Very nice place to eat and the food was of excellent quality but it is expensive for what it is offered. Only really for special occasions.

So beautiful place I’d love to come back. Their food is yummm too 😋

We visited on a Saturday and expected the cafe to be busy, but we’re pleasantly surprised when we were the only couple there! We only ordered 2 coffees and with 3 bar staff we expected the service to be quick, however it took approximately 15/20minutes for the coffees to arrive, which looked and tasted like an instant coffee! The bar staff spent the entire time we were there chatting to each other about that they were planning to wear that evening rather than taking any time to see to their customers. Lovely setting, but terrible service and terrible coffees! Won’t be returning unfortunately!

First time here with family and friends. Service was great. Servers were very attentive and had a great sense of humour . Food and drinks menus were quite varied , and perfect for a relaxed evening . Nice setting and top notch toilet facilities.

Como estaba cerca de la hora de cierre, seleccionamos rápidamente nuestros cócteles y realizamos un pedido con nuestro servidor. Se lo dio al cantinero, que no estaba ocupado pero lo ignoró durante 15 minutos. Lo vimos dar vueltas, luego finalmente envió a alguien por hielo. Todavía no comenzó a mezclar nuestras bebidas. No queriendo esperar media hora sin una buena razón, cancelamos nuestro pedido y nos fuimos. Le envié un correo electrónico al gerente sobre nuestra experiencia, pero no recibí respuesta. Muy decepcionado por la falta de servicio al cliente.

I booked but no one on the desk so pointless. When to the bar after 15 looking at each other waiting for a waiter. No affect. Eventually grabbed someone off the floor. “Sorry I didn’t realize” I’m 6’4”? Oh look one Vegan starter and that’s it! No mains or desserts! Bye bye. This place not learning judging by the reviews.

Lovely place and great food thank you

My friend and I visited on a busy Saturday in December. When we arrived we were seated at a table which was reserved under a different name, however the waiter removed the name and we were told to sit there. When we ordered our food we were told it would be a longer than normal wait because they were busy. As I looked around there was only one table in the restaurant with food and this was at 1.45pm... so we waited for over an hour for two dishes. Eventually after an hour I asked where our food was and it came pretty quickly after that. I am not sure if they had forgotten. The food itself was ok- nothing special. I had the chicken which was served with broccoli and my friend a pasta dish which I don’t feel should have taken over an hour to prepare. I feel it was quite expensive for the quality of portions of food- effectively £14.50 for a chicken breast and some broccoli stems... chips were extra. The table next to us also complained as they had a long wait and we could over hear they were not happy with the quality of the food. Two friends then joined us for a drink and our male waiter was helpful getting them two chairs. When we went to pay the bill our waitress was extremely rude. We thought it might be quicker to go to the bar! When trying to explain where we were sitting she stated - “I can’t hear a word you are saying”. Then when we asked to pay the bill separately she said to her colleague “I have been here for a while”- I believe insinuating we were being a nuance. Eventually, we paid the bill and she did not ask how things had been. My friend and I were so taken aback by her rudeness I didn’t feel I could mention our long wait. As the setting is so beautiful it’s such a shame the staff and service do not match. I would not return to the garden for food it was over priced and not worth the exceptionally long wait.

Really nice bar to drink a coffee or have lunch. Service was really nice and the decoration is the best.

Its in a hotel but the quality and variety of the food at breakfast exceeded expectations! Id return even if I wasnt staying at the Kimpton. Light, airy, stylish and comfortable restaurant. Staff were amazing with the right combination of professionalism and friendliness while each adding their own personality. Ash was great!

Romantic place for two or even a peacful place for meetings

The vibe and atmosphere was great however the food and drinks were way overpriced for what you were receiving. Food wasn’t all that great would much rather go for a couple drinks than a meal from here again. Dogs were also in the restaurant but didn’t feel right for the type of atmosphere and vibe the restaurant was. Staff were also so slow with coming with menu’s taking orders, and the card machine for paying the bill. Far better restaurants in Edinburgh I would much rather go to.

Very beautiful inner garden with pleasing atmosphere. But the food is just plain and little overpriced. I was expecting more from a stared hotel restaurant. More in taste and more in options, very few options to chose from. Good for a visit e.g. for coffee or a drink inbthe garden but I wouldn't come back for dinner a second time.

Loved this place, the decor is beautiful and delightful. Food, service and ambience all good. Would definitely recommend. It was my friends Birthday and the the staff were exceptional 10/10 will def be back!

The interior of the Garden is lovely however the quality of the food leaves much to be desired. I had the rigatoni pasta with butternut squash - it was basically boiled pasta with butternut squash added in. Was pretty bland and ordinary - the butternut squash was a bit on the hard side (not cooked long enough presumably) and the pasta dry. My passion-fruit gateaux was nice but don't think it's made in house.

