Oakwood in Tewkesbury

Saturday, 18th May 2024, 1 night. Due to refurbishment, restaurant was closed, so no evening meal or breakfast for us. The room was tidy, clean, and recently decorated. However, the bed was the most uncomfortable I've ever experienced. Although we were expecting a double, it was only 4ft wide and very short. The fitted bottom sheet was too small and kept riding up off the mattress corners. Definitely not worth the £75 per night we were charged.

Should have read the previous good and bad reviews. Clearly the 5 star reviews have never been to this hotel . If you could call it a hotel . Bar was closed food truck shut too . Avoid if you can and try elsewhere

A great night's sleep in what once was a Premier Inn. Far cheaper than the cheapest Premier Inn locally. It's cheap and we got a friendly welcome, comfy clean room, free parking and free WiFi.

Black mould in bathroom sealant , smell in bathroom was disgusting. Complained but was told that to change rooms would incur additional charges. Overall customer care out of ten …zero

Best thing to sum this place up .... read the reviews Musty smell due to it being ,premier inn many years ago same carpets through main Areas and rooms. Toilet smelly due to it night flushing properly

Freezing cold room which also shuts the heating down when you leave and take the card out the machine. I had to wear my clothes in bed. Not comfortable at all. They could have at least switched the heating on for a few hours knowing someone was checking in..

The room was a lovely and clean just freshly redecorated shame that the restaurant was not open but was closed due to being refurbished but there was a snack van their that served food and the nachos were gorgeous will definitely come here again ☺️

Generic, uninspiring. The bath was very short, so my legs were bent up, knees couldn't get in the water. Flowerbeds outside were full of nettles, ragged, unloved.

OK for an overnight stay for business . Good location for Gloucester Town center

AWFUL PLACE. Stayed here for 6 nights. It’s an old Premier Inn, and it needs a total refurbishment. Bathroom was dreadful, mattress even worse……should be shut down.

Quiet and peaceful stay. The spaces are well kept, clean and spacious; however, would need minor updates (soap dispensers). The place is a 40 min walk from town or a ten mins bus. The location is excellent should you want to enjoy the calm and serenity. They have a food truck on site, a massive car park and a open restaurant. Staff was helpful.

The receptionist was friendly. That's the only good thing I can say about this hotel. The rooms are outdated and small. You have to let them copy your ID and fill in personal info just to check-in. The rude staff barged straight into the room twice in the morning demanding we check out despite paying extra for late checkout (1pm). Similarly poor experience at another "Roomsbooked" hotel. You get what you pay for. Avoid avoid avoid.

Overall enjoyed my stay here the rooms where a bit old fashioned and the location is a bit remote, the staff were friendly and helpful tho. I was unsure about the food prices too

When our twin room was booked we informed them that we were disabled and we needed a shower cubicle because we could not get into a bath we were told it would not be a problem when we got there the room was on the ground floor that was great but the bathroom did not have a shower cubicle it was a shower over a bath we had a wedding to go to the day after and neither of us could wash our hair or have a shower the window cill was dirty and grubby there was dust all around the lamps we were very disappointed and will not be staying there again

Very warm so had to leave the window open and as on a noisy road a bit disturbing. The room was clean, the bed was comfy . Easy to get into town. Lots of parking.

Absolutely loved our stay here for my daughter's 18th birthday! The friendliest staff you could ever meet, massive bedrooms, super comfy beds and gorgeous food from the van!

Booked for a night away. Odd system as once booked via the net I then had to ring them once I got my verification email to pay the bill. Decent location, room we had was on the opposite side to the ones facing the road so was quiet. Small rooms but suitable for one night stays. Room could di with an update and same with the bathroom however was clean and no dirty carpet. TV good as could get Netflix on it. Staff pleasant enough but young chap didn't ask us upon leaving if we had a nice stay or not. The old pickup truck out the front could do with being kept in better condition as two of the tyres were flat and it needed bit of a wash and polish. Would be a good idea to place some pots of flowers in the back of the pickup to make it more inviting. Also the old unused restaurant would look better without the painters white wash on the windows and doors and blocked off with boarding or signage. Internet was better than most hotels and although we ate out the food truck, especially in this sunny weather is a great idea while sitting outside in the garden. Would stay again despite any negatives.

