Excellent old stone-built village pub. Hidden away in a cul-de-sac village, the Fox is a friendly, welcoming pub with good ales and good food. The traditional bar is divided by a wood-burning stove, creating a second, smallish room beyond. Two or three handpumps offer ales, some of which are from local breweries - Loose Canon featured at the time of our visit. To its credit, this place is not a restaurant - it's very much a pub; the sort of place where you are just as likely to see locals sitting and chatting around the bar as people dining. That said, the food is exceptionally good and well worth the detour to come and visit. Not cheap but reasonably priced given the quality, the menu includes such delights as pork belly and pan fried sea bass. We opted for duck, taken from the specials menu and much enjoyed. Highly recommended.

Don’t go. Halloumi sandwich with salad was rubbish! Even had the end of he lettuce in my salad. No interesting leaves just iceberg. Didn’t finish. Fish and chips were uninspiring and had an odd tang. Asked for no salt on chips and came salted.

Needing sustenance we fell upon the Fox Inn by chance and hoped to get a snack. It was paradise, the best pub I have visited for a long time, shame we didn't have time to stop longer. Situated just off the M40 we didn't want to stop at Bicester Services so drove down a lane a short way and found The Fox tucked up a small lane. What a waste. The landlord welcomed us in and was friendly and helpful. The snack we had was delicious and well cooked. The pub regulars made us feel at home, such a shame we live 150 miles away. Lunch is highly recommended but you will need to search for the pub.

This village pub has managed a takeout food service during covid-19 lockdown for the village. Many regular menu items plus specials each week. All with the usual 5 star qaulity and value for money. The specials have been great, and I'm sure most villagers agree that this has kept "normal" going in Souldern during these times. Hats off to the Fox Souldern crew - an asset to the village!

Desserts were also very good - choice of 6 and all large portions at a reasonable price.I think if I lived closer I would be here all the time!

After being let down by 1 local restaurant we saw the sign for The Fox Inn so turned off the ,main road to find this restaurant. We travelled down this country dead end road for quite a distance before we finally found any road signs for the pub. Once in the car park we went inside and asked the question do you do food tonight and the answer to our ears was yes. We ordered our drinks then looked at the menu , we ordered the sea bass and the Fox burger . The food came quite quickly and we were amazed , as said on trip advisor by other people the food is to die for. We ordered the trio of desserts to finish us off. By the time we left the restaurant there were a lot more people eating . Highly recommend this place which once you find it , it’s a treasure. Great staff very friendly and helpful.

After a dog walk we visited this pub for lunch. We all had the sea bass which was exceptional and perfectly cooked vegetables. The pudding , the trio which consisted of a chocolate brownie, treacle tart and creme brulee. The landlord was very friendly and we enjoyed his company; I just wish we lived nearer, but on the other hand the dog might get walked too much. One of the best meals I have had in a pub or restaurant.

We have had lunch here a couple of times now. Lovely food: starters, main courses, puddings and baguettes (with big thick chips) if you want something smaller. Nice rustic feel, a bit off the beaten track so you kind of have to know where you are going, but in fact only a couple of minutes from j10 of the M40. Was recommended here by friends as we were attending a nearby event. So I had booked a table in advance. Luckily we had as it is a very small pub with only a few tables. We arrived half an hour early and was given a very warm welcome and our table was ready for us. It has a limited menu but all the food we had was very good in both quality and quantity, particularly the burger I had ordered from the 'Specials' board. they also served well kept local ales which again was a bonus.

Stop here yesterday on our way home for lunch, menu was limited as I really fancied a ploughman’s or a sandwich but we settled on scampi and chips. When it arrived it was nice and hot but the side salad looked tired and slightly brown, but I think that’s because it was covered in salad dressing. The chips and scampi tasted of nothing and I think that they were straight out of the freezer into a deep fat fryer for 5 minutes and into our plate.

