Two couples went for afternoon tea at this lovely location and setting. Incredibly it’s close to the M4 but in a secluded and quiet village. We had a drink in the bar pre our afternoon tea, which is pleasantly furnished with comfortable seating. The afternoon tea was excellent……… Freshly made sandwiches, good range of cakes and last, but not least warm scones with more than adequate cream and jam portions. Lastly, the Staff were very friendly and helpful and extremely efficient. The lady manning the Bar, and the gentleman on Reception and serving the table were really ‘on the ball’ and made our afternoon very special.

The staff themselves were excellent, pleasant and very accommodating. But one chef on with a full restaurant and two staff to man the restaurant, bar and reception put too much pressure on them

Early in June we were planning a family celebration at the end of July, with 7 of us coming from all over the UK - and this was a central option with good reviews. I tried to book a table online, but they do not allow bookings for 6+ online - I could have booked a table online for 6 on the desired date and time. So I emailed and received a response saying there were no tables available - I emailed back to ask as there is a table for 6, could I book that? No answer so I telephoned and they confirmed a table for 7 people and I received Open Table confirmation. Then a week before our event, I emailed to confirm our booking and received a response saying “Good afternoon, And you have a confirmation of this booking ? As i cannot see a booking for this date. Kind regards Stanton Manor” So I immediately responded to say Yes, and sent a copy of our confirmation. No answer after 5 days - so I logged a complaint on their complaints page. Still no answer. So we have no choice but to go elsewhere, this is unacceptable customer service and hopefully this review will prompt them to do something to rectify. A good review is only good if people can book a table!

Food was really nice, squid to start followed by the pork. Both dishes did not disappoint and the young waitress was attentive, friendly and efficient. Breakfast in the morning was just as good, local quality ingredients and again great service, keep it up 👍

After checking out the online menu we decide to book for a family dinner. The first impression was not good as there was no one to welcome you into the restaurant which wasn’t very welcoming and we had to find our own way to the dining room. We were then presented with the menu which was nothing like the online menu which had lots of veggie options. The menu we were given had only one veggie option which was a cauliflower curry, which isn’t very summery (July). The curry had yogurt which means it isn’t suitable for vegans. The only veggie starter was soup again not very summery. When we asked if there was any alternative the young waitress just shrugged and said she would ask. They then came back with an alternative from the Caesar salad starter (for a main) minus the bacon which they would add halloumi which is a bit of a cop out! I then suggest they put the halloumi into a burger which the chef agreed to do. This was going to be served with a spicy relish (which was non existent). Coca Cola was also not available and we were offered the zero option which was only a mixer bottle which was charged at full price. The deserts were also a let down. Overall impression of the place was lovely on the outside but grotty inside and run down. I understand that during present times there could be a reduced menu this should have been highlighted on their website to avoid disappointment. I feel we would have received a better meal at a Wetherspoons and it would have cost a substantial amount less.

Poor all round. Waited 15 minutes after our 3pm arrival for service. There was no loose tea selection - only tea bags, No teaspoons with the cups, or for the jam or cream and nothing with which to eat the runny panna cotta!! Only one plate each to cope with sandwiches, cake and scones. Sandwiches were adequate ; scones a little on the dry side and the cakes had seen better days. Waitress was pleasant but seemed out of her depth and once she had delivered the tea and cakes, was not seen again. No one asked if everything was okay either at the table or on our departure. We were expecting an "experience" but were bitterly disappointed. Needless to say, we will not be patronising this establishment again. NB The garden could benefit from a good weeding.

We were on a Travelzoo deal at the Stanton Manor hotel which included a taster menu in their Gallery Restaurant. This is obviously a very popular restaurant with good ambiance and was quite busy. There was plenty of choice on the menu and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal and although only four courses plus an amuse bouche we did not go away hungry. The food was good and so was the service. We will be back when next in the area. Breakfast was good too the eggs Benedict for breakfast were superb. This restaurant is highly recommended.

