This place was refurbished in 2022, with no great improvement, and the menu was changed badly with prices also increased. We feel sorry for all the staff especially Mark who we got to know as he served us a lot. We are not surprised it has closed but the owners brought it on them selves by ruining the atmosphere and spoiling the food.

Lovely meal on a Saturday afternoon. Very friendly server who made sure we had exactly what we needed. Delicious prawn linguine dish the highlight for me but my kids loved the minute steak and chips too. Very clean surroundings with a nice ambiance. Parking not especially ample but overall a great little find close to the coast.

Only had breakfast but the food was spot on both days. The gent serving on Saturday was a delight 👏

We went for our Christmas meal and the restaurant was very Christmassy. It was quiet and I wouldn’t say there was a great atmosphere in the bar/ restaurant itself. It seemed a bit stale. The beers they had were nice even though I had not heard of some of them, sadly no Fosters. The food was very tasty and well presented but not out of this world. It’s a place I wouldn’t visit again.

Possibly the smallest scallops I have ever seen for starter. It was difficult to distinguish them from the cous cous. The cauliflower Thai curry had the cauliflower separate to the green curry rather than cooked in it so you had to dip the plain cauliflower in the curry sauce. Certainly not what I was expecting

Try the fish and chips, honestly the best you can find around, the tartar sauce is freshly made with fresh scallion bits. Service is attentive and not intrusive. Love the soundtrack as well. Highly recommended. Went on a diet Sunday night and we had the room for ourselves.

Fantastic place for breakfast. The restaurant looks great and the service is efficient and very friendly. We will come back to try more food and will recommend the family to stay here when visiting.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was not good. My new potatoes were hard. My partners Venison had to be sent back as the vegetables were cold. The custard on the desert was cold. Shame, as previous visit had been good

I normally make reviews of places that I have enjoyed. Last night was to have been a special dinner. I had checked the menu online and assumed that the price of the meal would have been reflected in the quality of the food and service. Don't get me wrong; I don't mind paying for good food and service, but didn't receive either. I arrived at The Achorage for a 7pm meal. It was obvious that the restaurant was short-staffed as it took at least two minutes for someone to greet us. When we were seated we were told that many of the choices that we wish to have ordered were unavailable. Not something you would expect from a restaurant with such a high rating. We ordered a cote de boeuf for two. Luckily we got the last order of this entree. As a surgeon I think I know my way around a piece of beef. To say that this overpriced piece of meat was difficult to cut and chew is an understatement. To pay 7 pounds for skin-on french fries , which were actually heated from frozen and the skin was not on, is a ridiculous amount to pay for something that would have cost the kitchen a minor fraction of this amount. The jumbo shrimp were anything but jumbo. The dessert was bland. I was very disappointed with the whole experience. I would definitely not recommend this establishment.

Wish it had improved from when it first changed to the Anchorage. Sadly not really, seemed to lack staff, even with only a handful of tables seated. The food was ok, still needs to improve to be enjoyable and, even to be close to the local competitors, i guess thats why they are fully booked and, the Anchorage has plenty of empty tables… its a shame, it has so much potential.

There is great lack in atmosphere at this restaurant. The interior is cold with an uncomfortable silence. We dined as a family of four for Sunday lunch. The roast dinners for the children are the size of adult portions so the majority of the food went to waste. During our meal, we were told by the waiter that he had received complaints about our four year daughter crying. This made us feel very uncomfortable and for what is supposed to be a family friendly restaurant, we felt this was totally unacceptable especially as she had cried momentarily. Our children were well behaved the whole time and anyone that has or ever had young children, it is never easy keeping them occupied and silent throughout the meal! It’s easy to see by all the empty tables that this is not a popular place at all. Those looking for a family friendly place to eat would better choose an alternative restaurant.

Staff friendly and helpfull. Almost empty Tues eve so lacked atmosphere but we made our own. The whole sole was tasteless and mushy. Other mains also lacked flavour.Very slow service considering place was nearly empty.

Beautiful breakfast with lovely staff

Fantastic food, none of us could fault our meals. We had fish & chips, burger, malt chicken and Thai veggie curry. All were absolutely delicious. We went for dinner on a Tuesday night, we were by the bar as we had our dog with us. It was quiet so there wasn’t much of an atmosphere but nevertheless it was a great meal. We will definitely be back when we’re next in the area

With out a doubt my favourite restaurant. The first time we tried the Anchorage we were back 2 days later as we were so impressed. The food is incredible, the staff are so lovely and cater to each tables needs before you even realise you need something. Just a perfect experience and is now a go to whenever friends or family want to go out for a meal. Also fab is they offer 25% off after each visit so if you go back in 4 weeks you get a discount!

