Walked in to a busy and lively pub with a warm welcome. As we wanted food we moved to the restaurant and had prompt and attentive service. Lovely food which arrived quickly. Must admit to having a thing about toilets as they say a lot about a place, found these to be really clean and they were not found wanting there. Fab visit and thanks for looking after us.

Painfully cold mostly the room. But the restaurant was also cold. Noisy rooms directly above the pub. Food in the restaurant was very good for evening meal.

Really nice restraint, not much on the menu but that's nice as you have plenty to choose from. Had the fish and chips and partner had the full moon burger. Have to say the fish was probably one of the best I've had especially for a secluded pub pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Very hospitable and we enjoyed ourselves can't say much more than that!

What a great pub!!! Such a warm welcome and laughs with Danny and the staff. We couldn’t resist the cheesy chips! The locals are lovely and we felt like we’d being going there for years. Will definitely visit the area again. Thanks team 😊

A very warm welcome form the landlord, Ash, to this old pub well patronised by locals, one of the best curries I have had in a pub, a very comfortable and spacious 'room' and an excellent breakfast. The team survived through COVID na deserve to continue to succeed.

Popped in on the way to our B&B after a full day at The Oldfield Forge. The inn was recommended by staff there and it didn't disappoint. A warm and chatty welcome upon arrival and then after a drink we both ordered a FULL MOON burger. A top-notch burger with some of the crispiest fries ever. The inn had a warm inviting feel with families and children happily playing in the beer garden.

We were with a group of 15 friends who were walking in the area and had a lunch on a Saturday (we had booked). Really tasty food, nicely presented and generous portions. Was impressed and would return. Only 1 very busy guy serving who worked hard, as was doing bar and food and could have done with an extra pair of hands, but the overall experience was excellent.

We cycled there from Skenfrith and it was worth the effort ! Super food and generous portions. Would certainly go again. Good value for money.

This truly wonderful pub, restaurant & hotel combined is somewhere we first found right at the end of the lock down, when they were literally fighting to stay open & even then, it was fabulous. Now it’s magnificent, not because anything has changed-they’re still busy-but getting busier & they’ve survived! This incredible, beautiful family run place, full of laughter & lovely people, with superb food (curry night on a Tuesday is a must), glorious, well equipped high end rooms & a breakfast to die for. Ash, who runs the show, is a delight & nothing is too much trouble….why on earth wouldn’t we come back?!

We ordered two coffees which came out cold so I tuck the pot back to the bar it come back cold I gave them the opportunity to put things right do I go back in again no so i have sent a bad review there food is excellent we came and had a Sunday lunch 6 days before .

We stayed for 3 nights in The Globe apartment at The Garway Moon Inn. A well appointed apartment which had everything we needed and breakfast in the pub each morning. The food was first class at breakfast and we dined there one evening. The evening meal was excellent. Landlord very friendly and helpful. Gorgeous village green opposite the pub. Ideally situated for visiting Oldfield Forge. Highly recommended.

The food was delicious, we had both the roast beef and the mixed grilled fish. The staff were really friendly. We’d definitely stop hee again when in the area.

This is very much a pub at the heart of a rural community. Lovely village Green opposite with croquet pitches - a rare sight! We booked following good reviews on here and when we realised that they had a chef in on Friday and Saturday we hoped for a good meal. We have paid twice as much in the past for nowhere near as well made, presented, and delicious food. Our starters were courgette and mozzarella cannelloni and salmon gravadlax -both 10/10 Main courses were grilled mixed fish and a Katsura curry with sticky rice and kimchi pickled vegetables. Unbelievably good tastes, portion size, presentation and service. We live 3 hours away but I can see us planning a repeat trip just for this secret gem of culinary delight. Friday and Saturday - chef dinner nights. Bonne cuisine! Merveilleux! Merci!

