Jacks has always been a favourite place to visit with girlfriends as you could always guarantee a good slice of delicious cake. I was fortunate to be able to visit today with my hubby, so he could see what I’d been raving about all this time. When our cakes came out, his was the usual portion but you could hardly see mine..it was less than an inch slice and missing the middle butter cream. I asked the server where the rest was and was met with the response “I got told off for cutting the slices too big”.. I expect meagre cake portions from Costa and Starbucks but the slice I got today wasn’t even up to even their standards. Left extremely disappointed and ripped off! Not a happy customer.

Friendly staff but sadly coffee cake (despite looking great!) had no flavour at all and was dry. We arrived not long before closing - not sure if coffee machine needed cleaning, milk was off, or staff were done for the day but both coffees were very poor. I think it’s the first time I’ve not been able to finish my coffee!

I have been to Jacks a number of times and it until today was one of my fav locations for a sneaky brunch with my other half and our dog. I popped in today in search of a warming soup in-between work/study in town. The place was pretty empty, cold, tables were dirty, the staff seemed tired/bored/shuffling around clearly wishing they were elsewhere and the wifi didnt work. I also noticed th usual huge selection of yummy looking cakes boiled down to some stale edged looking brownies and one kind of cake. £8.50 for soup of the day with bloomer toast (Mushrooms soup). Ordered a cappuccino to fuel my afternoon work. Was advised to get a knife - apparently the dish comes with a spoon but not a knife, bit odd but whatever. Coffee was fine, didn't set my world on fire but it was fairly hot. As I waited for sound I noticed the table next door was missing half its order. Another table had to ask twice to have their table wiped down. Soup arrived, it was hot, but thats about the only decent thing. It was salty, weird dried chewy bits of mushroom bits I sorted of sifter out as they tasted rank. Th bloomer - well I dont know how you mess up toast, but it was only toasted (burnt on the edges) on one side and bread on the other and cold. I slapped the butter on with the knife I had located, couldn't finish the soup and fled. Id already paid so no point in asking for a refund and frankly I didnt hold out much hope with the waitress who looked like she couldn't care less.

Having not been to Jacks for many years we expected homemade delicious cakes but that wasn’t to be. Jacks has obviously changed hands and now buys everything in. The tea was fine but the cakes awful. Tasteless and left an unpleasant taste in your mouth for some time after. No longer quality homemade cakes made with love but now cakes made from cheap ingredients and poor quality. Not somewhere we will return or recommend unfortunately.

Great place catering for all tastes and appetites. Liked the seating in the outer area - cooler and quieter this Saturday before Christmas as it was. Sis wanted light and veggie, I wanted something 'meaty' and a bit more substantial (hey I'd travelled from Dartford to be there). Both of us really pleased with food, drinks and 'brown liquid' afterwards. Nice belated and very mini 70th birthday celebration too!!

Amazing breakfast! First time visiting this cafe and wish we’d found it sooner! The staff were attentive and the place has a nice atmosphere. The breakfasts were the best we’d had in a long time. I had the Eggs Benedict and my husband had The Jack Stack. Both came out promptly and we were not disappointed. The muffin I had was thick and fluffy with perfectly cooked poached eggs. The Jack Stack was delicious it was more of a lunch than breakfast the portions were huge. The hash browns were also amazing so fluffy and crispy could have ordered extra portions. Huge compliments to the chef the food is amazing and delicious keep doing what you’re doing!! We will definitely be retuning when we visit Cirencester again!!

Lovely place - we considered going back for the second time in one day after having breakfast there but it was full. Excellent food, good choice without it being overwhelming. Don't often write reviews but made an exception for this. The staff found out that it was our dog's birthday that day and brought her over a birthday sausage to eat which she enjoyed. Little details like that make a big difference. We also really enjoyed the food which was excellent. Zero complaints at all and the fact that it's dog friendly means that we'll be back on our next visit. Thanks very much team.

