Booked table, but was a little late due to the massages in the spa being delayed. However, the spa did call them to let them know we would be running late & this was not a problem. We sat in the lovely sunny patio & enjoyed our lovely food with copious amounts of tea. Great service, atmosphere & food.

Took my mum for Sunday lunch, bizarrely we both had the same - smoked trout & salmon bruchetta - awesome. Mushroom risotto with veg - awesome. Eton mess - awesome!!! Mum was very happy & felt spoilt. I also treated her to afternoon tea previously - again - awesome. So many cakes we had to have doggy bags!

We've stayed at Knights Hill Hotel several times, and have always enjoyed our evening meal in the Garden Restaurant. But this time there were problems, on both nights when we ate here with friends. On the first night we sent two dishes back - a chorizo starter which was tough and inedible, and a lamb main which was too rare to eat, but also tough and gristly. Apparently other people sent the lamb back, and the restaurant supervisor apologised and admitted it was not up to standard (but surely the chef should have noticed). On the second night the restaurant staff did not have our names on their printout, nor those of the couple who followed us. However, we were seated without delay. But the meal was very slow, possibly due to a large coach party arriving and being served with their set meal. The serving staff appeared disorganised and incompetent, and all we could hear were the staff continually apologising to other customers. We entered the restaurant at 6.30 and left at 8.30, having only managed a starter and a main. We decided not to have dessert or coffee as we did not want to sit there for another hour waiting for our orders. Not a relaxing experience! I spoke to the restaurant manager, and she agreed that our experience fell short of the standards expected. We were given a significant reduction on our hotel bill, but we would have preferred to enjoy our evening meals.

This restaurant is trying but it is a hotel restaurant so has its limitations. The menu options are good, not a silly amount of options available but everyone is catered for. The food quality is fine but not fantastic, service is a little hit and miss. Product knowledge not the best and second round of drinks not offered. This wasn’t a bad experience though and if weren’t so much of a snob I would of loved it.

We ate at Garden Brasserie on the final night of our holiday in Norfolk. The restaurant is at the back of the Knights Hill hotel in a small section with views on to the garden. The decor is a little bit dated however it does feel like quite a traditional restaurant so in some ways suits its character. We were shown to our table by attentive staff who looked after us well during our meal. We were offered bread once we had ordered which was a nice touch, the number of restaurants that offer complimentary nibbles or bread is sadly very few and far between now. To start I had the mussels which were lovely, huge juicy mussels in a pot of rich white wine and garlic sauce. The mussels were a little bit gritty however the flavours were excellent and it wasn't enough to put me off. For my main course I had the sea bass which was cooked perfectly, melt in the mouth fish with crispy skin and plenty of seasoning. This was served with some lovely tenderstem broccoli, pureed butternut squash and fondant potato, all of which were excellent and made the dish actually quite a hearty meal. For desert we shared the chocolate brownie which was melt in the mouth and gorgeously chocolatey. The decor could do with an overhaul in Garden Brasserie but the food and service are excellent and more than make up for it. A lovely meal to end our holiday with.

As other reviewers have noted, the décor is a little bland and old fashioned, but we ate here for the two nights that we were staying in the hotel and had an enjoyable meal on both nights. It gets very busy, so early booking is essential. Unfortunately the booking made on the first night at Reception was not transmitted to the restaurant but they managed to accommodate us slightly later so we had a drink at the bar first. The staff and very helpful and approachable. We mixed-and-matched between the a la carte menu and the chef's specials. I had the fishcakes to start on the first night, followed by venison, and then we had a sharing platter on the second, followed by lamb. The portion sizes are generous and we only had room for a light desert afterwards. There is a good wine list and we had an excellent rioja on the first night and a pinot noir on the second and many of the wines are available by the glass.

The decor in this restaurant is straight out of the 1990s which didn't fill me with hope for the quality of the food, but I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent and the service efficient and friendly. My only criticism is that some of the descriptions on the menu weren't entirely accurate - for instance, the cheeseboard didn't come wit the promised chutney. But overall, highly recommended.

Called in for a quick lunch. The carvery was very busy so went into the bar at the staff's advice. Found the entire area to be quite dark with hardly any natural light and limited artificial light. Ordered from the bar menu by attending the bar and paid. Price quite normal for such a chain. The dishes came within 15 minutes and were hot and as expected. I would not rush back due mainly to the bar atmosphere but it is OK for a quick lunch.