Stayed here for 1 night. Room was very good and comfortable bed. Bathroom could do with better lighting

Enjoyed our night here .Truth be, don't think the lights went on lol got there 10pm I can tell you the bed was so ,so comfy went out like a light. Woke up and took some quick picks. It's was a large room ,looks very comfy and clean ,had a quick wash and change, and managed to get out just before the deadline . 😀, I blame the bed so comfy ,

Quaint little place , view from the window was amazing , great outdoor area to relax and enjoy the summer sun . Room was well lit , all furnishings were pretty updated and well balanced with the aesthetics of the location. Was a good stay .

Rooms are basic but toilet smells very very badly even if it’s not been used. I’m assuming it’s because of the ventilation please fix this as it is unbearable

Only spent one night in Oakward Hotel, and was in a disabled room. The bath was too slippy and there was no slip mat for use. Other than that, the Hotel was ideal for our purpose.

Nice sized rooms where I must say the shower stands out for its dimension and water features. Big free parking next to the petrol station and with a pub attached to it with a big garden. The place is also quite convenient from the value dor money. Location wise its 12 min from Gloucester centre so clearly non the best placement but I highly recommend it for all the rest.

I left something important in the hotel room but the staff member was kind enough to help posting it back to me. Can't thank them enough for this!! 👍👍👍👍

Always a friendly and professional welcome - this hotel is clean, quiet and easy to get to with plenty of parking. This is our second stay here and we love it! Will definitely be our “go to” place in Gloucester.

Disgusting hotel. Avoid. Coughing receptionist handing out key cards to the public after coughing all over them. They want all the info the can gain on you or your refused check in.

This is definitely not fancy, but for what you are paying it's excellent value. Room are very clean and the location is very good.

Situated in a nice tucked away location rooms are spacious clean and warm would highly recommend

I don’t know how anyone is complaining. It’s the cheapest hotel around. The room I stayed in is dated but very clean. The hotel is undergoing a renovation and you can clearly see what has and hasn’t been renovated. There is a food van outside the bar but this isn’t like a roadside greasy burger van. It sells all sorts of food and it’s extremely tasty and good portions. The two ladies on the front desk were extremely polite, helpful and happy. You get what you pay for. If you’re looking for a nice holiday break away it probably won’t be the perfect place but if you are working away it’s absolutely perfect.

A fair place to stay in an emergency..The building is tired and carried heavy memories of an old Premier Inn. Reception staff good.

My dad stayed here due to working in the area had no heating or hot water in his room and bin didnt get emptied

Last minute stop off needed near to Tewkesbury, came across this little find, basic style hotel looks like its newly been renovated, easy to book and check in nice exceptionally clean room , gorgeous modern bathroom large room with a comfy bed , food was available and a bar but on this occasion we didn't use these facilities. Staff were friendly too. If your looking for a basic stay its perfect

Good location, large car park, easy check in and out, all staff very friendly. Good things: Room was spacious, really lovely bathroom with a double rain shower head Bad things: Window was open when I checked in just before 10pm, it was 4 degrees outside and dropping. The room was so cold, all that was in the room to heat was an awful electric radiator, which took a couple of hours to warm up the room. There were no instructions on how to use it, so it was a guessing game due to the timer function someone had evidently played around with before. Cannot leave the heating on when you leave the room, as the key card shuts off the electric to the room when you leave, so you return it's absolutely freezing and the cycle of heating the room up starts again. Due to this, I didn't enjoy my 3 night stay as it was such an ordeal just to get warm. I would stay again when its warmer, but the heating system alone is enough to put me off. Shame!

Really nice room very high standard

Water leaking on stairs, shower leaking throughout the night, can hear the busy traffic outside, light shines under door from outside, there were hairs in the bed and room took ages to warm up as the heating only comes on when room is powered up. Think I'll stick to premier Inn from now on better rooms and better choice for food.

Stayed for one night the room was clean and comfortable ...staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble ....would definitely stay again if we were in the area

The room was basic but clean. The bedside table (part of headboard) was missing on 1 side of bed could see the holes where it had been removed. No toilet roll holder in bathroom so just left on shelf behind toilet. We didn't eat here but it's a van outside by the patio area. Lovely large patio area, plenty of seating and umbrellas. Breakfast available to purchase, burgers, pizza etc available later. What happens when it's raining. There is seating in the bar but not sure of the ordering process!! Has had some renovation work done but more needed.

