, beetroot, egg. exceptional value for £9 ! !

Went for a Sunday carvery. Was very disappointed. Small portion of meat and what I had was very fatty. The veg was undercooked and not a great selection.. would not return

Popped in for lunch & what a fabulous lunch it was! I had the chicken breast, bacon & Brie sauce & hubby had the steak & ale pie. Huge portions & so so tasty. Lovely friendly staff too, perfect!

WOW!!! Amazing Sunday lunch,we were a group of 6 who ate here for the first time we were promptly seated and our drinks order taken, we all chose the carvery great selection of meat and vegetables with extras like cauliflower cheese and sausage meat stuffing, proper home cooking, we thought it couldn’t get any better then we had dessert I had the lemon and raspberry cheesecake wow best cheesecake I’ve ever had delicious. couldn’t recommend this place enough the staff were great and it’s very reasonably priced give The George a try you won’t be disappointed.

Whenever we stay in West Bay we always take the chance to drop in for a meal. Last night was no exception,it was a very windy and wet night and it was a delight be able experience the great food and good beer we have come to expect here.Friendly service, I had the steak and Palmers ale pie my wife had a cheeseburger. Both were extremely good and very generous portions, I couldn't finish the pie and vegetables. I assure you this doesn't happen very often! .I am fond of Palmers beers and the Dorset Gold is definitely worth a try!The house dog is lovely and other visiting dogs were well behaved and nice to see in a pub.We will definitely return again and will recommend The George to our friends.

Well after missing out on Sunday lunch, we got in tonight 27th September 2021. We were greeted by a lovely lady (I think she is the owner), we were seated and our drinks delivered while we made our dinner choice. Menu not massive but really great quality food. We are here for another 11days and we will be back. Thank you all for your service.

Found this Dorset Gem by chance looking for Sunday Lunch.On entering we were greeted by a polite member of Staff who seated us at our table and explained The Carvery options whilst taking our drinks order.The Carvery was Lovely, very tasty with an excellent choice of Meat & Fresh Vegetables.All The Staff are Polite & Friendly The Bill was very reasonable for both food & drinks.Will Highly Recommend to friends who Visit This Beautiful area and we will hope to visit again.

Unfortunately not able to review the food as we were unable to dine. We had called in to enquire if booking was needed for early evening and the vegetarian options.A very pleasant young man informed us no bookings were necessary and went though the options explaining food was available until around 8pm.We arrived just after 7 to be informed they had stopped serving food as a coach party had arrived. Not sure if it was unexpected but it was the couldn't care less attitude that was disappointing. When at the seaside, nothing beats a bag of chips watching the sea.

Really enjoyed our meal here. Called in on the off chance on a busy Sunday. All tables were full but we had a drink outside until a table became available. Really good and friendly service from front of house and waiting staff. An extensive menu of pub food but this is not your standard pub food. This is really good quality and huge portions. My wife had salmon which she said was as well cooked as any she had before and my gammon was cooked to perfection. Would have loved a pudding but were both stuffed after the mains. Would return if we are back in the area

Well priced menu, good welcome and friendly attentive staff combined to provide a very pleasant lunch. Generous portions. We shared a three dish platter plus salad which was plenty for two. My son's kids spaghetti bolognese was huge but he enjoyed it

Setting is beautiful, staff are welcoming, food is great it is exactly what a pub should be. Had a great time and will be coming back.

Fantastic 2 night stay at The George in West Bay. Hosts and staff absolutely amazing and could not have done anything more for us. Then there’s the food, which is amazing. Hearty portions with great flavours and the breakfast, WOW! Believe me, you don’t need lunch after you have had a George Breakfast. Hopefully be back on our next visit to Dorset.

If we hadn't known that it's a Palmers pub we might not have gone in, but having crossed the threshold we ended up with an excellent sea bass and equally good Caesar salad and, of course, good beer. All served by lovely staff, so what more could you ask for?

We always head straight to The George when we are in West Bay. Consistently good food, welcoming atmosphere and lovely setting. The highlight this time was the lemon and raspberry cheesecake. The best I have ever had. A lovely ginger base, some sort if delicious curd and then lashings of soft lemon cheesecake with real raspberries in. It was served in a huge ramekin, individual portion. Worth every penny at £6. We shared one. Thank you again to the staff at The George for always finding us a table and we cant wait to come back!

