Authentic Pie, Mash n' liquor in Felixstowe - I popped in here after a couple of beers on the front - lovely pies, good old mash and proper liquor - knife, fork and spoon for the liquor, with vinegar, just like in London SE1 - interesting photos of England football stars and a bit of banter with the owner. All in all a great lunch and long may they thrive in Felixstowe.

I ordered from Sally Jane’s Pie, Mash, Liquor, Gravy and Bread Pudding. My daughter and I love the liquor, my other daughter and hubby prefer gravy, hence the mix. Living on the South Coast and Sally Jane’s being in Felixstowe, I can confirm that everything was delivered fresh, packed well, with ice bags where necessary and communication for delivery was excellent. Now to the flavour, I can honestly say, it was delicious. The pies and mash were tasty, and the liquor the best, authentic taste I’ve had for many years. The bread pudding was good too. I will definitely order from Sally Jane’s again. Excellent quality, excellent flavour and excellent communication, can’t ask for more than that!

!00% authentic pie and mash, faultless, I order by post and love it..If your a cockney you will love it, order by post take all the stress out of it, when you get it home, warm your pies up in the oven, micro wave the liquor, either but their mash or, as I prefer make your own, its fantastic!

I've been looking for proper, traditional pie and mash for years now; you can't find it anywhere in the Southwest, and this historic English classic seems to be all but dying out. Being a bit of a British food history buff, I was excited to find this place on my travels and try it out.I went down in the afternoon and couldn't tell if it was open or not; there was nothing obvious to suggest it was, bar a member of staff in kitchen clothing inside. I opened the door and had to ask if they were actually open or not. The place is cluttered inside as well, which is rather charming but also enforces the idea that they're not actually open. The only people that seemed to be in there were the young lad serving me and I think the proprietor, who was enjoying a meal herself at one of the tables. I ordered two pies, mash and liquor, and it was brought to me within a couple of minutes. The portion size was very decent; two minced beef pies, a big slap of mashed potato and an enormous quantity of 'liquor' (parsley sauce) - you'd think that it was perhaps sauce overkill, but I think this is traditionally 'correct', as with the mashed potato spooned onto the side. The pies themselves were pleasant and warming, and very simple - simply minced beef and gravy, I believe. The mashed potato was a bit bland, although I'm eager to state that this isn't a criticism, it's just straightforward - I don't think they put any additional ingredients like butter in, it seems to be simply mash. And the parsley sauce, which I believe is made with fish stock, was fairly 'simple' too; perhaps not quite as flavoursome as one would expect, but these three items on the plate make quite the combination of a rainy winter's day, and make for a decent lunch to both fill you and warm you up. There are condiments available to tart it up a bit - chilli and malt vinegar, salt and pepper - I'd recommend applying generously! I can't remember how much I paid for this, but it was cheap, very cheap - I thought how fantastic value for money this was, and how much of a shame it is that this kind of simple, honest fare isn't more available around the country - honest food for an honest price. I had hoped to try jellied eels but only realised they actually sold them here once I'd ordered; I will be making another visit and amending this. This was a great visit, and I'm really glad to see someone still running this kind of authentic, oldschool British eatery. You just don't see it anymore. I've been looking to eat this for many years and finally found it - the service was friendly enough, the prices fantastic, the decor charming and the food straightforward and good. I applaud the existence of this place and hope it sticks around!

Wow, bought a take away staff very friendly and pies etc cooked on site. The cafe was a little tied and could do with a refurb, putting that to one side don’t let that impact your opinion on the food which is great. The last time I had pie and mash was some 35 years ago, it tasted just like I remember. I shared the take away with my mother, being a spritly 83 yrs young. She recalled a number of stories about her experiences eating pie and mash, apparently during the war her family (mum, dad and sister) sleep each night in the elephant and castle tube station. When all sounded they used to make it down to the local pie and mash shop, where she and her sister were treated to mash and liquor. Only her dad and mum had the full deal of pie and mash, the food brought back memories of another age. I very much doubt such memories we be recalled when talking of a McDonald’s in the future.

Grabbed a quick lunch at the pie and mash shop. Quick and friendly service. The pie and mash was amazing, never had such a good pie. There aren’t many tables but since we went at a time that there weren’t many customers it wasn’t an issue.

