Very good service, and the food was excellent. We were only there for three days, but would definately go again if we were in the area. I had the vegan curry each time, and thoroughly enjoyed it, the wine was also properly served and of good quality. Reasonable prices too. I would recommend going here.

Great local pub catering for both locals and those just passing through. We had booked a camper spot on our way to north Devon and took an evening meal whilst staying Staff were excellent - a credit to the establishment wide range of menu with some nice specials Service was very good and we will definitely come back The only reason I gave 4/5 was I would have like a slightly more extensive vegetarian menu something perhaps with cheese on it however it did cater well for vegans with 3 different choices thankfully non of which were the fake meat variety seen now in so many pubs

Absolutely awful... never going there again. Home cooked food they said. More like frozen rubbish... When we complained the manager never even came out to discuss it but sent the barman to deal with it. What a disgrace

We had travelled from Cambridge to Winchcombe camping site on Thursday June 27th and decided in the evening to walk to the local pub which was just under a mile away as we always like to support local businesses. We set off at 8pm and arrived at the Gardeners Arms in Alderton at 8.45pm at a very unpleasant reception. The pub is advertised as being open until 10pm Monday to Thursday. I could tell immediately we were not welcome. There were no words of welcome in fact there were no words. We had our drinks but the young girl hadn’t really spoken and we sat down. The resident dog came in and she immediately whisked it away. I asked what breed it was and she muttered something under her breath. On her return I said to her Sorry did we upset you by coming in. No! was the very stern reply. A young boy came in to buy drinks to take away and her attitude to him was totally different. She then after a while started turning off the bar lights and other lights. It was a very unpleasant experience and it must be remembered that this particular sector that she is working in is the hospitality sector which is suffering a great deal at the moment with many pubs having to close. Being hospitable and pleasant costs nothing.

On our way back from Plymouth after a holiday and wanted to break the journey up back up north. We came across this place on Google and called to see if they would let us reserve a place for food and a camper van spot for the night. After calling and being greeted by a lovely person on the other end, we decided to make our way over there. From the moment we arrived we were given an extremely warm welcome and were asked whether we had found everything we needed, which we had. Hook up available too if we needed it. We had a beer in the lovely beer garden, set up our van and went to the pub for food. Really nice menu, not too much on it, which in my opinion shows they concentrate on the dishes they serve. Ordered salmon salad and the beef and ale pie which was lovely, the staff really couldn't do enough. I had a lovely chat with the Landlady who had a really friendly attitude. After our meal we played board games, Connect 4, Othello and dominoes, as were all the othe people/families in there. The bar staff were really friendly and really couldn't do enough for us. Really can't recommend this place enough 😀 If you're looking for somewhere give this place a go 👍

We visited for dinner and this has to be the worst experience we have had in a long time ! The burgers were hand made and had very odd looking seeds and other odd looking things in them and absolutely dripping in grease! The onion ring were worse ! When we mentioned it there was no apologies just an ‘oh’ and ‘what do you mean!’ Terrible customer service . Very very poor all we got was a pointless 15% off! The back outside area looks very run down. The pub was terribly quiet that says a lot ! Will sure never return here !

We visited the Gardener's Arms a year ago while we were staying close by. We were back this year so felt confident we would get the same level of food and service as we had before. We were very wrong.. The restaurant was packed, we think there was at least one large group but maybe two. After ordering , the young waitress came over to tell us and three other tables we would have to wait longer for our meals due to the large group. We had ordered whitebait as starters and on the menu it is described as coming with tartar sauce. When it came, there was no tartar sauce, we were told to use the plastic pouches on the table. Only a small point but surely, if something is described as such on the menu, that is how it should be served. I ordered the fish pie and my husband had the chilli con carne. My fish pie was over £18 and all I found in it were a couple of pieces of salmon, one piece of white fish topped off with a mound of mashed potato. My husband's chilli was seriously lacking meat, just all sauce. We felt cheated and decided not to stay for dessert. All evening there was just two young girls serving plus the barman and, considering the amount of work they had to do coped well. Our main complaint was the quality of the food. Needless to say we will never return.

