Average pub really. Food was fine and cheap so cannot complain. Tables and floor were sticky which is never ideal.

My favorite place in Banbury. The fish and chips are really delicious. They should be crispy and crispy, fresh and fresh, and tender and tender. The roast chicken is not bad either, and you can eat four of them with one chicken. In addition to the original flavor, there are also three Various sauces (meat sauce, hot sauce, salad dressing), every taste is satisfying, the more you eat, the more your mouth will be filled! I really like the Indian curry rice here. The two kinds of bread that come with the meal are amazing, especially the shortbread. Even without the curry sauce, it is salty and flavorful. Next time I come, the curry will definitely make it hard not to order it!

Central pub, nice beer especially on the beer festival on at present

Basic comfort, cheap beer and very average food. Like many other Weterspoon pubs not particularly memorable.

Excellent service, waitress was friendly and chatty and the food was lovely, fresh and tasty.very reasonably priced

Great spot for a break, whenever you choose. Lots to offer & good variety of drinks. Certainly more to ask for when your there.

The customers using this pub on the occasion of our visit were all male, and I am sad to say that some of the language we heard was in our opinion not the best. My wife made the comment she felt out of place here. It was not the usual ambience of previous visits to Wetherspoon's pubs. Would not revisit here if we were ever in Banbury again.

A piping hot breakfast before a long train journey is always a bonus. Thank you all for hospitality, service and friendlyness. 10/10

Ordered two drinks on a Sunday night and I asked for a glass of water. Lad (glasses) behind the bar muttered to another member of staff that we were “being difficult” for asking for water??

The was food was not warm l was in the exchange Wednesday At 18,00pm it didn't taste very nice L hope it improves

On our way to our accomodation Paulicarus spotted the Spoons near Banbury Cross. Jorvic said that it would be rude to walk on by. Even better, they had several beers on offer at £1.99. I had a Wimbledon SW19 Blond, with a 50p off CAMRA beer token. Excellent condition. Missus had a pint of Strongbow dark fruits. All for under £5. T shaped floor plan. Four steps up to bar area. Think we will be here for breakfast as our so called £105 a night B & B is a B but no B..WT ??? Is going on in England! Jorvic and Paulicarus live off sausages.

It’s ok nothing to wriggt home about and maybe best avoided

I went out with my sister and a couple of friends, it started off well but declined rapidly as my sister started feeling unwell and threw up in the toilet, the staff came in and screamed at her even though she was unwell and said she'll give her 10 minutes to clean up and leave but after 3 minutes yelled at my sister again and told all 4 of us to get out, none of us were drunk except my sister, but non of us caused any scene and were just talking to each other, we weren't loud either, even after my sister threw up offered to clean up the mess, but the staff became extremely rude and aggressive towards us, they made us leave when we hardly touched our drinks, my sister had no alcohol at this pub and we informed the bar tender she was a bit drunk and he seemed fine with it, the staff were bad, rude and arogent and tried to act like the victim when none of us were causing a scene, the staff mainly a women started gaslighting us, horrible experience and extremely disappointed with her attitude, acted extremely poorly towards us, she needs to be taught manners, I would never treat anyone like this especially when I'm at work. The bartender was amazing though no complaints for him.

We'd stopped off on route to an overnight stop and chose here as you know what you're getting in a spoons. We ordered from the table and the drinks quickly arrived. The food arrived a short while later. Scampi looked fine as did the two fish until my wife cut into hers. It had virtually no fish inside the batter, my piece was fine and it was hard to believe they were supposed to be the same. My son went to tell a young lad who then came over to our table and appeared to question our comment, hard to disagree when we showed him the difference. He then said "we can do you another fish but it may turn out the same" ?? all a bit strange and off-putting as we are not overly fussy people and are regulars at spoons and appreciate that for what you pay the food is usually great. The replacement fish arrived ten minutes later and was perfectly acceptable. On a plus note, the new pudding dish of shortbread with ice cream and chocolate sauce is gorgeous!

We only stopped a short while. Breakfast was okay, and my 3 family members all enjoyed their versions of breakfast. Service was quite fast.

