Lovely Sunday Lunch with quality cuts of meat and fresh (generous) vegetable selection. Service was very friendly and nice wine selection.

The new menu at The Fox is great! We enjoyed loaded fries (with smoked pulled pork), chicken wings (to die for, nice and spicy) and some baked camembert which was generous in size with a good amount of bread to dip and some lovely crispy mushrooms. If you haven't been here for a while, this is your reminder to go!

Sean’s smoked foods are amazing, well worth a visit. The dirty fries with pulled pork were great. Varied selection on the menu.

These guys catered for my Mother's wake on February 29th, and I can't thank and praise them enough. Debbie was pleasant, helpful and efficient with making the booking, and Sean the chef really pushed the boat out with many home-made dishes in the hot & cold buffet. Everybody commented on the intimate and cozy setting, with the log fire, and how lovely the food. I also met James, the owner, who was very friendly and sociable. Had meal here last Sunday. Have eaten here before and it was very good but not this time. Four of us went and two had roasts. They were very poor, lukewarm, 3 small pieces of potatoes that were barely roasted just like boiled potatoes, a small dish of rather too firm and almost cold broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. Also on their menu online (and still today) said roast chicken meal £12.50 it was in fact £15.95. All our meals were a few pounds dearer than stated. The other couple had Fox burgers which were presented very basically. A few overdone fries a bit of lettuce and coleslaw. On the other hand, the two waitresses were very good and friendly. And we had two free desserts. But all in all it was very disappointing. The Sunday chef needs to up his game

Superb customer service and food. We booked for 8 adults and Kids last minute and were treated like VIPs. Even seated near a welcoming warm log burner. All our food was prepared quickly, presented well and tasted superb. The lovely ladies that looked after us even made special colourful (non alcoholic) cocktails for the kids that they loved. Thankyou - definetely recommend.

We turned up without a booking on the Sunday before Christmas and they managed to fit us in. It's a lovely friendly pub, real fires, great atmosphere. We had a beef, a chicken and a lamb roast. All were top quality, large platefuls, plus a good selection of proper veg. The Fox is the kind of pub that I'll make a note of, and make sure to go out of my way to visit it again when I am next in the area. If I could give six starts then I would.

Popped in for late Sunday lunch. Warmly welcomed and seated. Drinks brought to table promptly and our food order taken. Very friendly staff throughout our visit, checking that we were ok. Ordered roast lamb - excellent food - couldn't fault anything, loved that the vegetables were in a seperate dish - everything was well cooked,hot and well presented. Would definately recommend and will be back.

We have been here a few times now and the food is amazing. The landlord and his chefs are incredibly welcoming, very friendly and are passionate with regard to the food they serve. I would recommend the smoked ribs, which are smoked on the premises and the almond tart is amazing. Very nice pub with a very pretty terrace. And importantly they are very dog friendly and our two little dogs were made very welcome. Well worth a trip out

We went for lunch with our two dogs. The landlord recognised us from a previous visit and made us very welcome. The fox has a couple of “real” chefs and the food is excellent. They have a good fixed menu but also do a special curry and a special pasta dish. I had the pasta dish which was sausage and bacon Mac and cheese. It was great. My wife and our friend both had the chicken Caesar salad and both said that they loved it. Pudding was sticky toffee pudding and almond tart, again both great. We will definitely return. The dogs were also made very welcome.

Popped in on the way to Newbury really nice pub and looked like a good selection of local beer (i was driving so on the soft drink) we had a ploughmans and a baguette both were excellent will definitely use again worth the scenic route into town .

Tasty food reasonable price would recommend and would definitely come again lots of options too. Had a lovely night out.

Stopped for lunch on a Monday lunchtime and although it was not busy, a fire was lit and a warm welcome was received. We ordered the pie of the day, chicken fajitas and a halumi and mushroom burger. All we very nice indeed, were a good portion size and at a reasonably priced. We'll visit again!

