Lovely spot for a drink. The buildings steeped in history and an unreal cellar bar underneath that you just have to see. Shame about no food but they make up for it with the atmosphere!

We booked the upstairs function room for a retirement party for colleagues and were very impressed. The room was gorgeous with lots of natural light. Booking the room was easy and hassle free. The event was great and the two ladies we had upstairs were fantastic. They were completely on top of everything and nothing was too much trouble. We were spoiled with the food and everyone had a great time.

We made an unplanned visit y'day pm & v glad we did. There was a live music guitarist / singer & he was really good. The sort of music that everyone seems to know. Add to that the usual Fuller's excellent beer choices + some good rums (other spirits also available!) And, of course, the wonderful staff! Really great couple of hours, could happily have lingered longer.....!

Stumbled upon this pub during a crawl around Poole and so glad we did. We spent all friday evening and most of saturday in there, eating both days. Its a lovely pub with a roaring fire and great atmosphere. It has changed hands recently and is really on the up now and well worth a visit. Food was excellent (thanks Hannah), the homemade pies were very special as was the lasagne. None of us (10 in number) had a poor meal on either night. We stayed so long we drank all the London Pride.....and the HSB was struggling a bit as well... We will be back for another Royal Navy reunion next year.

Found this delightful pub after being disappointed by our usual venue. What a find, we booked in for dinner at short notice... (the chef makes outstanding home made pies and lasagne), 7 of us, and had a very warm welcome from Tony and Marie, food was brilliant, ( so much so we booked the next night whilst there ), service was exceptional. Great pub... off the beaten track, but most of the great places are. This is a must visit for a friendly drink and great food.

Been down to Poole a few times and thought we would try a different pub and came across the Blue Boar which had a lovely fire going and made you feel cosy and warm. The Staff were so friendly and welcoming that we went back the second night for more of their great hospitality. I would highly recommend the food made by Hannah, it was so good that we cleared them out of their pies they were that good. We will definitely be going back in there on our next visit.

Wow! We were at a wedding reception and loved every minute of our time at The Blue Boar. The welcome was great and they served us all (probably around 50+ guests) with ease and speed. The food was excellent, every course came to the right guest and ran in order down the tables. There was no 'who ordered the beef?!' So impressed! The staff were incredible and polite and fun and ALWAYS had a smile for us. A huge 10/10 from us. You certainly helped to create a wonderful wedding reception for our friends.

What a find! An outstanding pub with really decent pub grub. My old mum had fish and chips, which has always been her favourite, and she loved it - not a bad recommendation from an 85-year old! I had the Blue Boar burger which was stacked and cooked to perfection but when I saw my daughter’s home cooked chicken and mushroom pie I suddenly had food envy! The pie was amazing - I had to have a taste!!! Beer is kept really well and they serve a lovely pint of Fuller’s Pride. Amazing selection of wines and not stupidly priced. Overall well worth a five star review

I have the merchant celibate for 22 people but on arrival was told it was flooded so was sat upstairs in the main bar although it was stinky(sewage) we were pretty much the only people in the place the whole night so that was great but unfortunately the staff were not so great drinks were taking a long time the boards were brought out with no crackers only bread after asking numerous times for crackers we had finished our cheeseboard by the time they come, my sister has an allergy and I asked two different members of staff on two different occasions to find out if anything has nuts in and none of them come back to me therefore my sister ended up eating bread and cheddar… at the end they miscalculated the bill on many occasions and we were nearly overcharged £70 luckily enough I wasn’t drunk so I realised and managed to reason with the manager and meet me halfway at £40 still over what we should of paid, but with that many people we just wanted to get out the place! Overall it was a bit expensive We paid £15 per person for 4 cheese and meats boards with a bread basket (see attached photo) £330 seems a bit much for cheese and meat but it was ok! And filled the hole, won’t be rushing back any time soon

We met some friends there early eve yesterday for drinks outside. The service was fine at first, we only stayed for 2 drinks. Two of our party (there was 5 of us) stood to leave and the bar man came out to collect glasses and told them to sit down, they were literally just saying goodbye to the rest of us. The way he spoke to them was terrible, he told them to get off the pavement (I am not sure the Boar own the pavement) so they literally stood in the road to say goodbye. I told the guy that his delivery and tone of voice was out of order. He basically told me he didn't care. I get there are covid rules in place but how the hell is somebody meant to leave a place if they cant stand up from the table. He was a disgrace (and that's putting it as nice as I can). This used to be a great place to drink and eat. We won't be going back whilst he works there, so many other lovely people in hospitality out of work too.

