We visited the Froize today for my grandads birthday and it was superb. Two of the party were vegetarian and the owner went out of his way to make us 4 vegetarian options (stuffed mushroom, root vegetable pie, mushroom stroganoff and nut roast). Amazing homemade desserts also. Its so rare to find a restaurant that go out of their way for vegetarians to give lots of out of the ordinary options, and we were lucky enough to get to try some of each dish! Thank you for a lovely lunch, we will be back!

This was a real find. We were visiting the area for the first time and found this when researching. We visited for Sunday Lunch on a hot sunny day, after driving through beautiful countryside. The pub is not a clone of all those that have been modernised and look identical, but the food was excellent. Everything home made and delicious. I had the venison pie, and my husband had roast pork. The best he's ever tasted! We shared a dessert as we were so full, that was delicious as well. David the owner was welcoming, and takes such pride in his offering. We were interested to see they hold music evenings, something for future visits. We hope to return next year, but in the meantime would recommend this to anyone who enjoys their food and wants value for money.

Great little place, with a superb carvery lunch, David, clearly is very passionate about his food and it doesn't disappoint. a superb array of dishes, and whilst at £25.00 per head, its probably the best £25.00 you will spend on food. What sets the pub apart from other eateries is the staff, always happy, willing to chat and looked happy to be there, unfortunately that cannot be said about a large number of eateries these days!

The Froize is lovely! We are arrived to a cosy and welcoming bar for a pre dinner drink served by a friendly lady. We went through to our table and were taken aback by the food on display on the hot table. It looked and smelled delicious and it was really hard to choose. It seemed like the chef and host David has figured out everyone’s 6 or so favourite meals and then added his own knowledge of flavours to take them to another level. Puddings were another tough choice and didn’t disappoint. Don’t confuse The Froize with a buffet or carvery, it is so much more than that. It’s a restaurant where you can see and smell the dishes before you choose and then you’re served by the chef himself. The tables are well spaced so you don’t feel squeezed in or crowded and the atmosphere is quite special. I could write much more but I will just say that The Froize is perfect in every way and give my thanks to the team for a lovely evening. It was our first visit but most definitely will be the first of many more.

Seeing for the first time the ‘POOR’ reviews (occupational hazard sadly) with most ‘batted away’ professionally by ‘The Froize’ team in response. THIS is from a whole Fluffle of quote.... ‘happy bunnies’ taking little notice of dissenters (voices in the wilderness most certainly) !!We first visited The Froize a couple of years back, by recommendation AND in the company of close friends. Despite being deep in the Suffolk countryside it was and remains an easy drive. Proving to be worth every moment of our frequent (?) returns, I can add nothing to the volume of earlier reviews from satisfied customers !? Save that there seems to be an ever growing number of them !!! ....Must be appreciation of ‘good food, excellent service and no small amount of inclusion of good humour......result !Selfishly therefore is the acceptable(??) realisation we have to grovel somewhat to be ‘included’ when calling these days. “ WE CAN DO THAT “ .......with ease !

We were staying in Shingle Street and wanted to walk about 10 miles to a pub for lunch and get a taxi home. We called the Froize, but it was one of several possibles. We asked what time they stopped serving lunch, and they said, 'what time would you like to come?'. We suggested 14.00, as we had a long way to walk. They said that would be fine and took our details. We asked if we could bring the dog, who was walking with us, and they said 'Yes, fine', which is normal for pubs.At around 13.30 we got a call to ask us how far away we were as they stopped serving at 13.30. We were absolutely amazed that we had not been told that when we phoned to ask that specific question. We repeated exactly what we had been told previously and said if we really rushed we might be able to get there a bit before 14.00.In the end we arrived at 13.50. Again, amazement as we were told they could not accommodate us because they did not accept dogs. Two simple questions were asked at 10.30 AM. 'What time do you stop serving lunch?' and 'Do you accept dogs?' both of which were answered wrongly. Surely the most recently appointed member of staff would either know the answer to these questions or have the initiative to check, especially when they were told we were walking 10 miles to get there. We pleaded with the woman who appeared to be in charge. We asked to speak to a manager, but we were told no and we were definitely NOT WELCOME. She was like a block of ice. It was impossible to reason with her. so 5 starving hungry people had to go out into the rain to call a taxi. So, take my advice, go elsewhere. We mentioned what had happened to the taxi driver and he told us that none of the locals every went there because it is a weird place. We agree.I've put terrible for the food because you have to select something but in fairness we did not get to taste the food

It has been longer than we would have liked to revisit this unique pub and David's wonderful Suffolk cooking. We know this was not the Froize Christmas lunch but the draw of the Vension and ale pie and the Bread and butter pudding plus a pint of good Suffolk ale, was too much to resist when returning from Norfolk along the A12 to Essex. The freindly service and cooking has not changed over the years making it a excellent choice of venue for a hearty lunch when in the area.