I feel a bit bad writing this seeing as it gets so many good reviews. We visited for Sunday lunch with friends and a dog. The pictures on the website made the pub and the food look amazing, I was really looking forward to a ‘home cooked’ Sunday lunch. The whole experience though left me very under whelmed. I thought that the pub looked very tired and tatty with ‘chintzy’ signs up on the walls placed since the website pictures were taken. It also looked quite grubby, as though it needed a good clean. The area that we sat in at the back of the restaurant was cold with a solitary fan heater trying to warm the space up. The lady who greeted us when we arrived (manager/owner?) was very pleasant and friendly and showed us to our table. The rest of serving staff seemed inexperienced and almost as if they didn’t know what they were doing. The food was ok, very good sized portions but could have been hotter. It passed as a fairly decent Sunday lunch but I thought for the whole experience it was pricey for the setting and what we got. Wouldn’t return.

We were staying at nearby Tewksbury and came across this pub when searching for a dog friendly place to eat. What made this place stick out from the rest was the fact that your furry friends can eat with you as they have their own food menu. On arrival we were greeted by Teddy the owners dog and were promptly guided to a table. Our dog was given a bowl of water while we ordered food. There was a good selection of food available including vegetarian. All the food was delicious and made with good produce. Our dog also had his own main and dessert. This was hoovered up so can safely say no complaints from him. This was officially his first pub dinner and what a good one it was. 100% recommend a visit if you’re in the area whether you have a dog or not. We certainly would go again and would especially like to go in the warmer weather to enjoy the garden.

We visited this pub having been recommended by the local caravan site. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by a friendly staff to a lovely looking environment. Unfortunately we were placed at a table that had not been cleaned/sanitised following the previous guests and we had to request that this be rectified. This was of course of particular concern with COVID precautions clearly not being followed. The menu was varied and I chose a dish from the daily menu - sea bass with coconut rice and Mediterranean vegetables. ( one of the most expensive choices on the menu). On arrival the fish, although nicely cooked, was literally swimming in a huge pool of oil and the Mediterranean vegetables consisted of a pile onions and just 3 sugar snap peas. My husband chose the Oriental Prawn stir fry and whilst he enjoyed the dish, it again was awash with a large quantity of an oily sauce.Needless to say we both sadly came away disappointed.

I have given the pub a poor review for one reason only, their failure to adhere to Covid rules. We were met and greeted by a masked bubbly friendly waitress. We were not asked to register or use the location app. When she took our ordered the masks had vanished. It didn’t reappearAnother waiter was also serving, he spent some time walking around the pub masked sometimes unmasked.During the evening, this dog friendly pub, allowed someone (staff?) to walk around the pub unmasked and she eventually sat at the bar and ate…the lady behind the bar was unmasked all night. Some customers arrived unmasked and were shown to their table with no comments. To some this may seem petty, but they simply were not meeting required standards front of house. All is such a shame as the food is good, the range of drinks is good, and masked or unmasked the staff are friendly

We have spent a few nights staying within a mile of this pub. We’d heard that there were two pubs within walking distance of where we were staying. You can read my very positive review of the other pub from my profile. The Gardeners Arms has the making of a great pub. The staff were very keen and attentive to our needs. Not a bad choice of drinks on offer and a relatively clean and comfortable offering in terms of tables. We were greeted and offered a number of seating options, given that it was 5pm on a sunny Sunday afternoon this did make me nervous. It certainly wasn’t busy. The issues started from the moment I started to read the menu. It smacked of quick turnaround food and lacked anything different. It was a menu that matched any chain based pub(not that I am saying this one is).We ordered drinks and then food. My partner chose a salmon salad and I took the Sunday mix roast with freshly carved pink beef. My partners meal was about £13 and mine was £21.50 once I had added cauliflower cheese(£2.50) as a side(?).My heart sank when the food came out. For £21.50 I got served a very large plate of food, but sadly the meat looked to me like it had just been re-heated and looked very poor in quality. The plate included a portion of cauliflower on the side, but then I was also served the additional side dish of cauliflower cheese. At least with the extra side dish covered in sauce I couldn’t see the grey and dismal looking cauliflower that I could see on my main plate. I called over the waitress who, to be fair, quickly attempted to rectify the situation. I was brought another plate of beef in just a few minutes, but this was not freshly carved pink beef either. It looked like the sort of beef you get in a microwave dinner for one. Very disappointing. Sadly, after speaking with my partner, I took the decision to send back my meal and ask for it to be removed from the bill. This was done and we were offered a complimentary drink, which we declined. To be honest the food was a disgrace and as I said to the manager, it was probably the worst Sunday dinner I had ever been served. My partners meal was just about ok and we agreed that we would only flag to the staff the issue with my meal. We quickly left and settled our bill which after another discussion was calculated correctly. We have been touring around the south, south west and south midlands of England for 10 days. Every other meal we’ve had has been great quality. There is a lot that the Gardeners Arms could learn from their neighbouring pub in Gretton. Prices were lower and the food was exceptional there.

