Sunday lunch for two and jolly good value for money. The restaurant is bright and airy but I thought the seat at my table was a wee bit low for my liking. I opted for mushrooms on toast for starters which was very tasty but the toast was made from some kind of wholemeal grained bread which was as hard and unyielding as a roof tile, why not try a nice slice of white Farmhouse. My main was roast beef which was delicious although the mashed potato had been overworked giving it a glutinous texture. The Green King IPA was excellent.

5 stars as a pub not a gastro pub. The staff are excellent and the owner. The pub looks small but opens out into a very nice resturant . The surrounding are very pleasant. Good beer and a good selection of wine. The prices are very fair. The food is excellent . We had a starter and a main and really well cooked. We had a great time and we 100% recommend the pub. Good local and friendly. Parking available .

Amazing Sunday lunch with friends. Everything cooked to perfection - turkey soft and moist, pork juicy and beef slightly pink and very tender. Home made yorkshires, buttery mash, crispy roasties, cauliflower cheese, peas, greens, carrots and red cabbage. And an extra jug of gravy. A huge plateful for a very reasonable price. Lovely surroundings and friendly staff. Beautiful beer garden and great selection of wines, real ales and gin!!!

Vile treatment from the staff here. After not enjoying the rice I was given with my roast dinner, the cook came out to us and stated that all they do is reheat the food and I should try the meat if I didn’t like my option. The cook continued to be disgustingly rude. When the cook had finished her monologue, the “manager”proceeded to state that she needed to take my money. I’ve never been spoken to in such a manner in my life. Words do not cover my experience.

Having been by The Gate, Middleton on a lot of ocassions we decided we would book for Sunday lunch, greeting by the staff was very warm and as if we were regular customers. We were shown to our table and drinks soon followed, we ordered our roast's which were brought to us within 10minutes, a full plate no room for anything else and it was very good after we had finished that I had a jam roly poly with custard there again it was out very quickly and was very good. To sum up why we had waited to go somewhere where the atmosphere and food are of a very good standard, I dont know but we will be going back.

We love this place, together with the owners and additional 'front of house' staff who are always so welcoming and friendly. We are pleased to call it our local and eat here regularly, the food is great (ale's kept well too) and there is always plenty; no small portions here! Definitely the hub of our community and one we will continue to frequent with a smile on our faces.

The Sunday lunch is always fabulous with a choice of 3 locally sourced meats. However, as today was Easter Sunday there was lamb on the menu too - my absolute favourite! Cooked to perfection with an extra helping of the lamb gravy! Carrots, peas, swede, broccoli with cheese sauce, roast and new potatoes and a massive yorkie pud completed the plate. Lovely, friendly, smiley staff too. We'll be back!

We were regulars at the Gate until Covid, and have only 5 star reviews of it till we went there yesterday! The atmosphere and friendliness of the current staff lived up to expectations but the menu did not. I had been told when I rang to book that there was still an extensive vegetarian menu - 2 dishes and jacket potatoes do not make an extensive choice. The vegetarian dish my wife selected was on the menu as having a bubble and squeak cake as part of the dish but when it came, no cake just a side salad. When queried we were told it was always served with a side salad and the listing on the menu was a printer's error. My 'Christmas' pasta did not contain the advertised mushrooms or meatballs but was very tasty. I noticed it had disappeared from the board after I ordered it. The only dish that came as advertised was the Fish and chips - though the quantity of the chunky chips would have fed all three of us! There were other mistakes on the menu - the -'pate of the from' seems to be missing a day, and the coffees were advertised at £2.00 but charged at £2.20 though one can accept small changes due to the soaring costs of running a pub. Originally the pub had been owned by a gentleman who lived in the village and leased to landlords but now I see it is owned by Maxi Pubs Ltd. I doubt we will visit again.

Visited on one of the 'special' evenings - Wednesday is curry night, Thursday pies, Friday fish. So, Thursday pies were steak and cheese, steak and Guinness and turkey, ham and leek. All served with either chips and peas or mash and veg. I had steak and cheese - not my usual choice but my friend recommended it. Oh. My. Word. Lots of big meaty chunks, fresh, tasty, crisp pastry. Separate jug of gravy with even more meat in. A mountain of fluffy in the middle, crisp on the outside chips (only managed half of them). And all this, including a drink, for 12 quid! Absolute bargain. The whole place was buzzing, warm and cosy. Brilliant night.