Widely regarded as being one of the worst in the chain. The interior is quite worn and shabby. The beer is good and the pricing very low. Getting served is however hit and miss. We were pleased on our last visit to note that there was only one person at the bar. With us next to be served. There were problems with the person's order which led to a circa 10 minute wait. Two people arrived from outside, and the person serving ignored us and immediately went down the bar to serve them. Upon which we left for the Coach and Horses around the corner.

Never disrespect a Spoons. Good service and great value, plus hard working staff.

Fairly standard Spoons which is a bit smaller than most with the bonus of toilets on the ground floor.

I popped in for breakfast on Wednesday morning. I had a vegetarian breakfast, fried eggs may have been cooked the night before yolks were so hard and whites rubbery. Then on Friday after taking a friend out to Broughton Castle the three of us popped in for lunch. I ordered 10oz Gammon egg and chips, thinking food is coming out left right and centre I must get fresh cooked fried eggs. Unfortunately once again they were hard yolks and rubbery whites, obviously cooked then kept warm! My other half ordered sausages and mash. I would have sent it back. It was grey mash, solidified gravy and 3 dry sausage. He said it's obviously been plated up earlier then microwaved when ordered. Luckily our friend's fish and chips was not so bad, but Morrisons do a far better fish and chips. Oh and the pint of Doom Bar had all bits floating in it and sediment in the bottom of the glass! No point going to the bar as you could not get served for all the regular people who were queuing up for just cheap beer. These were the same people who were in there at 9.15am on Wednesday morning ordering pint after pint. Thanks but I think I will choose to spend my money where at least fried eggs are runny. Staff however are doing a sterling job with what they have to work with.

Excellent jacket potato was fab I asked for melted cheese and it was done. Also to have refill of hot drinks was amazing

Had better food in other weatherspoons and could do with a good clean but the staff where great beer was cold and food was eatable

Ordered a nachos to have with some drinks and got handed this. Was very disappointed as the menu of course says sour cream, quac, and chilli’s serves with it. I wouldn’t have minded if the staff had mentioned that they didn’t have any of those on stock but nothing was mentioned. I know spoons in the typical you pay what you get kinda place but this seemed a bit ridiculous. Never been handed something like this is spoons beofre

Very disappointing experience where the rude staff member wouldn’t even consider looking at my son’s valid electronic Australian drivers licence as ID. We had already been served once? I was rudely told when the staff member was talking over me that it was company policy to see a physical document. We had no issue is Bristol. I guess Banbury isn’t used to seeing many international visitors

Smaller building for a weatherspoons. Back of building can feel quite dindgy so I suggest sitting near the front by the windows. Food was OK although overcooked egg. Staff polite and attentive. Just all in all there are better weatherspoons

Went in for a mid week lunch. Food was the usual fare and the beer well kept. The staff were all easy to talk to and helpful.

We went here two nights last week for drinks from around 21.00-22.30 and both nights there was a group of loud males whose language was appalling and whilst the staff interacted with them, there was no one who took control and could keep these louts from swearing and spoiling others' evenings.

Sat outside and enjoyed the sun whilst having a drink , beside market stalls. Ĺovely atmosphere.

How did the manage to get 3/5 in the Wetherspoons survey god only knows. The management have zero people skills and have no ability to speak to customers. They have two types of staff the good ones who are overlooked and the stupid and lazy who appear to run the bar. Food is mediocre on a good day with portion size getting smaller and again poor management and the good staff overlooked. What was a good pub ruined by bad staff. Tim, please make it good again for all of us.

Packed on a Saturday, usual Wetherspoon pub, cheap food and drink and no atmosphere.

A reasonable Wetherspoons and lunch was nice enough

1 barman working and bar very busy felt sorry for him waited 15 mins for a drink so left went to dog and gun much better very poor staff back up

Well being a truck driver I visit lots of Wetherspoons all over the Country . This is the worst I have ever been in. 20 minutes to get a drink just one young girl behind the bar doing her best. Some Ginger woman walking around like she is far too important to get behind the bar and help out. Also very rude I asked her is the football on tonight as they have signs saying enjoy the football with us . And all I got was "pass" and she walked away. Looking at the sign in the photo you would think it might be on. I think she is in the wrong job. I was going to eat but I think I will give it a miss .