We just stayed a night at The Fox Inn after attending a wedding nearby. The staff are without a doubt the friendliest, most welcoming, helpful and lovely people I've ever encountered! They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, allowed us to check in early and leave late at no extra cost, and let us take food up to our room when we asked. We were even offered a lift to the wedding venue by the lovely man behind the bar! The room was small but cosy, warm and had lots of character. This was an anniversary meal and had heard some mixed reviews from friends but decided to try it out anyway. The atmosphere, I have to admit is great and the décor lovely but the service, food and comfort of the seating needs allot of improvement. The bench seating is very high in comparison to the table height which meant you were not able to relax at all. I have to admit the starters were lovely and we had high hopes for the main dishes; we were however, bitterly disappointed, I am an avid Thai lover, having visited the country many times and eaten in some great Thai restaurants serving authentic dishes. Our main courses, were smothered in heavy thick sauces which quiet frankly were reminiscent of a blue dragon packet sauce you buy from a supermarket rather than the delicate flavours which one expects from a Thai dish. I ordered a fish main and got given beef, the waiter forgot to deliver drinks when ordered and the tables were crammed in so you could hear everyone else's conversations, we had to talk in low voices as we didn't wish for other diners to hear us also. The Fox has such potential, a fantastic setting, very friendly staff if a little flustered when busy and the pricing of the menu good. What a shame they could not deliver on this potential.

The food is top notch, always steaming hot, very flavoursome - always complements for the chef. The service is also excellent, usually served by young college ladies (at a guess) BUT they all have exceptional customer service, always smiling and nothing is too much hassle - the restaurant either takes their hiring seriously or they is a good induction guidance given to the staff - either way full compliments to the serving staff - you do your industry proud! This is locals local pub, not a restaurant. We visited very early evening on a recommendation from our daughter who lives locally. She has visited before and likes the place. Lady H and I were not disappointed with her opinion. It`s exactly our sort of pub. The car park is small but on street parking is ok. Quite small bar area with some tables but does have a separate dining room. Mine host and staff are very welcoming and helpful. There`s a nice outside area and garden where ` littleies` can play. The food selection is good, from a few old favourite dishes to specials. The quality of the food is good and I can recommend the venison pie if it`s available. I`d say pricing is slightly above average but I like the quality and the ambience of the Fox. If you like beer then `Hooky` or `Grail` is for you. There is accommodation available, all en suite. Check out the web page, key in " the fox at souldern".Beware, this may be a small village pub but it does get very busy very quickly, because the locals love it. `Phone and check table/room availability.

Tiny car park, but on road parking easily available.Restaurant is also tiny - you are eating in the bar ... with (when I was there) quite a few people enjoying a drink at the bar .... so more a 'pub' meal than a' restaurant' meal.Vegetarian choice was very limited and all cheese based - so we had two starters instead of starter and main courseNot cheap considering the environment. With so much choice available locally, not sure I'd go again.

To be honest, this was the third place I phoned to try to book a table for Sunday lunch for 9 people... It was our third choice, as the other places we phoned could not accommodate us, but we had had good service here, previously... I was initially, a bit disappointed as we were told where our table was but we weren't taken to it. We sat down and had no menus. We were asked if we wanted drinks but I had to ask for a wine list. I went to the bar to ask for menus. The menu was limited but was adequate for our requirements. There was no children's menu but small potions were provided, for children. Some of our party found the room we were seated in a bit chilly, initially... The oil lamps hadn't been lit and the lighting was just about good enough for most of us to see but one of our party was partially sighted and the entrance (down two steps) was very gloomy.I did not like the Merlot, on the wine list. Things did improve, as the meal progressed, and I was very pleased to have gluten-free Yorkshire puddings provided. (I would have gone for the beef if I'd have known this) but the lamb was very nice, anyway. The gents' loos are outside but the ladies' loo (there is only one) is inside. I don't think there is anywhere to nappy-change a baby and I didn't see any disabled toilets. The layout of the inn was difficult for someone with little sight but we managed, by guiding the partially-sighted person, by the hand.

Mixed feelings about the Fox, the food was good and waiting staff friendly. However, while we had booked 2 weeks in advance, we were shown to a table in the coldest room, right next to the door in an empty part of the restaurant that got no more than half full for the whole of the lunchtime service (28 Dec 14). Staff were happy that we moved table, but they continued to show customers to the tables v close to the door - Why? This left such a poor first impression that was almost impossible to recover.....Please think of your customers comfort - I wrapped a big scarf around myself for the duration of the meal.