We don’t live far from this little gem and often wondered what it was like. So today we went for Sunday lunch with friends. The pub was welcoming with the feel of a typical village pub. Going through to the restaurant the pub opened up into a light airy garden room. Two of us had the roast beef Sunday lunch which was lovely, perfect portion size as none of us left anything and I’m sure if we had asked for extra veg we would have been given them. The desserts were lovely the lemon tart and ice cream was my choice, but the chocolate brownie and the cheesecake were homemade by a very talented young lady. The wine was lovey and a good price. The only negative that I have is that the cutlery was a bit blunt and I found it hard to cut the meat. Unfortunately I ate my lemon tart before I took a picture

Six of us visited the restaurant and had a varied choice between us, The pies were miniscule portions with hardly any mash and a few peas. The fish and chips was like something you'd buy frozen and the ham and eggs was too small with about 10 chips. We were also overcharged on the drinks, we were charged for an extra beer. I emailed the company to give them a chance to respond. but they didn' eben bother. so I decided to write this review. The waitress was the best thing about the place. she wascharming and pleasant. Too many pubs in west and north Norfolk have like urban lambs gone down the gastro-pub route with disastrous results. Here is a gem of a pub displaying all that a country village hostelry should be. Here you will find a wide choice of tasty, value-for-money food, at least 4 real ales on at any time (often with Woodfordes Nog as one of the offerings! and usually Wherry and Abbott as mighty twins) which incidentally are kept and served in a superb condition. Add to that a friendly host and hostess, and an abundance of pleasant local folk with all their quirks and eccentricities, and you have a heady mix. This is a good pub in a part of the county that too often mistakes a quality pub as being something exported from Chelsea. I agree with 'Wits-End'; this is a special place.

Visiting ‘The Gate’ at Fairgreen you will find that the new publican and his wife have made the bar area quite superb with new décor. The food is wonderful and exceeds the expectations for a village pub. The beer is excellent with Woodfordes Wherry available for the real ale drinker. The clientele are friendly and varied from fruit pickers to highly qualified professionals. Incomes range from the lowly to millionaires, one of whom bought the pub to save it for the locals when the land was being eyed up for development.

Visited with a group. Not a good start as I was insulted by the landlord on arrival, although I have never met him or visited the pub before. Seated in the restaurant, very nice surroundings in the bar and restaurant. The group had previously provided the pub with a list of dishes required. We took our seats at a long table, as we were early, 12.30 for 1 pm, we were expecting to chat between ourselves. No drinks were offered and individuals went to the bar to buy their own drinks. The chef/landlady appeared shortly after we arrived and asked if we were ready to eat. This we agreed. She even dealt with an extra person who had not been expected, he quickly opted for a beef lasagne. Within 5 minutes! the food started to arrive. The fried dishes, fish & chips and scampi & chips looked great, freshly prepared. There was a slight problem with a curry dish which had been been ordered by text by mistake. This was placed on a table to get cold whilst there was a conversation! that it had been ordered. No offer by the landlady to exchange the meal for what was wanted, and eventually someone had to take it. This was about 5 minutes later. (The customer is always right, just not here). The beef lasagnes were brought out, they looked burnt on the top and sides. I had a vegetable lasagne which had a burnt exterior. The last lasagne brought out for the extra person looked freshly prepared and didn’t have the burnt appearance. Apart from the fried food it was obvious that the meals had been reheated using a microwave. Water was brought to the table grudgingly, then we had to chase for glasses with which to drink it. The dessert course was the type you would prepare at home. Finally coffee was eventually served. For what the food was it turned out to be an expensive meal. Maybe it was an off day, however, we will not be re-visiting.

Stopped here to kill some time whilst our daughter was at a function in the area. So glad we did! A warm and friendly welcome from the landlord and the front bar area was very warm and cozy. Exactly as you would hope for in a village pub. Food was served from 6pm in a separate dining area and we decided to have a meal. This was another revelation as we were taken through to a very contemprary and welcoming dining area. In addition to an extensive main menu there was a specials board for main course options. Plenty of choice to cover every taste. The lanlady and chef were very accomodating regarding dietary requirements and special requests. The food quality was excellent and the portion sizes were generous, making this good value for money. Service was attentive, efficient and friendly. If only I had a local like this. We will certainly be returning, but suspect we will have to book well in advance as I am sure this place will become very popular.

Espero volver pronto.

Visited for my mums birthday. Decent parking facilities and easy to find. Friendly welcoming staff. Nice setting in the restaurant light spacious and a good temperature. Dinner was very nice we had starters which included prawn cocktail, butterfly prawns, soup, whitebait and a flat mushroom with a Parmesan crust. These were all pleasant only complaint is the mushroom was raw and needed to be cooked a little longer but this was quickly rectified by the excellent staff. For mains we had pie, lasagne, pork belly and chicken tikka. Again these were all very pleasant. Some of us had dessert including apple crumble, trifle and Milky Way cheesecake my mum said the trifle was one of the nicest she had ever eaten. Price per person which included 2/3 drinks each mostly alcoholic was £25. We will visit again

First visited The Gate when moved to West Norfolk in 1972. Quite compact then but a small extension added a little more space some years later. Then hadn't visitedfor no special reason for a long while until last week. Now a substantial area has been added to the restaurant with full length window views into the garden. Had a superb meal for a wide ranging menu with specials boards for starters, main courses and desserts.Friendly waitress, the owner? and prompt service. A little off the beaten track but well worth searching out and signposted from the main A47.

Although when we visited it was very quiet, it made no difference. Everything on menu and specials available, staff very attentive and helpful. Would definitely go again and recommend.