Cheap Quality of food commensurate with price and decor, although the English seem to like Witherspoon Sometimes I pop in for a quick Atmosphere nice and pleasant

Holy moly the service is fast on the app!! You'll regret it if you queue at the bar as the app customers take precedence. Less than 4.40 for a double spirit with mixer 😊 Cheap and cheerful, no music as a consequence of the low prices hence the reduction in awarded gold stars.

Typical spoons pub, central location, fast service using the App and great real ale

Me and my partner got food here before drinking and it was awful, it was later in the evening however there was no excuse for the food service or drinks we went around 9 pm and they were not busy at all compared to a usual Saturday night. half the tables were empty. we order 3 of the small plates, nachos halloumi fries and chicken strips. our nachos were minimal at best with a handful of tortilla chips, poorly cut peppers watery salsa, a haphazardly placed unappetizing dollop of sour cream and NO guacamole despite getting this dish regularly at any other Wetherspoons. The halloumi fries were dry and borderline burnt and we ordered Tennesse BBQ sauce with these and received regular which I despise. Then our drinks took almost 20 minutes to arrive despite the practically empty pub and tasted borderline NON- alcoholic with my chronically Gin hating partner being able to drink my Tanqueray,the man who delivered our drink did not even acknowledge us just placed them down and went back to listening to music on his AirPods. a mediocre experience at best and a complete waste of time and money

Usually never had a problem with this place but after deciding to have breakfast one morning after a night shift at work upon first entering noticed glasses that were filthy! After waiting for 5- 10 mins as the server was busy and serving food was told they wont be long now bearing in mind everyone ahead of us was seated and no one waiting to order besides me and my girlfriend as I do usually I asked for my mushrooms to be swapped with bacon which has always been allowed previously unfortunately I was told very sarcastically and rudely "no, if I can't do it for them I cant do it for you can i" bearing in mind I had heard no one else order food before us so to me that was just plain rude and lucky I didn't snap back! You caught me on a good day! wetherspoons I tell you now your lucky I didn't walk out there and then or worse. Be careful how you speak to people it's a customer facing job at the end of the day. And if I see him again I will walk out again because rudeness does not deserve custom. Despicable! Dont work with customers if you cant be nice.

I have just seen a review from 2012 saying it was dirty and full of alcoholic old men, it hasn’t changed! Tables full of used crockery and glasses. Grumpy old man with his sports pages looked like he was there for the day said his spare seat was for his mate who would be coming soon. My partner stood at the bar before 12.00 waiting for service whilst the barman served his mates/regulars. Refused breakfast when he did get to us because it was by then after 12.00! We walked out and I won’t be back. Dreadful place.

Eat here quite often and was disappointed that the person bringing the food out would rather disagree with us than apologise. Twice. Went back to the kitchen and came back still telling us we were wrong. (Red hair and suit). Our table was cleared by someone else and he was lovely. Felt like he cared.

Visited here on 1st Jan 2024. Previously visited The Exchange in June 2022. Another decent quality Wetherspoons branch that does the excellent value 'Top Plates, Low Rates' food deals. An All Day Brunch and a pint of Guinness for the sum of £6.28, is very good value for money. Pub wasn't overly busy, however was to be expected on New Year's day. Only gripe was food arrived before the pint. Definitely worth a visit if in Banbury!

Very disappointed,got to be the worst Wetherspoons I've ever been in.No fish and the Wiltshire ham was almost see-through with chips I could almost count on two hands. Usually I would have made a big fuss for being ripped off but it was my birthday and my wife talked me down. Safe to say I'll never frequent this branch again OR RECOMMEND IT.

Had my best Weatherspoons meal yet, chicken basket, with salad (not chips), came with coleslaw, salad dressing, and I swapped BBQ sauce for Sticky Soy Sauce (as I can't eat BBQ), chicken was toasty hot and in a wonderful batter, all washed down with a strawberry and lime cider 😋

The food and the staff are great but the heating has been stuck ON for months (even in August!) and it doesn't seem to matter where you sit or how many doors and windows the staff open, you feel like you're sitting in an oven. How much this is problem is costing Wetherspoons and WHY it persists is beyond me.

On route last week to Ludlow, stopped off at the Exchange for a quick bite. Both opted for the Brunch. Arrived quickly - well cooked, and tasty. Lovely old building - recommended.

