The Fox & Hounds in Swindon

What a farce! I was so looking forward to having a lovely meal with my family, but the incompetence and rudeness of the staff completely ruined my visit! I have a list... 1 , before you give out the menu know what's available and what's not . 2 , have suitable options and if a error has occurred at the least show empathy instead of making the customer feel like they are being awkward. 3, if the customer gives you a dietary requirement, please do not bring out somthing which is not suitable fir them, and if they try and make your job easier by instead of sending the product back handing it to another family member , maybe don't include that item against their order , but allow it for a complimentary option , seeming it was the error of the kitchen. 4, when issuing the bill at least double check that the item which was not available, is not left on the bill . 5 , when the customer lets you know and explains that the meal they had and the service was not what is considered "good service" then the response given is "we are all human and it's a small mistake" 6 , then the staff member takes the bill away and takes forever to return it with not so much as a polite smile , but a real crappy attitude. 7, just maybe Fox and Hounds compensate for your mistakes and work on training a certain female staff member what good customer service looks like????

Went to lunch Sunday and had the roast dinner. We chose the beef, the service was great, the meal was amazing, except the beef was so tough we could not eat it. Such a shame as the rest was amazing, we did mention it at the time but was just shrugged off and not really acknowledge. So we mentioned it again at time of paying, and again was just shrugged off. We have been to lunch here many times and have never faulted it before. Such a shame would think twice now before going back..

After visiting Bath for the weekend, my Wife & I were looking for a place to stay. to extend our lovely sunny weekend. As we were passing the Fox & Hounds, on Booking.Com it showed it had one room left. What a find, the staff were extremely helpful & the room was lovely & perfect. We booked a table for dinner, which was delicious and they also had live music which was brilliant, a lovely unplanned evening. We booked breakfast for the next morning & this was absolutely fabulous too. Thank you to all the staff for making us welcome & for making the perfect end to our wonderful 40th Wedding weekend away.

Really disappointed after a colleague recommended this place. Arrived at 7pm and didn't get mains until around 8:30/8:40 (this was after 1 starter) after raising it with the waitress. She was lovely and said they had a large function on but it would have been good to know this in advance before we ordered so we would have been prepared for a wait. When the meals came out mine was extremely bland and my mum thought hers was too. The waitress apologised and offered to switch it for another meal but I didn't want anything given the wait time we already had so turned down the offer. So the meal was removed and taken off the bill. I feel a supervisor could have come over and had a word given the few times we had to speak to the waiting staff- assuming he was the man wondering around the the white shirt- but no apology was given from the supervisor. Really disappointed and won't be returning which was a shame as the pub is visually lovely and the outside garden looked lovely. Just very poor on the food.

5 star accommodation, 5 star food, 5 star entertainment All the staff were amazing apart from 1, would highly recommend this establishment yo anyone & everyone, the customers are also very friendly, dog friendly, can't wait to go again

The Foxes were brilliant at helping us plan my father's 80th Birthday surprise party. Every request was met without hesitation. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was excellent and plenty of it. You will not be disappointed with the portion sizes. The function room is warm and cosy and set the atmosphere well. We cannot thank them enough for all they did, a shout out to Nikki who was amazing the past 4 months trying to set things up and of course the chef and his team - there were clean plates at the end. Bar staff insisted on doing whatever they could to support us. Well done Foxes, we will be back soon !

Had a wonderful stay at the Fox & the Hound this weekend. The rooms are very clean, cosy and well functioning. We attended an engagement party, brilliant venue to host a private party. Good selection of drinks, the food is great!

We stayed onsite in one of the rooms which was well kept and cozy, whilst being of a good size. Had dinner the night before, and breakfast before departing. I recommend the eggs and streaky bacon!

Been here before and it was very good but on this occasion it was a bit of a disaster! We ordered our food the day before. Our meal was 2.30 but the food finally came out at 4.45. No apology or explanation. There was 15 of us and they had a party on so it was busy but nobody approached us. Food was OK. Some of us really enjoyed the food but some of us were disappointed. Then we were hit with a £30 service charge which we didn’t pay. I never write bad reviews but the final straw was receiving a parking ticket for £60! To be fair, that was our mistake but still annoying. As I’ve said, in the past had great meals there. This was poor but we will put it down to them being busy.

Me and my husband were visiting the area for the weekend and were looking for somewhere to eat and we found The Fox and Hounds. Great atmosphere, delicious food with lovely presentation, friendly staff (our waitress Roisin was a delight) We arrived early but our table was ready. Will definitely visit again if we're in the area.

I went there for dinner with my family. We had the WORST service. We had to wait over 45 minutes for any of our food and none of the staff would come over and explain the wait. The Staff were rude and unfriendly. We will never go here again.

