Great staff, lovely to sit by the fire in the bar. Restaurant area felt a bit formal to me so stayed in the bar. Food was excellent but very small portions, and not cheap either. I had the gammon and could have eaten 2 plates.

Lovely place to visit. Service good, presentation of food and quality good, Everything else good. One criticism, we all felt that the servings of food could have been a little larger as the four of us were still hungry after the three course meal. Thank you.

Four of us had lunch in the restaurant last Sunday. We all ordered beef for our main course. Three of the beef meals were full of grissle a lot of which was uneatable. Fortunately mine was fine which was very odd as all the meals were served at the same time. We made the waitress aware of this at the time which received an apology. When we went to pay for the lunch she apologised again but we did not get offered a discount on the main couse. In the intervening time she had plenty of time to discuss with the manager and the chef Personally I would expect the wine to be served properly in such a nice hotel setting. We have visited the hotel many times over the years as we live nearby but we will certainly be giving it a miss in future as there are plenty of good eateries around

Stayed at the Maesmawr hotel for two nights and as we were meeting up with friends from Perth at the hotel. What a lovely setting the building was amazing comfy spacious rooms breakfast was excellent. The evening meal on both nights was excellent service was quick and served on hot plates. Best of all were the lovely staff very friendly and helpful, really enjoyed being served by Jay what a lovely guy. Shame it’s a 3 hour drive for us as it would be a place we would love to go on a regular basis. Would throughly recommend this place it was nice hearing the birds singing instead of traffic noise. Fabulous setting for a wedding or any celebration.

We decided as we were staying at Maesmawr Hall Hotel that we would bring my parents along to try out the restaurant as well as ourselves, and we were all certainly not dissapointed the presentation of both Food and drink and service is certainly on par if not better than some very high end London Restaurants but at a fraction of the price, Now for the BUT we would have liked a little more choice on the menu but do understand sometimes less is not always more and quality can go down if there are to many items, Looking forward to September when we will be hosting my Parents Diamond Wedding Anniversary at the hotel . Service was brilliant well done to all.

We’ve been a few times and the food has been good. This time we took the family and were disappointed. We had the special lunch menu. Chicken was dry roast potatoes inedible, fish batter was over done and we certainly were not expecting to be served frozen chips ! We though a restaurant of this calliper would have a chef who could make real chips !! I understand a new chef is starting here soon so let’s hope he can bring a fresh menu with fresh food

It was a beautiful sunny day, and we decided we would visit Maesmawr for the bargain 2 course lunch. We had been to a care home visit and were in need of a coffee . This we enjoyed outside in the garden; great coffee, lovely service and beautifully presented, a good 2 cups each in the pot. We then ordered tomato soup and a freshly baked roll, followed by ham, 2 eggs and chips. Beautiful. There was a good menu ,2 courses for £12.95, fantastic value. Again we were asked if we wanted to eat in the restaurant or outside. We opted for the latter. The food was hot and plentiful, with great waitress service. I still love this place, and really pleased to see it up and running again after all the problems with COVID-19.

Our friends booked this restaurant for Sunday lunch as it wasn't too far from the hotel we were staying at. We ordered the Sunday roast with pork, baked Salmon, beer battered fish with peas (which looked good arriving on the table next to us) and a chicken ceaser salad. Although the service was very good, quick and attentive we were disappointed with the food. The pork was a bit chewy and stringy (portions of which my friend left on her plate), the ceaser salad was okay, and the fish and chips were very oily (you could see the oil on the plate). The desserts were also average. The food left us feeling slightly uncomfortable and heavy in the stomach so much so that we skipped dinner that night. The overall ambience was okay and we were surrounded by a lot of old people, possibly local. Looking at the previous reviews maybe they were having a busy day but not sure it was for us.

We were a party of ten meeting for a simple afternoon tea and were lucky enough to be put into the small dining room, so had the room to ourselves - lovely heavy linen tablecloths and super starched large napkins, with fresh flowers on the table and a centrepiece of elaborate candelabra, with tapered candles alight. Service was friendly and efficient, we could choose between tea (large pot) or coffee (cafetière) and then warmed scones (a selection of fruit and plain) were brought out on tiered cake stands, together with individual pots of strawberry jam and clotted cream and servings of butter - just soft enough to spread easily. There were a couple of scones each, which might sound rather a modest tea but they were home made and of a good size and we were eating early afternoon, so this was just plenty. The table was huge, lots of stretching necessary to reach everything, but it did mean that we could all sit around the same table with plenty of space. We were not made to feel hurried in any way and spent a little less than two hours chatting and eating, with teapot and cafetière being replenished as required. The surroundings are charming and the hotel was quite quiet when we were there, perhaps Sunday lunch customers had all left by the time we arrived. Plenty of parking either in front of the building or in the car park to the side. We paid £7.95 per head and throughly enjoyed our visit.

We went to Maesmawr Hall for a weekday lunch and enjoyed it. At £12.99 for two courses it was very good value and the food was tasty and well presented. We both chose the roast dinner, it was good and the portions were generous. We had fruit crumble for pudding which was also good. The staff were lovely, welcoming and friendly. The only thing that was disappointing was the coffee. I ordered a cappuccino after the meal. I don’t know what is wrong with their coffee maker but it was totally tasteless, just tasted of milk and water. Maesmawr Hall need to up their coffee making skills!