After having walked the Oak trees down at The Thicks (worth a visit) I had googled the Froize as a near by place to lunch. Lovely red brick building, super ambiance. Must admit was a little aware of the price but when I tasted the food (lamb tagine) and had food envy at my friends chicken pie I realised that this was something special. Yes you can eat cheaper with piles of chips and peas but this was food to savour. Great veg, seasonal and well cooked. Did not begrudge a penny. Our third visit, over a period of a few years, and still we rate this as one of our favourite places to eat for a special meal out in Suffolk. There are no starters on the menu any more - it’s straight into the buffet, but this is no problem as the generous choices of meats, fish, and vegetable mean you won’t be going home hungry. There is a delicious and varied choice of deserts to finish off with too. Some of the items on the menu we remembered from our previous visits ; the devilled kidneys and the boozy trifle for example so I would say they mix some customer favourites with new dishes to cater for all visitors.

Let me begin by saying this is a very popular restaurant which clearly meets or exceeds the expectations of many. To provide some balance however, let us be clear that this is a "hot buffet" style operation where you queue for prepared hot dishes or a number of roast meats that are carved for you, both kept warm under heat lamps. There are then a variety of vegetables to which you help yourself. You therefore have the opportunity for plates piled high with food. Puddings are ordered at your table.

Can't fault the staff - nice & friendly welcome. You walk past the food as you go in and it does look nice. When they start serving it's like being on a cruise ship when they announce the afternoon tea is ready..... a long queue in a small space. I had the roast beef and the meat was very nice. The parsnips and potatoes hard and almost cold, cauliflower overcooked and the Yorkshire puddings were not much better. The desserts were lovely though and that is what takes the review to 3 stars instead of 2. We were at the 12 o'clock sitting and you therefore have to be gone by 2 o'clock for the next sitting, no problem with that, what was slightly concerning was the fact they started putting the food out for the later sitting at 13:30 and they just put the fresh stuff on top of what had been out for our service..... lastly I would prefer the chef serving me my food with spoons and forks rather than his fingers. For the price paid it was substandard and more on par with Weatherspoon's which would cost you half.

At a first visit, I was a bit wary beforehand, being not usually a fan of pubs that are no longer strictly pubs, and even less of a fan of places that serve mediocre food in a novelty way - e.g. on a roof tile or wooden board - to justify high prices or simply because of ill-judged attention to supposed 'trends'. I needn't have worried. The food is served buffet-style at a straightforward fill-your-plate price, and what a tempting sight it was: excellently cooked country classics such as pheasant curry (in fact an array of different curries and accompaniments, with a nice hint of the Anglo-Indian), chicken and ham pie, good Sunday roasts, excellent vegetables, and so much more, a true table of plenty. If, like me, buffet might automatically bring to mind something rather utilitarian, this was a revelation, a real feast for the eyes. We'd come a long way and hadn't planned our visit on a very busy day but were helpfully fitted in with no fuss. Mr Grimwood himself served us at the buffet and was the good welcome personified, a charming host. A good pint of Adnams rounded things off. The Froize is an object lesson in the rewards of jettisoning the (supposedly) fashionable and just delivering excellence with hospitality. This is not a difficult formula, but one that could be more widely followed.

I had Mackeral Pate followed by baked cod and all the lovely vegetables I could want. I also had a little taste of the amazing Ginger upside down pudding and it was the best I have ever had, couldn’t manage a full potion as too full. The restaurant was very comfortable and had a nice bar area for drinks. I would definitely go back again and recommend it to all. A great evening.