The Blue Boar has been a favourite haunt for me and my partner over the last few years whenever we have visited Poole. We very much enjoyed the down to earth local feel of the place and so it was disappointing when the original owner sold up and the atmosphere and quality of food and service plummeted. So it was with some trepidation that when we saw it had reopened ‘under new management’ that we decided to give it a try. The first thing to say is that it has received a much needed makeover. It now presents as clean and spacious. As opposed to the last incumbent, the welcome from the new team was fantastic. You certainly didn’t feel like you were being tolerated as had been the case pre this change. On our first visit we had the cheese/bacon/ onion chutney on 2 slices of tiger bread and a serving of triple cooked chips. This was delicious, and far more filling than I would have expected. We decided to return for an evening meal the following day. We had fortunately booked a table as the place was full. My partner had the tempura veg and I went for the burger. The tempura veg was ‘nice’ but my partner felt it was a little on the greasy side. My burger was very well cooked and tasty and I would certainly have it again. I have included a picture of the menu, and you will see that they have decided to concentrate on a smaller number of dishes. I can appreciate this, but I would say that we heard a couple of tables comment on a bit of a lack of choice and we felt there was some opportunity to expand the menu slightly without having to offer an almost inexhaustible number of options. I didn’t notice any ‘specials’, and we felt this is an option that might want to be explored as the new team starts to find its feet. However, we are certainly very pleased that the new team is in place. The service was friendly and very professional !We would certainly recommend giving this venue a try. It’s only a couple of minutes walk from the quay and we’ll worth the trip.

If you are considering doing a pub crawl around Poole then do not miss a visit to here. This ex-military Fuller's pub is tucked away behind the quayside but is not hard to get to. If you take Hill Street (off Poole High Street), past the multi - storey car park then the Blue Boar will be straight in front of you.The pub is clean and quite bizarre due to its large collection of military memorabilia on display (including a Bren rifle hanging from the celling!!!). Although we did not eat in the restaurant here, the pub is great for ale - London Pride tasted nice and refreshing on tap. The staff and locals, including Gypsy (the pub's dog) are friendly too!

We were welcomed from the moment we stepped inside, we order drinks and then sat for the next few hours reading papers and generally relaxing. the papers were provided by the pub and the atmosphere was so welcoming it was hard to leave. We didn't try any of the food this time but will definitely be going back what we saw coming our of the kitchen looked amazing and very reasonably prices.

A great pub in a lovely area of Poole. Eaay to park nearby. Was able to change rice for salad on a meal. Friendly staff, it was a chilly day and the fires were lit making it very welcoming.

Not much to say except not a lot of space down there. The drinks are priced well and the atmosphere is unique.

A good old traditional pub that is family friendly and serves excellent food and quality ales. Very friendly service and a pub full of character and memorabilia. Looks like the Sausage and Cider festival over Easter could be worth a try!

I have been a fairly frequent visitor to this pub and had nothing but praise for the food and atmosphere and have recommended this place to loads of people however on my last visit with family visiting I was really very disappointed. We ordered our meals and was not impressed with the amount or quality of food given to us. Some of our party had two small very thin slices of roast pork for there roast dinner with roast potatoes that were not at all crispy, the other vegetables were nice however really not enough one floret of cauliflower and broccoli each and two chunky bits of carrot per person is really scrimping. The yorkie was almost flat and burnt around the edges. We got overcharged as well. With so many places offering food I would advise anyone to maybe eat elsewhere and unfortunately we wont be returning.

This is an unusual pub with all sorts of military items...including articles, pics on the wall etc. Open fire in the winter, cellar restaurant serving great food. Good for meeting up for a drink with friends or going for a quiet meal.

Lovely staff and fun evening at the Blue Boar Murder Mystery night. I had chosen a starter of classic prawn cocktai, which was very nice and not difficult to serve. It looked attractive on the plate and was a good sized portion. My main was described on the menu as Prime Grilled Chicken Breast with a spicy tomato and cream sauce accompanied by gourmet chunky chips. Unfortunately this was, disappointingly, probably the worst main course I've had all year (I eat out 2-3 times per week). The prime chicken breast appeared to be a slice of chicken breast that I suspect had been previously frozen. It was smothered in a processed sauce which resembled tomato soup and this sauce absolutely swamped the plate. The "gourmet chunky chips" were obviously frozen mccain/supermarket chips and there was nothing gourmet or chunky about them. There were no vegetables and the plate could have really benefitted from some green! Credit where credit is due though, my friends had ordered the lamb shank and the sweet potato & chickpea curry, and both were deemed as excellent, so not all the food was disappointing.Wtih regard to dessert, this was perfectly acceptable and we all enjoyed our puds. However the Brownie dessert, which most of us had selected, was billed as coming with raspberry compote and this was missing.A nice pub with a good atmosphere and welcoming staff. I just wouldn't eat here again.

Great pub and have visited on many occasions. Unfortunately a new change the TV's showing rugby are on MUTE or turned down very low (in-audible) until the actual players enter the pitch. The build up to the game is completely lost. Atmosphere totally gone, shall not be returning, with a few others I'm sure. So sad.

Visited this pub to watch the England v France rugby match as we were in the area. The pub was packed as we expected, but it is not really condusive to watching sport as the bar takes up most of the room in the pub. There were several screens showing the rugby but none we could see properly. The regulars in there are not friendly at all and we were made to feel very unwelcome. We shan't be returning.

We wanted Pina Poke take away, we were prepared to collect but they only do delivery which was great, less than half an hour and the food was great. Had a salmon meal and the fresh fish was gorgeous

Disclaimer. I have never been to this museum. I've been to Poole many times in the past but not for a few decades. So why am I posting a review? See the attached image which appeared on Reddit today and I'm doing my best to distribute the awesome wholesomeness this museum promotes. When I do go to Poole next, this museum will be my first port of call.
