Great food ,sat inside and ate our food in the warm ..loved it

Very busy fish and Chip shop and restaurant on the main thoroughfare through Cirencester. Presumed it was only takeaway on an early Saturday evening slot but very helpful management opened up the dining area for us and soon three other families were sitting down to eat as well. We had our meal straight from the carton, rather than plated, because of the demand for take-out, but this enhanced our experience rather than detracting from it. Outstanding quality Haddock, and at a very reasonable price. Glad we made the choice to go to this end of the High Street. Top quality and exceptional value.

Should advertise not to bother after 830 as staff want to go home!!!!

Went there for the first time today with family, was greeted by lovely staff Emma, Liz and Tom. Great food, great food, great price. We heard it was Emma’s birthday, so happy birthday to you!

Best fish and chips in Gloucestershire. Pips Simpsons to the post in both quality and price! Being able to dine in is also a plus, lovely staff.

It was my first time visiting Cirencester, and I’m not sure how I ended up at this Fish & Chips shop, but I’m so glad I did. I had the best Fish & Chips of my life—cooked and seasoned to perfection. The lady who served the food was incredibly kind and friendly. I highly recommend Friar Tuck Fish Bar

Two weeks ago I ate at the Black & White fish restaurant in Gloucester. I had Scampi Chips and Peas with a can of drink and the bill was £25 including a couple of pounds tip. It was excellent and everything spotlessly clean. Yesterday I ate at the Friar Tuck in Cirencester and had the same meal and drink. It was very good and only cost £15 including a tip. The glass I had for my drink in Gloucester was gleaming - Cirencester was dirty. The toilets in Gloucester gleaming - Cirencester not. The cruets, vinegar and everything else in Gloucester gleaming Cirencester not so The owner lady in Cirencester can fry and fry as well as the Gloucester shop but I am not sure she can delegate her staff to DO! There seems to be a lot of messing about and chatting when maybe they should be trying to achieve that polished look. Gloucester boasts it is within the top 10 of fish and chip shops in the UK. Cirencester could be there as well with a little effort!

Ordered a kids fish fingers and chips for my daughter. She didn't touch most of it, fish fingers were ok, chips tasted a bit weird. Staff were lovely and helpful though

The plaice and cod were perfectly cooked. The homemade tartare sauce is legendary. My personal favorite was the halloumi. Brilliant. While we were there we had a medical emergency. Emma was amazing. She was so helpful. We got carted off by ambulance to hospital only to discover there was a major power outage. Just not our day Emma you are a star. Connor is ok for now.

Battered sausage and chips. Sausage was average but chips were vile, basically heated strips of potato. Surely chips are meant to be crisp on the outside with a lovely fluffy centre? Staff looked like they couldn’t care less. First visit in 20 plus years and fairly sure it will be even longer before I venture back. Certainly not going to win any awards there!

Walking around Cirencester, a couple of nice ladies told us about this chip shop, well we were not disappointed, best we’ve had in a long time.

Emma who works there is the rudest person I’ve ever ever met and friar tuck has a very odd smell inside avoid

Service was slow, food was expensive for what it was. Not much else to say. Gave them another go, lady with bandana on her head believes it's ok to be rude to people that turn up for food at 8:30. Shouting to someone out back to come out and put chips on as everyone things it's funny to come and get there food now. Lady, its a takeaway restaurant, that's how it works.

Medium cod was like a battered stickleback and the woman serving seems to have been misled by her husband regarding the correct size of a large sausage

Awful staff attitude. Ordering machine was broken - older lady with brown hair and earrings calls people around not even noticing I have issues and then shouts that I need to order at the till but doesn't prioritise me. Had a complete attitude and to be frank I won't even think about giving you business again. I spoke to my child and she barked "what did you say?" Horrendous.I just for home and she has charged me incorrectly as two sausages are missing. Its a shame as the food is actually nice - need to sort your customer service skills - she is very off-putting and I'm not sure you can afford her being your front of house.....

A wonderful lady greeted us and explained she was alone end there may be a wait, we had 3 children with us and they were looked after first. Our orders came and my large cod was huge, it took up the whole plate and is hidden by the chips in the photo. All the food was superb. Best fish I’d had for ages. Reasonable prices and a clean environment. Thanks all.

Good fish and chips very competitive for childrens meals and asset plenty for adult with free drinks.

Been here before many times, good food and service, we had 1 large fish and chips , and beef burger with small chips and salad. yes it the staff can be hit and miss, but on our visist it was ok.

I enjoyed a lovely haddock and chips take away. There was lots of comings and goings of regulars while I waited for it to be cooked fresh. Will definitely be back.

