Great food. The staff are very friendly could not complain at all the was 15 of us and they made us very welcome. Definitely recommend x

We visited 2nd Feb. A very pleasant young chap showed us to our table 'round the corner' in a big snug-type area. I'd swear it wasn't there last time. I had the chicken, ham & leek pie which was in all honesty, glorious. I struggled to eat it as there was a lot (with fresh veg). My Wife had the chilli which was just spicy enough and came with home-made tortilla. There's a wide choice at the bar; I had scrumpy while my Wife had wine. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and the price? Reasonable. I left the car in the large car park and got an Uber - scrumpy does that! The pub has a huge outdoor marquee for smokers (yuk) and in Summer the garden is great for kids. There wasn't music on when we visited, but they have bands regularly The only negative is that the loos could do with a scrub. However, we'll be back again. Nice pub with a good vibe. Highly recommended.

A great friendly Pub with excellent food and service. Visited today (12th Jan) with my family for lunch. All our meals were excellent. The service was good, and the staff and other diners were very friendly and welcoming. Have dined here before about 3 years ago and the quality of the food and service today was better than on our last visit (i think it has new owners). Thoroughly recommend this Pub. You will not be disappointed. Also very dog friendly.

Beautifully decorated pub, friendly staff and food that is out of this world! Having eaten at many a pub/restaurant I can hands down say that the food here is beautiful and well priced....perfect portion sizes! Children's play area is great and loads of outdoor seating for relaxed drinks or alfresco dining! Please make this pub a must for any day dining ..... but especially a Sunday Roast!

Visited this pub for a superb lunch today. The food was delicious, all four of us agreed that this was one of the best pub lunches that we have had in a long time, compliments to the chef. We found the pub to be really pleasant, very clean and the staff were all friendly. I'm looking forward to going back and sampling some more of that wonderful cooking.

We booked a table for eight people on a Sunday afternoon , and decided to sit outside. Initially there was some confusion when ordering as requests were placed at different times, leading to some of the party being told that there was no more food until 4:30pm. Once we’d established that the group was together, there were no issues. Service was friendly but a bit slow, they seemed to be a few staff short, but the ladies behind the bar worked continuously to get everyone served. Food was excellent, the large roast was massive with the veg coming on a separate plate, I struggled to finish this one ! Others really enjoyed the pizzas and ploughman’s. Overall a decent visit, but I guess some staff absence let them down a bit. We will return .

The food here is incredible! A very talented chef with a great team to make it a perfect experience 🤩 Beautifully decorated pub, large garden with brilliant play area, lovely view across its own fields ‘soon to host Tractor Fest 2023’ and also a stones throw away from the New Forest making it a walkers/dog walkers/cyclists haven! We don’t usually visit this side of the forest often since we live the other side, however after our dinner last night we will definitely be returning! As with most places there weren’t many vegan options on the menu however the vegan garden party pizza was absolutely incredible and they don’t need more options! I can confirm whatever vegan cheese they use was a very good choice, it melted beautifully and was delicious. We will definitely be back specifically for this pizza. Our friends meat pizza also looked really good if that’s your thing! Also the younger blonde female behind the bar who served us was very smiley, friendly and made us feel very welcome, a much nicer experience than some of the cold faced servers you sometimes encounter in hospitality settings. I’m not often inclined to write reviews unless it was a bad experience, but between the delicious pizza and the lady who served us it was a great experience, so thank you and we will see you again soon!

We received a warm welcome yesterday evening. A great selection of drinks on offer and an excellent menu to go with it. We had the camembert to start which was delicious. For mains we had the 'pie of the day' and scampi which were amazing, super tasty and a generous portion size. Fantastic service from the team. We will definitely be returning soon. Thank you again. An amazing pub it the New Forest. We came in for lunch and it was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and made sure we were well accommodated too. The food was excellent in every aspect. Quality, quantity and excellent value for money. We could only stay a couple of hours but will defiantly be back. Being walking distance from the train station means coming in from Bournemouth Poole Christchurch or Southampton is easily done if you fancy a few drinks. Very highly recommended.

I visited yesterday with my family to have a Sunday dinner, me and my very fussy wife had the roast beef which was absolutely fantastic, a lovely family feel to the pub with great service, will definitely be returning.

We heard many good things about the roast dinners ar the gamekeeper and wasn’t disappointed the food was lovely and hot the selection of vegetables good and lovely potatoes the beef was very tender and to top it off. The staff were fantastic. Well done we will be back.

I come here on a regular bases and the pub covers all the thing you want from a pub, great food, friendly staff, good live musics on the regular, pub quiz's. Ive always had a good time at The Gamekeeper. The decor is a nice touch and modern. The new chef is producing some delicious meals, especially the Pie of the Day

I’ve had a lot of roasts in the forest, and this was without a doubt, with the new chef, the best I’ve had in a long time! Would definitely recommend. Great service, great price, great location. And the dog even got a treat.

