I'll just say that the food was incredible and everything was typical of the area. We had dinner on the top floor and the waiter was 10. Highly recommended!!

Tried haggis here for the first time and it was a perfect experience. I'm not a fan of liver, but it didn't taste how I thought it would and wasn't a strong flavour at all. 10/10 Got the cauliflower cheese soup of the day too which was nice and simple. 7/10 Jazzy music, classy decor and knowledgeable fun and friendly staff who wear waistcoats. There's not a lot more I could ask for, I only wish I were a local.

Marvellous old Edinburgh City Centre pub at ground floor and ist floor levels. Fantastic decor. During the day it's more of a restaurant these days rather than set up for having a few pints. The ceiling is a fantastic piece of traditional decoration. Didn't have food on this occasion but the place was very busy with diners. Excellent standards of service by the staff.

Excellent experience. The restaurant is located on the upper floor of the venue and remains quiet, away from the hustle and bustle. The furnishings are particular and help create a nice atmosphere. The prices are affordable, the food was exquisite and the waiter's service excellent, I have never seen so much professionalism and friendliness. Super recommended

Beautiful historical pub with a wonderful old wooden bar with craftsmanship seldom seen nowadays. Friendly helpful staff and the food was great. I visited on a Wednesday afternoon when it was quite busy probably due to its location. Reminds me of how a traditional pub should look like, proper food, proper flames in the fireplace and great service.

Nice traditional pub. Good beer and atmosphere. Toilets are a bit "traditional" but goes with the territory.

Nice venue for drinks all around 6 pounds a pint , Some of the pints and in fact halves were not poured very caringly. The staff seem to deliberately make the lagers extra frothy to put a big head on them . Is that a local thing or a way of getting less beer in your pint?

Classy restaurant without the upperclass atmosphere or prices! Make a reservation before you go. When you walk in the door, you enter the bar and your senses are taken back to olden days when carpenters and artisans crafted unique pieces that held up through the test of time. The bar is stunning and well crafted! Go up the stairs at the back of the bar room to the restaurant. It's a bit smaller, yet cozy upstairs. There is a smaller version of the wooden bar there and it is equally beautiful! The thistle wallpaper is unique, but interesting. The staff is incredibly friendly and professional. They make you feel like your order is the best thing in the world. They also make recommendations if you get hung up on what to order. The food is spectacular! We ordered the steak and ale pie and the fish and chips. Both were on point and reasonably priced. They also kept our glasses full with beers and ales on tap. I highly recommend this restaurant!

A friend and I went for lunch. We sat upstairs, the food was nice and the staff were friendly.

For a quick beer at the bar or a more leisurely dinner in the restaurant upstairs, this is the place for you. There are cask ales, lagers and whiskeys. And the team knows their stuff because they actually get trained and therefore stay longer.

Good beer and nice atmospheric premises. But the food is below average. Fish and chips were ok but with boring overcooked peas, the burgers were dry with undercooked chicken and beef (we tried both) and boring without dressing. Great place for a beer, but you have to stay away from the food.

We stopped in before the dinner rush, so we managed to get a table without reservations. It does get packed at dinner and it is not a very large place so I do recommend making reservations for the dinner rush hours. We were seated and I got a cider on tap which was lovely. I ordered the vegetarian haggis with the whiskey sauce which is an additional 2. It was good. The decor is very upscale. A lovely little place.

Another recommendation from friends and host of our B&B. Warm welcome from staff waiting to help as we walked through the door. Ordered drinks and was also given big glass of water in nice crystal glass. We looked at the food being served snd decided to eat here too. I had soup of the day and hubby had haggis, Neeps and Tatties. All delicious. Wish I’d had the appetite to have had haggis but perhaps on next visit. Photos only of drinks and surrounding as we scoffed food too quickly!!

One of my favourite bars in Edinburgh. Great place to take someone you are showing round Edinburgh. Also great that there is no background music. Hopefully they will start stocking irn-bru again. Also maybe provide a bit more information about the local and Scottish food and drink that is being served. I do miss the Saltire that used to hang above the front door.

Excellent beer in this cosy bar on Edinburgh's famous Rose Street. Attractive wood panelled bar and a easy going atmosphere make a visit here a welcome one. Not been in the restaurant upstairs, but have heard good things about it. Would come here again.

The food here was delicious! Our server, Charlie, was the friendliest, cheeriest server I’ve ever had. The staff were so happy and it made our experience all the nicer. The booking was easy, and they accommodated my party of seven people. The haggis was good, and my Steak and Ale pie was delectable. The Monument burger was a hearty fill with well balanced elements, although the haggis wasn’t much of a key element. We had the Raspberry Crannachan and Sticky Toffee Pudding, both of which were divine. It gave the meal a good end note. Unfortunately, I was so excited and hungry that I forgot to take photos 😅 But Trust, it’s good.

It was a very busy Saturday night. The staff were great and the service was excellent given how busy they were. Our first night in the city and it was a good way to start the 5 days.

Absolutely fabulous food and wonderful service from Joseph and the rest of the staff. Don’t be afraid to try the sticky toffee pudding with one of the many whisky’s available as a dessert and the cranachan was also fabulous. To avoid disappointment book a table if you want to enjoy the quieter environment in the restaurant, but be prepared for the Scottish banter.