Good grief. I'd prefer the spoonerised version of the name of this dive. I was served tepid warmed up chips ..mostly dried out, lots of green bits and had to pick through to find the more acceptable ones. Left the majority. Tiniest pot of tea, barely one small cup. The table was clean but the floors were greasy and slippy. Waited ages to pay. Almost walked but didn't want to be dishonest. This cost £5.50. I felt £5 overcharged. Hand drier in bathroom didn't work. Dismal experience. Only in Ciren on sufferance. Won't go back.

Long waiting time. 2 out of 3 meals were really poor. The freshly cooked chips and fish were lovely. But the others 2 had horrible dry chips and fish that had been sat for too long.

Stumbled upon this fish and chip shop today in Cirencester iv been many a time before but iv never walk down this end and never know it was there . So decided to go into get lunch . I’m not normally a fish person but I ordered mini fish and chips and it was absolutely lovely the batter was so crispy and the chips was lovely . And friendly staff. . Will definitely. Be going here again now I no it’s there

Visiting my son and his family we dropped into the friar tuck one evening, there was a bit of a queue which is always a good sign. The staff were hardworking. The food was very good. We down again at Easter so hopefully you will be open

Best fish n chips anywhere Quick service. Value for money.

Wide menu, but only offering what was cooked, not cooking fresh, as it was an hour till closing. So must get there earlier for the full choice. Good to have seats, for eating in.

Couldn't even get into The Crown at Ampney Crucis car park ,let alone make our dinner booking ! So we made the mistake of getting a takeaway F&C from this place. And what a mistake! Bottom line , fish was just alright , whilst the chips were mostly dreadful.! Small in size and very over cooked. Not good for the teeth. Never again. We'll try The Crown again this eve

Our first visit, & it'll be our last ! Waitress could best be described as surly. All but threw the menus & cutlery at us. When the meals arrived, (fish & chips), the chips looked as though they had been re-heated & had barely seen any cooking oil. Fish was not done enough. Problems surfaced some time later. I needed a trip to the bathroom & my partner had an uncomfortable time with her stomach. Diners beware.

Good food, friendly and efficient staff

We had just returned from a long journey back home to Cirencester and did not have the time or energy to cook. We were both craving fish and chips and decided to give The Friar Tuck a try. It's possibly the worst fish and chips we've ever (not) eaten. It was so bad, even our dog turned her nose up when we scaped the whole lot into her bowl. Totally inedible. Never again. In the future, we'll happily pay the eye-popping prices at The Malt Shovel, as at least we won't go to bed hungry.

Excellent chippy. One of the best I have been to and I have tried a few. Ate in the restaurant and had large cod and chips. All tasted amazing. Batter was light and crispy. None of it was greasy, to the point where you would not have known there had been fish and chips on the plate when finished. Well worth the drive.

Returned to cirencester after many years to find the fish n chips were absolutely amazing sat in the restaurant with our friend very much enjoyed

Ate in - everything you touch us grubby and cleaning needs attention. Sausage & chips was okay but the batter was soggy and the sausage white!! Can of Fanta served without a glass. Basic !

We ordered from Friar Tuck last night and had the food delivered via Deliveroo to our campsite just outside of Cirencester. As Londoners, we found the fish and chips to be great value and the quality of the food was good.

order from this place before and the food was good so i went again and decided to get jacket potatoes with cheese and bean the jacket potato came powdery and had just cheese on it what a joke paid for cheese and beans as well and just got cheese the salad was stingy

We had our order delivered,an item was missing rang shop First Lady was rude and unhelpful Second Lady didn’t have a clue so gave up.rest of food was poor chicken burgers were plain and dry and jacket potato was cold inside also chips tasted like they had been reheated.have had food from here before and it was good but this time was awful maybe just an off night but same quality should be delivered every time no matter what.

Please don’t waste your money with this place. Absolutely awful fish and chips from here this evening. Definitely reheated lunchtime fish. Shame cause I went a few years ago and it was quite good.

Average fish and chips. Fish was quite chewy/rubbery but batter was good. Service was very good and quick and the place was very busy. I had the medium cod and chips and thought it would be too much but fish wise there wasn’t actually much fish in all the batter but there were plenty of chips. Overall a good experience in the shop but not the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. £8.30 for medium cod and chips.

The small option was a good sized portion and well priced. The restaurant area isn't posh but service was ok and food delivered promptly.

The best batter ive ever tasted and their homemade tartar sauce is amazing. I live in Cheltenham, I don't mind driving all the way to Cirencester just to get good fish and chips. And the staffs were amazing! Bravo.

Always loved fish and chips here for years but tonight they were a right let down and have put me off buying again . Batter on the fish all soggy and under cooked just like the fish was, I hope the bin enjoyed them 😢. Must have changed the friar ….

