I stayed at the Gantry for one night on works business. The hotel is a very modern hotel completed in March 2022. The hotel is ideally located literally on the doorstep of Stratford International train station and was just 6 min on the train I caught from St Pancras. I stayed in a twin room which was luxurious and spacious. Breakfast is full service and once seated, everything is brought to you without ever having to leave your seat. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

We decided to call in here on Sunday afternoon to try their Sunday Roasts. As it was, only I had the roast beef as my wife went for the roasted cod (perhaps a Sunday roast after all?). Service was good and my roast beef was plentiful and tender. It was served with no less than seven kinds of vegetables (carrots, peas, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, roasted onion, parsnip and, of course, roast potatoes). It also came with a large pot of gray and a huge Yorkshire pudding. I understand that the toast cod served with mushy pea sauce, potatoes and sweet mussels (and a side dish of fries) was excellent. The menu says 12.5% service charge will be added but it never is. So I added 12.5% anyway. Definitely worth a visit.

We were invited to the Gantry which is a family run restuarant for Sunday lunch by some old friends. The meal was excellent - the perfect Sunday lunch. The restaurant is on 2 levels. As you enter there is a full bar on one side surrounded by a few tables with the main dining areas along with the toilets downstairs. We ate in the conservatory which leads into the outside dining area. We all decided to skip starters and go straight for the Sunday roast options (The restaurant has a full a la carte menu if you dont want a roast dinner). The options were roast beef, roast chicken or roast lamb. 2 of us ordered the roast lamb which was a lamb shank, and the remainder orders the roast beef, 2 thick slices of roast beef served as ordered, 1 rare, and the rest medium and that is exactly how they were served. Although nobody on the table ordered the roast chicken we noticed from other tables that the chicken was served as a whole small roast chicken. The dishes included a large Yorkshire pudding and vegetables - cauliflower in a cheese sauce, peas, carrots, potoatoes and brocolli which were all served on the plate. The food was excellent and were very large portions so we were all glad we passed on the starters. A couple of the party had desserts,. I chose the sticky toffee pudding with white chocolate ice cream which was excellent and the perfect end to a large Sunday lunch. Although the restaurant was full the service could not be faulted, helpful, friendly and efficient and there were no long pauses from ordering to when the first course was served. This isn't fine dining but the Gantry offers excellent food at excellent prices and we thoroughly enjoyed eating there .

A local gem! There was a warm welcome from front of house, despite the fact that they were busy. Generous portions of roast beef, veg and a huge Yorkshire pudding! I really appreciated that they asked how I’d like my beef cooked and the fact that the gravy came in its own pot (too often my meal is drowned in gravy..!)

The food tasted fresh & portions were good. We all had a variety of food from burgers to muscles, vegetarian lentil burger, a vegan grilled tofu salad, with hand cooked fries, all very nice indeed. Five out of five for that, chef, you certainly did us proud. We were really lucky to come across the Gantry when looking for a last-minute place to eat on a Friday night. Probably quite lucky to get a table too. The people who work there are lovely, and really knowledgable about their produce. They kindly let us try three wines before deciding on a bottle, and were generally friendly throughout - not too formal but showing up with perfect timing. The food was a surprise - for a small family run restaurant, it was very high end. The quality of the ingredients, cooking, and presentation couldn't be faulted. We had Salmon gravlax (chefs special, with a perfectly balanced creamy wasabi sauce) and gnocchi salad (also amazing) to start. Then we had duck cassoulet which was rich and lovely (apparently, I didn't get a look in :)) and cod with a pistachio crust which was cooked to perfection and flaked away. The stand out with the cod was the side of cauliflower cheese... much fancier name for it but I can't remember it... it was incredible. We forced ourselves to have the homemade sticky toffee pudding hoping the quality of dessert would follow the rest of the meal; and really didn't regret it, it was perfect. If anyone needs me, I'll be in the Gantry eating three courses of sticky toffee pudding...