Stayed here overnight as we were visiting the local area, and ended up having breakfast, lunch and dinner all at the Inn. The service was excellent, all the staff were friendly, the food delicious, and the accommodation was very comfortable. I would highly recommend the Garway Moon Inn for food, accommodation, or just to pop in for a drink. If we are ever visiting the area again, we won't need to look elsewhere for somewhere to stay, this is the perfect place.

Chose this place for their proximity to the Oldfield Forge. We were met by a lovely team member who promptly showed us to our room. It was spotless, spacious and gorgeous. The food in their downstairs restaraunt was heavenly and the breakfast is top notch. We had attentive service from Danni, but thanks to the whole team. Would gladly stay again 😊

We had the most odd experience I've ever had, in this pub. The bar man was so rude that we ended up leaving without ordering. Felt like a real 'local pub for local people' type situation. I've honestly never had a similar experience any where else. Would really not recommend - unless you're a local maybe?

Always a favourite place to go, especially on a sunny afternoon which then becomes evening. Over the looking the green is a joy especially as you watch some locals playing croquet or little people playing on the swings. Whether we come with family or friends,...

My husband and I stayed here for one night and it turned out to be a beautiful little find. At first we were disappointed that it was a 5pm check in, but once the doors to the Inn were opened at this time, our delightful stay began. We stayed in ‘The Sun’ room which was newly and beautifully decorated, with a real modern cottage feel. It was a lovely spacious area with a large bathroom. The view from our room was equally beautiful. The dinner was excellent and breakfast was a full English and made by Ash, the owner. He, along with his bar staff and housekeeper/cleaner, were so welcoming and friendly. friendly guy. This was a lovely stop over on the way to the Brecon Beacons. We would definitely recommend staying here.

Went to the Garway Inn for a midweek evening meal whist being holiday in the area. Pre- booked our table and was glad we did as the restaurant was busy . The restaurant is adjacent to the bar and open planned in a traditional but modern style. Iona was our waitress and very knowledgeable of the menu and recommended a local beer to try , lovely! The food was great , fresh , hot and good portion sizes . Iona throughout the meal was attentive and very funny and it complemented our meal , thank you Iona and we will be back when we are back in the area !

After an afternoon in the nearby forge we went for an early evening meal. The presence of several obvious “locals” is generally a good sign and we’re we’re not disappointed.

We came here for a meal before the football and so the venue was reasonably quiet.The service was excellent, both of the people who served us were really polite, pleasant and friendly.The food was lovely, very fresh and well presented, none of us could fault what we had.Pity we had to rush off to watch the match!

I had a steak with came with all the trimmings. Beautifully cooked as requested and very tasty. Hubby had the fish & chips. HUGE! I am informed that it was marvellous. A good pint of beer served too. Excellent place.

We hadn’t been before. The bar staff worked hard but there were long delays on all counts. The young lad rarely wore his mask and spent a lot of time chatting to locals. A young lady worked hard and tried her best We went on Curry night and had high expectations, however we ordered samosas and bhajis to share - the bhajis were really nice and they were meant to be 4 samosas and two bhajis so we thought we would share the starters, the samosas turned up and there were three, so we mentioned they were meant to be four as per the menu, and the waitress brought another one and it was frozen literally frozen it was freezing cold!!!!!! She apologised and said they had a new supplier, we were under the impression that Indian night was all home-cooked food, clearly not! How is a change in supplier mean it’s acceptable to serve up frozen food?’ My husband loves One of the local ales but that was off, they managed to squeeze two glasses for him out of the end of the barrel! But there were loads of lagers, yet the ales were just not to be seen. Yet another disappointment. The curries were okay one was particularly nice and the other one wasn’t really very nice but may have been just not to our liking!All in all we weren’t overly impressed!

A really decent Sunday lunch outside on a nice sunny day - the first Sunday after lockdown ended. Beautiful roast beef and pork lunches with all of the trimmings. Great soup as a starter too.