Called to The Fox Inn yesterday ( Friday 28th October) to meet our son and hand our grandson back after spending time with us during his half term. Such a welcoming friendly place. Staff were lovely and food was great. Really enjoyed our time there...

Saturday evening we had 19 people to help celebrate our granddaughters birthday. 19 excellent meals were served in good order with various choices being made. The standard of service was excellent staff were friendly and attentive. We will be back with friends as well alone.

By far some of the best food I have had in a local pub for some time, service was amazing and the food was exquisite. The chef genuinely cares for the food he produces and that shows in the finished article. I highly recommend this pub for its quality food, drinks and service. Myself and my partner had a lovely meal here a few nights ago. It was a Tuesday and even though busy we were not waiting long for our meals. To start we had the aubergine fritters which were out of this world! Perfect balance of salty and sweet from the agave syrup! Honestly would go back just for then alone, Dani the chef is a genius! Batter on both the fritters and our main which was a ginger beer battered fish was perfect. I don't usually go for battered fish as it can be too oily or the oil can taste old but this was super tasty! Chips were delicious too. All wrapped up with a chocolate brownie for pud, yummy and not a single complaint at all. The service was fantastic from all. They were attentive, making sure we were happy with our meal whilst also being super friendly! Cocktails were blooming delicious too! Cannot wait to come back soon and would certainly reccomend to other people!

Very impressive attention to detail when it comes to the food presentation, fantastic flavour across all meals we had and portion size is perfect- would definitely recommend the chicken salads as they’re always exceptional. Would 100% recommend a trip down to The Fox Inn.

Had lunch with a friend, food was excellent and the atmosphere within the pub was really relaxed and fun. The staff are really funny, the dark haired barman was particularly hilarious and kept us laughing all the time we were there. Our walking group of six had lunch here yesterday. We were made very welcome by the landlord who was friendly and helpful. Most of the group chose fish and chips which was freshly cooked, delicious and reasonably priced. We will certainly visit again.

Another beautifully cooked roast beef on Sunday. I don't get out much but now I come to the Fox every week and each time the food is impeccable, staff always friendly and always have a good afternoon.

We discovered The Fox by default as we were headed to a different pub that wasn’t open despite advertised opening times. Their loss was our gain. The pub is pretty and well looked after with a generous car park - we arrived in three cars having travelled from West London, Bridgend and St Leonards on Sea for family catch up. The dining space is smartly decorated and the tables are nicely spaced, set on clean tables and feature real napkins. The menu is nicely varied with traditional selections and a Thai curry, with everything in between. Service is spot on and friendly and we were offered drinks straight away while we made our lunch selection. Fish pie, veggie Thai curry, 3x mushroom & halloumi burger. Portion size is generous and all meals very tasty. We have decided to make it our destination for future meet ups as it fitted our needs perfectly. It’s minutes from the motorway but a lively rural setting.

Just had an evening meal at the Fox with my son, the calamari and mixed bread olives got me warmed up nicely for my Greek holiday in a few weeks (hopefully) and the ribs main was the best ribs I’ve ever had I live next door and have been a critic in the past but Jamie,Aron and Shaun have are turning this joint into a different class and also a big shout to the extremely attentive service from the staff. Popped in for a quick burger and cool drink after golf. Haven’t been in The Fox for years. Place looks great, very friendly welcome, very covid compliant. Ordered a cheeseburger, my brother the chicken burger, both really really good. Lovely skinny fries and garlic aioli, the brioche buns were warm and sweet, and the meat ( Vicars game ) was top notch. Being a landlord of a village pub myself, I can only say well done, I will definitely be popping in more often and can highly recommend a visit

Popped in today for a quick lunch after golf, ordered the cheese burger and chicken burger with some soft drinks. Service and food were outstanding. Staff were polite and the owner/manager couldn’t have been more friendly. Highly recommended based on our experience.