We should’ve after arriving as the cafe was so cold. Our hot drinks arrived at a very mild temperature and had soon gone cold five minutes later. I ordered the turkey, stuffing and Brie toastie where after a few bites I had to pick a hair out of my mouth. The turkey looked to be packaged slices you’d get from Aldi or Lidl. And to top it of with my final bite I ended up getting a small bit of plastic stuck in my teeth. My partner order poached eggs on toasted sourdough. The poached eggs were over cooked and rock solid so she was left with two large slices of cold bread with two poor quality eggs which ended up being very dull and dry. I would recommend asking for some hollandaise. It turns out we weren’t the only ones who didn’t enjoy the food as I heard to lovely ladies next to me complain several times about the food to the waiter. Overall a very poor experience, the food was substandard and definitely not worth the price, a freezing cold restaurant and poor quality food. We won’t be coming back again.

We visited jacks 2 days ago actually, impressed when they gave me a separate Free From menu (I’m lactose tolerant). Food came quickly, staff friendly. Really enjoyed it. Went back today and had a completely different experience sadly. We ordered similar meals but one was from the Free From menu minus hollandaise sauce. Guess what? Both came WITH hollandaise sauce. Foreign waitress clearly didn’t understand. Plate eventually removed and had to wait another 10 minutes while hubby started his food. Not impressed as he specifically said one from Dairy Free menu! They were clearly having a bad day as one couple left without having their coffees and they got another food order wrong.

Had previously been to Jack’s for brunch/lunches etc many times over the years and would have recommended it to others heading to Cirencester but will not be in a hurry to return as Jack’s has gone downhill. I ordered the pancakes with compote and was immensely disappointed - I instead found flavourless food being served to the point where I couldn’t eat more than a couple of mouthfuls. Sticking some bland fruit sauce on pancakes and charging money for this is ridiculous. The server came along to remove plates and cups and did not seem concerned to find 90% of my dish still on the plate. This is again reflective of poor customer service as this should have been a sign of awful food. Real shame for Cirencester.

This really was terrible The service was well below what should be expected. Our food arrived 35 mins after we sat down. I asked the waitress who replied we are terribly busy so as you can expect there’s a delay - I felt very rude and the least she could have done is checked on our order. Same waitress bought food and did not ask if we wanted condiments. She didn’t bring us any cutlery either. My bacon bap was swimming in fat and for £6.50 was just two pieces of horribly fatty bacon in a butty - no butter, no sides. Previously Jacks was great. I cannot return. Really upsets me when cafes take your cash and fail to deliver anything good on all counts.

Told it would be with us in 10 mins, it wasn’t, had to chase again. Food eventually arrived and was of decent quality. No apology offered. Seemed very disorganised! I previously left Jacks a 4 star rating, but that was back in 2021. Since then we've been back quite a few times and it was so popular you would have to book a table but those days are long gone. We popped in on Sunday morning for breakfast and were surprised how quiet it was but soon found out why. The menu offers very little choice, gone the waffles, just a breakfast bowl (basically full English) or a small selection of rolls. We ordered a bacon roll and sausage roll - first thing we noticed was the previously high quality sausage and bacon had been replaced by cheaper alternatives. Coffee wasn't as good either. Whilst the quality has gone down the prices haven't. This used to be a real little gem but sadly we won't be going back when there are other and better value options available in the town.

Those serving were very friendly, polite and helpful - and our food arrived promptly. The "Jacks Bowl", basically a cooked breakfast, was tasty and filling, and I enjoyed it. Included are two sausages and two rounds of toast - and the fried egg was good and runny. I felt that the sausages could have had a little more texture to them. After breakfast, it's a very limited menu. I think most of us ended up having the quiche, and a couple had soup. The food was actually quite nice, but it was somewhere between slightly, and quite over priced. This becomes more apparent when you take into account the lack of service. There is no table service and after we placed the order at the counter, the drinks took forever and the food even longer. Service was so so slow that finding a clear table when we walked in was difficult and had to ask for ours to be cleared because it was the only one left to seat 6.... this is a real shame because the serving staff were actually very pleasant. Overall I think with some minor changes and reduction in some prices, this would be a lovely place. As it stands, I think I would try and find somewhere else in future.

