Went with a group of friends who eat here regularly and always rave about it. I was not disappointed. It was a Friday evening and the restaurant was packed, most diners appeared to be regulars, always a good sign. We ordered a variety of dishes which were all wonderfully tasty and full of flavour. Portions were generous sizes and priced very reasonably. Service was attentive and friendly. Will certainly return again very soon.

Best Indian meal we've ever had

This restaurant was above and beyond my expectations! Loved the restaurants aesthetic and atmosphere! I can truly say the food was authentic and very tasty. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be going back!

Always get a takeaway from here usually spend £60-£70 pound. Always on time foods lovely but placed an order this evening for £15 ordered it 7.40 still hasn’t arrived and it’s 8.40 told it would be 20 minutes last time I use this restaurant.

Ghandi the heaven of all curry restaurants! Delicious food and amazing staff!

I first went to this restaurant about 30 years ago and have been several times over the years. It may have been redecorated since my first visit but it is difficult to say. It is cosy and really suits a group of at least three having a good banter rather than a romantic dinner for two. The food and service are okay and the portion sizes are small but maybe that is a good thing. The prices are low at just under £9 for a biryani, thus it is exceptional value for money - deserving 3 stars. It is an average but reliable choice.

I ordered Tandoori Chicken, Grilled chicken, Saag and Dhaal... sadly the chicken was awful, tiny and burnt, the butter chicken was not butter chicken but made in milk (i am allergic to dairy) the saag was awful as it was leaves stuck together the roti was not roti but flat hardened naan and I have been severely ill since!

This restaurant was a little too crowded for us at the moment and the tables are quite close together. The staff were friendly and helpful and service was good. The food we ordered was all quite good and there were some unusual dishes.

This is hands down the best curry house in the area you can’t beat it! Strongly recommend the garlic chicken, sag aloo & korma but to be honest it’s all good. The staff are all so friendly. I tend to get takeaways from here but only because it is always rammed out in the restaurant because the food is unreal.

Some geezer tried speaking to me like boola shingrai ban ban. So i gave the geezer a a naught 1 2 combo and he was out like me after having a stella or two. After that sat down and had my jalfrazi, lovely grub.

Love this place, food is always fab, waiters are just lovely, always see someone you know locally in here, love, love, love it :)

My family has been coming here for the last 30 + years. The best curry house in the area, wouldn't go anywhere else. Don't let the dated interior deceive you, Gandhi is a proper authentic curry house. Excellent delivery service too.

This is by far the best Indian to eat in or take away. I have lived in this area for many years and have tried plenty on restaurants and takeaways. This beats them all. Totally outstanding

Go here often and the food is always very good. Staff are also very pleasant and nothing is too much. Best to book on a Friday and Saturday as it always gets busy.

I didn't go in there I was next door in the Seafarer, great fish and chips.

My wife and I who live in North Chingford have been visiting this restaurant for over 20 years and have never had a bad meal. The bottles of Cobra are always cold and the Tandoori Chicken, tandoori King Prawns and Chicken Madras are our favourites. The owner and his Staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. They will always try to give the customers want they want even if its not on the menu. Visiting is a MUST.

Gym night our fun Staff were terrific and couldn’t do enough for a bunch of old farts who have known each other for 50 years + Drinks flowed , Food was excellent and the singing was loud Had a blast

Just a few doors down from Jaipur which I had visited the night before. After a very disappointing meal there I thought I would give this one a go.The interior is lovely and it was very busy. The polar opposite of Jaipur.The service was good with friendly waiters.I went for the mixed grill which was ok. Not fantastic but better than next door but only just. Was looking for a bit more spice. Maybe they cater to the local area as the food is definitely tailored to the English palette I think I have been spoiled in Southall and Hounslow where the food is totally authentic.

I took a takeaway from Ghandi and the food tasted average. The takeaway main dishes are the size of a side dish. Proper disappointment

Very good food and good atmosphere. However, our evening visit was such that we were pounced on to order drinks as we were nicely seated. Then we became invisible until we had to ask for menus. After a 20 minute wait to give our order we had to go and get a waiter to take the order. By that time our invisible cloak was working really well. It was a busy evening but there were a large number of waiters pro rata. Unfortunately, they didn't seem to know what their role was. We felt very uncomfortable at having to keep asking for some service. We were wearing an invisible cloak.