My partner and I love rich, tasty French food, but previously would have had to go further into Central London to get it. I was delighted to discover this wonderful place, whilst browsing for somewhere local for Sunday lunch. We loved the ambience of the place - lots of nooks and crannies and much bigger than it appeared, and the staff were absolutely lovely - it definitely had a family feel to it.We didn't bother going for the usual Sunday roasts, as we love French dishes, and what we had was absolutely superb. This consisted of shared baked Camembert for starts, which was done a bit differently from the norm and much better for it. For mains, my partner had duck Cassoulet which was very rich and tasty and the dauphinose potato, which was amazing. I had cod gratin, which was so much more than it sounds, and came with a delicious cauliflower side. It was a close call but apparently I "won". We were pretty stuffed but couldn't resist sharing a desert of chocolate fondant, which was yummy. It all exceeded our expectations and was very reasonably priced considering the quality. This will definitely become a regular haunt.

Was really looking forward to something special as my daughter lives within a stones throw from the restaurant and recommended it for dinner. Starters were absolutely fine but after waiting for about 45mins, the so called roast turkey dinner was cold, contained mushrooms which one of us was allergic to and usually NOT typical of a christmas turkey meal, stuffing that resembled SPAM and brussel sprouts which were close to collapsing when prodded as they were cooked to a mush. No explanation was given to this appalling food and we were blamed for not telling them about the allergy to mushrooms which wasn't even mentioned in the menu. No apology was forthcoming either but we got a "We've got a good reputation here" from the rude waitress. Completely ruined our evening.

Been meaning to try The Gantry since we moved to the area 2 years ago! It always looked packed from the street but turns out the ground floor is more for drinks and nibbles and the restaurant is hidden away downstairs overlooking a very cute garden. We booked a table for four on a Thursday night, upstairs was very busy, downstairs in the restaurant it was much quieter and made for a good atmosphere. The food was excellent. The waiter was attentive and friendly and the food was served a leisurely pace and we never felt rushed or pressured into leaving once we have finished our desserts. The only constructive criticism that I would give is that the portion of ice-cream served with the puddings was too small... We will definitely be back and I would go as far as to say that for the price range it was one of the all round best meals, service and setting included, that I have had in a long long time!

The food is good and interesting. I thought that the Sardinian Seafood Fregola was tasty. Moreover, it is family friendly.

I've eaten here three times. The first of which was Christmas Eve with my Dad; having just started a new job as a nurse for the first time ever I would not be with my Dad on Christmas Day. The Gantry gave us a delicious dinner - which did a lot to compensate for me not getting a home cooked Christmas dinner that year. We got stuck into the red wine list (perhaps not advisable before work the next day but it was the season to be merry!). Most recently, I have eaten there with friends and enjoyed the cosy, idyllic garden which makes you feel you're nestled in a country garden outside of London. The food has been excellent and the staff always attentive. My friend takes pudding very seriously, and will often ask many questions about how buttery/crumbly/chocolatey/moist/satisfying (...the list goes on) a pudding is but the staff willingly answered her with an attentive ear and friendly smile. We'll be back!

My husband and I went to have a drink in this bar not intending to eat, however we thought we would share some starters. We ordered calamari and chicken wings. The taste was delicious however the portions were poor, there was not enough for one person let alone two. If they were more generous with their portions then I would revisit.

Had impromptu lunch on a bank holiday. Cosy space and waiting staff friendly, but food was a disappointment. Starter of prawn spring rolls was nice, and the salmon ceviche was fine. However, mains of salmon and cod burger and clam fettucine weren't great. My fettucine had a bad odour and I just couldn't eat it. I left over 2/3 untouched and was most surprised that the waitress didn't ask if anything was wrong. Salmon and cod burger was passable, but the two fish together didn't work that well. Would not return.

Firstly, the staff here are wonderful, really friendly and accommodating. We were a party of 6 for a Saturday lunch. The pub wasn't very packed but the food did take some time to arrive, well over an hour, to the point where we asked for some bread to manage our hunger pangs!Friends who ordered the duck, beef burger and pork enjoyed their dishes. The cod dish however was slightly disappointing. The two of us who ordered the cod found the citrus sauce an odd combination, and not to our taste. The peas that accompanied the dish were shrivelled and rather sad looking! Our waitress was very sympathetic to our feedback and we kindly received a discount off the bill which was appreciated. The fries that came with the burger were just okay, fairly warm and limp, as were the sweet potato fries, which weren't really fries but soft chunks of sweet potato so not what we were expecting. The cafe gourmand dessert was hit and miss. The creme brûlée and sticky toffee pudding were fantastic, the chocolate mousse was topped with far too much salt for our palate and the rice pudding felt a little stodgy. I'd give The Gantry another go as it's a lovely place and the staff are lovely but I'd be a little cautious about the quality of some of dishes. Perhaps better than average but quite not 'Very good' on this visit.