We were staying at the Stanton Manor hotel for an Only Fools & 3 Courses Comedy Dining Experience - Whilst the comedy was top notch - the food certainly wasn't! The food didn't live up to expectations. Cheaply cooked to a price. The soup was overly spiced. The salmon cooked in red wine - simply weird. However the Winters mess for dessert was divine, if very small. The wife's whipped cheese was inedible. So very hit and miss. Also, I had ordered Gluten Free, but this confused the staff, who at one point removed my plate after i'd started eating, and brought it back 5 minutes later, having removed a wrap - this is simply not good allergy awareness. Breakfast in the morning was buffet only - with a very late start of 9am - not what you would expect from such a highly regarded hotel. The breakfast was OK, but nothing to right home about. The coffee was very good and served very hot.

(Administración bien hecho.)La boda no era precioso. Family pre-Christmas lunch. Family members travelling for over an hour minimum to meet up. we were given a private room which was greats, the lovely big fireplace was filled with a Poinsettia, a roaring fire would have been atmospheric and warm as the room was cold, three of us ate with coats on. We were brought a tiny quartz heater when we asked for heat and the radiators were cold. The salmon starter consisted of a tiny circle of salmon some blobs of pink and purple and the tiniest bit of salmon mousse served on a slate. It looked more like something you would have finished not something to 'start'. The soup was fine, but arrived without any bread, which on request arrived with the main course as did eventually the butter The turkey, complete with gravy and potatoes and a little ball of raw stuffing came without any vegetables to accompany it which had to be requested and eventually arrived, an unappetising selection (!) of broccoli and cauliflower, by which time the luke warm turkey was less so. Condiments also had to be requested as did the Cranberry sauce which arrived as the meal was completed. Dessert, coffee and mince pies were the redeeming grace. We were given two complimentary bottles of (not very impressive) wine as the staff must have realised things were not going to plan. We appreciated the gesture and did not complain or refute the bill as being a once yearly gathering we did not want to further spoil the occasion and were able to see the funny side of it! Oh and what a surprise even the bill was incorrect! I will not even elaborate on the less than cold white wine and tap water that had to be retrieved from a distant source as the tap in the bar was not working. Lightbulbs in the gents and ladies were missing as was a non working handrier and no towels. The young staff were very pleasant, but totally inexperienced and there wasn't a senior member of staff present to oversee proceedings. Will we be visiting again? I think not!

i have been visiting this hotel for a good number of years. Over recent months the service and standards of catering has been rather hit or miss. Visited today having booked afternoon tea for 4 adults with a glass of mulled wine and a small afternoon tea with a glass of apple juice for my granddaughter. Having telephoned and booked this through a friend, employed at the Hotel, I believed the afternoon would be a pleasant event for my daughters birthday.Unfortunately this was not the case. We have enjoyed afternoon tea at a number of the most prestigious hotels and other locations across the country and this was without doubt the most disappointing yet.We were ushered into the restaurant where the tables looked drab and uninviting, in fact the table we were ushered to had strips of the veneer lifting. There were no table covers either. The afternoon tea, for 4 persons, comprised of a few finger sandwiches, a number of scones and an abundance of slabs of cake. No finesse or effort had gone into this at all. The additional tea for my granddaughter seemed to have been forgotten although the waitress did eventually, upon request, bring 3 cheese and ham finger sandwiches although we were not asked whether we wanted white or brown bread. There was no Apple juice or chocolate brownie which had been requested although the apple juice was supplied but again only after further request. The waitress was not in evidence and all requests meant going to the reception desk where the very helpful and pleasant receptionist did her best to sort things out.A gentleman who I took to be the duty manager was in attendance but failed to acknowledge or engage with me.For a hotel that has had such a good name this is so disappointing and it can only be hoped that efforts are made to improve things straight away in order to retain the custom of those of us who have, as I say, supported the hotel for a number of years.