I had been looking forward to this curry with the boys for over a month, heard good things and been told by friends its a great place only for it to be a let down.Service was great, can't complain about that in the slightest!Ordered our poppadoms and that's where it all began, they didn't taste great, a bit stale and i most look forward to mango chutney and onion salad but the onion salad was literally just onions, a bowl of onions. Starter was ok, I had tandoori prawns but i found them to be lukewarm.Now to the main, I love spice and i love the flavour of a tikka masala so I always ask in every Indian restaurant to make it vindaloo hot, the waiter said it wouldn't be nice and i explained how i do it in every place i eat this dish.Upon arrival it looked alright and then started to eat and it was flavourless and spiceless it had a funny texture to it but couldn't work out what it was and it wasn't the chicken becuase there was only 3 small bits in there!! Usually come out of an Indian restaurant unable to breath because I'm so full but here I left still hungry and not happy.It may have been an off night but I won't be returning here in a hurry.

Have quite a few Indian restaurants close to me - but I would still rather drive a couple of miles to go to the Gandhi. Prices are really good, quality is always good and you don't have to wait too long. I would say to people in South Woodford - forget all the "trendy" Indians we have in the area and come here - good price and they know how to do a good curry.

We used to live nearby for a few years and never went there, although had heard good things about it. Then one evening off the cuff, we gave it a try and have been regulars ever since. There are very few Indian restaurants that are pretty full all week, so I always make a point of booking. We are always well looked after with a very reasonable bill and excellent food. They've been there over 30 years, so they must have got it right and I believe the decor is the original, so it's like going back to the past although no flock wallpaper, but magnificent portions. Usually crowded with nice customers. Highly recommended. Just booked for tomorrow now.

The best vegetable Buryan and my husband still talking about his delicious lamb chops. A small cosy atmosphere. Very attentive service even on a busy night. Can't wait to come again. Don't expect "posh" de or.

Decided to go here last night before a round at top golf. I've got to say though the chicken korma was really nice and tasty, the waiter was very cool and nice. Service was good. It's not a 5 star as the recommended food dish was okay at best and their mix grill was okay, nothing to shout about. The garlic naan could've been bigger. We spent 47 for 3 people. 4 mains, 3 breads, extra rice and drinks.

If I stay in Chigwell, I always eat here. I've been loads of times and the food is excellent without being overly expensive. It's also not too spicy hot as standard, but they will adjust it as you like so it'll suit most people looking for a good quality, value for money curry.

I came here with some friends and my wife last Sunday night to eat proper Indian food, as I have been several times here and the quality of the food is always very high.

Step back to the authentic Indian restaurant we older people knew and loved. They have been there for over 30 years and are rammed most nights, so best to book in advance. Jewel in the crown in Chigwell. Wonderful food that takes a lot of beating. Tight surroundings due to size and attendance, good sized portions and atmosphere, you may need a doggy bag. PS. great cold the following day!

Have been eating Indian Food since 1970 and the Ghandi is the Beat Indian Food very very friendly surroundings and staff are excellent and as you may have guessed the food is excellent.

It was Monday night and fancied eating some Indian food. Having been multiple times here, we decided to come here, as we knew the food is always excellent. I normally order takeaway food here as well and have never had any complaint, food is as good as the one served in the restaurant.

Came here with some friends to celebrate a birthday. The food was fabulous , tasty and fresh and the service excellent. Staff were polite and helpful. The restaurant and take away service were both busy. Would definitely come here again if I was in the area.

Being going to the Gandhi on Monday nights as long as I can remember, very friendly staff good food that comes out piping hot and very reasonably priced. Keep up the good work and see you next Monday.

If you have a takeaway from the Gandhi be prepared it doesn’t come on time (3/4hr late) oand it’s lukewarm or cold. This is the 3rd time it seems lately the takeaway part has gone to pieces. The restaurant it’s self you can not fault its the takeaway part

I live locally and use this restaurant for both eat-in & take-away Service. They never fail to get it right. The food is lovely. So very tasty. And if it is being delivered to my home, the delivery driver is always very polite & smiley.

All I can see is double or even triple check any booking you make here... after my dad recently passing away I booked a birthday meal for my mum with all her family... only to arrive and ..... NO BOOKING.... I was so upset for my mum it ruined her birthday !!!!!!!

I have been coming to Ghandi for about 10 years now and think I've experienced one bad meal in that period. The chicken tikka masala is the best I've had - I can't bring myself to eat it from anywhere else! The tandoori chicken is also amazing.

Read some of the reviews saying it had gone down hill a bit. Visited last night and thought it was just as good as before. Met up with friends who are into their curries and they thought it was equally as good. And even with a few drinks,coffees and desserts came to under £70

This used to be my favourite restaurant in the world, yes really, in the world!! I obviously don't get out much. Anyway back to reality, The Gandhi used to be amazing, food was great, service was spot on and the atmosphere welcoming. In the past 12 months I've found that the food is slowly getting worse and worse and it's quickly losing its famous reputation as the best Indian in Woodford. Don't walk by without giving it a go however now days I prefer Jaipur a couple of doors down. Shame.