Popped in here today off the cuff after a horrendous experience by the beach In Brancksome and I have to say it was 1st class. Great staff, positive, immediate friendly service, great beer, hot delicious food. The difference of having great people front of house makes the experience so much more worthwhile. Stopped here for an unplanned lunch. Beautiful restaurant and lovely, friendly and attentive staff. There were two menu options, you could eat from the set menu, with a two course costing £20, which I what we opted for, they had good choices on there from their al a carte menu, and they also had a specials menu. The service was brilliant, and you were given a nice bit of time between your courses. My starter was the chicken liver parfait, and it was full of flavour, and for myself the best I have tasted. Where the restaurant is situated you then have the option to pop down to sandbanks or branksome chine for a nice post lunch walk. Will definately be going back.

I can highly recommend this restaurant, beautiful service and food throughout. Greeted on arrival, nothing was to much trouble if you wanted to deviate from the menu a little. Upon leaving all the staff said goodbye as we walked to the exit. Good old fashioned service and staff who seem very happy to work there.

The service was quick and super friendly but the food let it down. As it was a Sunday, we had the roast based on staff recommendation. I had the roast chicken, it lacked flavour and the meat was dry. The potatoes were lovely and crispy but soaked underneath by the red cabbage it was sitting on. The carrots were also limp and soggy underneath. It had clearly been sat under the heat for a while and makes sense why it came out so quickly. I thought I would give this place a try as a local but won’t be coming back as there’s much better restaurants in the area.

I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. Despite the positive reviews about it being dog-friendly, it was far from it. Even though the place was completely empty, they seated us at a table right next to the entrance door. Our dog is a small and friendly King Charles, so this wasn't ideal. After we were seated, the waitstaff left the menu and never returned. We tried calling the waiters multiple times, but they kept brushing us off with a vague "one moment" response. To make matters worse, I'm seven months pregnant, and their attitude and behavior were both disrespectful and unacceptable. If you're considering dining here, I strongly urge you to think twice. Our experience left a lot to be desired, and I wouldn't recommend giving this place another chance.

Had a family dinner here a few weeks ago. Our server was very attentive.we had a baby with us and a high chair was provided. Very accommodating.Ithere was a vegan and a ceoliac in the group who were also accommodated.. I had king prawn linguine Good size portion and tasty.. worth a visit

Beautiful pub inside, outside was poor with the front area practically inaccessible unless you're thin as a rake. Food looked incredible but we didnt eat, drinks range was vast but bespoke, could really do with a more staple set of products, service behind the bar was friendly and knowledgeable. Worth a visit for sure, but can't compete with the Canford round the corner if on a drinking visit, food wise though looks superb.

Food was tasty when it arrived but it took an age.

The wait time was long and the food wasn't tasty: the burgers were dry, the cheese tasted weird, and the soft shell crabs were tiny. The only thing worth eating is the fries that come with the burger, which is okay. Overall, I don’t recommend it at all!

Unfortunately our experience this evening was very disappointing. Upon booking our reservation we made the restaurant aware it was our 10yr wedding anniversary and it was a special occasion. When we arrived at 7.30 on the dot we waited 5 mins at the host stand before being acknowledged by a gentleman who was unfriendly and looked like he would rather be anywhere else but at work, we were then told our table wasn’t ready. Once seated we were given menu but the gentleman walked straight off when I was asking for the cocktail menu. 15 mins after being seated we were asked what drinks we wanted and I asked for the cocktail menu, we then waited a further 15 mins before ordering our drinks and our food at the same time. Our starters arrived before our drinks and we finished our starters before the drinks even arrived , 45 mins it took to get 2 drinks. Not once we’re we asked if everything was ok and the staff all looked miserable. The chef even delivered our main course! The food was delicious and no complaints about that at all. Sad to say we won’t be visiting again and what was meant to be a special occasion for us was ruined.

Food was good and service was excellent. Drinks very expensive and sadly service charge at 12.5% which I thought was alot plus I'm old fashioned and like to give a tip of my choosing to the staff who serve me. Sadly doubt come again due to cost.