Had lunch with group of 10 work colleagues . 2 of us entered by a Rose St entrance, I entered by main hotel door from Charlotte Square after passing it twice and 2 others had to text us as they couldn't find the entrance! So...this eatery called The Garden is actual inside a hotel called the Kimpton but this info is not published anywhere! It would be handy to know this when one is booking! Not a huge selection of meals on offer, very very basic. I paid over £12 for a 'large ' salad which was basically 4 bits of chopped up pear (brick hard) a few strands of prosciutto, couple of leaves, tiny drizzle of balsamic and a huge dollop of buffalo mozzarella cheese in the middle . It was filling thanks to the size of the cheese but pretty tasteless. Cocktail menu was better, I had a Bakewell Sour cocktail (which was yum) instead of a sweet and a lavender lemonade soft drink with my meal which was divine. My contribution to the whole meal including a tip was £27 but I don't really think it was worth it unfortunately. The staff were all lovely though.

The food was delicious! I had the cheddar and chutney sandwich, the bread was nicely grilled and tasty, and it included a small fresh salad. A friend had the fish and chips, the best he had had while in Scotland. Our server was a delightful young lady, and the environment felt like a garden. The restaurant was slightly difficult to find because the sign for it was covered by greenery. But Google maps knew just where it was.

A decent bar considering it's attached to the hotel but it was a little disappointing to see so many of the plants were plastic.

Such a disappointment. Wasn't apparent they have a chef. Would just about pass as pub grub...but paying restaurant prices. Unacceptable.

Hidden gem in the Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel

I took my friend for a twilight tea at the Garden. It was amazing, staff were so attentive, surroundings fantastic, food to die for. Everything was perfect.

Blissful Twilight Tea, a 3 course twist on afternoon tea in an oasis of calm in the hustle and bustle of the city! We indulged in savoury treats such as toasted sandwiches with cheese, ham and relish and salmon with black pepper crowdie, hummus with crudités, mozzarella and tomato salad, haggis fritters and polenta fries. These were followed by dundee cake with ginger ganache, chocolate orange sachertorte, coffee and caramelised walnut choux bun, passion fruit and tarragon macaron. Our food was served with a smile and the setting itself is beautiful. We sat for a very relaxed couple of hours. Always a favourite venue and somewhere we look forward to visiting. Thank you again.

All three courses were delicious! It was nice to feel like we were outside on such a beautiful summer's day!

One of my favourite Edinburgh cafes - a totally relaxing space.

I booked this restaurant as we were staying in the Kimpton hotel for a special birthday for a family member. When the two of us arrived, the staff had gone to the effort of blowing up balloons, putting some gem stones on the table and a birthday card was waiting. It was a nice touch and it went down really well.

We used the garden during the day to sit and relax with a drink and had a lovely breakfast after our overnight stay, very welcoming

We wanted to have afternoon tea in Edinburgh and this restaurant was a lovely place. Their twilight tea was delicious! They have great vegetarian options and it wasn't too expensive.

We visited recently during a spa day, and were quite excited to eat here as the menu looked nice.

Friendly service, repeatedly forgot about our table it seemed though, and the restaurant was just half full. It was a mistake to order pizzas, unfortunately they cannot be recommended. Nice atmosphere in the room.

Nice place, shame about the service. The Garden is an open plan lobby cafe/restaurant in the Kimpton Hotel. The place is actually really nice, I really like the environment which is quite pleasing. However the coffee is very poor and the service is bordering on non-existent. Could do better!

This may be a hidden gem in Edinburgh if they can improve their service and variety of meals on offer.

We had booked a table at the "garden" for Mothers Day but we were seated in the "corridor" instead. We had to sit there while guests walked by in their towelling robes heading to the pool, guests checking in and out with their cases. I recommend that when you book you request a table in the actual garden, this was our first visit and I didn't realise that they had tables out with the garden area. We were disappointed. The service was really slow and it was nearly an hour before we got our food. We sat with empty glasses for ages and were ready to ask for the bill before managing to get the attention of the staff. The staff were really nice, the food was great once it arrived, and the cocktails were lovely.

We ate here as part of a hotel deal. The restaurant has a nice vibe to it, literally like eating in an indoor garden. The menu was great, nothing too weird to chose from. We had snacks & starters, then burger & fish for hubby. Nicely presented, good & hot, really enjoyed the food.

We had both an evening meal and a lunch here. The evening meal started with a fresh mozarella, pear and avocado salad and was followed by a decent sirloin steak with triple cooked chips. I thought it was good at a reasonable price. Lunch wss battered haddock and triple cooked chips. Also tasty and adequate before the train journey home.