The first time I visited this place and won't be the last one. It is just three minutes away from my doorstep.I ordered for take-away some papadums, as always, and a tandoori chicken with boiled rice.Everything was packed very well alongside some vegetables. I must say the chicken was to die for and combined with the rice and vegetables was unbelievable, super tasty.The staff was very polite when I picked up the food.I am definitely coming back again!

My parents had been eating here for years and when I went with them for the first time I could see why! It was a very small restaurant but its nice and cosy. I found the staff to be very friendly and attentive and even offered us a free drink at the end of our meal. The food was unbelievable and Is probably the best indian I've ever had. It is not too overpriced and you get a lot in the portions, none of us could finish our meals. I'm very excited to go back and try again soon!

The food was good, but the service was beyond awful, walked in and was greeted by a rude man, who just pointed to a table, sat down it was quiet busy, got completely ignored, had to ask for menu, basically had to ask for everything, waited 50 mins for our food, had it not been getting so late we would of left. Such a shame as I really wanted it to be so much better, the staff looked so miserable, they were just rude abrupt and clearly forgot about us. The couple sitting next to us, even said out loud so we could all here, when his bill came, that he wasn't paying service as they were so bad. The 2 stars are just for the food I couldn't actually fault it.

Moved from Tower Hamlets in 2006 and once I discovered Gandhi, I didn't try another Indian. Great find. Very consistent dishes, friendly service. Restaurant itself, typical almost retro Indian restaurant. Great for takeway too.

Everything you've come to expect from an authentic Indian Restaurant. This is a small and cozy hidden gem in the heart of Chigwell. The food is spicy, fresh and tasty, the beer is ice cold and the staff are a joy. This is also my go to Indian for a cheeky mid week takeaway. Well done guys.

I had heard positive things about this restaurant so booked a table for 7.30pm tonight. We had trouble parking outside so had to drive a bit further away so ended up arriving at the restaurant at 7.34pm. We were then told our table had been given away - we were 4 minutes late! The staff were extremely rude about it - perhaps if they'd've apologised and been a bit more polite we wouldn't have minded but this was not the case. Never have I ever been to a restaurant where a table has been given away after less than 5 minutes! Don't go here if you want a place with good service!

Visits before have always been a positive experience.Tonight the service was slow & awkward Food to an eternity to arrive.Chicken tikka masala was watery and not as rich as possible and contained 4 bits of chicken Disappointing not to be offered a dessert or any drinks either

Very poor customer service!!! Wanting to book a table for 7 then the only availability they have was 6 or 6.30. We get there for 6.30 then a little while later they letting us we should have ordered and already eaten are starters!!! When all are guested wasn't even there. Very rude. Then telling us there was another table booked after us at 8, but we are 12 people that don't want to be rushed with are drinks and dinner. So we ended up leaving, don't exactly to go out for dinner and get treated like that!!!

Been there a few times. Good selection of dishes, but I usually have the Jalfrezi - either chicken or more often lamb. Highly recommend.

What did I do wrong? 5 curries ordered, 4 excellent, 1 (mine) could only be described as dreadful! Chicken madras? A thin, watery soup-like offering was presented with a few largeish and lonely chunks of chicken swimming about within. Isn't madras supposed to pack a bit of a punch? Not this supine example. My friend's dansak had much more muscle to it, not to mention flavour.To be fair, when I mentioned my disappointment, there was a very sympathetic response and an alternative curry was offered without quible by staff who were attentive and friendly.As for the environment, 'enigmatic' might best describe it. We dined amongst mock tudor beams and the atmosphere was infused with an infuriating auditory backdrop of a short indian melody on an mind-numbingly infinite loop. As if that wasn't enough and adding insult to injury, the 'music' stuttered, faltered and fumbled along too.In summary: worth a punt but avoid the madras!

Went with a group of friends who had booked a table. This was necessary as the restaurant is very popular in the evenings. The food was authentic. Served quickly and the patrons were friendly and keen to please.

We shared our evening meals between here and Jaipur ( a few doors up) to escape our dire hotel food and this place was great, no complaints. Jaipur I think just pips it for the visits we made but you won't be disappointed with either I'm sure

The Ghandi is my local (10 minute walk) but have never eaten in there as we always order a takeaway because of proximity. Been using it for 20 years and never had a bad curry. Good food, good prices and an excellent delivery service.