We ordered the Valentine’s 3 course dinner, which was delivered as promised. The food was hot and tasty. The lamb shanks were delicious and meat falling off the bone. It was a really nice treat and was nice to not have to cook for a night.

I wanted to relieve the wife, for once, of the cooking duties during the covid-nightmare. Ordered through their helpful team and in 25 minutes we had a really lovely meal. The wife is happy and therefore I am happy! Delicious and well-priced. Would highly recommend - thank you.

We had the pleasure of spending my Halloween Birthday at The Fox last week, and what an amazing meal. The chef was happy to prepare a set menu for our table of 5 that comprised of Fresh Oysters, a superb Moules Maraniere starter and then Smoked Trout with Lobster Bisque for our main course. All cooked to perfection and served by a great front of house team. They even provided a beautiful birthday cake too. If you fancy a special occasion meal with the fun vibe of a country pub, this is the place to go. Thank you again, you made a Birthday very special!!

I recently returned to the fox after an unfortunate evening a couple of months ago! The standard of the food has improved beyond recognition. I chose the ribs as a main. These were smoked to perfection. Succulent and tasty. My wife had the scampi and was happy. Which is a challenge in itself. Overall a huge improvement and one im glad to say was welcome. Only niggle was the front of house which just needs to focus on service not friends. But not something that spoilt my evening. Please pass on our thanks to the chef and kitchen team. 5 stars well deserved

Went to the fox and had a few drinks with friends and managed to get a great seat by the fire. We stayed and enjoyed some lovely dinner. Great menu choices and great service. Will go back again.

The team at the Fox seemed really happy to welcome us, our 2 year old and our dog. I had the roast which was great, the Yorkshire was a treat, my wife had the stew from the specials and my son had a kids bangers and mash. All meals were fresh and didn't have that straight from the freezer feel you can get from pub lunches. The churros were great, fresh from the Fryer. The service was very personal and professional which I know can be tough to implement through mask and social distancing etc. Will most definitely be heading back to the Fox again.

Had Sunday Lunch today which was delicious, well presented and up to the high standard we had come to expect from previous visits. As always Sean and the staff were friendly and attentive with nothing too much trouble - even the dog enjoyed her bonio.All Covid measures were in place and observed, so we felt safe and relaxed. Jamie, Sean and all the staff have worked hard to keep this popular local pub functioning as near normal as they can in these difficult times for the whole hospitality sector and they deserve all the support they can get.

A big thanks to Sean and his lovely staff, for cheering up my father-in-law. He had been looking forward to having a gorgeous Fox Sunday lunch, but had to go into lockdown. Sean provided the poshest takeaway we have ever had. Succulent lamb, roasties, parsnips and all the trimmings. The veg looked and tasted beautiful, roasted carrots, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage yum, yum, yum.... He also gave us plenty of gravy to wash it all down. Puddings were suitably diet busting.., chocolate brownies and sticky toffee pudding. Note to Sean, that toffee sauce goes with everything!! Food at the Fox has gone from strength to strength, but it is your customer service which particularly makes The Fox such a pleasure to visit. Thank you.

Heard good things about The Fox's Sunday Roasts so decided to give it a go. I had the roast beef and my friend had venison fillet. Both were absolutely amazing!! The meats were cooked to perfection, all the veggies were beautiful, nothing boiled and plonked on a plate here. They served up an extra plate of Yorkshire Puddings and loads of gravy we all shared. All finished off with Churros and chocolate dipping sauce. Can't wait to go again!!

Had the pleasure of trying out the New Chef, Matt, at The Fox today. I'm not a lover of roast dinners as find them a bit boring but this guy changed my mind today. Every element of the meal was treated with love, from the butter roast carrots to the venison served with a veal jus. I was naughty and asked for the Scallop starter to be served with the venison as a Surf n Turf and the chef was only to happy to oblige. The Yorkshire Puddings are done in a stone Pizza Oven and are excellent. I had several. Thoroughly recommended if you fancy a change from a "boring sunday lunch" !!!