I took my 2 children on holiday and stayed at this wonderful place! The room was lovely first and foremost which due to English weather we spent more time in than I would have liked! However, the staff and the service we received was honestly the best I’ve ever had! Christina the GM was there to welcome us when we arrived, Charlotte looked after us so well every evening when we came down for dinner. Me and 2 young children is never easy to entertain or relax, but they made it so easy, gave them things to colour etc and basically realised it was my holiday too! Every morning we were greeted by the lovely Vida who is truly an asset to the hotel too, not only was the breakfast delicious every day but she went above and beyond in making it special for us all! I normally have a ‘but’, however I honestly cannot fault this place, everything was so perfect and it made our holiday. We cannot wait to come back! Imagine the review if the weather had been nice! Table for four please ! Out with friends for dinner as we liked the look of the menu … some interesting choices . Positives - good service with friendly helpful staff . Interesting options like soft shell crab burger ( which was yum ! ) Not too pricy Negatives - the start portions for the white air and tiger prawns was “merge” the white bait had no spice to it despite being “Devilled” Soft shell crab burgers were great but could have had some of the slaw on the side ? Just something else to dress the plate Beef dripping chips under whelmed …. Didn’t taste any different … So a four out of five Staff were great . One of us didn’t like the fish and chips and it was changed without any hassle , and that was impressive . Would have been a three if not for that .

I was a lone diner that's why 4 stars for atmosphere! The chef is on top form, I ate like a Queen. Cray fish and prawn salad starter was tasty and went down well main was excellent and the staff were told so! It was Halibut creamed potatoes and spinach went down a treat Highly recommend xxxxx🦋

Family restaurant I've been looking for. 👍 Booked a late Father's day lunch for 5 people. The elegantly finished restaurant was not busy, but diners and drinkers made for a nice pre-dinner atmosphere. The 3 kids ordered off one of the most imaginative children's menu I've seen in years. 🧒 Our 3 are pretty foodie, but there's nothing there to scare fickle eaters; a a good sized and well cooked steak, turkey Meatballs with a teriyaki sauce that comes on the side, and lovely puddings. Our starter of prawn and lobster came with a shrimp 🦐 the size of your forearm, and the seabass and salmon mains were excellent. The staff were friendly without being obtrusive. Had we been without kids, we might have enjoyed a degastif at the inviting bar. The final bill was very reasonable, having taken advantage of the 2 courses for £24.

Had dinner here and it was AMAZING!!! the food was great and the two members of staff I saw were the best ever. Charlotte was so nice but the real star was Ruben, he made the whole evening for me. Service was slow, food was dire (burger dry, chicken chewy, hake was dry and tasted old). Restaurant was overall expensive with £50 service charge added.

We chose to have lunch at this restaurant for our 40th anniversary. It was a sunny day, although a little windy, so we sat outside, overlooking...the car park. The view may have been uninspiring, but the menu was inspired. There was plenty of choice and some good special dishes of the day. Mark, our waiter was friendly, prompt and polite, a very good combination! The wine list was extensive with one of our favourites, so we were happy. The food was of very good quality, well prepared, seasoned and simply plated. I asked for a slight adjustment to one of the dessert options and this was possible and nicely done. Before we left I went inside and was struck by how jaded the decor was. The restaurant is very large with a large bar but very uninspiring. I was surprised because it was such a contrast with the menu. I hope the service and food is as good when it is full.

Food was good but service was very slow.only two staff apparently in the restaurant.had to be assertive to get our bill and had to summon another staff to actually pay! New to area but we expect better service so definitely not returning!

Much preferred the place under its former identity, Loch Fyne. On the plus side several of the excellent waiting staff have been retained and same goes for the kitchen staff. If I hadn't been so fond of Loch Fyne, maybe I would be more enthusiastic about The Anchorage, which is still a good restaurant but there's much I miss about the old place. Seems bizarre that Greene King would want to change a winning formula.

A great meal at The Anchorage this evening. The restaurant has been beautifully refurbished. The menu is interesting and each course was delicious. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were reasonable.

Good choice on the menu, however found the food average it was okay had fish and chips, in all fairness I have had better. Toffee apple sundae was ice cream in a puddle of a caramel with some chopped cooked apple, it wasn't very nice or appetising. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly but, unfortunately the food didn't live up to what our party of 3 was expecting.