Really nice meal, a huge variety of interesting main course choices including meat and fish options. There is a normal menu and a large specials board. I am partial to the pies when I go as they are one of the few places that still does pastry top and bottom! Plenty of filling too. The only downside is the chips. They are tasteless. I would recommend changing them to roasted or mashed potatoes instead. Starters are quite traditional but tasty nonetheless. We had really good service on a busy Mother's Day though and dessert was good too.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at this pub today. Everyone was very satisfied with their meal and we were all too full sadly for dessert. Courteous and helpful staff. Definitely worth a visit....A most enjoyable lunch.

The restaurant was bright and pleasant, although the large windows made it too hot with no blinds, as it was a sunny day. My scampi, peas and chips were well-cooked and tasty and the roast beef was good too. The service was prompt and pleasant.

Some time since we have eaten here and chose to eat in the modern and well lit restaurant that is now open to the rear of the pub. There is a fixed menu and a specials board. Both give good options to choose from and are well prepared by the current chef.We ate early evening but the restaurant soon filled up. A reservation by phone could prevent disappointment. If you remember this is a village pub and free house the food exceeds all expectations. For the beer drinker, there are three options of ‘Real Ale’. The service was attentive and very friendly, without being over the top.

It was supposed to be a birthday surprise for a friend, the bar menu was very limited, and the "specials" board was just basically very plain, it seems you have to have peas and salad with just about everything, I suppose the idea is to fill the plate up with rubbish to make it look good, from my point and my colleagues there is nothing worse than an overcrowded plate, two of my friends had fish and chips, very greasy fish, the birthday girl had belly of pork which she ended up taking home for her dog as the meat was too tough, I asked for a medium rare Sirloin and got an overcooked very dry piece of meat, we mentioned this to the barmaid and they knocked 50% off the price, how generous!.Will definitely never be going back again

By far the best, local village pub.Clean, well kept , staff are all friendly and inviting. Exellent food with fast service even when busy.Had many a meal and never had a problem, even had cheescakes specially made for us.Would advise booking as due to being a small village pub it does get busy during peak times. Can't wait to go back again.

Staying on a campsite not far from this great pub, nice looking place on arrival, made very welcome by the staff. Good restaurant and also good if you want to eat in the bar area.It was a Sunday lunch time, roast dinners on offer plus a very good assortment of other meals on offer (don't forget to look at the specials board in the restaurant)Good quality food, generous portions, we went for a specials, gammon and chicken pie and I might add A REAL PIE!Really delicious and filling washed down with some real ale.Well worth the effort to find this place.Fully recommended.(Don't forget to say hi to Murphy) the bar dog.

Off the A47 in Fair Green, it is a bit difficult to spot, especially in the evening when the light on the sign is not working. It's worth the effort. The beer is excellent, with usually a selection of three cask ales - I chose Wherry. There is a nice restaurant, but many people choose the bar meals (including the dog when we visited who had a snack in his own bowl). A proper village local which deserves to be supported.

Visited the gate 30th Aug with 6 friends .For a birthday meal. We arrived and drinks were served at are table straight away. All meals were very good. We had one person who was gluten and lactose intolerant, which was no problem at all. All meals arrived quickly and hot. All in all a lovely evening Will be returning soon.

Popped in here for a quick lunch at the end of our walk, with our lively springer spaniel, who was made very welcome. We found the Kings Arms staff friendly and welcoming, and we enjoyed excellent sandwiches, sensibly thick and beautifully fresh bread with loads of filling. We thought they were great value, especially given that they were accompanied by salad, crisps and really lovely coleslaw. They really filled us up. It was only a shame that our holiday accommodation is well over an hour away, so we probably won’t be able to repeat the experience soon. We will definitely recommend the Kings Arms.

As regular customers for lunch on Saturdays my partner and I have noticed that the service has got worse. If the owner isn’t there, the young staff who despite doing their best, leave customers for ages before taking orders and don’t notice when customers need them. Today we received our beers but no glasses, then we waited 50 mins for 2 basic mains and a side dish, they came followed by our cutlery. The food is good and the staff are lovely but it’s clear there weren’t enough doing front of house and probably the kitchen, as we weren’t alone waiting ages today. We want to support it as an independent restaurant but the really slow service is putting us off.

Everyone should go here just for the milkshakes. We even had an extra milkshake instead of dessert because they are soooo good. Rayna May was a friendly, efficient, knowledgeable waitress. The place was really clean and comfortable. The food was very reasonably priced. My salad was amazing, my friend really enjoyed her burger and did I mention the milkshakes 🤣🤣🤣

We decided to have our wedding reception here and Emily was amazing from the very 1st time we spoke with her and all the way through to the big day Nothing was too much trouble we had a couple of people with dietary needs and these were catered for with ease Then the big day arrived where Emily's other half Richard took over with the cooking and omg he done us proud , feedback from all the guests was positive 100% Massive thank you to you both and your staff for making it happen