An interesting location. Somewhat of a maze of rooms. Rooms clean & well kept. Check in process easy & uncomplicated. Staff friendly & approachable. At a time when major chains in Gloucester boost prices to a ridiculous level a real no brainer of a choice. However lots of the room furnishings seem to have been wrestled from ex Premier Inn sites. So while they aim to be a budget price provider current location is overpriced for a little more you can get the real deal. I would be interested to see how they shape up when they eventually finish. At that point it may match their prices.Anyone turning up after dark however would be advised to bring a torch. Aspects of danger with no lights in the car park & no clear signage as to where / how to get to reception. Even the camera with flash struggled to see!

Clean basic room good value for the money

I'm am afraid to say the room was very tired not very clean, the bathroom in particular was shameful the shower curtain in particular was foul ,lampshades covered in cobwebs carpets dirty . I appreciate it was cheap but no excuse to be unclean .

Lovely few days away, the down side was food and rubbish left in a drawer and the woman on reception couldn't even say good morning when I spoke to her and when we left we wasn't asked if everything was OK The outside space was brilliant Lovely to chill out in, we will be going back.

We have been staying here for the last 7 years with no issues, our last stay for two nights was 2 weeks ago, we travel from Liverpool so our journey can be between 3 to 4 hours, first night no problems, second night I was woken at 1:30 am to what can only be described as an outdoor get together with a number of people outside the reception area, singing laughing loudly obviously drinking, after half an hour of this I had to go to reception, yes ok not in the best of moods, and yes did not appreciate the night guy just sitting there at his pc , when asked why is this being allowed he answered "Which" that did infuriate me and asked him to go outside and put an end to it, which he did, but why did it take me to get out of my bed to do this, aslo when I asked the the day guy he too was none apologetic and put the blame on me for being irrate, only because I have credit left for next year's visit I would not be staying again, Rooms booked get your customer service right, the cleaners have more customer service than main reception

We arrived late Wednesday evening greeted by a young man sat at bar he said to park car around back as it's a better car park,Then I asked where we could eat he said that he could make us something which was very kind of him as his take away van was closed,Very helpful man and very polite,plus the young lady behind bar was very lovely lovely smile.The beds were comfy room great and airy spotless clean ,will recommend to others

Rooms smell disgusting like chip fat and musty together , we went out for a meal after being told last orders were 11pm. Got back at 10.30pm to be told they were closed. Poor service, poor room and unhelpful staff. Do not waste your money.

Everything is wrong with the company, the service. I called three days in advance saying I had COVID and I was very unwell. I asked to cancel the room and asked for a refund. They said NO to the refund as it's their policy and I said you want me to come and infect everyone with COVID and they said yes. DO NOT USE.........horrid company deserves to go bust

Asked for late check out due to working very late at night and require a sleep in, the hotel's card machine wasn't working so I was woken up at 10 am to make a payment then and there rather than let me rest and pay as I leave. The only reason I gave 2 stars is the staff are very nice, not their fault this this hotel has this policy.

The place has no air con did a temp check in room was at 33c offer fans but no air in the room to blow windows don't open much pillows are shocking women on desk couldn't smile to save her life fan blowing hot air round room like staying in a chicken coupe vending machine did not offer cold drinks for middle of night spent 2 nights ere and slept 0 hours was horrible Pepsi from bar tasted like water.

Friendly staff room had apparently been refurbished but unfortunately bathroom sink was tiny stone type so no use for washing?? Shower had both wall mounted and overhead nozzles but water was a tiny dribble so no shower either. We were at the back overlooking the patio. Had to put up with drunken revellers until after midnight. Loud noise from cooling fan at back of the bar all night. £76 down the drain. No offer of any refund or reduced rate if we stay again. Stayed a few times and always clean rooms with tea and coffee. Generally quiet although weekends are more noisy. Would recommend.

I'm not sure where everyone is getting the negative reviews from, I've stayed in much worse places whilst traveling for work. When I first entered the hotel I was greeted by a friendly member of staff, she took my details and told me where my room was and where the hotel bar was located. My room was clean but it had a strange bleachy smell coming from the bathroom (the bar also smelled like this), which was almost unusable because the toilet didn't have any water in the tank and you couldn't get a wash because the plug hole had been super glued shut. Other than that the room was actually quite modern looking by a hotels standard of room. The bed was actually kind of comfy but it could have been a slightly thicker mattress on the bed. The room came with a large screen smart TV (pre-loaded and logged into Netflix). The walls were paper thin and I could hear the room next door TV up until 2230 when they went to sleep and the other side was snoring all night. I think that if I had a limited budget and I had to stay in Gloucester again I'd probably consider staying here again.