Very basic pub grub. We had fish and chips and expected much better given the location. What we got was grey tasteless haddock? In a heavy wet batter and oven chips. The peas were tinned garden peas. My daughter had a burger, it looked a bit dry but she ate it and said it was good. I’m sorry to say I wouldn’t recommend.

Worst vegan burger ever. Average staff with zero knowledge of food. Chefs clearly couldn’t give a rats about accommodating for vegans & vegetarians. Or just terrible cooks. Burger was some disgusting defrosted circle between a dry brioche. With unsalted overcooked steamed veg on the side. At least try and make the food edible! Safe to say would not return

Stayed with Karen at the George for a week. Lovely large family suite with interconnecting rooms was a real bonus with teenage children and the breakfast was second to none, absolutely delicious! All staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough to help. Everyone worked really hard to make our stay perfect so thanks to you all! West Bay is a lovely part of the world and the George is well worth a visit while there.

We were recommended this place by my sister who came the week before and we weren’t disappointed! We were advised to get here early to avoid being turned away and we were greeted with smiles and a warm welcome from the staff. We ordered children’s meals which when they came were huge! Much to our children’s delight, and 4 carvery meals. There was so much choice and everything was so tasty and cooked to perfection. Think we will make this a regular Sunday lunch place when we are down on the weekends! Thank you The George for not letting us down and satisfying hungry customers!

I would love to leave a great review - but that won’t be possible. A special mention to the lovely ladies working at the bar, but the gentleman was so rude to us, we left the pub. We have never been treated with so much disrespect we were quite shocked. Shouting at us and making us feel uncomfortable. It’s a real shame as it would be a great pub otherwise. I would not recommend if the man is working

Went to the George last night for my partners birthday.The service was very good and the food came out fairly quick and was ery hot .the portions were very generous and very tasty. I had steak chips mushroom. And tomatoes.tge steak was cooked perfect and very tasty and ot tough .y partner had ha. Egg a d chips a d said he really enjoyed it we oth left feing full.

So decided to come for tea after a lovely afternoon in Westbay on our fourth day of our holiday in the area. Lovely welcome and seated at a table immediately, with menus. Food was the usual pub grub, and it was nice, my scampi was a bit over cooked so maybe not as long next time. Still great food and enjoyed by me and my family. Will return and would recommend if you want no fuss pub food, a little pricey but it seems everything has gone up due to Covid and the pandemic, and I guess they’re trying to recoup some of their losses. All in all a great place xx

Although the staff were very friendly the food was somewhat disappointing. We had lovely Nacho's and whitebait to start with so we were looking forward to our mains. The steak and gammon were ok but the liver and bacon were less so The liver was dry and over cooked, veg was stringy and the mash was full of lumps. The best bit was the gravy. Sadly I couldn't eat it.

Greeted by a very abrupt male member of staff before we stepped foot in the door. Very brusk. We had paused and read the ‘rules’ on the board of this ‘no bookings pub’ before we were about tho enter. So we were quite surprised at their annoyance at us. Just a polite comment informing us that they had reached capacity or we have a wait would have sufficed. My six year old noted the mans rudeness before I had chance to comment. I sincerely hope they do not discourage any other customers. I feel we would have waited or returned another evening. Very rude indeed.

We politely asked the man on the front door if there was a table available (they don’t take bookings) and we were rudely and arrogantly spoken to as if we were an inconvenience! If you’re not going to take bookings then don’t be so rude to people when they ask if there’s a table available!! Never experienced such a lack of customer service before!! Went to The Bridport Arms and got a lovely warm welcome and service!

Staying in Chideock for the third time we enjoyed two meals at this excellent handy hostelry. Friendly staff and a chef supplying delicious food at good prices ensure an enjoyable dining experience any time of day. Highly recommended.

The wife and I popped in here on a Thursday lunch time as we needed lunch while out and about. The pub has seating inside and across the road outside, by the waterside. We sat outside as the weather was OK and....you know...covid. That said, there was sanitiser and a one way system inside and a request for one person per party at the bar. I was served promptly and as per usual in the area they offer Palmers ales (the brewery being a stone's throw away). Plastic cups for outside, which makes sense, especially as it was getting windy. Nobody needs glass blowing around and getting smashed. Staff were friendly and efficient. The food came about 10 minutes later and was good quality served with a smile.The pub gets everything right. Didn't spend much time inside but it looked like a few regulars in there enjoying conversation. The outside area isn't the most pretty but it's nice and comfy with both picnic benches and some chairs.