We took our daughter who was visiting here for dinner, We hadn't been for a couple of years and found it just as comfortable as we remembered. An unusual balmy night meant we could sit outside on the patio for pre-dinner drinks and coffee afterwards. My daughter and I both chose the prawns with hot chilli sauce and Asian slaw to start. We had chosen well. However, my husband's duck confit was not confitted. It was not the proper red colour and just like a normal roast duck leg. His Red Poll fillet steak was perfectly cooked, my lamb cooked two ways dish was just right and my daughter's vegetarian meal came up to expectations. They managed to find two different Spanish red wines that, strangely enough, were not on the wine list but very drinkable. Service was efficient, professional and friendly. The young Indian waiter and Victoria, our waitress, could not have been better.

The restaurant is in an easy location on the roundabout to either Kings lynn, Cromer or Hunstanton. The ambience of the restaurant is good, and the service friendly and helpful with quick service unfortunately the food quality didn't match the expectations, the carvery vegetables were tasteless, apart from the red cabbage that was very heavily spiced with cinnamon making it overpowering. The other veg were watery. The meats were nice but not enough to carry the whole meal, overall disappointing experience.

The food is as you would expect for a cheap eat restaurant / pub. Quite often you can get 50% off vouchers when you spend over £30 on food. It's very basic pub grub and a lot of it is microwaved. Portion sizes are good though and I'd recommend for those on a budget. The pub itself is cosy and I enjoy having a drink in here.

We recently ate in the bar area of the Knights Hill Hotel, finding ourselves in the area and with some time to kill before an evening engagement. Let's be clear, this is a review of the bar food, not the restaurant area. The Knight's Hill is accessible, family friendly and stocks a good range of both international and more local beers. The menu is much as you would expect of a bar that does food - fish and chips, pie, ham, egg and chips, etc. Our meals came promptly and portions were of a good size. The food was tasty without being in any way spectacular. Reasonably priced, pleasant and does the job.

We regularly have Sunday lunch here, and it's good value at £18.50 for 2 courses or £21.50 for 3 courses, including tea or coffee. A good choice of 5 starters, 5 main courses and 5 desserts or cheese and biscuits, the food quality is very good. Roast beef or roast pork are the regulars, and you will enjoy several thick slices of freshly carved meat plus a good portion and variety of vegetables and roast potatoes. My only complaint would be that the dishes the roast potatoes and vegetables are served in are so hot they can't be touched, yet the dinner plates are cold to luke warm at best. The restaurant has always been pleasantly furnished (clean if somewhat dated) with plenty of space between tables and lovely white linen tablecloths. HOWEVER, on our most recent visit we noticed the tables are now without tablecloths, and several extra tables have been squashed in. Many of the regulars are quite elderly, and there was nearly a rebellion on their hands. The staff said it's their attempt at modernising the restaurant, and soon the carpets will disappear to be replaced by hard flooring. I know this is the way of modern restaurants, but in rural Norfolk with the average age of their Sunday diners probably 75-80 they need to be careful not to alienate their customer base. As several of their regulars told the manager "We expect things like carpets and tablecloths in a restaurant - if we wanted to eat in a cafe we'd go to a cafe!"I sincerely hope that in their efforts to "modernise" the restaurant they don't spoil it for the vast majority of their loyal customers!

Myself and 2 friends prebooked afternoon tea for a nice treat, on arrival everything seemed ok, we ordered coffee for 3 and the afternoon tea, when our coffee arrived we were given 2 small coffee pots and my cup had what looked like green herbs stuck to the side, I commented and said this cups dirty the waiter who had a dirty wastecoat on just looked and me and walked away, didn't offer to even get me a clean one, 1st let down. The afternoon tea was then brought out, looked nice the cakes on the top were for 2 people not 3 so I went and asked for more clearly defrosted by some sort of heat dried up and cream had gone yellow, which where brought and by the same waiter we asked for more coffee, this was clearly a massive inconvenience of his time, the scones looked nice shame they were rock hard and I mean solid, we asked for them to be changed and said these have been in the microwave too long, we were told bluntly that they are made fresh on site every day we looked forward to the next ones, oh dear these were boiling hot, and then rock hard again, too long in the microwave again, we asked to see the manager the duty one came out, very apologetic and said these scones were Monday's delivery (so not made on site then) he would get us fresh ones, which he did and they were ok and had not been microwaved to try and soften up stale scones. I can honestly say this was the worst afternoon tea I have ever eaten and £12.50 per head I would choose wisely there's many more places to have a nice afternoon tea anything would be so much better than there. I won't be returning and would not recommend it at all.

Decided to celebrate a Birthday meal at Knights Hill restaurant for my sister. However we were certainly disappointed! Having ordered the carvery, vegetarian burger and cheese panini. We were served with 2 very (hard to bite) crispy yorkshire puddings which were hollow inside, and some soggy vegetables; the vegetarian meal was not very hot and the bap just crumbled to pieces; the panini (which I thought would be toasted) was just warm. Such a disappointment! When we left there was nobody in sight to complain to. Will not go there again!!!!!