Arrived early in anticipation, glad we did as the driveway was shocking full of large potholes. We opted for a drink from the bar,the were no clean glasses avaliable but plenty of used ones waiting to be cleaned !!2 Gin and tonics and £13 later....yes £13 we went in for tea.We had 2 cheese and cucumber,1 tinned tuna mayo,1egg mayo fingers each.Just about adding up to 4 slices of bread, this was accompanied by a single pot of tea for one that we had to share. As for the cakes on offer were 4 scones looking like ice hockey pucks flat and tasteless 4 tiny and I mean tiny attempts of petit fours,2 slices of lemon drizzle & 2 slices of carrot cake, to accompany the scones was a very pretentious slab of slate with cream jam & butter placed on it.We had to ask for our jug of cordial that arrived eventually, and then the glasses to drink the cordial had to be asked for as well,a second pot of tea was requested and this did arrive...same pot though as I recognised the chip on the spout...classy eh.English afternoon tea is an English institution not a cheap money making exercise we paid £20 for 2 teabags 4 slices of filled bread and 3 small cakes.?..shocking.The hotel is tired the gardens were unkempt we saw no attempt at customer care at all just grab your money....buyer beware you have been warned !!!If you want value for money may I suggest huffkins at burford.....that IS English afternoon tea.....enjoy.

We visited for afternoon tea with Prosecco, using a Groupon. We were greeted by a receptionist and a very pleasant young waiter who served us in the restaurant. We were given the choice of tables and chose to sit by the window. The decor is shabby chic - distressed old furniture and stripped floorboards. It was nice to have linen serviettes! We were offered tea or coffee and on request received a decent sized pot of coffee for one of us and a pot of hot water and a selection of herbal tea bags for the other. It was easy to ask for more hot water in a larger pot once that had been used. Our food came on a cake stand and comprised four finger sandwiches each, half made from white and half from brown bread, which suited us well. There was a warm plain and a fruit scone each, with a dish of cream, butter and jam. We also had a slice each of carrot cake and lemon drizzle cake, not exactly fancy but all the nicer for being home baked.I had bought the voucher that included a glass each of Prosecco, and when these arrived they were chilled and very full - lovely! There was more than enough food to satisfy us and we enjoyed a stroll around the gardens afterwards. These are pretty and you can see that work has been done on planting some areas with summer flowers, but some of the beds are in real need of some TLC.

Recently visited Stanton Manor restaurant for a cream tea, very disappointing; When we first arrived we were directed to a rather tired lounge with worn and faded furniture, after a wait of approx 10 minutes we were escorted to The Gallary restaurant which was just as tired and shabby. That should have been a warning; the Afternoon Tea consisted of ham, tuna, salmon and egg sandwiches with scones, sliced cake and what should have been cake fancies. The tea arrived, a small pot between 3, had to ask for a second pot, the sandwiches were poorly cut and reminded me of school picnic sandwiches, the scones were flat and came with a small pot of very hard butter, jam and cream, between 4 people, had to ask for refills after two scones, the cakes were sliced slabs of dry marble cake and Madeira/sponge (not sure which). The cake fancies were basic sponge piped into sweet cases with a dollop of lemon curd on top of each.I am really disappointed, I can't even find one good or complementary comment. We have been to several other Venus for cream teas in the past but have never been so appalled as we have with this cream team This was the worst Afternoon Tea that I have ever seen.My wife reminded me that one of the scones was so flat that she had to send it backWe purchased this Afternoon Tea as a gift on Groupon at an advertised rate of 50% discount, the tea was still very poor value for money at the discounted rate, never mind the full rate.

We arrived a bit early but all the staff were very friendly and showed us to our table which had a lovely view out onto the gardens. A little disappointed with the fillings of the sandwiches, egg, smoked salmon and cucumber but fresh. However, the cakes were lovely and demolished quite quickly. Freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, mixed berry sponge which was also fresh, Apple and cinnamon cakes, also just cooked and chocolate brownies. Yum!! We stayed here just last week and already miss it. It was an amazing surprise. The manor is located in a wonderful countryside but not so far from the main roads leading to famous historic and touristic cities/sites. The rooms are large and clean, with every kind of comfort and lovely furniture, it seems to be in a remote past. It's like to walk through history. We have been assisted by the staff that is formed by kind and warm people. Very useful the suggestion to visit the Xmas markets in Bath... a stunning experience! I had been recommended to visit Stanton Manor which has a high reputation for weddings but had never tried their restaurant before. The Manor had belonged to Lord Burghley one of Queen Elizabeth`s Ministers and rebuilt and refurbished in the 1840s. The gardens are a treat and whoever is responsible should take pride in their appearance. Looking-out of the Gallery Restaurant window I could imagine the Wedding party strolling in the grounds and a Bride`s joy at the resulting photographs. The menu is not extensive but I enjoyed the starter of Ham Hock Terrine and Piccalilli followed by Roast Supreme of chicken, Goose Fat Roast Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables and a Red Wine Jus. Madagascar Mousse with Raspberry Sorbet to finish and with my first ever drink of a Budweizer Lager my bill of £27.95 was par for the course but if I had one suggestion it was to offer the seasonal vegetables in a separate dish rather than on the plate. This makes the meal look better and is a more professional approach. Verity and Holly made by visit enjoyable and I will most certainly visit again.