Had an amazing Sunday roast here, roast beef cooked to perfection and roast potatoes to die for! My niece had the venison which was amazing. Very friendly and helpful staff and good socially distancing measures in place. Looking forward to a return visit very soon

Very disappointed. Back in newbury visiting family after a number of years away we went to the fox for dinner as it was first tuesday with the govt offer and cant believe the change! The steak was very bland and looked like it had been re heated in a microwave. No option for a sauce either. The barstaff seemed more interested in sitting outside with mates. The cutlery was badly water stained and looked grubby. Sorry but i cant think of a positive. Hopefully as things get back to normal. Service and quality will improve. I hope so anyway or we wont be returning

Visited the fox inn today as a group of 6 and we where all extremely impressed with the service and quality of the food. There was a little wait for the food but it was defiantly worth it. All the food was colourful, hot and tasted fresh! The the flavours of the Thai curry was lovely the accompanies worked very well! Shall defiantly come back

An enormous thank you to the crew at The Fox for the amazing wedding party you put on for our son and daughter in law. The food was fabulous and the atmosphere was wonderful. Five of us had lunch today, 2 had Fish and Chips, 2 Scampi & Chips, 1 BLT ciabatta with chips. I had the soup for starters which looked very nice and large, but it was enjoyed a lot. The food was cooked to order and was nice. The waiter/barperson was very attentive.

Very friendly staff, wonderful Sunday roast. The pub was full but we did not have to wait very long for the meals. Would definitely recommend and would visit again.

I was looking for vegan restaurant but none in the area so phoned the Fox Inn and asked if they did vegan food. They hadn't before but came up trumps for me with one of the tastiest vegan meals I've had in a pub. Not the usual burger and chips but a medley of freshly cooked chopped vegetables, fajitas, guacamole, salsa. Served with a smile.

As a regular I highly recommend this very welcoming friendly pub. Great staff and excellent food menu. Quiz nights on a Tuesday are always fun and 2 for one pizza on a Thursday is a bargain to eat in or take away.

Love visiting The Fox Inn to see what guest ales they have on offer. Constant different weekly selection. The food is top quality home made selection to compliment the Ale or Wine depending your tipple. Friendly atmosphere and if your visiting in the winter always a great place to warm up next to the open fire.

After a long week my partner and I decided to check out the new Chinese menu from the Fox. Being our local we have always enjoyed the welcome. I have always thought the food was tasty home style. After seeing new Chinese menu advertised we though we would see what it was like. I am pleased to say it was absolutely delicious! They offer a range of classic dishes which are again tasty and well executed. My favourite was the crispy chilli beef, it’s not usually a dish I choose as the beef is often small and dry so you only get a crispy batter. However at the Fox it was big pieces of battered and seasoned beef in a spiced sauce. The option to takeaway is really attractive so you can call ahead have a pint and collect a tasty meal to take home. You can’t really go wrong with the Fox. You are always welcomed with a smile and treated like an old friend they have a solid range of drinks and you can be safe in the knowledge you will have a hearty meal they you can come back for again. Cheers The Fox Inn you make a long week end really well!

Excellent new Chinese menu ! We are currently in Vancouver, which has some of the most diverse Asian food in the Pacific rim and I STILL think the Chinese food at the Fox Inn is some of the best around. Looking forward to eating there again when we get back......

We chose this pub because after leaving the Living Rainforest we wanted somewhere nearby with a play area for the kids.

