Seven of us were spending a week flying at the Yorkshire Gliding Club, Sutton Bank and on a rainy morning we visited the Gavel for Breakfast on a Club Member’s recommendation. If you’re looking for a full English breakfast this is definitely the place to go. Good quality nicely cooked breakfast, good portions,(you would have to be ravenous to go for the large), excellent value for money, good service and friendly staff. Look forward to going to try the lunch on our next visit.

Visited for a breakfast bun as it's next door to the vets. Let's dogs in. Great value and big servings. Friendly, cheery staff.

This is a no-nonsense welcoming canteen style diner. The food is great value and we couldn’t fault the price at £12 for two good set lunches. We will return when we are next in the area.

I recently visited the gavel cafe, I then observed A member of staff saying hello to a dog, she Handled this dog then went straight back to work in the kitchen, and didn't wash her hands, WHY !!!????.

Me and hubby went today for breakfast. He had the full english - 2 bacon, 2 sausage, fried egg, hash browns, mushrooms, beans and toast. I had a bacon butty and the girl serving was great, picking out the crispy bacon for me. She crammed it full - so many places give you 2 slices and that's it!!!. We both had bottles of fresh orange juice and in total the bill was £12.95. We came just at the right time and got served straight away. 10 minutes later the Q was out the door. For a cheap and cheerful meal with great service then come to the Gavel.

Been for lunch. Excellent meat in our sandwiches and delicious quiche at prices which mean you will be a return customer. In addition, service with a smile and a great menu to choose from. We'll worth a visit.

Wow! So had a bad couple of days and needed breakfast so tried the gavel cafe as I knew the sandwiches they do were good. Decided on a large breakfast as I was hungry, expecting the usual 2 sausage, bacon and eggs. I was wrong. 3 huge sausages, 6 pieces of bacon, fried eggs, hash browns, mountain of mushrooms and beans and toast and mug of tea. It was awesome to say the least and was not greasey or floating in oil like some I've had. There was soo much and it tasted so good, I honestly struggled to eat it all. Highly recommended for anyone and very competitively priced.

Had a fantastic meal there tonight. Nothing was too much trouble. We were a big group, between 35 and 40 but they were able to serve everyone very quickly and all the food was piping hot. Everything was home cooked and delicious. Extremely reasonable prices and excellent service. I will definitely go back.

This is a great little cafe that offers a range of food. It's not fancy at all but I prefer that. The menu is quite large - breakfasts, roast dinner, lasagne, pie and chips etc.On the day we went I had ham and cheese toastie and chips and my friend had a roast beef dinner. She had coffee and I had a can of coke and the bill for everything was £10.00!!!! My friend said the roast dinner was perfect. The beef was tender and you got plenty of it. It came with home made yorkshire pudding. Will definately come here again.

I've nipped in here for a bacon and sausage butty a few times. They make a cracking breakfast roll. Great 'real' ingredients and not a massive wait either. Environment is appropriate for the surroundings on the auction mart.

Quality is good. However, the portion sizes have massively decreased, the Parmesan for example is half the size it used to be and is very very thin. Chips are only provided to share between the table, so this is a clear way of trying to save money. The Bay Horse always used to be consistently good when booking a large group. Unfortunately , this will be the last time I visit until they sort out their portion sizes for the price they charge I ordered and paid for drinks at the bar which cost me £40. 2 pints of Pepsi 2 J20 2 sparkling water 2 half pints of lemonade 1 lime and soda 2 lattes

We called on spec today for a quick lunch prior to visiting friends in the area. The welcome was friendly. Staff and customers were most welcoming to our two little dogs. How nice this was. The food was most acceptable . Decent-sized portions and a lovely selection of seasonal vegetables. Pity not all pubs are so accommodating.

Lovely cosy cafe. Arrived unannounced, with a large group of people with additional needs but were made very welcome and seated very quickly. The staff were very kind, patient and helpful. A good choice of lunchtime meals and snacks which everyone enjoyed. Would visit again when in the area.