Having spend the first week of December at Knights Hill I once again have nothing but good things to say. I dined in the restaurant on a daily basis and enjoyed a consistently excellent experience each time. The atmosphere relaxing, the staff friendly, welcoming, helpful, and professional. Thanks again to Vicky and Harriet (and the rest of the team) - it makes all the difference to be greeted like a valued individual, not just another customer. . . especially when I am on the road for 100 or more nights each year.As I have said in my earlier review, the menu in the Garden Restaurant is varied and makes the most of seasonal and locally sourced produce, the food is consistently excellent, and the service faultless - perfect but not pretentious; friendly but professional. My only regret is that I am not in the area more often else I would stay more frequently; looking forward to my next visit!

Room dated.Menu limited and overpriced. We ordered olives- they were palatable, but clearly from a jar. The duck special was already sold out. For main I had the mushroom polenta cakes. My girlfriend had the sea bass. We also ordered chips. We waited half an hour for the food to arrive. My main was very bland and lacking mushroom - the main ingredient. The sea bass had no seasoning appeared to have been microwaved, so the skin was soggy. The chips never arrived.Overall, it was incredibly overpriced considering the service and quality of food. I spend well over 100 nights each year in hotels and can genuinely say that I feel fortunate to have spent several weeks in this excellent hotel - and always look forward to my next stay with anticipation. The rooms are clean and huge, the atmosphere relaxing, and the staff (reception, restaurant, housekeeping or anywhere in between) friendly, welcoming, helpful, and professional. I admit to have not spent time in the spa or other 'wellbeing' facilities - the allure of fine food and wine has always got the better of me. Whether you want an excellent pint of bitter and good hearty pub food, or a 'fine dining' experience this hotel had it all. The Farmers Arms - a short stumble from the hotel - is always a welcome watering hole; the hotel restaurant a sensation. I eat on average 3 times each week and rate this restaurant very highly. The menu is varied and makes the most of seasonal and locally sourced produce, the food is consistently excellent, and the service faultless - perfect but not pretentious; friendly but professional. I am mindful that I am missing loads of names off - and that feels like a disservice to everyone else who works here that I am not naming - but thanks to Vicky, Harriet, Betty and Cat; you are stars and make the strange existence of a lone business traveller feel less isolated and make coming back here feel like coming home.

The Hotel itself is first class. Cannot fault in any way the hotel, our ground floor garden bedroom, and the reception staff. The one night we stayed, we dined in and used the A la Carte Menu. First and foremost, we had no idea of who was responsible for the table we were sitting at, as there were appeared to be three or was it four persons floating about with little sense of direction. After ten minutes at the table, we had to ask for bread rolls and water. The prawn cocktail was an absolute nightmare for my husband, as it was served with no small fork and spoon and he had to use a standard knife and fork (no staff within the vicinity). Attempting to hide under the prawns there was an enormous amount of lettuce - two large leaves - not shredded. My husband ordered the rib eye steak, however had two small unidentified lumps of steak which couldn't be faulted, however this was not the steak ordered. Once again enormous lettuce leaves together with half a tomato placed on his plate. I would say that we have had much better service and quality of food at other Great Western Hotels and we were very disappointed. We asked for the bill, signed it off against our room and then as we left the actual restaurant we were presented again with a bill. I'm not saying a word. However, we did have breakfast to look forward to and they couldn't get that wrong - could they? Well, we arrived in the Garden Restaurant at 8.30 a.m, for breakfast confident that they finished serving at 9.30 a.m. as per hotel information pack. We ordered tea upon our arrival at our breakfast table, the tea was served and then realised there was no milk available. The waitress picked up half a jug of milk from a previous used table and then proceeded to get another jug of milk. ?????? The hot buffet was in fact a luke warm buffet. The bacon was cold, the baked beans were dried up and a horrible sight to behold. At the time there was one fried egg that looked well past its best. I didn't bother having anything from the hot buffet other than some bacon. My husband had a selection - bacon, sausage, mushrooms and half a tomato. All okay but LUKE WARM. He couldn't face the one fried egg on display or the baked beans. Enough said!! The toast machine was a nightmare. You put the sliced bread onto the revolving wire within the machine and it came out at the other end, warm but not toasted. So you put it through again. This time it comes out black and well done. After a great deal of perseverance I ended up with two slices of toast that I could eat. On my breakfast table there were two small pats of pre-packed butter and two small jams. Rather parsimonious I thought. Yes, there were jams elsewhere (by the toaster), but no butter. In fact, I rather gave up on the breakfast, knowing that we could eat elsewhere later on that morning. Oh by the way, at 9.10 a.m., the hot buffet had been totally cleared away and the staff were also closing down other areas of food. So what happened to the 9.30 a.m finish. As regards the serving staff, who I didn't want to disturb un-necessarily as they were so busy clearing tables, relaying tables, carrying out stock checks? etc., with eye contact impossible - all I can say is that I was very, very disappointed. We will be back in the area again later on in the year, and hopefully staying at the same hotel. This time though, we will eat out at night, and take breakfast at 7.00 a.m. in the morning - which hopefully should be fresh and hot.