Really Lovely seafood restaurant, great location, very sad that it will no longer be a loch fyne restaurant in November after refurbishment, always my first point of call when I come to Bournemouth, I hope it retains the seafood aspect when it re opens, I feel quite sad at losing another loch fyne

It's always a pleasure to return to this restaurant, we first came here last year and every time we've been to Bournemouth since then it's been our regular stop. Good service, delicious food and a nice place. we will always return.

Made to feel welcome on arrival, shown to our table and informed who our server was to be. Within seconds he arrived and asked us if we would like drinks we ordered wine and fizz water. Placed our food order 5 mins later. Our starters arrived Scallops £12 and Mackerel £7.00 all very nice. Two of us chose Crab £20.00 for main course and it was beautifully served the other chose the King Prawns which were £30, ar first I thought that's expensive but they were huge. Our choice of Chenin Blanc from South Africa was a good choice at £26. We declined desserts as we were all full. Service was excellent throughout our meal from a great team. We certainly recommend this place!

We had the most lovely evening ☺️ The food was delicious and our seafood and steak was cooked to perfection. My partner ordered a Tuna Steak as an extra because he was enjoying his main so much and it was absolutely delicious. The chef even came out to meet him as he wanted to thank him for the lovely meal. Our waiter was amazing and very attentive to everything we needed. We can't wait to come again. Thank you for a lovely night 🤗

These are usually excellent restaurants. This place was dirty, the floor was filthy and the windows hadn't been cleaned and the late low sun shining through exacerbated the problem. Service was good, the staff were very pleasant. However, whoever thinks that 2 prawns and 2 scollops are worth £14 and that Surf & Turf comprises steak and 2 prawns needs a reset on the thinking of value for money. We discovered at the end of the evening that the place was closing as a Loch Fyne restaurant and reopening as a gastronpub. A shame as Loch Fyne was one of my favorites.

Loch Fyne is part of a chain of restaurants mainly seen in the southern part of the country. We thought from the name that it must have some Scottish seafood influence. The menu we saw online looked good and there was plenty of choice, it just was rather expensive. We got there early and were seated straight away. It wasn't busy when we got there, however our waiter Paul forgot to start with our drinks order, we were never shown a drinks menu, so we only received water for the table. He also was unsure with all the questions we asked, as he said brandade was just a paste that had no meat in, and when we Googled it afterwards it says it's a sauce consisting of salt cod oil and potatoes. He also kept repeating having to churn the fish pie, I must have heard it about 4 times. For starters we had the scallops which were a bit bland and the soup which only tasted of tomatoes when really it should be a fish soup. For mains we got the fish pie which was quite a large portion. There was lots of seafood in it but I found it very salty and some of the salmon was very hard and chewy. We also got the meagre fillet where the okra was not cooked at all, and the seafood risotto where the samphire was gritty and stringy. For dessert we had the chocolate tart which was a tiny portion for the price and the mascarpone was bland, it could have done with some orange flavour through it. Overall we didn't have a brilliant time here, food was ok but not to the standard of the Scottish seafood we were hoping for. Very expensive for what was given and service could be better.

Any charge you would like to added to the bill must be clearly disclosed to consumers BEFORE they order food. The way you add service charge is not standard.

Been here a couple of times, the food is excellent, staff are lovely. Unfortunately they had staffing issues the day we went again, and it was a reduced menu. However the pizzas were as good as any pizza restaurant .. we will be back..

No fault to be found at all here. Lovely clean, modern, spacious relaxed ambience. All staff are very polite, smart, professional and efficient. Kitchens are visible with happy, efficient chefs. Food is beautiful, very tasty and super filling. Good menu selection and specials. We enjoyed everything and we're looking forward to.our next visit. Parking is tight so you may have to park in local side roads. Highly recommended a visit. Thank you team Loch Fyne, great job.

Firstly, there is limited parking so that's something to consider before you go. Overall, the venue was lovely and clean and the staff couldn't do more to explain the menu with great attention to detail! The food was great and I liked the option of adding the different butters on top of fresh fish.

We made a booking for four, and put in the notes that it was for a birthday. The staff were excellent, even though we arrived early they ensure that we were served drinks in the bar and they brought a birthday champagne for the Mrs. Dinner service was prompt and the fish was cooked perfectly. Plates were cleared efficiently, and they checked on us throughout. This made for a very successful birthday dinner!

Disappointing experience. Used to be one of our favourite places to eat. Had grilled seafood and one of their surf n turf specials which were served lukewarm and the seafood was not fresh. The fish soup starter was watered down. They’ve done better than this. Bring back the old days pre-covid please!