Standard motel room but clean, well equipped, recently renovated and everything worked! Will use again.

Only went to the bar which is new. Bit of an odd place really. Wouldn't serve tap water as it was against health and safety but happy to serve ice in drinks from their own ice making machine. Just a strange place

Terrible hotel which has clearly lacked any investment in the right places. Bathroom was covered in black mould and shaving hairs from the previous occupant, and neither the hand soap dispenser nor the shower gel dispenser worked. Furthermore the water in the bathroom is not drinking water, which by itself is excusable, however combined with the fact there (supposedly) is not a single drinking water tap on site, is not. Instead the hotel's solution is to charge £2.50 for a 500ml bottle of water in the bar (*note to licence holder, it is against the law not to provide free potable water in a licenced premises). By far the worst thing about this hotel, however, were the beds, which had clearly not been replaced for far too long. At first it took me a while to work out why I was sleeping so poorly, and then I realised it was a result of where my mattress had a crevase moulded into it from countless years of service and the thousands of customers who had slept in it before me - this is why reputable hotels replace their mattresses frequently. With regard to the staff, most were friendly, albeit inefficient. I would strongly advise anyone wanting to stay in this area AVOID this hotel, at least until they invest significantly in refurbishing their rooms at the very least.

Ghastly! Toilet cistern didn't work. Clapped out beds. Noisy. Ridiculous layout with nowhere to put bathroom toiletries. AVOID!

Free WiFi, smart TV with netflix account already added so if you don't have netflix it's OK as their is an account with it on. Basic and fair priced.

Terrible! Room has strong smells of bleach/detol, bad if you have asthma or chest infection, basin blocked, no drinking water for the kettle they put in the room. Tap water not for drinking. Unhelpful customer care. Checked out immediately.

Perfectly good value for money. Very comfortable and clean short stay. I was a little concerned about the cleanliness following other reviews but the only dirt was from leaky soap dispensers and this place was the most affordable around for the last minute booking I needed. In good location to get to Cheltenham or Gloucester. Just be aware that they may take a £100 advance payment on race weekend. It appears the hotel is currently going through some refurbishment of the communal areas.

Terrible hotel! Not worth the price I paid £60+ . Took ages to get checked in then was asked for a £100 refundable deposit which I paid. Very poor staff not trained. Got to room moald in bathroom. Shampoo dispenser broke. Bed sheet had brown big stain on it which was absolutely disgusting! Arrived at 7pm was gone by 11pm was not going to sleep on that bed. Bed was like sleeping on a brick! Spoke to reception was helpful but told us to email customer service to get some refund bat. Will never be returning again!!!! STAY WELL AWAY!!!!

Quite and out of the way, off the main strip, out in the countryside man Road busier than I remember, must be because of all the new housing around

It's cheap for a reason. Shower not cleaned still old soap from previous guest. The dispenser was cracked and leaking.The hotel is noisy can hear other guests in other rooms. Floorboards are very squeaky. No plug sockets near the bed. The smart tv wasn't very smart. I will not be coming back here

For once , we met a wonderful receptionist Elisha who knew what a family needs to be comfortable when out on a holiday. She was instrumental in we having a pleasant stay . would any day return Take care when Navigating to the place as it is for some reason not updated and takes you to a nearby corner. Plenty of breakfast options nearby like Beefeater /premier inn and Toby horse both serving unlimited breakfast buffet for less.

Had a lovely couple of days location was perfect for what we needed staff friendly and helpful, very clean considering they are going through a refurb , will be going back the end the month thank you

Booked on first day of opening, room was basic and ok, looked like it had recently had work done to it but wasn’t ‘great quality workmanship’. Staff were extremely slow but very friendly and helpful can only see this improving over time. Was woken up early in the morning by next door THE WALLS ARE PAPER THIN! And the shower next door sounded like a chainsaw. It was a shame the restaurant wasn't open yet. Additional room fee of £100 required Which gets refunded after a few days, if the rooms not trashed. Checkout is 10am, Overall not too bad stay.