Very well arranged and attentive staff made it all a real pleasure and the host serving you with witty and informed comments was most engaging. The food itself was really top notch and we could not fault it

What terrific value. 2 class folk acts - The Shackleton Trio and Steve Tilsdon and fantastic food. Billed as tapas but so much more. Our only regret was that we had eaten before coming out. Can't imagine how it is achieved for a £15 ticket - a great night out. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere, staff lovely, what's not to like.

This was the last meal out on our pre Christmas build up and a return to our favorite Suffolk pub and we had the Christmas set lunch. My wife chose Prawn Cocktail, Turkey followed by Christmas pudding, While I chose the wonderful parsnip soup, and a real must for me Game pie followed by Christmas pudding. David was on hand serving and greeting in his own inimitable style making the whole meal a truly memorable one.

I say this, as no restaurant has the right to serve food of this quality, week in, week out, whilst meeting and greeting customers in the best possible manner and going to these lengths to provide the perfect dining experience in beautiful surroundings.

We went for our friends 70th birthday celebration, this on a Sunday lunchtime. There were around 25 people in the group with about 10 young children. All was very very well organized by the staff, drink before lunch. Then the buffet lunch which outstanding, as much as could eat with dishes for everyone, venison pie, roast beef and many others to cater for all tastes. The chef who I think is the owner was very helpful and good natured, thr staff were all friendly. Many rich desserts to follow. We were lucky in that the weather was fine and after eating we were able to move to the garden for thr the children to burn off some calories!

Another visit to this wonderful pub with its down to earth Suffolk country cooking. We are never disappointed when we dine here and this visit was no exception, the lunch was excellent. With David at the helm encouraging us to have a bit of this and a bit of that made it a good start to our Suffolk break. We will be back and recomend anyone to dine here if you are in the area.

Family celebratory meal (15 of us) staying in a nearby holiday let. Didn't know the area at all, so just had to rely on internet research to book somewhere for our main meal out. Took a punt on The Froize and they didn't disappoint. From the start, patron David couldn't have been more helpful, responding quickly to my emails as I needed to ensure that we could all sit at 1 table and that our Coeliac guest could be easily and safely catered for.Don't let the idea of a "hot buffet" put you off. This is definitely not a "toby" carvery style place. Starters and deserts are made to order - I can recommend the partridge with parsnip puree and truffle oil. Portion sizes are very good.At the hot buffet David talks you through everything on offer and you are encouraged to try everything. I think across our party we pretty much had everything, but special note goes to the venison with dumplings, roast pork with fantastic crackling, devilled kidneys and the pheasant kievs.David took personal care of our Coeliac guest who enjoyed the choice she had across the menu. Personally I couldn't fit a desert in after a starter and main, but those that I saw from others in our party (sticking toffee pudding, mango pavlova, ice creams) were again generous and well received.Above all, the service we received from David and all his staff has to be commended. They were friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. If we are ever back in the area again, we will return.

Turned up for lunch without a booking on a Saturday lunchtime as we were walking the Suffolk Coast Path. Consequently we were clean but in walking boots, no problem at all. Buffet lunch with a wide choice of very good food - Partridge, Kidneys, Pork crackling all found favour with our party. Reasonable price, a good find, would certainly go back if in the area. They Folk nights every month which look very good.

I had wanted to visit for a while based on tripadvisor reviews and guidebooks. We went on an early weekday lunch time which perhaps wasn't the best time since it wasn't busy and felt a bit lacking in atmosphere. The mains all looked good but slightly dry sitting under the hot buffet lights. They were perfectly tasty. I agree with some of the reviewers that the vegetables were bland and most looked like they had been frozen from a packet, particularly the potatoes. The decor of the restaurant does not match with a sophisticated eating experience. It feels tired and the furniture cheap and lacking in character. Unfortunately in a quiet restaurant this is more noticeable so again I can see it not being such an issue on a busy weekend service. I feel that for the money you want an overall experience that makes you feel special and it does feel slightly like sitting in a Toby carvery at the moment.

Wow, this is an amazing place. Out for a drive and came across it, so glad we did. It was a Sunday and we hadn't booked but we only had to wait a few minutes for a table to be cleared. From the moment we walked in to the time we left we were treated outstandingly as were all the other diners. The food is amazing and so much to choose from. Hubby went for the guinea fowl, first time he'd had this and will be back for more soon. I had the duck - it was so tasty. All the other options looked very impressive to. Desserts were delicious. All in all very reasonably priced for top quality food. We will be back - although next time we will book in advance just to be sure we can secure a table. Hoping hubby going to take me there for my upcoming birthday meal - can't wait.