Booked the private room for a family party, the room was very nice, a good size and the table was set out well. Able to take own music but we were asked to turn it down, it was still quite early. The food had to be booked and paid for in advance plus the cost to hire the room. The food had mixed reviews from the party, I had the chicken which was nice but the beef was very tough, there was alot of red cabbage on the plate which most people left as it had a funny taste, maybe some sort of spice? anyway not very nice. The puds were ok but the Eton Mess was all cream and hardly any meringue. We were also told the bar would be available until required, maybe 1 ish but just after 11 they called last orders so make sure you check this if you book. Everything was nicely cooked and well served. My family met up here for a celebratory meal in October. It is conveniently located just off the motorway junction and everyone found it easily, which was great because we were coming from all directions. The staff greeted us warmly and we had drinks in the cosy bar while we waited for everyone to arrive. The menu wasn't huge but there was something that everyone fancied. We were all happy with our choices and the timing between courses was spot on. I think there's nothing worse than having to wait ages to order dessert and then it taking ages to arrive! As it was Sunday most of us opted for the roast which came with plenty of veg and crispy roast potatoes. Puddings didn't disappoint and they use good quality coffee. We lounged around in comfy chairs and chatted the afternoon away without anyone rushing us out of the door which we really appreciated. All in all it was a relaxing place to meet and eat.

We stumbled across this little country manor hotel when researching for a Sunday Lunch for a family celebration. When calling in on spec we were received most graciously and attentively and from our shortlist this stood out. Our prebooking was handled courteously and efficiently. On the day our family of 9 gathered in the bar before lunch (8 adults & 1 child). We had to remind the staff to show us menus, but we were in no hurry, so this lapse did not matter. Similarly, at the table, after bringing us sparkling wine as requested, the wait-staff failed to ask if we wanted anything else to drink. However, a nudge got them on message okay! The sunday lunch menu was limited (3 or 4 choices per course), but the quality of the offering was excellent. After lunch my family spent the afternoon chatting over coffee in the lounge or strolling in the delightful gardens. All in all a very relaxing afternoon in which we had a happy time in a tranquil and tasteful setting. So pleased in fact that we are considering the hotel for a larger family event in the future.

Large party of Japanese tourists had arrived for afternoon tea just prior to us arriving and also a couple checking in but the staff were very alert to the potential for delays. We sat in the bar whilst waiting for drinks and our food order to be taken. Cosy but dull. Unfortunately coffee after the meal was also taken in the bar as the lounge had not been cleared from the tourists. We were warned that would be the case. With another party also in the bar it was rather cramped.Gardens well maintained and whilst Motorway( M4) noise apparent in garden- not so insideService at table very good, food well presented and whilst relatively limited Sunday Lunch menu ( 3 starters,3 mains,3 sweets) something for everyone. At least being limited menu it was reassuring everything was cooked fresh. I did leave some chicken as it was pink near the bone. Did not appreciate we would be charged for House(tap?) water. All in all, on balance, a nice setting for good food in comfortable surrounds

I think because the was a group of about 25 of us for dinner, there was no choice of menu but that may have been down to the organisers of the event a choice would have been nice.