This started off being a good night. However it all changed as the barman decided to ask us to tone it down. There was a table full of women louder than us. I had the burger & it was disgusting. It tasted weird. They took it off the bill. Would I recommend this to anyone. The answer I'd definitely say no. Won't be back very disappointed with this visit

Cozy atmosphere on our last night in edinburgh. Charlie was our waitress and she was very friendly and attentive! Joseph was tending the bar and he really knew his whiskey and made a recommendation to my son-in-law who said it was the best he ever tasted. The food was deliciious!! A fun time!!!

The pub is gorgeous and well looked after. Very kind staff. We went for lunch and drank some really excellent Cask beers. The food and desserts were also delicious.

We had a decent meal at this Friendly, cosy pub/restaurant, but what was truly outstanding was the great hostess, Charlie. She made everyone feel welcome, and presided over several tables with gracious ease. I wouldn’t necessarily return for the food, which was fine but not memorable, but I would for the warm ambience!

Great pub for a drink or 3. Had to try the haggis, neeps and tatties dish since we had never had it before. Quite interesting yet also good. The wine was decent and good beer selection. The barteneders were great too!

Characteristic place in the center of Edinburgh. While we were relaxing over an excellent beer, I wanted to read the negative reviews regarding the place and I noticed that many of these concerned the service. Described as sometimes disinterested and sometimes unpleasant. We, however, met a very patient and friendly waitress at the counter and the waiter serving the table for whom no words are needed, because his photo is far too explanatory.

Nice place to have a beer and the food was very good: fresh products of good quality. We had a soup, a Greek salad, a Haggis and chips and everything was good. The waiter who served us was very kind and welcoming despite the large number of people in the room.

Our friends said they had dined upstairs and it was excellent. Really interesting bar with great, knowledgeable staff. Good range of drinks both alcoholic and otherwise. Handy tables and chairs outside. Strategically placed for the weary. Plan your day around it.

A "must" in Edinburgh. Unbeatable customer service, the waiters are wonderful. They have a lot of beer taps and the dishes they offer are cheap and in abundant quantities. The food is practically like the food at home, the same as always. Highly recommended the Haggis and the gammon steak.

Every time we go to Edinburgh we always call here in the hope of a table for food. The staff are all really friendly and the food is great and reasonably priced. You have the choice of sitting in the bar area at a table or upstairs in the restaurant, both have the same great service.

Typical Scottish place where you can enjoy an excellent pub dinner, with haggis, pies and soups and then let yourself be lulled by the vast selection of whiskies. Internal setup to admire and super friendly and professional staff

Definitely one of the best if not the best pubs in Edinburg. For me it is #1. Amazing bartenders, with stories to tell. Super helpful in choosing between the many options of whiskey and beer. Local and small production stuff too. Amazing atmosphere of proper old school pub. Great food. If you are choosing the pub for the night, look no further. Just hop in and get a drink.

We visited the Abbotsfird bar & restaurant yesterday 07/07/24 for lunch . I am unable to climb stairs and they welcomed us to sit downstairs and eat . They were so helpful , really kind and food was fantastic. Fully recommend this fabulous pub . Thank you to all staff

I hesitate to write a review for the upstairs restaurant, because I feel like it's one of the best kept secrets in Edinburgh. Downstairs is a cracking traditional pub with a handsome island bar; but upstairs is a real gem of a restaurant. They serve the same menu as the pub downstairs - fairly small, focussed on burgers, reasonably priced - but in a lovely little restaurant overlooking Rose Street. It has a lovely relaxed vibe, and has become the standard venue for a sisters' meet up over a leisurely lunch. We've been to Harvey Nics and even The Ivy - and we prefer the Abbotsford! The service is always friendly and excellent, and the pricing is unbelievable given the location and the historic building.

Always good food and drink here. A well run public house and restaurant serving classic bar food and a wide range of real ale and other beverages. If you're hoping to eat here in the evening, please ensure you book a table in advance, to avoid being disappointed.

Very friendly service Dogs welcome but unfortunately we weren't allowed to stay with our children, I assume it's because of the law. The waitress apologized several times I was able to go to the toilet for free, which I think is very nice. Great shop 👍😘

Great pub, me and my mum were looking for somewhere for lunch before the theatre and popped in here. Lunches didn't start til noon, so we ordered a drink and the barmaid asked if we wanted to start a tab if we were eating - perfect 😃 The pub was busy with a variety of groups of folk, many just in for a drink before moving on. We ordered lunch at noon, just a couple of stater dishes with a portion of fries and it was lovely. We had another drink after before paying and leaving. There is also a restaurant upstairs. Highly recommend and will definitely go back when in Edinburgh again 😃

Really great classic Scottish food and drinks, we went here twice and the service was excellent both times. The pub downstairs is perfect for a lunch in a cool atmosphere, the upstairs restaurant is very cozy as well.

Was searching for an upscale yet authentic Scottish pub experience, and we found it here. Pleasantly surprised to find vegetarian haggis, which was great. Neeps means turnips, and their mashed version was quite tasty. Fish and chips was a hot and tasty meal with generous portioning. Shandy was delicious and large. Regrettably, I was too full to try the sticky toffee pudding, which I’m sure would have been amazing. Prices were reasonable, and our server was friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend to any fellow travelers.