A recent return visit to The Froize was as supremely enjoyable as ever before. To say that I couldn’t fault anything is less than true – everything is superb. I don’t think I’ve had a meal of which every part was as good as I’ve ever enjoyed. The only downside is that every single item on the menu looked good and each would have been sensational. Choices, choices. I must pick out the dessert – steamed syrup pudding – not normally a delicate plateful, this was light and extremely satisfying. My mother in law was unable to finish her trifle – I was the grateful recipient – just wonderful. To round off this review with three items not directly connected with eating – the attention from the host is personal and genuine; the service from his staff is lovely, and lastly – there is a proper list of non-alcoholic drinks.

So good to be back at the Froize for a meal. This time we visited mid-week however the restaurant was still very busy. I find it hard, as always to make up my mind what to have. The roast pork looks delicious and so does the venison pie. We even had a taste of the curry, delicious! Well the lamb shank won (as it has often in the past) wonderful, it never fails to please. I'm not going to say anything about the strawberry cheesecake cake or the sticky toffee pudding. These you will have to try yourself! Another delightful meal at the Froize.

Myself and my family have been coming to the Froize for years, enjoying excellent food with fantastic service. I have never left a review before but felt compelled to after our recent visit. We had just enjoyed another lovely lunch and were just about to pay our bill when we heard another customer speaking to the staff in a rather unnecessary way, which is very unusual for here but as expected the staff handled them in a very professional manner, which just reinforced to us why we love it here so much.Thank you to all at The Froize, we shall return again soon.

Having heard a lot of good about this restaurant I suggested to my wife for her Birthday we would give it a try for a lunch time meal. The surroundings and garden are a delight. The restaurant is fairly small catering for perhaps 40 to 50 people but very pleasant. The menu for main meals is all on a blackboard and are fairly limited and are all priced at £17.00. The food is all set out for you to see and you then order your main food and is then served onto a hot plate by a waitress then you help yourselves to vegetables. This, in my opinion, is a brilliant idea, firstly you can see what you are getting and secondly you can control the quantity. I had an Aubergine Curry and rice with added vegetables, and my wife had a lamb shank. Both meals were excellent. As we were pretty full by the time we had finished with shared a sweet -again excellent. We will return

The Froize Inn for an evening meal is an excellent experience. We were greeted by cheery staff, not rushed to our table and enjoyed a drink in comfortable surroundings while viewing the menu. The starter range is great as is the mains and puddings, all food was served piping hot and well presented, the Mains buffet style menu must not be underestimated, they are beautifully prepared, substantial dishes with plenty of vegetables to accompany. Value for money....it certainly is.

My wife and I were in the area and happened upon this gem while searching for a place to stop for lunch. The pub itself is really nice and well cared for. There is a good range of beers for the non-driver to enjoy. As we had our dogs with us we sat outside on one of the benches behind the pub. We were served our food in the restaurant area before taking it outside. There was an excellent selection and I went for the curry while my wife had the lamb shank. It was quite simply wonderful food. Beautifully cooked and seasoned. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. We will return, and tell our friends to go there too!

If you want smashed avocado on sourdough with pea shoots and other unnecessary greenery then this cafe is not for you. But if you want the best quality full English, fresh unfussy honestly presented British and local food then you’re in the right place. Always a warm welcome, seriously tasty local food, simply cooked and unpretentiously presented. Today’s special were some seriously big juicy scallops which I had with my full English and they were an inspired combination and very popular. Thanks Sean for another outstanding breakfast. Keeping consistent standards like this is a real labour of love but it shines through in the food. Lovely breakfast and not an avocado in sight. PS a ‘greasy spoon’ this is not!

Authentic Pie, Mash n' liquor in Felixstowe - I popped in here after a couple of beers on the front - lovely pies, good old mash and proper liquor - knife, fork and spoon for the liquor, with vinegar, just like in London SE1 - interesting photos of England football stars and a bit of banter with the owner. All in all a great lunch and long may they thrive in Felixstowe.
