The Gate Inn in Tamworth

I have requented this Inn many times meeting as a group for lunch but was disappointed with a new requirement to register your car reg if you enter the car park otherwise you will get a £100.00 fine. My friends allerted me to this as I had not noticed the new signs. Being partly dyslexic and have a fear of these machines I was really put off going there again and we as a group will now avoid this place. I advise the same.

Always a pleasure to be here, they outdid themselves again, 12 family members, 8 adults 5 kids, all the food came out together, reasonably priced, tasted good food as always.

Went for a nice weekend lunch as I have done many times before and negotiated the new parking system. It was nearly empty, not serving food on a Saturday afternoon…. Really gone downhill 😢

Only the 2 of us wanting food and the wait was unbearable...nearly an hour for 2 main courses...when questioned we were told that the steak that was ordered was taking time to cook...it was ordered rare so wtf was taking so long??? Seemed like a poor excuse expecting us to be non the wiser but sadly we're not that thick!! Bad service!!

Had a great night out with our son good food reasonable price excellent service and would highly recommend especially quiz night which was great fun.

I’ve been drinking in this great establishment for over 20 years and love it here, I’d love to say the landlady is the best one so far but to be fair as long as the ale is cold and the food is hot I’m as happy as a pig in muck.

Ignore the negative reviews, we were here when Rachel was and it was so busy, yes the food took its time but it was piping hot, lovely and exactly what we ordered, its always easy to 'knock' a pub when you don't get what you want when you want it, but come on, have a little patience, perfection is not accomplished at speed. that being said ,this place is quickly turning into one of our favorite little secret hotspots and we will be back. Thankyou to the team for always being lovely, friendly and willing to help if needed

Nice food, however even though the pub didn't appear to be busy we had to wait at least an hour for our food,I didn't bother ordering dessert,we ate paid and left

Beautiful canal side pub, lovely atmosphere, a good selection of beers and food was beautiful and came out fairly quick and very hot. Asked if it was possible for something that wasn’t on the menu and the chef done it, thank you so much ❤️ will definitely be coming back

Poor. Nothing to say no table service. Put ice in cider so well short of a pint. Food at best tasteless much the same as the beer

The owner is terrible and prejudiced, please avoid this place at all costs. Me and a friend while discussing how to get to Germany for the England game just randomly grabbed our drinks and told me to "f***ing get out her pub" She "apparently" received a complaint about a made up story of how we are talking about "disgusting" things. Never been so insulted and accused in all my life. I will be making a complaint to Marstons also.

Absolutely lovely staff, one of whom seemed to be serving customers and cooking in the kitchen simultaneously (she had a Harry Potter tattoo which we enjoyed). The food was everything we needed after our day on the canal. The wings with hot honey or BBQ sauce were very good. Various musicians began to drift in to indulge in a jam session of several musical styles, on a school night too. Much enjoyed.

Another enjoyable meal at the gate, this place never lets us down, we have had a number of meal’s here and there has not been a bad one yet, it is such a peaceful and relaxing place, on a nice sunny day there is plenty of space to enjoy along side the canal, if that’s not for you there is space inside for whatever your needs are, dogs are welcome as well.

Friendly staff and delicious food. Lovely peaceful canal side location. Enjoyed watching the narrowboats passing by. Dog friendly and children’s play area.

Staff were extremely helpful and cheerful, ordered food and we're informed there would be a slight wait as bar was very full and most people had ordered food. However it was worth waiting with ample portions of well cooked food washed down with a couple of pints of well kept ale. Highly recommended

Friendly pub with amazing food and great staff with a great outside space. Weekly quizzes and bingo and live entertainment give it a go you wont be disappointed.

we happened upon this lovely pub from some friends we met whilst on our canal barge, it was a great suggestion, vicky and the team were lovely and friendly, beer was cold, food was hot and quick, we will definitely be popping in here again when we are passing