Loving the newly decorated restaurant. Very cosy and warm. We had dinner on Thursday evening. The food was well cooked and very tasty. My husband had a ribeye and trimmings-cooked well to his liking (medium rare). I had a vegan soy and beetroot burger and all the trimmings including vegan mayonnaise which tasted like normal mayo. All very tasty and very reasonably priced. All the staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend.

We visited to enjoy my birthday with family just as the rules changed (again) but despite this, they were well organised and really looked after us. The new table service rules worked and staff put on a smile despite the extra workload enforced by the government. Drinks were plentiful and the food was superb. That plus a few laughs is all we could ask for in 2020. Thanks for looking after us. Definitely recommended.

We ate here twice on holiday. Both meals were excellent. Staff are lovely with good service. We were able to enjoy eating outside in the beautiful weather. The burgers and the Scottish cranachan (whiskey) dessert was delicious. Great place to eat at any time but especially after a walk up Garway Hill. Have to add that the toilets are wonderful too!

This was the first place we visited after lockdown and the expeience was so good we keep going back. Excellent Covid arrangements make you feel safe. Good value food, and a great Sunday lunch. Lovely pub and my friends really enjoyed their food. Please be careful though if you have dairy intolerance as the vegan option with vegetables came out with couliflour cheese and when I explained that I didnt expect the meal to have cheese on it as I'm dairy intolerant (and it was described as vegan), they apologised nicely and willingly brought another dinner out. Unfortunately this second attempt had buttered carrots which I unfortunatly did eat one. I could tell really good food, so I want to say a fair review, but unfortunately I couldn't eat there with my friends today I didnt feel the food was safe for my dietary requirements and I think its only the responsible thing to do to share it now as intolerances and allergies are just so important.

We stayed for two nights and absolutely loved the stay.The room was very clean and tidy with a comfy bed and nice shower and bath. There was also tea and coffee facilities along with tv and WiFi.The bar is well stocked with real ales and a great variety of spirts or lagers.We had full English breakfast both mornings with coffee, cereal and orange juice. The main menu has a great selection of dishes all very reasonably priced as well a specials board with again at least 6 other very different choices.I had a steak which was cooked perfectly and my wife had chowder which looked and smelt great, she said it was lovely.Overall a very homely and welcoming place to stay. All the staff and landlords made the stay comfortable.Would highly recommend.

'The Moon', a great country pub with beautiful walks nearby* and a village common plus kids' play area opposite, serves the best Wye Valley Brewey HPA in the area: delicious. * Including Garway Hill Common, offering a variety of walks and fabulous views.

Sign by door says open lunchtimes. Newer sign on door says closed lunchtimes Mon to Fri. We had just arrived from finding the Bell at Skenfrith closed due to flooding, so eventually ended up at The Bridge at Kentchurch, which had also suffered in the flooding, but was able to offer a passable menu.

We dined here 3 times during our fortnight stay nearby in Wales. On each occasion the food was delicious with the cauliflower, cheese and courgette soup being particularly scrummy. The rib eye steak was tender and cooked to perfection as was the chicken with pesto.It wasn't just the quality of the food that saw us return - the staff were all lovely and created a very relaxing atmosphere.We'll definitely return next time we are in the area.

We visited on Saturday night and had a lovely meal. The atmosphere was also great. We had the cauliflower and cheese soup which was the best soup I've ever eaten with warm bread and beautifully tasting butter. It was a meal in itself but we still had main courses to come!!They were also very nice and could have been served in a fine dining restaurant with a much bigger price tag. Chef and staff always look happy- our young male waiter could have been more confident as he met every request and was very accommodating.Overall it was a lovely evening with some of the best pub food we've ever tasted!!Good wine list too!

I had a bavette steak which was expertly cooked and came with a herby, chili sauce thing. Really tasty. Girlfriend had a spectacular Spanish cod dish with a chorizo and olive sauce. Friendly unfussy place with great food. Glad to see that someone is trying to do something a bit different and doing it well.