The meal was great, plenty to eat, go there hungry, little dark in some places but nice staff and good chief. Place is dated but still nice and cozy

Stopped in for lunch with my wife and two girls (aged four and six) on the way back from the Living Rainforest. Initial impressions weren't amazing, as it was quite dark inside and almost deserted, however we decided to give it a chance having read a number of good reviews and were very glad we did. The menu had a good range of choices, including burgers, homemade pizzas and a number of different mexican dishes, all of which sounded very nice, and each had at least one clearly marked vegetarian/vegan option. The food itself was very good (we ordered two vegetable mexican dishes and fish and chips for the children), and although being slightly pricey wasn't outrageous. I wasn't expecting much for the fish and chips from the children's menu (which had an option of peas or beans) but was pleasantly surprised when it arrived - the portion size was almost big enough for an adult, and the fish was good quality and nicely battered. The chips themselves were also very nice - homemade french fries, lightly salted and very tasty. Overall we were all very happy with the meal and will definitely come back when we visit the Living Rainforest again.

Had the senior lunch, which consisted of Fish and Chips, with peas - arrived food hot and delicious, considering there were 11 of us, the chef did a great job providing the food, nearly all at the same time - very good value for the price - need to try the evening meal sometime - thank you to the chef and barperson great job.

The Fox has become a spiritual home for us whilst visiting Hermitage for work; with a whole host of tempting tipples to chose from, the very finest of hospitality, and the most extensive menu I’ve seen outside of the M25. The pub quiz on Tuesday’s (which we routinely lost) was excellent fun, with a fantastic atmosphere generated by locals and visitors alike. Thursday see’s 2-4-1 pizzas, loving hand-made and packed with delicious toppings!

Decided to go to the The Fox Inn on the spur of the moneys between Christmas and New year. Staff were happy and helpful. The Food was not memorable but not bad. In my view not particularly good value for money. I am not impressed with most local pubs nowadays so it just might me getting old and grumpy

I always look forward to returning to The Fox. One is really spoilt for choices on the menu and everything is so tasty. The portions are more than generous and the service levels are hard to beat. 10/10

Visiting on a weekday lunchtime and had a fantastic, no frills, lunch. Portions fair to the price. Staff are friendly and down to earth. Menu has loads of options. Would definitely return!

Tried out the New Mexican themed menu items; really great food. The tacos were tangy, light and fresh with enough zing in the chilli beef to make them just too moreish...........I had a plate of four and ate six (two of Susie’s)...bad Robbie.

So a great meal for all of us last night and clean plates throughout. My homemade curry was delicious with just the right amount of accompaniments. Good value for money and a varied choice on the menu. Friendly and welcoming staff and young Scottie waited on our table admirably.

Sunday roast excellent - succulent lamb, great range of veg (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower cheese, parsnips) rich gravy and tasty mint sauce. The best bit however was the service - my 7yo daughter was hesitating over her breaded chicken goujons as she had a loose tooth that was bleeding and making chewing difficult. The very attentive manager/ landlord (Jamie I think) noticed this and asked the kitchen to prepare some lovely tender grilled chicken that was much easier to eat. Even refused payment for the extra dish. Don't see that level of service very often - well done on you.

We take it for granted, but Jamie and his amazing team serve up the best Pizza ever - and I've been to Italy many times. Thursday evenings are entirely focused around getting this delicious feast on the unbelievable 2 for 1 Pizza deal. If you're not taking up this offer you're missing out.

We ventured to the White Horse for the usual buy one pizza get one free in Tuesdays. BUT there was a sign on the White Horse front door saying sorry but as they opened Bank Holiday Monday they decided to close Tuesday!! What a let down!! Shame on you White Horse!! The Fox pizzas were excellent and we’re going back this Thursday for their very own BOGOF pizza night - looking forward to it ! Thanks again The Fox!

These were the best Fish and Chips that I have eaten in a long time - fresh fish hot chips - fabulous chicken - the mobile van is parked in The Fox car park if you are passing or if you have to drive out to Hermitage don’t hesitate to stop and buy these delicious fish and chips.

We stopped her on our way through for a Sunday lunch. I must say the food is not the best (similar to Toby /hungry horse) but you are still paying restaurant prices! The pub is nice and the staff are friendly but unfortunately we wouldn't return.