Arrived at 4 30 to be told there not taking food order for a while due to being busy. Staff complained about Parasol being moved to shade my 2 year old son in very hot weather condition . This pub is not welcoming and definitely not family friendly

Went for the final (least said the better) and staff were excellent, really on the ball about refilling drinks. Food decent - I had gammon and my partner had ploughmans, which was excellent and massive for £9. Staff friendly, place clean and well looked after, and nice garden.

Organised friendly staff, have a good system for table service with red and green sided cards. Good atmosphere, been here a few times when visiting the area. Mainly been in for drinks but the food always looks nice. Dog friendly

Enjoyed a lovely spot of dinner and a few beers, friendly staff and the food was cracking, I had the steak and ale pie it was massive...and a great idea with the card on the table using green to ask for service and red when ok.

This place could not have been more unfriendly if they had tried. We popped in earlier and enquired if we needed to book. Was told they don’t take bookings so just roll up. We did, we got as far as the door and were told in no uncertain terms there was no more room!! He was abrupt and quite unpleasant. He didn’t apologise or suggest trying again later, he gesticulated to get rid of us! Absolutely not necessary. We will not visit again and we do not recommend.

We ate here a couple of times and at each visit the staff were welcoming and friendly. Covid restrictions were followed and we felt safe. The food was great and every meal was served in good time, was hot and tasty.

My wife & l went for a meal at this pub, restaurant & hotel, on Tuesday evening 15/06/21. Had a average pub meal with two drinks came to £31.20, gave waitress a £50 note she came back to say they don`t accept £50 notes, so silly me paid by card. On way out l spoke to the manager asking why a pub restaurant plus hotel doesn`t accept a £50 note, his ignorant answer was haven`t got anyway of checking if their fake pal & walked away. After a few choice words we left. Come on now days theirs a few ways of checking any notes, l was a London cabby if l didn`t accept notes of any kind, it wouldn`t be worth me going to work. I wonder what would`ve happen if i didn`t have a card on me. ( washing up) LOL. After being closed for long periods you would think they would welcome you with open arms not this place. Be careful when visiting this establishment.

Half a dozen old gits on motorcycles descended on West Bay one week and tried every drinking hole in the town.Visited here one evening late and it was welcoming and ok. Some of the guys thought the beer was not up to scratch.Returned the next evening and had some food which was ok but the beer we chose do not seem right. Swapped it out for some lager which was ok.Moved on to another pub after our food.

Had a great day in sunny West Bay and we fancied some lunch...I haven't been in The George for some years so we decided to pay a visit based on the menu.. Great food.. but... miserable, disinterested front of house staff which made the atmosphere a tad tense.. such a shame

Sat in the outside seating area that had a very relaxed vibe with chilled unobtrusive music playing and a great outside bar. A really good atmosphere. Strict on the track and trace system that was nice to see. We ate about 6pm in the evening as a family of three. Good portions, good food and we were very impressed at how reasonable priced it was. We had risotto, steak and ale pie and sea bass with prawns and all were well received. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.

Nice traditional pub located in centre of village with lovely harbour-side views. Good beers & ciders reasonably priced. Welcoming, attentive and friendly staff. Didn’t have any food but what we saw looked good. A pool table in the back too!

Walked in and politely asked if there was room for two for lunch. He grumpily replied that there was, but there was a 30-40 minute wait for food and that if that was too long, there was nothing he could do about it. While I appreciate that he may have been having a bad day, restaurants only re-opened a week ago so I would have thought he'd have been a bit more encouraging to paying customers. Or perhaps he's just in the wrong g job.

Friendly staff but lacked knowledge when asked what was the 'soup of the day' and 'the size of starter portions'. Over priced - despite location. Gastro pub, disappointing given the price tag!!!

Sea bass ,prawns and samphire with salad and chips,the sleep was palmers copper ,very well cooked and covid safe.

Weird interpretation of substantial meal, apparently something that you need to use a knife and fork to eat with but then a bowl of chips is okay? Average food and filled our belly on a cold and wet winter day.

One way system with QR code and sanitiser at the door, the only downside was the non-wearing of masks by the staff. Otherwise the staff were friendly, the service was very good and we had a pretty good meal too. Would have been 4 stars if they’d worn masks.

