The Friery in Barnsley

Excellent food and would definitely visit again. We ordered 2 kids cod bites meal deal and adults fish and chips and they were very tasty and freshly made to order. My fussy eater said her cod bites were that tasty she wants to eat them for breakfast, dinner and tea!

Regularly have the 'Light Bite', good sized portions and tastes fantastic. All cooked fresh to order but doesn't take long. Highly recommended.

This place is so good!!!!!! A chip shop in Barnsley with vegan options (and vegetarian), the vegan feast box is blooming brilliant, excellent value for money & cooked fresh to order! They also do pineapple fritters, which I’ve not had since I moved up north from the midlands... and you can’t beat a good pineapple fritter! Very friendly, great service. This is a fab little chippy. The food is always lovely and fresh. The service is great. There’s a great veggie menu too.

My local. Under new management for over a year now. Excellent fish,chips and also vegetarian and vegan options. Nothing too much trouble. My partner is suffering withdrawal symptoms due to lockdown but it's open again.

I visited here before they added the veggie range so I do need to go back and try some more of the delicious food. Last time I went I had chip butty and mushy peas - fabulous chips and very tasty peas. The chippy is a little bit hidden off the main road but well worth it when you find it. Very friendly staff.

My partner had fish and chips and said it was good, I had the veggie box which was SO nice - loved the 'chicken' nuggets and the mozzarella sticks. Will be back!

Went here for the first time today due to seeing it advertised as starting a vegan menu up, we had the vegan boxes which contains chips, 3 nuggets, battered sausage, a veg finger and a side of curry or peas etc for £5.00. The owner Alan assured us everything was cooked separately from non vegan products and he was really friendly, the food was really good and we will definitely be back.

I have been visiting this fab fish and chip shop since it was first opened by the current owners, and one thing that stands out is that the tastiness and quality of food and the welcome you get from Alan (the owner and cook) hasn't changed from day one. Unlike some places I have visited before including restaurants as well as takeaway shops where standards have slipped and the food suffers The Friery continues to deliver the most consistently delicious food at extremely reasonable prices. Alan is always very sociable and helpful and is happy to have a chat with you whenever you go in. The shop is ideally located for staff and visitors of Barnsley Hospital and I would actively encourage people to pop over the road and give it a go. Finally I just can't recommend this little gem of a chip shop enough, Fabulously tasty food at excellent prices served with a smile. What more can you ask for.

Visited here quite a few times now and its a great hidden gem. The owner is always there personally frying and serving which is great. Really good selection and the 'light bites' are a welcome touch when you want a smaller portion. Good quality ingredients and never greasy.

Visited The Friery a few times now for our meals. Had a selection off the menu and beautiful every time. Always a friendly face when you walk in whether they are busy or not. Everything cooked fresh while you wait so if your in a rush I recommend ringing ahead which we have also done several time.