Took more than half an hour just to get our drinks

Food arrived very quick, good beers and staff on the bar, as always with weathers it'd be cool have music on but good bar to socialise in. Sound as a pound pub 👍

It's s been a joy to visit this morning for breakfast. We've found a booth for the 2 of us and everyone here has been so helpful with our guide dog, what a lovely bunch you have working here. Needless to put, but great value vegan breakfast and refill coffee. Toilets pleasant, a good 5 out of 7.

We are users of many many "Spoons" pubs and hotels. This and one other are the only ones we actively will not eat in. The food here is so poor, you would think it was not the same menu as all others. We are not sure how you can get it so wrong, its mass produced knock it out, food, yet we now go elsewhere.

Servers slow and unfriendly Watched our drinks sot for awhile before getting it And too many drunks.We love witherspoons in witney/oxford/ cheltenham are wonderful but banbury servers and customers leave mich to be desired-we ordered drinks and left

Very nice Wetherspoons in the centre of the town. Staff are always friendly and helpful. When it comes to food all you can say is it good value and although not cordon bleu always a reasonable standard. Parking is not easy.

Although the choice of drinks and price's are very competitive the service was something to be desired. The staff appeared more interested in their personal orders and banter, and had little customer focus. Disappointing.

I went in on my own and was sat near a good ald fashioned pub gob sh*te. He was regaling other folk with his knowledge. I thought he was talking out of his hoop at first when I heard him say that we drive on the left in this country because of Napoleon but I google searched it and it turned out he was right. The pub gets 5 stars all the way just because of that and rightly so!

Very impressed with the barman on duty- l was pestered by another customer while being served and he dealt with the situation very well . So much so we- 3 of us- went back 2 days later !!

We have had the most vile experience in this pub. I am a care/support worker and recently came in with one of my residents. The gentleman that I support has got severe autism and a learning disability. He was holding his spiderman mask that he takes everywhere as a comfort item. One of the duty managers (Identified by his white shirt) loudly mocked him, by putting on a despicable voice and saying "oooooh look I'm spiderman". My resident heard this and was clearly upset and embarrassed by it. Needless to say we will not be returning and I will be telling anyone who will listen to stay away from this shoddy excuse of a pub. As a former employee of wetherspoon I am gobsmacked that this is how some of the staff behave. If I could give no stars I would.

Ordered food with my partner for an early quick dinner and forgot to add a drink onto the burger meal deal. When explained to a manager he was very dismissive and basically told me there was nothing he could do. As well as the lack of empathy given the current financial state of the UK there was a lot of unneccessary sniffing and to be honest im unsure if he was ill or if he has had a fat session the night before. Oh and to top it off the place is riddled with black mould as i had noticed whilst enjoying my drinkless meal.

Food was mediocre, atmosphere was dead and the white shirt on shift had little to no interest in the experience. One of the worst experiences I’ve had in a Wetherspoons pub! After realising the meal on order was missing the included drink, he shrugged us off and explained it was our fault for the misunderstanding. The app should not have processed a meal order without the drink selected, as the app has charged us for it. Shame as the few times I’ve visited since lockdown this pub was one of the best for value for money. Unfortunately we will not be returning!

I have the same food every time I go to a Wetherspoons and that was the worst one I’ve ever had. People with me also had terrible food. After complaining the chef was shouting in the kitchen saying she doesn’t care about our complaint and then came out to us and was very abrupt and loud. She even said “you ate most of it so whats the problem” after we’d had a long day and were hungry. I’ve never been spoken to by someone in the hospitality service like this in my life. Disgusting

There were only 2 staff on who did great but were both rushed off their feet, 1 behind the bar and the other on the floor. A pub that size that serves food needs more that 2 people!

Went for two nights and spent an hour each time. G & Ts are excellent value and service was always quick and friendly.

Poor show. Staff inattentive [read repeat your order back for confirmation] and vibe is on the rough side for a 'spoons. Not a patch on the Penny black, (bicester) the Moon over Water (wolves) or the Swan and Castle (oxford) scampi undrained but perfectly fried. Atmosphere: Loads of Cs and Ts, burnt chips.