From the minute we entered and sat down it was a lovely evening. The ambience in the place is welcoming, the customer service is friendly and attentive and the food was amazing.Potted duck, tiger prawns, sirloin steak, and rump of lamb (Moroccan style) followed by Eton mess and an excellent cheeseboard, all were very good and had brilliant flavour and were really professionally cooked. We'll be back.Best wishes and all the best of luck to the team at the Fox Inn, Souldern.

Due to the unforeseen closure of a popular restaurant on Monday evening we travelled to Souldern near Bicester and enjoyed an excellent meal at The Fox Inn.From the warm welcome on arrival the hosts were attentive and made our evening most enjoyable. The food was excellent - both the pork belly and the Moroccan spiced rump of lamb were as delicious as they looked. The house wines were excellent and inexpensive. We were advised that the pub had changed hands earlier this year and the new owners are obviously doing something right. We wish them well and we will return.

Popped in here with a colleague on the long drive back from a business trip (it isn't far from the motorway) and I'm extremely glad I did. The food is very well priced, both for the sheer quality and also the lovely atmosphere inside the pub whilst you eat. I had the Moroccan spiced lamb and found it impeccably cooked whilst my colleague had the burger and found the portion of the burger excellent - it easily set him up for the 4 hour drive back north.Added to that, the owner of the pub was extremely friendly and had a chat with us about our food and what we'd been doing during the day. It doesn't sound like much, but it was a wonderful touch that both myself and my colleague were very impressed with.Needless to say, if we were on the same route again, we wouldn't hesitate to come back. 5/5!

Last Saturday my wife and I attended a family get-together and lunch at a halfway point common to us all. It was a pin-in-the-map kind of arrangement and none of the thirteen of us had visited The Fox in Bicester before. From the moment we all arrived, the proprietor and staff looked after our various needs admirably. The lunch was a pure delight. Choices to suit everyone, hot food WAS hot and the quality excellent. We shall most certainly return - Thank you The Fox !

Very nice pub set in a very pretty part of Oxfordshire. Nice relaxed atmosphere where you can really unwind with family and friends. However, the best thing about this place is the staff! So friendly and accommodating. We arrived with two very noisy children and they made sure we had everything we needed and went out of there way to make sure we had a good time. Food is reasonably priced and tasty. Simple but good menu. Its not very big so I would advise you make a booking.

We were at odds and staying in the local area so decided to try this pub out based on previous reviews and we were not disappointed. Great service, very friendly and food was really nice. We were a little let down with the children's meals and almost wished we had bought adults course as the price was actually only a couple of pounds different but this didn't spoil the evening. Would recommend it.

This pub is under new management and it is now fantastic. The menu changes regularly, the specials are varied and good, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back!

We have been going to the Fox for about 7 years and am sorry to say I don't think we will go back. Their signature dish (the Fox Sandwich) has gone, one which we have taken countless friends to try as was so amazing. The rest of the menu reads like any other pub which is fine. The roast is not a patch on how it was previously and it all just feels a bit like an epic cost cutting exercise. But to top it all off, we arrived (5 people) at 2.01pm on a Saturday for lunch and asked if we could have a table. The bar tender went off into the kitchen, arrived back 5 mins later and told us they stopped serving at 2pm. There were 2 tables still eating so had potential of a dessert order and there were 3 tables free in the bar area (out of 7). Clearly not really interested in the business which is a shame as have really enjoyed visiting this pub over the years.

What a change. We came back after a disappointing visit to find warm and genuinely friendly staff. The burger and ribeye steak we had were so good we have been back twice! Fabulous country pub well worth the visit!!!!!

Really worth a visit, I went with some friends for a relaxed Friday night catch up. Food was really good, the pasta main course was a little bit bland but nothing a little bit of chilli and some more seafood wouldn't sort out. Burger was lovely and the creme brulee pudding was excellent.Services was also great, despite our host being very new she made us feel very welcome and gave us just the right amount of attention.Give it a try for yourself!