Had pre-booked an evening meal for 6. Service was great and we enjoyed a pre-meal drink in the lounge. We sat at a circular table and chose from the menu. Favourites amongst the group were the Lamb Wellington which was beautiful cooked with a mint gravy to accompany. One of the unexpected highlights was the wine selection when we managed to sample a few bottles including a wonderful Rioja Crianza at about £21 per bottle. All in all a great evening and will not hesitate to return.

staff very friendly and helpful ,food such a let down ! the scallop starter was minute , the French onion soup although very tasty was difficult to eat with a spoon as the sliced onions in it were so large , it was a little like trying to eat large spaghetti hoops with a spoon, very messy, ended up leaving most of the onions in the bottom of the dish, had the soup been blended or the onions diced im sure it would have been lovely.all three of us ordered duck priced at 19.95 we could not believe our eyes when it came the portion was so small , three tiny bits of duck sat on a grey risotto with a fancy drizzle of balsamic,it was served with very boring vegtables .although still very hungry I refused to order cheese and bicuits for I think 7.75 or 7.95 as I felt the two first courses had such poor qaulity and bad value . I like maesmawr as a venue and do want them to do well but shall not be returning until things improve greatly .

Atmosphere. lovely old building, Service: attentiveFood: Pretentious menu.Unpretentious food. Portions disappointingly small. Seered Scallops appeared to have been boiled and the green asparagus served with them was a slice of asparagus cut lengthwise from a spear. Main courses were all very tasty. Desserts again exceedingly small portions for the price asked, but delicious. Table water tasted excessively of chlorine.Total Price for a meal for four, including coffee and a minimum of alcoholic beverages in excess of 150 Pounds.(The soap in the ladies toilets smelled heavenly! We had were a group of mixed ages visiting for a Sunday lunch. The front of house staff were courteous and helpful. The setting up a long drive with gardens is great. The menu was appetizing with almost everything available. The food itself - positives were - meat nicely cooked, plenty of veg. Cheesecake very light and tasty. Vegetarian option was OK. Wine selection good. Warm rolls at start.Negatives - fish was small fillet, not that well cooked, pan fried to me should have nice crispy skin not sloppy and to be removed. Broccoli - I like it just cooked, but this was too briefly cooked even for me.I was told the goats cheese was quite bland and didn't really taste of goats cheese! The dessert portions were very small.Overall the Sunday lunch is quite expensive in my view hence my review is accounting for the price and expectations which are high at that level.

After reading a number of good reviews about Maesmawr Hall, I decided to take my wife there for lunch on our 10th wedding anniversary. As it was mid-week, I didn’t see any need to book. The initial reaction was positive, the guy behind the bar and also our waiter was very pleasant and accommodating, sadly the food wasn't.We ordered scallops with an asparagus puree to start. The scallops did not appear to be pan fried and looked grey. The puree was a splash on the plate, accompanied with a crumb that did not enhance the dish. After we had finished eating it, we were served with some half heated baguette type rolls, which looked anaemic. My dish was Short Rib of Beef (on the menu for £19.95), which as the chef described in person, was braised and falling off the bone - unfortunately it had not been cooked long enough and had to be torn off the bone. This was eventually returned to the kitchen as inedible. My wife chose Monkfish, which the chef was not able to produce as per the menu, but she was quite happy to try his suggestion. However the Monkfish was poached (not pan fried) with a pesto dressing and onion sauce (a very strange combination), and didn’t work. The original recipe also included a chilly crab fish cake, which seemed even more bizarre! The dining experience did not meet our expectations, especially the prices charged. Although we were given a discount, the standard of food was very poor.. We live in the area, and will not be venturing to Maesmawr again.Sadly an unenjoyable anniversary.

Beautiful setting in lovely gardens, you can eat outside in summer. The building itself is a superb example of 17th century architecture, fantastic fireplace in the bar. The restaurant is fairly expensive but the bar meals are reasonably priced. Service is excellent and the food is delicious. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Rooms are available not the cheapest around but reasonable for the standard of accommodation. Sitting outside can be a problem in the evening as there are a lot of midges but it is still very nice. I booked an evening meal for four on a sunday at 7.30. First we were disappointed with the menu as we thought we would be getting the main menu which was described on the maesmawr website. I ordered the chicken pate with toast, i had two bites of the pate, the pate was very dry and crumbly, not soft and smooth as it should be, the toast was two slices of french bread which had hard crust and cold in the center as if it had been in the freezer and microwaved to defrost. Main meal was fine i had the pan fried sea bass i would have liked the skin to be crispy if it was pan fried. For pudding i has sticky toffee pudding i had to leave some as it was too hard to eat or even cut, over all the food was disappointing it didn't seem fresh at all, Also when i booked i said one of the members of our group does not eat starch which they said they would make a note on the booking. When it came to my sons meal he could only have one of the veg served, along with only one choice of starter and pud. sorry would not book to go there again.

Called in for breakfast . I have visited before and found it quite nice although some of the staff can be a little curt. This time i was met with a miserable man with glasses , bellowing out orders. He handed me my order and proceeded with a very backward stereotype, a racial "joke". I don't expect to be racially abused when i am spending my hard earned money in your cafe. After his bigoted quip, he scurried off very quickly. I am glad he did as it was likely he d have had his glasses smacked off his head. Cheeky boy trying to belittle people when he's serving coffees for a living. I wont be back near the establishment as I don't support bigots.