The restaurant is very pretty and the food was delicious. However the service is incredibly slow, we came for a nice lunch and were there until it turned dark. It wasn’t even busy. Would only recommend coming here if you have plenty of time to spare.

I love these gardens in all seasons, a jewel of the city.

I went for Twilight Tea with 3 friends at The Garden as something a bit different from dinner or afternoon tea & wasn’t disappointed. The food was delicious & really substantial amounts (no need for my prior concerns that we might be left hungry by not opting for dinner!). We had the best hummus I’ve tasted with crudités (they were happy to bring us some bread to use the rest of our generous portion of hummus), Welsh rarebit, tomato & basil salad and salmon & avacado toast - all outstanding. Our next course was served hot - I had the vegetarian option of veggie haggis fritters & polenta fries which were both tasty. The rest of the group had haggis fritters & a lamb harissa sausage roll. All really substantial portions. My old criticism is that the sausage roll didn’t specify it was lamb which would have changed the order of one of our group. The desserts sounded a little unusual but were also delicious.

Went there with group of 50+. It was pr booked but the staff was not prepert and the service was very bad.

Nice food, and well cooked ( other than hard poached eggs) - but very long queue - service a bit hit or miss

We came here for a hot drink while walking around the Princes Street area. It was hard to find at first but once we were in we had a lovely time! The decor is so beautiful, like nothing we've seen before in a cafe, the drinks were lovely and it was all so clean and inviting.

Whilst celebrating a wedding we were cut off for being to loud. However all of us were able to hear each other over the music. Go figure. Slow service as well. All in all not good. Hate to see how badly you would handle a weakened service

This restaurant is located inside the Principal on Charlotte Square.

A lovely peaceful oasis to get away from the busy city. The decor at the Garden is simply stunning and certainly instaworthy. The service was excellent: friendly and smiley staff members all round. The food here is tasty and reasonably priced, given the high-market area. We were surprised how quickly our food came (5 minutes after ordering). All of us enjoyed the food and drinks. Also dog friendly. Highly recommend.

Love this place! I have been here for drinks twice and for twilight tea! Such a lovely place and staff are very friendly and helpful. It has a lovely atmosphere and is great for chatting to friends as it’s never too loud. The decor is amazing and I want to steal all of ideas if I ever have a conservatory!

Lovely oasis in the centre of my hometown

What you think about your Garden experience may depend on when you come here... when busy service can be a bit lacking. The food is not bad, but gastro pub in concept perhaps, which is fine. During Edinburgh's Festival recently they opened it up into the corridor to the elevators leading to bedrooms and we had cocktails there... I would have been seriously grumpy if I'd been dining to the accompaniment of guests trundling by with suitcases. The cocktails are great. The room is light and a has pretty attractive decor. I'm just not sure that the owners have sorted what the Garden really about. It's not really a second restaurant for me. More like a great tea hall and cocktail bar, with food. What might have been the hotel coffee shop, plus, years ago. Some confusion too perhaps between the Garden and Baba, the rather superb restaurant in the same building.

A beautiful venue with the most amazing decor...think urban jungle oasis vibes. There is no place in Edinburgh like The Garden. It's the perfect place to have relaxing drinks or a light lunch with friends. The menu is small, which I personally like because too much choice overwhelms me. Although perhaps a little too limited. I would like to see a few more dishes added to each course. The service is varied. We've encountered some extremely charismatic individuals here. On the flip side, there are also several staff members who would be more suited to a non-client facing role. Overall, I would recommend The Garden. Also a huge thumbs up that this place is super dog friendly- one of the few "upmarket" places in Edinburgh which welcomes dogs.

Breakfast here was poor. The full Scottish was elderly and definitely not cooked to order. Which given the quality of a represented version was unforgivable. Good food deserves as much respect, in my book, as paying guests.

Beautiful setting, good food but service was a bit of a let down

A very relaxed atmosphere in light and airy surroundings. The choice from the menu is extensive. The service was quick and efficient and the food was excellent. First class house wine and very pleasant staff. You would have expected to pay more but bill was most acceptable. We will definitely be back.

Six of us came here for dinner and drinks on our final night in Edinburgh and, whilst the place looked lovely, we experienced truly terrible service. The place wasn’t very busy, but we were waiting for over 15 minutes without anyone coming to our table to take our order. We thought that this was because it wasn’t table service, so my friend went to inquire at the bar about placing our order. However, a staff member informed him “coming to the bar isn’t going to help.” We deemed this to be rude, abrasive and unacceptable customer service. So we left immediately - which is such a shame as the menu, decor and setting seemed nice. However, it was let down by a rude member of staff.