My partner and I decided that this year we wouldn't have to worry about Christmas Lunch and I'm so glad that we chose Stanton Manor! From the moment we arrived we felt like royalty with the red carpet out and welcoming staff, this went down very well with both our Grand parents. The house looked stunning and very festive, especially with a roaring fire, it really did feel like Christmas. We were the first to be seated in the restaurant and we were given a table by the window which overlooks the gardens, stunning! My Grandma felt a little chilly but as soon as we mentioned this to the staff they came to the rescue with a little heater for her, she was so pleased and really felt looked after. Our name cards also had our pre-order on which was great and we took them as souvenirs! As for the food, the starter was incredible, perfect portions before our traditional Christmas Lunch which again was delicious. We all had a different desserts which were all well presented and mouthwatering! We finished off our meal with coffees in the gallery in front of the open fire. I can't recommend this restaurant enough! Great location and surroundings, food of a very high standard and the staff extremely helpful and attentive.

My family visited for lunch. The food was very fresh and every thing we ordered was delicious. This may sounds too ordinary praise. Upon this trip, we have visited number of reputable restaurants including Lucknam Park and Manor House Hotel in Castle Combe, but this establishment was the best of all.Fish was very fresh and cooked crisp and just right. Pate was rich but not sickening. Lamb was tender and very well trimmed. Menu is honest English with sophisticated polish, which made all of our family excited to sample. Thanks to the chef, this restaurant is not trying too hard to deliver exotic menu that ruin the food experience, often seen in many of country restaurant in UK. I do not eat anything too oily or not fresh. Hence I often do not enjoy eating out in UK. Yet, I just cannot find any complaints here.I would like to see more people visit this restaurant after reading my review. Because, Stanton Manor is way cheaper than some restaurant in this area. Great value for money.I must note that service here was absolutely lovely. No surprise, our next table was group of over 60s, everyone happy and relaxed, celebrating the birthday of their dear friend who just turned 70.

We found this place in the gourmet book and figured it was halfway between us and our regular dining friends so we booked a table for a Thursday night. We were greeted on arrival and shown to the relaxing bar area where they have a fine selection of draught, bottled ales and wine.We were handed menus and allowed to relax in the bar to choose, great menu, 4 choices for each course and all 4 of us could have happily chosen all of the items on there. 3 courses for £28.50 which is great value for food this good!Service was excellent, food was presented beautifully and was divine to taste. Dining room is very cosy and tastefully decorated. The surroundings of the building are lovely too so next time we'll go on a warmer summer evening to enjoy that a bit more, yes there WILL be a next time!A little hidden gem in North Wiltshire!

My wife and I stayed for one night. Room (double superior room overlooking beautiful gardens) was quite large but a little dull and tired - a chair with ripped fabric not very pleasant. The bathroom was modern and very big. Upon arrival at 1830, went to bar for a drink - no draught beers as pipes were being cleaned (!) and room definitely in need of updating.Dinner in restaurant was excellent - really good quality food well cooked. Breakfast equally good quality, though the tiny portions of smoked haddock we were both served made us both think that there was some cost-saving efforts going on. Overall, OK for a 3 star - though over-priced (and we paid less than the advertised rate)but which with some attention and not too much additional spend would improve considerably.

Me and my partner went to have a Full Afternoon Tea here, and it was lovely! There was so much food including, sandwiches, scones, cream, jam and a selection of cakes, all of which was good quality. The pot of tea is sure for tea lovers which had plenty of tea inside. The staff were really lovely and friendly and the atmosphere was brilliant. I'm definatly going to be going there agian.

We stayed on a Sunday Night special in June, the only guests. Hotel is very dated and needs an internal upgrade. Garden and setting very nice and easy access to motorway. As the only guests it was disappointing that we had a room out the back overlooking the rubbish storage area.Restaurant food was very average, not as special as the internet site suggested. Service OK, but of course no atmosphere as empty! We were not told what breakfast arrangements there were and could not be bothered to ask or stay to find out as it was like being a rather unwanted house guest. We left to go to the Arboretum in Westonbirt for tea in more congenial surroundings and would recommend that as a stop off to anyone in the area.

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.

Very good lunch, busy but were found a table quickly. Staff we dealt with were all excellent, special thanks to Amelia who recommended the BBQ chicken with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Will be another addition to our favourite lunch spots..