The food was delicious. The menu is small, but of really high quality. We've eaten in some of the best places in Cheshire, but the food we had here was actually better. In terms of value for money, it's exceptional. The inn, like the village, is packed full of character and is filled with lovely, friendly people. We'd love to visit again the next time we are in the area.

A beautiful country pub with a menus that reads well. Whilst the food was a little disappointing we would have ventured back there for the venue. The service from the land lady was atrocious. Far from being made to feel welcome, we were made to feel like an inconvenience! However we have heard that the pub will soon be changing hands and will visit again then.

I live locally but not been in the pub before, so met up with some friends there and now i know why i hadn't been there. The menu looked quite exciting but the food itself is distinctly average, i had one of the fox specials which was ham and eggs and was served reasonable quickly but my friends who came in a few minutes after me had to wait ages for the food and again the best we could say was it was average. The landlady (poor women) was rushing around like a headless chicken and when i went to the bar to order another pint the landlord was more in love with his tablet computer and chatting to his mates rather than serving me and ignored me up until the landlady appeared at the bar area where he jumped to it. I for one won't be coming back in a hurry nor will my friends. Shame as it has the potential to be a gem...

It was my first visit to the Fox Inn which had been organised by my wife. We were greeted on arrival got our drinks and were shown to our table. The staff were very friendly and our order was taken very quickly. The food arrived and it was fantastic. My kids were a bit surprised when the pulled beef burger arrived, it was not what the were expecting but the soon made short work of them. The beef was melt in the mouth and the portion was more than ample. My wife had a wonderful tender steak and my beef stroganoff was lovely and creamy and full of flavour. Great selection of veg and salad. I will be recommending the Fox Inn to all my friends.

having eaten here many times over the years and been more than happy we decided to return to celebrate a family birthday with a lunch one Saturday recently. How disappointed we were. One of the party ordered from the specials board which was pasta with garlic bread and I ordered beer battered fish. Sadly this was not what we were served. The pasta came without garlic bread and when we told the waiter he said" I will let the chef know" but no garlic bread appeared. My beer battered cod was a flat piece of fish in breadcrumbs that appeared to have come out of the freezer and was not as described. Overall a disappointing lunch which wasn't cheap either, although we were prepared for the prices if only they had delivered as per the menu. Afraid I will need some convincing to return which is a shame.

As a part of five, including a 5-year old, we all enjoyed the food and two of us the cask ale.I had the fish & chips - really enjoyed it. Friendly service and pleasant 'country' atmosphere. Outside eating area looked pleasant (too cold for us!).

Some atmosphere in this otherwise Costa-cloned modern box-designed coffee drive-thru outlet. Coffee was the best part of it.

Biggest thing to compliment this place on is the customer service. I was very impressed with all members of staff serving on the 3 mornings I visited for a pastry and coffee breakfast whilst staying nearby. Friendly, efficient and I watched them acknowledge regulars by name. If I lived nearby this would definitely be my choice of place to go in Bicester. Coffee was very good. Had decaf flat whites, regular flat whites and a lovely piccolo coffee (slightly larger than a macchiato). Tasty range of pastries (I especially loved the raspberry croissant). Totally recommend you give it a try.

Average pub really. Food was fine and cheap so cannot complain. Tables and floor were sticky which is never ideal.

From start to finish, we had a very pleasant experience. After suddenly deciding we wanted a roast we went into town, after trying about 4 or 5 different places ( at 2pm may i add - so we knew it was going to be hard) and then after having no luck, we rang the joiners arms, the lady on the phone saved us a table straight away and we made our way over to bloxham & was greeted and seated straight away, service was fantastic - it wasn’t very busy when we was there, but sometimes that encourages less service as the people in the restaurant can be forgotten, this was not the case - but they wasn’t intrusive, kept a good eye and checked on us in good timing. Now the roast, oh my god, what a suprise, me and my partner both had the trio (chicken, pork & beef) all three meats were full of flavour; the chicken wasn’t dry & it was so so so yummy, can’t actually remember the last time I had a roast chicken and it was that good!, beef was cooked perfectly and was served nice and pink & warm. The pork was belly pork & the crackling still attached, melt in the mouth and extra crunchy. Me and my partner have both left feeling presently surprised at how good it was & we will be back.