I came to the Gantry after a recommendation of my brother. I usually do reviews for hotels or places, however I think this place deserve a comment, a very good one. This place looked like a normal place to eat, however the young lady who was our waitress started to make the difference. She was so kind, helpful, gave suggestions, in other words she went far and beyond. The ambiance is so quiet and relaxed, so you feel like having lunch at home on a Sunday. Then the last part was the food. I asked for a seafood and fish sample. It was delicious. My brother and sister in law are vegans and they had no problems finding something for them as well. They said their food was great too. Unfortunately I was flying back home a day later and did not have the chance to come back again. But next trip to London I will.

Utterly delightful and charming find. On the recommendation of our B&B owner, my companion and I and two other friends came here for dinner. We could not have asked for a better spot. We were in a glass window encased room by the rear garden area - it was a perfectly pleasant setting for a lovely dinner accompanied by wine and beer. I was a vegetarian and I was quite surprised by the very tasty and affordable fare. My companions tucked into their meat and fish dishes and were equally satisfied with their respective meals. I highly recommend this place for the food, drinks and atmosphere!

Tried this place a couple of times. There's nothing wrong per se, but it's just all a bit lack lustre. From the last time it's gone more towards burgers and away from dishes, this looked interesting. But the flavour combinations shout 1970s dinner party but it's not entirely worked. Starter of prawn & avocado spring roll looked worth a punt - individually all ok, together - not so muchSalmon & cod burger, similarly It might be to your taste, to me - I don't really get it

Have been here before and did not really enjoy it but we thought we would give it another try and once again I was disappointed. I had the burger (tasted better at other places) and my partner had the park ribs (not much for the price), service good and waiting staff are friendly but the prices they charge is to much for this area. Not sure I would go back.

I was impressed with my steak and chips for a tenner, their Tuesday meal deal. The portion of steak wasn't huge, but it was tender and unfatty, topped with delicious fried onions and served with very moreish chips. A bonus was being able to have my dog with me. Even though this establishment won't let you take your dog through the restaurant to the lovely back garden

Visited the Gantry on a Saturday night. Had booked as was told this place can get very busy and it was. Very nice welcome on arrival. The restaurant in down stairs and is a lot bigger then it looks from the street. Place very quaint nice colours with a relaxing atmosphere. Staff very friendly. Good wine list. The starters can be a little small for the prices . Had the duck for mains and was beautifully cooked and the creme brulee was amazing!! Good atmosphere, attentive staff and very good food would recommend..

Great place for food! Very friendly team and they also run a monthly cocktail competition where 2 members of the staff create their own cocktails (I liked the idea). The food is delicious (not cheap) and I liked that we were sitting in the conservatory. They change their menu often but I had the duck with pears and it was melting in my mouth!Would definitely recommend!

I brought the family here to celebrate my children's birthday and we had wonderful experience. The conservatory was perfect for our large party with children and our waiter was lovely. The food here is always excellent and the menu very interesting. They provided the children's meals as soon as we arrived, which is always helpful to keep them occupied. The best part was when the team put candles in to ice creams and sang happy birthday to the children who were chuffed to bits. Thank you, we'll be back soon.

We had a large table in the conservatory for my girlfriend's birthday, not a private room as there weren't enough of us but it felt secluded from the majority of the other diners. The staff were just impeccable; making us feel totally welcome and at ease and always on hand for advice or repeat orders! And the food here is excellent, probably the best in Brockley - certainly the best for this type of cuisine (French/European/British). This was my second visit and, having savoured the duck first time around, went for the beef fillet this time. It was unbelievable. Heartily recommended all round.

We've eaten here several times before - in fact, on every occasion we visit London - and it never fails to please. The staff are always very welcoming and attentive and the food excellent and good value for money. The vegetarian sharing platter is a must! Theres a small bar upstairs with a great imaginative selection of cocktails on offer. Although it's situation is a little way outside the capital, its only 10 mins from London bridge station on the overground, and then a 2 minute walk from brockley station. Give it a try and I'm sure you'll become a 'regular'.

We've been here a few times and each time have been impressed with well balanced flavoursome dishes, nice wine which is reasonably priced and interesting twists on classic French dishes. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and the staff are friendly and helpful. On our last visit I didn't manage my whole main and the manager kindly offered to wrap it up for me - above and beyond. Would recommend.