My wife and I (plus dog) were staying in the area over Xmas and popped in for a drink and lunch. Inside the pub has a country charm with a lot of floral decorations which were OK but personally we thought a bit overwhelming. Having said this the staff were were attentive and friendly, plus the food was hot and tasty. The pub also has a large outside covered seating area which I would imagine would be great in the summer.

We had a family meal of 12 on sunday 19th January 2020. The landlady couldn't have been more helpful we were seated in a beautiful location are food all came together it was well presented and it tasted wonderful I would definitely recommend the roast dinner the pub had a warm and friendly atmosphere the whole family felt that we were valued I would 100% recommend this pub we will definitely be back

Good honest pub food available from this pub. Drinks were Wadsworth brewed and service was excellent. Great selection of Gins available. Can be visited as part of a New Forest walk. Happy for folks to turn up in walking gear.

We came here a few years ago and to be honest it was awfull, but we have just moved into the area and found out it had been taken over by new people... what a lovely pub so clean, and the food is really good, our only moan is the car park, it's so dark you can't see a foot in front of you, bright lights please.

Such a warm welcome from the new owners of a lovely country pub. We both had the Christmas special mistle moo pie and it was amazing. The mushy peas were the best I’ve had. All served in front of the roaring fire..perfect for a winters eve. Would highly recommend and will definitely be going back.

This is the first time we've visited the Gamekeeper for a year and we're really impressed. It has recently been taken over by new personel and they have definitely improved things. The food was excellent and the staff exceptional. They are really trying to change things and it is working, keep up the good work! We had a variety of meals including burgers, chicken, gammon and sausages and all were more than acceptable. Really good atmosphere, we will definitely book again.

A warm genuine welcome, great food and drinks too. The new owners have made a great improvement in a short space of time. Gone are the sour faces of before, this is a great place to go now.

Great pub obviously regaining popularity with the locals now it is under new management. We visited on a weekend away to the new forest and were given a very warm welcome, food and service 10/10. Would definitely recommend.

Today we went to The Gamekeeper. This place has just been taken over so is under new management. It started off well but slowly went downhill. There was a choice of lamb or beef and the chef had agreed to sort out a vegetarian option. The food was mediocre. It felt like everything was shop bought, not really cooked that well and not very hot, the roast potatoes were especially poor. Staff tried but couldn’t quite provide a good service. Access was good with a large modern disabled toilet. Hopefully things will improve as they get settled, but today was not a positive experience.

4 meals. 2 good. 2 not so good.

We went to the Gamekeeper last night on a groupon deal. Lovely looking pub although the drinks are quite expensive. Ordered our starters and 45 mins later no sign of any food being served. When queried with staff they said it was because they had a table of 7 to deal with and that our food was nearly ready. We paid for our drinks and left. Groupon have credited us our money back, great service from them not so much from the Gamekeeper. Shame as as really looking forwward to it.

We used to go to the Gamekeeper occasionally, but for various reasons hadn't for quite a while. When we went in a few weeks ago, we discovered that they still had an excellent range of well-kept cask ales (It is a Wadworth pub), but the place had been smartened up and modernised to a startling degree, and had a very interesting-looking menu on display.

This should be a nice, friendly village type pub.

Only popped in briefly ordered the cheese Board, was very impressed by the amount of cheese you get for the price lovely food will come again.

This was once a lovely forest pub that was in need of a bit of a facelift. New people took it over and went totally over the top . It would be well suited in a town. No atmosphere and expensive food.

Outside it looks like an old fashioned English pub - inside it looks like a gastro pub chain ... neither is true. It actually has a very good varied menu. Not necessarily cheap but very good food. Also has a acceptable outside seating area at the back.

Have visiited twice recently and thoroughly enjoyed the lunch experience on both occasions. Friendly staff, good service and super menu choices. Not very busy on either visit but didn't detract. Worth noting there were menu changes on the second visit which we felt was a plus particualrly if you are a regular customer.

Had an excellent meal this evening. All home cooked. Good fresh vegetables. Very warm and welcoming staff. Highly recommend. We will be returning. The steak and ale pie was simply superb! Great Camembert to share. Thank you .