Visited yesterday Tuesday 22nd November, lovely staff didnt wait long for our takeaway but we were disappointed with the fish ,batter was chewy not crispy as if the fish had been sitting around for a while maybe since lunchtime, chips were good. Shame we were looking forward to this 😪

You could always rely on this place to have a good meal but todays visit was not good. The windows are dirty - the menu case a mess - on entering the extraction is inadequate. The lady server with the tattoos who decides to go outside for a vape before serving me is just bloody rude. She says hello to nobody & makes no effort whatsoever to be pleasant - get rid of her! The other waitress was lovely. I always have the scampi and it’s always lovely - as it was today. The chips though were woeful - soggy & with a very odd taste, rendering them inedible. The peas were swimming in water and had not been drained and the tartare sauce just mean in its portion. These are difficult times for the fish and chip industry bearing the brunt of high costs - only the best will survive and if this place doesn’t up it game dramatically and urgently then there will be another empty shop in Cirencester

Pointless ordering online. Ordered online to save time after work. Collection time 19:10-15. Queued for an age (no collection line) finally got to the front and my order is not ready and being made from scratch. Good chips but don't waste time online.

Very friendly staff with a good menu. We walk by at night and there was a que going out the door. Came back for lunch the next day. Had the burger and was slightly disappointed. Not sure if they are hand made or frozen but there were some hard bits in them. I did see the fish and chips at the table next to us and it looked very good.

Used to really enjoy the food from here, but recently not so much anymore. Undercooked chips (couldn’t eat them) we couldn’t take back as they had closed, (we collected about 8.30pm) so had closed by the time we got back and started to tuck in. Decided to give it a second chance a month later but again couldn’t eat them:( shame, used to be very nice! Lovely ladies though.

Loved the food. We had the fab fish which almost melted in the mouth and the sausage (couldn't resist the large size).... so thought I'd be good and have the small chips.... nothing small about it! Quick service and had a giggle too with the lovely ladies, suggest you eat in to enjoy it more. Sorry, no pics as too nice to hang around. Thank you for making me laugh.

just had a great fish and chip experience, fish chips and fruity curry sauce. the food was excellent but the staff were also great fun. especially Liz, who could have got a job at Faulty Towers customer service desk, keep up the good work ladies.

Lovely food and staff very friendly

I would like to thank the staff at Friar Tuck Fish Bar for their excellent food and service. Our team of 16 working at the Steam and Vintage Fair were tired, hungry and desperately seeking somewhere that was open and could feed them to keep them going! Luckily at the 4th attempt we discovered this gem. Despite it being near closing time they fulfilled our long and complicated order with good humour and efficiency. The food was delicious and the service excellent - thank you!!!

It was quite good for food but the staff were not at all friendly or helpful. We wanted yo dine it but though all the tables were empty, they refused to give us any tables. I feel they were not at all helpful.

Sat inside for fish and chips. Also do take away. Service really good. Nice clean eat in area. Both had fish and chips which we couldn't fault which included a lovely tartar sauce and the cups of tea were lovely too. Will definitely use this place again when visiting Circencester. Very good value lunchtime meal.

Very fast pace place, but reasonably priced and fresh and delicious cod. Highly recommended.

It was mine and my mums first time eating here the food was amazing my mum and I really enjoyed it all staff were so polite I was served by a young girl called katie her customer service skills were brilliant and is a credit to the team so polite me and my mum will be coming again thanks so much

Smashing friendly staff, great chips but the half pound cheeseburger had no cheese. I ordered a cheeseburger, the lass behind the counter called out a cheeseburger when my order was ready but when I got back to the campsite the cheese wasn’t there!

One of worst chips I had had this year.Had a awful taste may be the oil needs changing.Staff was friendly.

One star is for the fish which was edible. The chips on the other hand were not. Crunchy with no potato left inside where they had been so overcooked. I'm guessing that as they had just opened for lunchtime service the chips were the ones left over from the night before and re cooked. Avoid as there are better fish and chip shops locally.

4 of us visited on 16 May 3 had haddock what a size medium is and so good the other had scampi and again brilliant service couldn't do enough for us as 2 disabled will definitely go again couldn't fault it

Been a regular here since I moved to the area a few years ago. That has now come to an abrupt end. They refused to let my two year old daughter use their rest room facilities when we were passing. We were in the middle of potty training her and she was desperate for a wee while out in Cirencester. The lady behind the counter refused to let us use the toilet and followed up by saying “not really my problem is it?” My daughter ended up wetting herself because of this. I returned to the shop later on that evening to confront them without my daughter and they responded by threatening me with the police.

Fish Chips and Mushy Peas was Very Good Cooked Fresh, Friendly Staff. My only criticism is the Toilet and Door Could do with a Coat Of Paint. Let's the Place Down.