Had Sunday lunch today. I had the local slow roasted lamb which was absolutely delicious and highly recommended. Other half had Coq Au Vin, which was traditionally made and superb. All 3 courses were excellent, prepared and presented to a very high standard. Service was efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. Pricing is reasonable. Will definitely return.

We stayed for two nights and so glad we did. (review for the B&B on trip adviser also)first day there we had the bar snack meal and the burger was really great and the chips where the best i've had in years. the owners "Ash & andrezza" where such nice people and Ash is a very impressive cook which we found out on the Tuesday night when he did a curry night. Loads of food and tasted amazing, we do like a curry now and then but this was one of the best places we have been to and the naan bread was amazing. I would love to have stayed one more night just to see what the food was like on other nights.Well worth the trip.

You may need your satnav to find this stunning pub and restaurant on the Herefordshire/Monmouthshire border but you will be rewarded when you get there. Really varied and exciting menu with daily specials on the board. If you’re a fan of the old faithfuls - burgers or fish and chips - you won’t be disappointed. But there are plenty more interesting options especially fish specialities and some mouthwatering Spanish-inspired dishes. I was eyeing up the Spanish board of serrano ham, manchego, olives and crusty bread but settled for delicious smoked haddock croquettas with curry mayonnaise. The minted strawberry shortcake was a revelation! Crumbly, buttery homemade shortcake flecked with fresh garden mint with local strawberries and cream. My home city of Cardiff has hundreds of pubs and restaurants but it’s hard to think of any serving food as good as this. Well worth an hour’s drive through some countryside for gastro pub food at its finest.

We hadn’t visited the pub in a few years as the previous owner was not very friendly or hospitable. Well, we have been missing out. Lovely food , great selection and quality and a friendly greeting. Do go visit.

Despite being quiet (not sure why!) we had a fantastic pub lunch here. Just a sandwich and an extraordinary ploughman’s - but very tasty and great value for money. Lovely location and friendly staff too. Highly recommended.

Visited on a Thursday lunch to make use of their beer garden with 2 children. The owners young daughter played with one of my children and let him ride her bike....kept him quiet whilst we ate!

After finding this place on a tuesday night and having a wonderful curry the last two visits have been disappointing with watery, no flavoured sauce. The service is always good but a pity the curry has lost its flavour especially from a Mauritius chef.

Very friendly helpful staff. Great food. Nice area to sit out whilst children played. Wish we had been able to come back but we got thwarted. If we are ever back in your area we will return.

We were a large group of family and friends who had booked for Sunday lunch, some of our party were also staying overnight at the Inn. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and obliging. The Inn is a fine example of a country Inn that is fast disappearing set in a beautiful part of the English/Welsh borders. I would highly recommend a visit to this charming Inn.

We stayed locally for a week with the grandchildren and were in walking distance of the Garway Moon.

Just moved to Garway so thought we'd try out the Garway Moon as its within walking distance and we were relieved to have had a very pleasant evening and meal. My Dad and I enjoyed the Welsh cawl and we especially liked the electro-swing playlist and very good service.

Whilst in the area I try to eat at least once at the Garway Moon. I arrived on Sunday ready for the week ahead and booked a table for Sunday lunch. What a treat!

We have eaten here three times in the last week whilst staying locally. We all enjoyed our roast dinners on Sunday, my husband and I returned for excellently cooked steak on Wednesday and tonight we ate delicious curry. The staff are all friendly and attentive. Great value for money too!

We stayed at The Garway Moon Inn for a few days in the area having booked an experience day of Oldfield Forge, just a few roads away.

The room- Stayed overnight with a lovely room, massive bathroom, and everything that you could need. Dropped abit cold in the room at night due to the wind coming over the hills, but there were extra blankets to hand.