Places on groupon are very hit and miss so you never know what to Expect

Went there for a Sunday roast with friends to an empty, charmless pub without atmosphere. We all choose roasts and the vegetables were well cooked and fresh but the lamb was grey, tasteless, catering meat cut in thin, extremely fatty, slices. It was very disappointing. On the bright side, the puddings were better and quite tasty,

First time here and had lovely evening. Staff were friendly, food was very nice although some mains seemed slightly overpriced but some starters were well priced. Good service. Lovely decor and clearly been refurbished. Great to be able to take dogs. Nice atmosphere to just go for a drink too. Would be great to have swing or something for kids in garden. We booked a table for two using a 'Gastro Pub and Restaurant Dining' gift from The Activity Superstore - the booking was made directly with The Gamekeeper in accordance with the terms of the scheme. When we arrived we were advised that the Pub was no longer taking bookings under this scheme, had no record of our booking, and basically could not do anything for us. The member of staff with whom we dealt told us to 'F*** ***, and was rude and unhelpful throughout - truly astonishing. Probably the most appalling treatment I have experienced in the pub/restaurant sphere, this establishment is not worthy of anybody's patronage. No wonder British pubs are closing at an alarming rate if this is the best the industry can do.

This pub is a bit tucked away off the main roads but well worth a visit, The food was very fresh and flavourful, especially the halloumi and avocado starter. The portions are generous and nicely presented, the prices reasonable and the surroundings pleasant, the dining room which is light and airy looks out over countryside.

Had booked an early evening for dinner, had a pleasant welcome from the owner. They had originally seated us in one of the booths, But i preferred the conservatory, no problem. Menu's in hand and drinks ordered.The menu is quite small, but that's not a bad thing. we ordered the salmon and pate for starters. When they arrived was really surprised at the size of the portions, quantity as well as quality. For the mains we had the Lamb with sweet potato mash and veg and a Beef Stroganoff with rice. same as starters very tasty and generous in size. The service was great and food presentation nice.

Very very appaled at this place. 8pm at night, waited for 35 minutes to have my order taken only to be told they've stopped serving because they were too busy... We were then left to find a pub that was still serving in the middle of nowhere. We ended up in a fish and chips shop nearby who were happy to hear our rant and happy to serve us. Their food was lovely.

Dropped in for lunch after having been told that te pub was under new management and had a pleasant surprise. Gone was the tired decor, furniture and fittings to be replaced with a pleasant surrounding and friendly staff. Choice of food was good and was cooked to order and wws well worth the wait. Will be visiting agsin.

We were staying with our family in Woodlands so this was the only choice but we were not disappointed. It was very quiet (ff season) and has a modern feel so not a "traditional pub" but everything was really clean. We were made to feel welcome. There is a good choice. We had Pate, Halloumi Salad, muscles and Baked Camembert for starters followed by Pork Belly, Lamb shank, Steak and Ale pie and Trout. It was all cooked pretty well but the portions are really huge. They could be smaller without anyone having any issues, I am sure.

Visited the area for a couple of days last week and had a really pleasant evening at The Gamekeeper. Fancied a few beers and plumped for a local pub rather than the hotel and we weren’t disappointed. The pub looks very traditional from the outside but on entering, the interior, has a very modern look and feel to it. Staff very friendly and helpful, so we decided to stay for dinner and we were pleased we did. All four of us enjoyed what we had, especially the the veggie shepherds pie and the rib eye steaks. All in all a very enjoyable evening, albeit rather a lot of money.

Went here for Thursday dinner. Great atmosphere in a quiet village. Lots of local diners/drinkers and christmas parties says it all.

On my son birthday i search many hotels but in last i found this one is great and my experience with this hotel is excellent you also have to go there.

Staff were very rude/unpleasant, not at all welcoming.

We had an evening meal and a couple of drinks here. The food wasn't quick in coming but given its is all freshly prepared the wait was acceptable. I could image that at busy periods this might be extended, but would be worth the wait.

Came here for lunch with my parents whilst visiting home, since we had heard it had been refurbished and much improved. Unfortunately there were only a few people watching football when we were there so there wasn't much atmosphere, and the inside (whilst lovely and clean) is very simple and not typical of a New Forest pub, so honestly I wasn't expecting too much.

We spent the evening here with friends. Newly refurbished and it looks fab. We had prawn cocktail and scallops for starters. Looked amazing and tasted great. For mains we had rib eye steak cooked perfectly as medium rare, linguine with chilli and med veg which was full

Me and the boyfriend went for a late lunch, ended up sharing a burger and chips. Bearing in mind we were the only ones eating at around half 3 on a Saturday we waited over half an hour for just one meal. Burger was ok not brilliant wouldnt say it’s worth the £10 something we paid for it.

We had stopped previously and were looking forward to seeing the new changes.

My husband and I ate here one night during our stay in woodlands, we ordered two mixed grills the gentleman that served us said it was big and said he hoped we were hungry, he wasn’t kidding, when it came it contained steak,pork, gammon, 2eggs, kidneys, chip, tomato , mushroom and onion rings it was brilliant value and very tasty, our two westies enjoyed it with us. The staff were very friendly and made a fuss of all the dogs in the room.