Went to the George for a lunchtime meal to meet some friends who were staying there for a few days.Booked the George as it looked a value for money venue with a range of traditional cooked food.We arrived and were sat down under in the har. Staff were very attentive and ordered our meals and in turn the food turned up in good time. Whilst the food presentation was not the best the food was found to be plentiful and of good value and my only complaint was why the pie was cooked on a puff pastry base with a pastry lid. A proper pie needs to be enclosed.Overall a good experience and would return when next down that way.

Just had a most wonderful meal here. Food was excellent. Probably the best salmon fillet I have ever had. The Steak and Ale pie was lovely and my daughter's Ham Egg and Chips and my Son's Hand Battered Cod and Chips were just fantastic. The service was great too. A wonderful pub serving wonderful food and wonderful beer! Very highly recommended.

Very impressed with the safety procedures and warm welcome. Choice of vegan food much appreciated and had the vegan wrap. Generous salad and chips included so a really substantial meal. Will definitely be back.

We had a lovely 2 night break at The George for my Birthday. Our room was pleasant and comfortable with a view over the river . The staff were all delightful, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were the best we've had anywhere. We also ate in the restaurant on two evenings and the menu was varied and the food delicious. We will definitely return.

Staying in West Bay we visited here twice. The slick friendly service was second to none and the food was excellent. Extremely friendly welcome and a lovely atmosphere. Also great beer 👍

Looking for a place to eat and to get out of the rain we came upon this gem of a pub. The staff were friendly and there was a good lunchtime menu. I opted for a vegetarian option of roasted vegetables with feta on ciabatta whilst my husband had the pie. Both were filling and very tasty. Would definitely recommend

I’ve just had an awesome day at west bay with my daughter. Having been caught short, I was desperate for the loo. I went back to the west bay hotel where I had been but it was closed.. after hobbling for some way, I took my daughter and small dog into the George. Wearing a mask, I put my child and dog at a table, and used the facilities. Upon returning to my table, my child wanted to leave. I had promised her an ice cream and she wasn’t letting it go. Guiltily, having used the facilities I made for a quick exit. The landlord accosted me, and very pointedly, with anger in his eyes, told me I needed to fill the book, I shouldn’t have come in.. now.. on the one hand, I don’t generally go round peoples houses or business’s , take a poo, and leave. In fact it was all rather embarrassing. The landlord showed no discretion, embarrassing me in front of my child and the people there. So I refused, and left. The landlord called me a ‘d***head’ to my back as I walked out. To which I replied quite shortly and rudely. I swore at him.. apologised to the people outside. He followed, there was a short exchange, and I left with my 9 year old daughter. Upon getting the ice cream she wanted, I very much avoided going back in the George, as the landlord had told me I was not welcome back. I would have returned as I am quite hungry. Excellent lunch here. Steak and Ale pie was very tasty, fresh vegetables and boiled new potatoes beautifully cooked.

Ordered the steak from the menu and was first class, gets very busy but thats just shows how good it is. Will.definetly be returning before we go jome

We failed to book anywhere for dinner whilst visiting West Bay, we tried to get into a few places but all were fully booked or needed an advance booking. We finally found a table at the George but had no expectations as there didn’t seem to be anyone dining there.However we were pleasantly surprised! We all ordered the Seabass with garlic prawns & samphire, perfect combo! The fish was fresh and delicious, really well cooked. The veg was cooked well & still had a bite to it, the chips & new potatoes were lovely too. Generous portions at reasonable prices. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

Dog friendly in an pub ideal location. Didn’t eat as food wasn’t being served, but sampled the local ales and the service was good.

We went in early one evening - the George is a great pub with terrific range of local Palmer's beers, and excellent no nonsense pub meals. Great place, that was well organised for the kitchen, the bars and the Covid-19 protocol. Very friendly, genuine low key enjoyment.

After not getting a table at the more showy places in West Bay we managed to get a table outside in the sun. To tell the truth was not expecting to be surprised . I ordered the Seabass and it was delicious , cooked beautifully and full of flavour. The service was pub like so not silver service but it's a pub after all but staff were lovely and attentive. If they worked on the presentation it would elevate it more but it's all about the flavour and it packed a punch. I would recommend this place totally. And good value for money

We sat and had a couple of Dorset Gold beers while watching all the harbour activity. Very friendly service.