It's Christmas! And The Gantry is all decked out in Christmas glory and looks absolutely stunning. Well done to the staff for making the bar / restaurant look like a twinking venue of light. So here goes. For a starter, I had the souffle and it was crispy and light and exactly how a good souffle should be. I'm going to beg the management to keep the souffle on the menu. A souffle is for life - not just for Christmas! We then both ordered the Christmas turkey and the food was gorgeous. Tons of beautifully cooked turkey breast on a bed of bread sauce accompanied by all the trimmings. Unusually for us, we had to pause half way through and let it 'go down'.We waddled out of the restaurant a good two hours later and we were fit to burst but that didn't stop us having 'another' bottle of wine in the upstairs bar where cool music is played and the drinks served by even cooler staff.I love the Gantry. I love it too much to be honest because we're spending nearly all our weekends drinking and eating in there.x

I went there with friends on a Saturday night and it was good we had booked a table in advance. At first I was surprised by the size of the place as the main restaurant area is located downstairs in parlour like rooms, nicely decorated with books and some old furniture. Staff was very friendly and the athmosphere just really lovely! But you're not going to a restaurant for its athmosphere but for the food. We chose from the Christmas menue and ordered pheasant that was juicy and delicious. Also the French wine we ordered was a delight and there was simply nothing that we could have complained about (well, maybe the decaf Americano - don't try it...). From venue to staff, starter to wine, this was a very good choice for a decent price (and hey, we are in London...).

Myself and my family recently visited the Gantry for a catch up and meal, we were seated in the conservatory which was lovely and nicely decorated for Christmas... maybe too nicely decorated as a member of staff or who i believe may have been the manager repeatedly lent across our table to take pictures of the decorations around us, even asking us to not to move while they took the photos! I'm sure this didn't need to be done in the middle of our booking? At one point she even started taking pictures of us! we originally thought someone from our group had asked her to take a picture on their phone but after us all consulting afterwards that was not the case! if it is for promotional purposes or the website it would've been nice to be asked if we minded first! we ordered from the Christmas menu and i had 'turkey with all the trimmings' i have no idea what half 'the trimmings' were! we didn't have Yorkshire puddings or roast potatoes for start! there was a pile of white mush which we are still debating over whether it was celeriac mash or bread sauce (sounds odd i know but was so bland you had no idea!) I had one brussel sprout on my plate, two roast chestnuts a few chunks of sweet potato, some stuffing and a tonne of parsnips, between our group we had no idea what anything else was, it couldn't be determined by taste! No carrots, no broccoli, no cauliflower, no pigs in blankets, we assumed by the title it was a traditional style roast and were massively disappointed. The menu should be more specific as we all agreed we wouldn't have ordered the roast if we'd known what we'd end up with. The general staff were nice enough but I would never consider going back.

The service in this restaurant is excellent. The Bloody Marys were excellent. The warm green olive bread rolls with herb/chilli butter were excellent. The scallops gratin were excellent. The cheese selection was excellent. The steak and pommes dauphinoise was excellent. The side dish of green bean with garlic was excellent. The ravioli main course, with mushrooms and truffle oil, and a crispy egg, tasted great - and the egg was perfectly cooked - but six ravioli? For a main course? Costing £12.95? That's getting on for £2 per raviolo, allowing some cost for the egg. The steak dinner, despite being the small one, was much more substantial than the ravioli with its cheaper ingredients. I queried this with the waitress, who said she was Italian (and sounded Italian) and that in Italy you only get four ravioli, but in restaurants where they know her, she gets five. I told her, truthfully, that I'd had a full bowl of ravioli in a restaurant in Genoa - and (I didn't tell her, but this is also true) that was for a 'primo' course, where this was a 'secondo'. I have since checked with a woman I know who speaks Italian fluently and has visited several regions of Italy, and she also told me that ravioli is usually served by the bowlful unless it is particularly large. Which this wasn't. Of course Italian cooking varies enormously by region, and there may be a region where very small portions of ravioli are the norm. But if that's so, I want to know where it is, so I can avoid ever going there. Really unimpressed with this particular dish - though glad my companion had so much (small) steak, dauphinoise potatoes, and green beans, that she could give me a sizeable supplement. Overall: eat here, but don't order the ravioli unless they've revised the portion size.