Had read all the reviews so was looking forward to a pit stop here. Allergy information was very slow as staff had to go and look it up, thereby creating a queue which is always so embarrassing. Ended up not being able to have anything from the cake selection. Raspberry smoothie was good though and my sister's cinnamon roll looked (and tasted according to her) delicious.

Such a bad experience. Dirty tables, horrible service (the waitress spelt the espresso and just ran from the table and I had to call her back to replace it), the food was ok (good flavours) but overpriced- 12.95£ for a single poached egg with sourdough toast and halloumi cubes. Please start from cleaning the tables after people are leaving..not recommended

Popped into this busy tea room for a spot of lunch, as we took a break from the fabulous Corinium Museum next door. The staff were friendly and the establishment was clean, although vacated tables could perhaps have been cleared a bit more quickly. The covered walkway was nice to sit in, with a rustic feel. Free WiFi was available. Food and drink received were of good quality. Good range of cakes, light bites and drinks available, even a selection of treats for dogs!

We called in for a cup of coffee in the late afternoon. The staff were welcoming and friendly, even though they were getting ready to close. The coffee was freshly made and tasted very good. Even though we didn't have one, the cakes on display were delicious. As we had our dog with us, we sat in the covered courtyard area which was very pleasant.

We had breakfast there, the service was good and friendly, lovely cup of tea. We had the sausage Butties, the were on a dry toasted roll the sausage was also very dry and overcooked. A little butter on the roll or a bit of rocket or lettuce would of made it a lot less dry. I can't understand why bread is not buttered anymoor. For the price charged it is not a lot to expect.

A friendly tearoom in Blackjack street that's bigger than it looks so worth a try no matter how busy the town is. Sourdough toasties are recommended, as are the milkshakes and Rocky road. They do bigger meals at lunchtime as well. Staff are friendly and on the ball, clearing tables promptly which is always a good sign. Dog friendly too.

We dropped in on chance on a cold Tuesday lunch time. The place was already quite busy, which we took as a good sign. We last ate here about four years ago and my goodness, how it has changed! Still the same pubby interior, horse-themed as you might expect. The food however was simply outstanding. We had planned on a quick lunch, but it was so good we ended up having two courses each plus a shared nibble of excellent, fresh taramasalata while we waited for mains. We tried the ox cheek with truffle mash, and chicken supreme with braised leeks and onion tarte tatin. Top quality food, cooked to perfection. I could have eaten the crispy kale (veg accompaniment ) all day. Great choice of desserts but we were quite full after our mains, so just had a cheese plate and an affogato. Both very good. I didn’t have wine as it was lunchtime, but there was a very good wine list and a good selection of beers. We will be back!

The hotel and gardens are decorated and maintained so beautifully and the hotel is comfortable, warm and cosy throughout. The Christmas decorations and roaring fires were so lovely in a cold December. All the staff across Reception, the Bar, the Restaurant etc were an absolute delight. The breakfasts were also delicious. We took our 6-month old puppy and there were many sweet touches for him such as as a dog bed and bowl ready in the room and a 'doggy sausage' at breakfast each morning. We were in a newly refurbished Cotswold double and it was decorated beautifully and was very comfortable. The only slight downside is that, likely because it's such an old building, the walls are very thin so you can hear your neighbours very clearly. This is the only reason i haven't given it the full 5 stars (I would give this 4.5 stars if Google allowed). It wouldn't stop me staying here again, I'd just take ear plugs next time. Brilliant location to explore Bourton on Water, Daylesford, Broadways, the Slaughters etc. Highly recommend staying here.