We had decided on a garden table but when we booked talked it through as weather very unsettled.....they offered a heated pod. On arrival they were extremely welcoming and did everything to make us feel safe. We could see that the restaurant was well set up to ensure social distancing. We started in the pod but found it a little chilly and asked if we could move inside. The waiter was delightful and couldn’t be more helpful. The food arrived - excellent home cooking with fresh veg. So glad we picked this restaurant for our return to eating out. By the time we left - life seemed to be returning to normal and It has given us the confidence to do it again. We visited today for my son’s birthday lunch, four of us and his 8 month old daughter. We booked online and they had a high chair waiting for us at the table. Thee is a children’s menu, she had the meatballs and linguine and loved it! My son had the deconstructed Coq au vin, (three different ways of cooking chicken on a plate, including a confit leg and a miniature Kiev), my daughter in law the moules mariniere, my husband the twice baked belly of pork (with crackling) and I had an ingenious scotch egg made with haddock instead of meat. All utterly delicious - only 2 of us could venture onto dessert but those were yummy too (Eton Mess, and the other one was brownies). We had ventured out in the pouring rain for this lunch and it was well worth the trip. We are staying at a nearby 5 star hotel in Broadway and the food there, which costs the same and for many things more, is not a patch on this pub. Well done to the chef and the management, a real gem of a gastro pub and to be commended to anyone who is prepared to pay for really good food with excellent service to support it.

No me hubiera importado si no hubiera llegado frío y aparentemente crudo.

Our Airbnb host recommended so we found our way to this pub which was about 2/3 miles from Dumbleton.Loved the fact they do a doggie menu as a novelty but we didn’t indulge our boy.Nevertheless this is a very dog friendly pub and we met the owners dog Ted. We both had the GA Burgers which were home made and delicious but a little more expensive than the £11.95 we buy in our quality local.Having said that we were pleasantly surprised to find the eat out scheme had been extended this month which made them cheaper than we pay at home. The owners and staff were attentive and very friendly.

We had high Hope's when we pulled up outside this lovely looking thatched pub. We read the reviews and thought we'd have lunch. Firstly the interior does not match exterior so if you are looking traditional charm, this is not the place. The menu reads very well and looked expensive. I ordered fish and chips at £16.95 and my wife ordered Duck and ginger noodle stir fry at £17.95. To put that into perspective the noodles were more expensive than Michelin starred Hakkassan in central London. The fish and chips were average, nothing special at all and the noodle were covered in some kind of packet sauce and not particularly nice. I'm not saying the food was disgusting but please realistic with your value propersition. Overpriced food and left underwhelmed. We had a fantastic evening at the Swan near Eckington which was so much nicer.. really good quality food, honestly priced.

We went here mainly due to most of the dishes being gluten free. It is a lovely old fashioned pub but with loads of space to ensure safe distancing. There is an excellent choice and we had one burger a mushroom burger a fisherman’s pie and a pork belly. Food quality was of the highest order and the service was excellent. Prices are on the high side with all meals around the £16 - 19 mark and a bottle of merlot costing £26. However the pub is continuing the Eat Out to Help Out deal for Monday to Wednesday so we had puddings and got £10 off each meal. This is a great place to eat but just be aware the prices are slightly on the high side if you are on a tight budget. We loved it though.

We visited The Gardeners Arms for Monday lunch after our walk and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The Covid 19 related safety measures were in place and adhered to; the service was spot on (and staff still smiling despite the fact that the place was getting very busy) and the food (Fish & chips and Fisherman’s pie) was excellent (came steaming hot and as honest servings). We welcomed the fact that the management decided to continue with the scheme “Eat out to help out” - much appreciated. We’ll be back - thank you!