OMG. The food here is AMAZING. Havent been for a while as the previous tennants/ management were more interested in drinking the profits. BUT, the difference is so clear that even stevie wonder can see it. My partner & I decided to pop in last weekend to have a quick drink & saw the difference immediatey. Clean bar & restaurant, very friendly bar/ restaurant staff who all have a great sense of humour . So we decided to have a bite to eat. To be honest we wernt expecting much BUT when we got the food OMG it was amazing! The manager Vikki had just won CHEF OF THE YEAR. Out of 400 pubs! Nothing is too much trouble here. Staff are soòooo polite & funny. All throughout the meal there was a laugh, a joke & a smile from everyone. The names i remember were Vikki, Chloe, Emma, Laura & Maddy. Thank you soooooo much for a fantastic meal & fantastic welcome. We will be back.

Four of us had a meal before attending the weekly quiz night. We had different dishes - Mixed Grill, Beer battered fish and chips, Southern fried chicken burger and Sausages and mash. All of the meals were delicious, served promptly, and service was good. Congratulations to Chef Vicky for winning the Marstons Chef of the Year, it is well deserved!

Had a lovely lunch with my friend. Used my 30% voucher so even better value. Staff very friendly and meal served quickly. Will come again soon.

Very poor portions Meals are just not acceptable at the prices charged I'm local but will never return sorry Needs a complete refit grubby

It could be a gold mine this place lovely setting. BUT if you fancy the food please don’t bother dry chicken no sauce, macaroni cheese tasted bland just like tinned & the scampi on surf and turf 5 little peanut size. REALLY not worth the money and that was with 30% off. Will not be recommending to eat there & will NOT be returning for food.

Disgusted!!! No salad, no veg, no onion rings, pie like concrete, chicken like sawdust, lasagne tasteless. Pay me and I still won’t go back. No discount offered, no return offered, nothing!!! Nice pub for a drink though.

My wife and I went to the Gate Inn today for a meal. We had been before a few years ago and the food was very good at that time, but today was a disappointment. My wife had the salt&chilli chicken kebab with fries, the filling was sparse, the small amount of chicken was tasteless and bland, the salad consisted of some chopped peppers, and tiny amounts of onion and cucumber, the flat bread that it came on was hard and tough in areas, so all together unappetising. My burger was ok, but not worth the £11.79 price tag.

We came here last night to celebrate my mother in laws birthday for a meal and boy did it not disappoint. Was greated by staff(think the manager) who showed us to our table was was very friendly. Food came out well presented Would happily go back again Thank you :)

I was a little nervous at first, the last time we ate out I was made poorly due to cross contamination. But on speaking to the lady who runs the facility, she explained she was gluten-free and understands the issue of cross contamination The service was fantastic. The food was outstanding and I would recommend this facility to all celiacs. The food was very good quality and excellent value. Thank you for a lovely meal 😁

From being greeted on phone by the lovely friendly efficient Emma our whole experience was great! We phones after midday and Emma organised us a dog friendly table for 1:00pm. On arrival we were again greeted promptly and served by the lovely Emma. We both had the Roast Beef dinner followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding and Custard, everything was delicious. All staff and guests were friendly- even the four legged ones !

Very dissapointed with our xmas day dinner. Staff was pleasant enough but the food was terrible. 3 dinners sent out to table without any potatoes the ones that had potatoes was uncooked . The Yorkshire pudding was slop I said to the lady serving us this isn't cooked she replied it was cooked properly yesterday... yesterday I said thinking I didn't hear correct.. no wonder is was a sloppy mess. This was our 1st time having xmas dinner out . Never again . Also didn't appreciate been rushed at the end we still had an hour left and was getting rushed to move ..

Popped into the gate for a quick pint with the dog and wife and thought we’d grab a quick bite. Ordered the nachos to share along with drinks. Food arrived really quickly and service was excellent. Food was very tasty and brilliantly presented. Drinks were spot on with a great range including neck oil. Had a great night!

Amazing staff, very friendly, very welcoming, good food, drinks & atmosphere. This is a very relaxing chilled pub for families, couples or even to relax with a drink on your own after work.