Spent a couple of days in Felixstowe with my partner and popped into the Pie and Mash shop. We both ate it there but ordered takeaway for the next day to take back home with us. Really enjoyed it all, the liquor was really very tasty and the pies were full of meat.Having been brought up on this meal in the east end it was nearly on par with theold fashioned way. Will certainly pop in again to sample more and to take back home. Lovely.

I used Sally Janes for a home delivery as Valentines meal for my husband, however it never arrived. I contacted Sally Janes and there was a problem with the courier. They apologised and stated that I would receive a full refund, and yet here I am in April with no refund despite contacting again and being told that it had been issued it has not been received back into my bank. They are unwilling to look into why I have not received my refund as promised. A very poor experience, I have since used Manzes which was a lot better experience.

Lovely couple very friendly who run it and very clean. Anyone who misses this gem needs their head examined.

With my wife being a London girl, l thought l would take her here to check it out as Felixstowe is not too far from us.It is very small, almost like somebody's front room. The pies are made and cooked on site and they are tasty enough. My wife and l had the 'double, double', which is two pies and two mash, plenty enough.Probably will not be going back purely on the basis of it being so small with hardly any room between tables.I earned myself a few "brownie points" for taking my wife as she said the liquor with the pies and mash was how she remembered it.

Living in the west country jellied eels are impossible to come by. I found sally on eBay and ordered the kilo of eels, they arrived two days later, perfectly packed with extras of vinegar and chilli vinegar, a nice touch. The eels are amazing, beautiful taste and the chilli vinegar gives them an extra dimension. Will definitely be ordering more.

I visited on a Tuesday lunchtime, place was busy but not crowded. IT'S SMALL! Be prepared for that and to share your table. All the better for that, it's the East-end way.The pie and mash is authentic and very good and so's the liquor, pies are big and filling.Couldn't fault it, will for sure return when flying past Ipswich.

Ate there last week and was very impressed. We moved from London 10 years ago and have been looking for a good pie and mash shop ever since. In London we used to go to Manzis in Walthamstow. Sally Jane can give them a run for their money. The food was excellent and Sally and her hubby were great to. He had worked in pie and mash shops in London in the past, so he knew exactly what was expected.Next time you visit Felixstowe forget the fish and chips and visit Sally Janes.

My wife and I visited Sally Jane's upon recommendation from a friend and we weren't disappointed. They serve proper London pie n mash and jellied eels (not for me!). The pies are homemade and can be delivered anywhere in the country. My wife had traditional liquor with her meal whereas I stuck to gravy (which is not like Bisto! It has herbs in it and has a bit of a kick, really nice) and mushy peas, but we both really enjoyed the meal. We followed that with treacle pudding and custard and both left completely satisfied. Recommended, especially if you're fed up with the usual pub food, pizzas and fast food.

We were hungry and this place was recommended by a chap we met, walking his dog on the Promenade. We went in and had excellent pie and mash. Barely had room for ice cream but we made the effort. Loved the various combos that the pie and mash could be served too.We don't visit Felixstowe often. Hardly at all really but will certainly make an effort to visit again for the nicest pie and mash since my Gran was alive.

A lovely lunch at The Fox. After a walk round the newbourn springs nature reserve. We shared two starters, bao buns and nachos, banana fritters desert and it was plenty. Very tasty and quick. Excellent staff always attentive. A little bit warmer and we would have sat outside which we have done in the summer. Recommend unreservedly.

If you want smashed avocado on sourdough with pea shoots and other unnecessary greenery then this cafe is not for you. But if you want the best quality full English, fresh unfussy honestly presented British and local food then you’re in the right place. Always a warm welcome, seriously tasty local food, simply cooked and unpretentiously presented. Today’s special were some seriously big juicy scallops which I had with my full English and they were an inspired combination and very popular. Thanks Sean for another outstanding breakfast. Keeping consistent standards like this is a real labour of love but it shines through in the food. Lovely breakfast and not an avocado in sight. PS a ‘greasy spoon’ this is not!

We decided to pop in for a drink ,my partner went to the bar and I went to the toilet ,10 mins later my partner still at the bar not been acknowledged woman sat behind the bar not looking at him and what looked like the manager talking to some people ,fair enough if you can't serve say so or if your talking just say you will be a minute. They were so rude and ignorant maybe if we had been stuck up people he may have looked at us ,but we are just normal. One to avoid

The best sourdough bread we've tasted, ever! Chewy, crispy, delicious! This quality will be hard to beat. It's definitely worth a visit here if you're in the vicinity and we'll definitely be back, next time we're in - or near - lovely 'Fram'.
