Love it here, go most days with mates to sort out the country

Popped in for drinks whilst walking into town. Good choice of ales and the staff were welcoming. Mainly local clientelle but all were friendly.

Booked a meal for 4, so we could watch the 6 Nations game Scotland v England, the meals were excellent and very fairly priced, good atmosphere and very friendly bar staff. Will definitely be going there again. The only down side was.....England lost.

Very disappointed. My husband had the mixed grill. The steak was inedible as it was so fatty. The sausages weren't cooked properly and were only tepid. Not enough light to tell what colour they were. The plates weren't cleared until they were bringing the dessert. We told the waitress about the steak. She said she would tell the chef, no apology, nothing! My steak was fine. The desserts were ok but not as described on the menu.

We are staying at the travel lodge and wanted somewhere to go for a drink, food and watch the footy. What a great place, staff very friendly and I have to say it is the best bar food I have had in a long rime. I would highly recommend.

Absolutely perfect experience from start to finish, the food was incredible! Went here for a celebratory meal after graduation and I couldn't have asked for more, no complaints from anyone and we all had different meals.

Just popped in with friends for a meal and a drink before the theatre, nice people, nice place, great food, and lots of it. To top it all, Newcastle won .Poole has got a healthy support for sport. Thanks to the staff.

I've only just stumbled across this pub whilst shopping,and would highly recommend rather than trying to find out how pathetic the weatherspoons is for service and very poor table service

We were staying a little "out of town" and walking in, stopped at The George. Impression from outside was misleading, it's a nice "proper pub" inside. More local than tourist, except when shows are on at The Lighthouse, but very welcoming. The menu and food we saw was very tempting, so next time..... Total Madness were on later but we had ongoing plans so could only stay for one drink. Next time.....

came in with a group of friends and we were all delighted with the food. It was all very tasty, hot and well presented. The staff were friendly and helpful and we were served quickly. Would highly recommend to anyone that wants to go out for a traditional pub grub

Parked in the lorry park overnight and found this place. Could not believe it was only £3 for a pint of calsberg. I had the special deal for a wedesday beef madras and a pint for £9.50 was really nice as well. Would defo go back if am in the area.

We came in for dinner with friends had burgers and nachos. The food was great I would highly recommend the ultimate chicken burger. Staff were really pleasant and efficient. Large car park out the back so really convenient if you are driving

Got sent up from plymouth to the nicu maternity ward as our baby was born at 30 weeks and they had no space in our home town. Didn't know the area or where anything was so we went to the closest place which was the George Hotel. They were very friendly and the food was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend. :)

Good for a quick meal. Beer was ok

No airs and graces just good honest beer and good value food. On a busy roundabout but has pay parking at rear but the pub will refund (read their board to see term).

I came in to watch the match fantastic picture and sound. Decided to try their burger and a pint deal the ultimate beef burger and a pint of San Miguel was only £10.95. The burger was delicious and fully loaded good pint of San Miguel. Staff were really friendly and efficient pub was clean and tidy. Good atmosphere for the football. It’s a Bonus that they have a large car park at the back of the pub that you can use for free as long as you register behind the bar. I will definitely be back and will recommend.

Not the best pub, but a pub is a dying thing these days. Gratefull for it being there but it could do with some help and tlc.

Haven't been to the George for a good few years but must say the staff and food was excellent. Husband says the mixed grill was one of the best he's had and being a fussy eater that's saying something. Anyone looking for good food this is the place to visit. Will definitely come again soon

We are staying in the area for work and this is the 2nd time in the pub. The service is always great the pub is clean and always smells fresh. First time I came had the hunters chicken which was cooked really well this time I tried the pie and I wasn’t disappointed. Lots of TVs for the football and can play darts which makes a change as not many pubs have dart boards now.

Told by regular they don't allow children before we'd taken 2 steps in the door, not sure if thats the case but we had to leave

Fantastic pub staff are always very friendly and helpful. Great for sport as they show more than one sport at a time and the burgers are outstanding. Would highly recommend the chilli burger it was top notch love this local friendly pub. Always good entertainment as well