the service and ability to deal with questions about ingredients due to allergies was great. There was a variety of options and I chose the goats cheese as a starter, served with beet root purée, walnuts, salad and some crispy bread thins. The mix of the cheese, walnuts and beetroot was good, providing texture, flavour and colour and the salad and purée provided a refreshing contrast to the cheese. The portion size was ample and this was accompanied by small bread rolls in which olives were embedded, so tasty and fresh.. This was followed by sea bass accompanied with celeriac, and olive tapenade, a delightful contrast again and this went exceptionally well with the side portion of vegetables of red cabbage, broccoli and carrot and sweet potato mash. Great tasting food, at a reasonable cost, although with few guests in the restaurant and only one section of the restaurant in use, due to preparations for breakfast, it did feel like we were sat very close to other people..

I was staying at the Best Western for a couple of nights and ordered room service off of the Garden Restaurant menu. Therefore, I cannot comment on ambiance or service, just on the quality of the food.Starters: 1) Goats Cheese Panna Cotta (5.5/10)- Enormous disappointment. It simply doesn't work. The gelatine texture of the panna cotta does not work with the rye bed strips. 2) Pork and Ham Rilettes (7/10)- Traditional and tasty, but quite basic. Was a little dry. Mains:1) Pork Belly (8/10)- Worked beautifully with the black pudding and ham hock. The score would have been higher- however the spring cabbage was uncooked, hard and came in massive leaves. It should have been cut at least. 2) Fillet of Beef (8.5/10)- Very tasty combinations. Beef could have been of better quality- lack of real texture or taste. A bit over cooked when I had requested medium rare. Overall, it was solid 4* food. It's a little bit on the expensive side for what you get. Value is 6.5/10.

We have visited this tea room a couple of times. The setting is beautiful a quintessential English country cottage come shabby chic decor .Weather permitting the garden area is lovely to sit out in .The negatives are ......ordinary cheap supermarket budget sliced white bread served with the ploughmans .It would be nice to have had bakery bread or a rustic roll even a small baguette .The bread made an afternoon treat into an ordinary cheese a picked onion and salad bite to eat ..I won't have it again .The cakes look tantalising but are rather dry with an over baked taste ..Tea served in pots was quite weak even after waiting an age for it to brew. on a positive the staff are friendly service was quick. To the owners it would be lovely to have tea served in china cups rather than heavy canteen style cups ,please think about what customers would like as a bread choice.Surely you wouldn't enjoy a cheap slice of white bread slapped on your ploughmans plate. Please spend a few pence more per tea bag and use a better quality tea.Its just the small things that really let this place down .Remember its the views of your customers that you should be listening to .....We loved the setting but will be searching for a tea shop that has a better quality ploughmans , nicely baked cake and a good cup of tea .Sorry to sound so negative but we felt we should leave a realistic review of our experiences there .

Stayed at hotel recently for weekend away with my wife. We ate in garden restaurant on Saturday evening. The restaurant is pleasant with nice views onto fields/gardens.Ambience in restaurant could be greatly improved by dimming the lights and maybe having candles on the tables.I am afraid the service was not to a high standard. Wine was poured without asking us to taste (was expensive bottle ordered from menu too), and staff just seemed as if they hadn't had sufficient training in serving tables. We didn't feel 'looked after'.However, the food was excellent. The Beef fillets my wife and I ordered for main courses was quite honestly the best I have ever had. Also the vegetables were beautifully cooked and extremely tasty. This restaurant would be marked 5 star by me if the staff were just given a little extra training to bring the service to a higher level and the ambience in the restaurant was made a little more cosy by dimming the lights and adding candles.

We came home with a great selection of apples and pears from the orchard, some we had not heard of before, they are all the same price by weight so you just make your own selection into a bag. We will be batch-baking apple-crumble for the freezer. They also have a nice butchery selection and local cheese amongst other edible. Not so keen about Gurneys the fresh fish shop as they didn't seem to want the custom they shut up early. The Fish and chip shop had a gluten problem which I will review separately.