We have visited twice recently taking advantage of the government scheme. The staff where very welcoming taking everyones temperature on arrival. The staff wear face masks and are were very attentive. The menu is quite varied but good. We all had different dishes so had a good cross section of the menu and all arrived hot and well presented. Eating certanly did not dissapont, the food was excellent as was the establishments atmosphere. The tables are well spaced and all the usual antiseptic gels in good supply. We had two very ejoyable evenings to which end we will be returning for a further dinner next week. I reccoment a visit and booking in advance as establishment was very busy on both our visits.

Went this evening for a birthday meal with the familyWe have visited a while ago and it was great, apparently new management has taken over since then but after this visit I don’t think any of us will be returning.Staff were a bit out of it and slow, missed things off our order and brought other things we hadn’t ordered. I myself am a vegetarian so wasn’t much of a variety to choose from but the mushroom&truffle veggie burger description sounded really nice so ordered that. Was super disappointed tasted of nothing, for a price mark of £15.95 would have thought it’d have abit more to it! Side veg was hard and watery, no butter or any seasoning like described on menuOther people on our table hadn’t enjoyed their food either, so at this point some of us just wanted to leave. However decided to see if the place could make up for it with their desserts. £7.50 for a Eton mess that comes in a small jam jar? Had to send it back due to the fruit being rock hard stuck together from being frozen. When we asked a waitress if this is how it’s meant to be she replied with ‘yes you ordered the ice cream’ ♀️??Just reflected the service really, not checked on often. When ever they did come over they’d only ask 2 people at one side of the table for something neglecting the whole other side so they’d have to do multiple trips because the table wasn’t asked if we wanted anything else so we’d have to constantly get their attention. Ok we attended while the establishment is doing the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme so we did get a percentage off but even with that I still left paying £30 and not happy with anything really.

Greeted by owner Wendy who with our server Izzy made us most welcome. Restaurant was set up to be Covid secure and we felt very safe. The food was excellent with huge portions and the steak and stilton pie was among the best I have had. Reasonable prices made even better by their decision to extend the government's £10 deal. Would definitely return if we are in the area.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable evening in this dog friendly restaurant. Food was lovely and service excellent. Sadly one of the mains we selected was not available but that happens. The downside was the price of desserts - £7.50 for an Eton Mess I did not feel was good value at all. Would come again but wouldn’t buy desserts.

We were visiting a show at Sudeley Castle and had researched pubs/restaurants in the area before our time of admission to the Castle grounds - The Gardeners Arms appeared to be the best bet. We phoned en route to book a table and were brightly welcomed. Upon arrival Mike made us most welcome, he was a charming host, and obviously managed a very well-run establishment, staff were attentive and bright, good beers and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Our lunch was excellent, we can certainly recommend the home-made steak pie, vegetables nicely al dente. Alderton is lucky to have such a pub in the village.

A party of 4 we enjoyed an evening at this pub with a little help paying the bill courtesy of Rishi Sunak. As you can’t go to the bar in the present climate it would have been good if the waitress knew what beers and ciders where available to save her shoe leather! The food was perfectly ok - my wife had a very good fisherman’s pie and it was of a decent size and tasty. Two of us had the beef burger in sour dough bap with chips - again it was fine. The young lady who took our order implied that these came with onion rings - they don’t (I accept that if you read the tiny print on the menu it didn’t say onion rings included ) and are actually a side order at £4.50 although my friend who had them never actually got a side order of them. I guess they were stuffed into the burger. So check what you are buying if cost is an issue. For me it is about integrity and not tricking customers into an up selling situation. It went a bit wrong when we ordered deserts - around the room were pictures of the Gardeners Arms food and thinking the Eton Mess (£7.50) looked excellent despite being a bit pricey that is what we went for. You may imagine our disappointment when two small jam jars appeared containing our puddings. So we sent them back as they were very poor value even if Rishi was helping out a bit! The owners explanation was that it had been really busy and they had run out of plates!!Interestingly where we were staying another couple had Eton mess at the pub a few days before and theirs came in a jam jar - it must have been busy that day as well!!!!Honesty and integrity - that is all that is needed not lies. They always catch you out.