The pub we used got new stupid management and so we needed another. We decided to try the George because it had a big car park and we usually had a boat on tow. Went to talk to them first as the kids were about 10. 'If they play up Ill throw them out'. I said 'Only if I dont throw them out first'. Usually arrived dripping wet always sat at the same table. Drank coke and tea. Landlord a bear of a man. Sings Christmas carols starting in July. Favourite word - bargain. Bar staff, Grace Ali and Tash. Professional courteous graceful All round beautiful people, Then there is Mrs Landlady. Beautiful people too but she cooks! Discovered Cowboy burgers, chicken tikka, soup, gammon, mixed grill, bangers and mash, fried breakfasts, roast dinner...Ive probably had more but forgot. Only once did we have a problem with a meal. It was immediately dealt with and we have never complained again. Mrs landlady has literally adjusted each and every meal for each of us! Just how we like them. She literally asks whos having what meal and does it with no fuss. Incredible. They seem to specialise in watching football. Not my thing, but they obliged when I asked to see the Dakar. Live music is usually good. Spent many hour listening to bands in there. Only iffy bit is the toilets. The urinals are set for 8 foot tall people, so wellies... Never had a crossed word or raised voices - except 'BARGAIN!' I suppose the three of us have been here about three times a week on average for the past thirteen or so years. One of the best things thats happened to us over the years was to find this pub and its staff.

Proper locals pub great for sport and, decent beers. Never eaten here, as drop in for a pint on way home after work.

Great food, great atmosphere and lovly staff will highly recommend going there just had a chicken burger and was probably one of the burgers around nice price also if ur looking for a nice chillied place to have a drink Nd food then this is the place to be 😊

Saturday afternoon ordered a steak and chips. Got a full plate that was also hot, not like whetherspoon where everything is luke warm or half cold. Big screen entertainment, recommended.

First visit to the pub and I have to say what a lovely pub this is. The staff were really helpful and friendly. We tried the rump steak and it was cooked to perfection. The plates were warm which makes a nice change. My husband tried the wainwright which was really good quality. The atmosphere of the pub was lovely with the music being at the right level to still be able to talk. We will definitely be back to this lovely traditional pub

My daughter went there and got a parking ticket, it was dark, wet, badly lit and not very safe for a young girl on her own, very poor lighting on signage be warned. At night parking fines are not needed,

It's not a great start when you have to pay to park in the pub carpark especially when it's cold, dark and/or raining. Very much a local's haunt as felt very cliquey upon entering. A rather perplexing mystery is the big children's sweets machine which has main prominence at the bar to which the lady barmaid then informed us they don't allow children? So what's the point of the machine I wonder? We then left in disgust. I would have thought in this day and age and particularly due to the pubs location that they would be doing everything to encourage custom, not put people off. Is this a deliberate cynical ploy because the pub sits on a prime development plot? I hope not. One can only guess? Time will tell.

Been staying her for few weeks and food is delicious and beer is nice and good price definitely recommend this place.

Just of the ferry so finding somewhere to stay was impossible due to the Queens funeral. A great place to gather our senses,before we moved on,The proper English pub.

Friendly service from Ali behind the bar. The building exterior has recently had a spruce up but why oh why have the toilets not been replaced and decorated. This really lets the pub down and from experience puts people off eating.

Brilliant place, proper local. Everyone was really welcoming and really friendly. Even put on the sport I wanted to watch.

I had the chicken curry What can I say. The curry was very watery. The poppadum was greasy. The naan bread was hard as rock. And the mango chutney was on ration. When we mentioned it all she said was "yeah" Would not eat hear again

Called in here for drinks after being at the Lighthouse and I had a beer (Palmers IPA) but when served it was cloudy and tasted off. So I said to the young barmaid that I think that this is off. She referred it to an older guy on a barstool on the patron side of the bar who shouted out loud (it was busy) that you don’t know your beer mate. Anyway, I was given another beer that wasn’t to my taste so I politely took a few gulps and left it. I do know my beers having a lifetime membership of CAMRA since being a student many years ago. Never, ever have I received such a rude dismissal in public in all the years of tasting beer ( notwithstanding being a paying customer). It’s a no brainier that I shall not return to this establishment - Marstons can do better, surely?

First time visit to this lively pub, with a great atmosphere. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. We will definitely return for another visit soon. 😊

Popped in for a swift pint with my son. It really didn't taste great so we left it. Would normally raise issues at the time to allow establishments to resolve but was in a hurry and it was busy.

Very friendly staff. Drinks are at a reasonable price. Good typical selection of pub food and reasonable priced. Toilets were clean. This is not an up-market pub so not somewhere to take your partner if you wish to impress. Having said that it is clean and tidy. Empty glasses left on tables are cleared regularly. If your into sport they have plenty of TV's so can watch them from almost anywhere you sit. I go weekly and meet up with my friends for Saturday afternoon match.