Over an hour wait for leathery beef, cold lasagne and dry roast chicken (which was not what I ordered). The young staff were doing their very best but the kitchen was letting them down badly. The pub was freezing cold too, kept my thick fleece on throughout the interminable meal and arrived home very cold. Ate here before Christmas and the food was good- so what's changed? Such a disappointment.

We had great expectations for our Sunday roast but unfortunately we were all very disappointed.

We were in the area today for a few hours, travelling from Barry. The staff were welcoming and helpful but what came out of the kitchen, let the experience down. As TallPaul stated in the review posted also today, the gravy was salty, like swallowing seawater. The chicken breast in my opinion seemed as if it was cooked from scratch, in a microwave. The flesh had surrendered and looked so strange, with an odd fishy odour too. However, we ate all our food as we were extremely hungry. A tad oxymoron-ish I know! The veg was fresh and not frozen, which is great but only 2 desserts to choose from. Perhaps there is only a cook in the kitchen and not a chef? To also end on a positive note, it was clean and tidy.

This pub does not match up to the reviews it has on TripAdvisor (and certainly not the images of food either!), we arrived at 2pm and were told food was still being served although there was a half an hour wait. We thought this would be fine so we brought the kids in and (after waiting a while to get a drink) we made our lunch order. The menu is simple, so we ordered burgers and chips and sausages and chips for the kids. We waited over an hour and a half to receive our food, despite there being three people working in the kitchen and only ourselves and another family waiting for food as the pub was only a third full throughout our visit. When we received our lunch at 3.45 we were literally the only people left in the pub! Not very atmospheric to say the least....

We were running late and looking for a quick sandwich so popped in here. We weren't optimistic at first as there was no one else around but they could not have been nicer and provided us with two excellent chicken and bacon ciabatta rolls and chips. All freshly made and with loads of filling, served quickly and excellent value. The guy even lit the fire for us. Would highly recommend this place.

My wife an I have returned from a wonderful 3 night stay at the Garway Moon Inn. We stayed in the ‘Sun’ room overlooking the beautiful views of the Herefordshire country side. The room and bathroom were quite spacious and modern and have retained some of the 18 century features and charm. On the only downside, the water pressure in the shower is very low. We were initially a bit disappointed because we did not have the benefit of the restaurant for 2 of the 3 nights of our stay. This is because the check in time is after the 1500hrs restaurant closing time on a Sunday and the restaurant is closed all day Monday. That said, these times are published on their web site. The bar is open every evening though. We should have checked the website so only have ourselves to blame. Even though this is an Inn, bear in mind when booking that the boarding terms are bed and breakfast only. Breakfast was freshly made to order, generous and delicious. A lot of locals use this Inn in the evening and it is good to see that staff and locals are very supportive of the owners efforts to make a success of what is for him a new business venture. Quick wins if the owner was minded to make a modest investment would be to extend the bar Wi-fi so it can reach the rooms. Mobile signal is very fragile here so Wi-fi in all the rooms would be a bonus. We would definitely come again but probably not on a Sunday or Monday because we would like the convenience of a restaurant in the evening. Thank you Ash for your hospitality. Mark & Gaynor.

We arrived on Sunday as my fiance had arranged a surprise for me! We got to the B&B; about 16:00 but check in is usually 17:00, nevertheless they showed us to our room. We stayed in The Stars room which is above the bar. We could hear people talking but it wasn't too loud or annoying! The room was lovely. Quite large and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was large, clean and modern. They supplied hand soap, moisturiser, bubble bath and body & hair wash. I have no complaints whatsoever. We had dinner which was really nice and breakfast the next morning. I only wanted black pudding , a sausage and toast and this was no problem. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. We went to the oldfield forge on the Monday (which was my surprise!) And it is just around the corner really for there so stay here if that's where you're going.

Dropped in by chance hoping to get a meal without booking and we were seated straightaway. The special, cod loin, was excellent, service very friendly - overall a good experience.