This pub is just along the road from the cottage that we're staying in for the week and had been recommended by previous occupants. It was an exceptionally hot evening and I really felt for the staff under the new regime having to wear face masks. All staff were a credit to the pub, friendly and helpful. We were seated immediately and sat near to an open door (much appreciated). Our order was taken promptly and arrived in good time. The food was lovely and with the Gardeners Arms taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme it was a very reasonable evening out. They have a great garden too with a novel double decker bus serving drinks outside. Just wish it was our local pub! Thanks for a lovely evening.

This very friendly pub restaurant provides an enjoyable atmosphere with their lovely white alsation as a talking point. Service is excellent but neither of our meals were outstanding. My meat balls on fetuchini were average and the meat balls were cool in the centre whilst my wife's ale pie was small and not rich with meat. The ice cream desert became outstanding by adding delicious summer fruits and marshmallow; it was the best part of the meal.Whilst we both love Rose wine, we felt that the Zinfandel was overpriced at £26.00 a bottle.

Character pub well supported by locals with cosy fire burning in typical old English pub surroundings. We felt very welcome as we looked forward to our Sunday lunch. Apparently they have only been serving Sunday lunch for a few week and for sure they have it right. Tender pink roast beef served with parsnips, carrots, cabbage, roast potatoes and a good sized Yorkshire pudding. A further side dish to share with cauliflower cheese, red cabbage and swede. All very tasty. It’s not a huge pub, a number of folk were disappointed and had to return later with a booking, but well worth it. Surely one of the best Sunday Roasts in Tewkesbury.

How the heck can they say that it's the "Home of the roast". I think Britons were enjoying roast lunches long before Toby existed. Been here many times and would describe the food as passable but not great. Visited late in the afternoon. Was difficult to get served - no-one at the food counter and required 3 requests by waiting staff for someone to come and carve the meat. The food was barely warm and a strange taste pervaded all the items which left me feeling nauseous. Potatoes were leathery and extremely difficult to cut. Maybe this was something to do with going later in the day?

Booked a table for 8 well in advance. Were asked to pre-order because of the table size. Arrived on Friday night in plenty of time for the booking and were rushed to the table with the manager asking if she could start serving starters. We asked if we could order drinks first because we were not in a rush having all travelled 100+ miles and had arrived before the booked time. The manager said that they had another large table booked (clearly taking priority) and encouraged us to start eating!! Starters arrived which were good. Then mains arrived very quickly afterwards, including two plain cod dishes which had not been ordered and weren’t on the menu. The manager returned to the kitchen to be told by the chefs that they were a replacement for fish stew which had not been delivered by the suppliers (so not made on premises). She admitted that she did not know fish stew was unavailable, bizarre given she is the manager and what she said later!! Neither of the two people who had ordered the now unavailable fish stew wanted a piece of cod and had to re-order whilst the remaining six started eating the main courses. Surely, we should have been told when we all sat down that two choices were unavailable and given the opportunity to order another main course at the start of the meal so that all mains arrived together?? We assumed (foolishly) that the two replacement main courses (steak and risotto) would be given priority because the other six main courses had been served. Twenty-five minutes later nothing had arrived and the manager had avoided any form of contact and issued no apology, in fact was chatting happily in the kitchen. One of our party entered the kitchen to cancel the order because the rest of the table had now finished. The manager told him to be patient because it takes at least 25 minutes to cook a steak, which was definitely disputed - more like 4 minutes! Risotto takes several hours to prepare so was presumably ready and bubbling away in a pan!!!! We asked the manager why we had not been contacted about supply problems prior to our arrival or at least asked to re-select when we first arrived, she then said that she had tried to contact us which was a major contradiction (in view of her previous comments) and definitely not the case. Given the nods of support from other diners this was pointed out to her by one of our party who was then asked to leave. The rest of us followed suit although agreed to pay for drinks, not the food (which was indifferent at best). The restaurant lost several hundred pounds because of this incident which could have been avoided with a more proactive management stance. On a more positive note, we all went to No5 restaurant on the Saturday night had a wonderful time and enjoyed some exquisite food. Top Tip spend your money at No 5 a couple of doors down North Street.