Wow this place was a suprise. I had not been here for years but they have really up'ed their game. The food was excellant (9 of us), perfectly cooked steak, lamb and burgers! & service was fantastic. Pro's - Great Service - Greak cooking - Nice selection of drinks - Nice atmosphere - Reasonable Prices - Pretty Pub and very nicely done inside - Garden a decent side with what looked liked an outside bar and stage Con's - Could of done without the Balsmic sauce on the steak that overpowered a great cut of meat (this could of been my choice of sauce) - Around 21:00 the Karaoke started which made it diffulcult to talk in the main bar area which prompted us to leave. We would of stayed for another hour or so. - Garden a little tired but has great potential All in all highly recommended and I would definitely revisit but perhaps request a table not in the main bar area to avoid the karaoke!

Have eaten at the Fox and Hounds several times and the food is excellent. Recently had dinner with my family and had a pizza. It was outstanding, the cheese on top was just superb, absolutely delicious. Service is excellent, all staff and landlord are so friendly and efficient, nothing is too much trouble. There is weekly entertainment as well which is always great. Fabulous pub, wish I lived in walking distance!

This pub serves excellent food at pub prices. We have been there on at least eight occasions, and every time I have ordered their hot and spicy pizza. It is the best pizza I have ever eaten anywhere, including Rome.

A lovely and friendly place to be, food was a great and big portion. The restaurant had also a dog menu to treat. My dogs had roast dinner and they loved it. I will recommend and best to book a table ☺️

My friend and I went for dinner here this evening. Well! We weren't disappointed. All food was home prepared and tasted proper yummy. Excellent service from a great team of staff. A great pub with a proper atmosphere full of regulars supping at the bar! Can't go without mentioning the gorgeous Oakley , the dog who came to say hello... he's also a regular!!!

On Wednesday I booked a table for 5 to arrive at 7pm on Saturday. Having never visited before but passed it many times we were impressed that the car park was busy. Made us think we were in for a good evening if it was this popular. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case. When we opened the car doors the volume of the music was deafening. It was coming from, we found out later, a function for 100 people. After entering the car reg in the entrance to the pub it was obvious that there was something else going on as the pub was heaving. We were told the landlord had a private party going on as well. We were shown to our table which was right opposite a door leading to a function room with more deafening music. I asked if we could move and thankfully the waitress was very accommodating. We were shown to a table by the window only to be deafened by piped music coming from the speaker above our heads. I’m certainly not against music but at least keep it at a level where a conversation can be had. Not a good start. We did talk about leaving then (shame we didn’t) but as we were all hungry we persevered. Eventually we were able to place our food order. Two steak burgers with added cheese, a Southern fried chicken burger, belly pork with roasted vegetables and a chicken breast with a ‘Spanish’ style sauce. Some time after ordering a very apologetic young waitress came and told us the belly pork wasn’t available. So a pork chop was ordered as a replacement. We also placed an order for another round of drinks as we were advised it could be a long wait. And it was. When the food eventually arrived we couldn’t believe what we were being served. All the burgers were over cooked making them very dry. The buns were burnt. The chicken burger could have come from KFC and been better. The steak burgers (not sure where the cheese was) looked like McDonald's rejects and the pork chop couldn’t be cut even after requesting a steak knife. After waiting some time to attract the waitresses attention she said she would speak to someone about the problem. More time passed so the two men in the party started eating their meals. The rest of us picked at our food. Eventually the ‘deputy’ manager came over and agreed to credit the three meals we hadn’t eaten. He explained they were very busy and several staff had phoned in sick. All of which I explained wasn’t our problem and no excuse for poor service and inedible food. The two young girls waiting were run ragged we did tip them as they did their best. It would have been far better to have closed the food service and not taken any bookings than try to make as much money as possible and giving such poor service. What a shambles and never to be repeated by us.

This is my 2nd stay here. This time I brought my husband. Everything was perfect. I would love to call this my local 🤣. We will be back at the end of August for a long weekend stay. Thank you team for a. Amazing weekend. Xxxx

Came for drinks , lovely atmosphere, relaxed bar staff attentive and talkative made us feel welcome. Decided to have some snacks. Ordered a selection on starters and they were delicious! Would definitely recommend the chicken thighs they were to die for

This has been a difficult review to rate as some aspects of the experience were 5 star and others were 3 star (or less). This was our first visit to the pub and initial impressions were excellent. The large gardens appeared very good and the internal decor of the pub was great - there seemed to be a good atmosphere and it was quite friendly. The menu was extensive and the service to begin with was very good. Our mains arrived in a timely fashion, were served politely and the food was superb. After this things seemed to go downhill…….there wasn’t any particular haste to offer us desserts, despite the fact that we’d been told before we were seated that there was a time by which we had to vacate the table. Eventually our dessert order was taken and then we waited……. and waited……. and waited. We enquired as to the whereabouts of our 4 puddings repeatedly and were told - ‘the kitchen’s very busy’…….’they’ll be here soon’……’10 more mins’……’they’re just doing them’……etc etc until finally (after almost 50 minutes of waiting) they arrived. After all this, they were very disappointing - the sticky toffee pudding was particularly uninspiring, dry and hard. The pub was exceptionally busy, with a family event also going on in the function room, however, in our opinion pubs shouldn’t accept bookings if they’re unable to cope with the food orders. The final insult was that as we got up to leave, the table was cleared and wiped down whilst we were still putting on our coats and gathering our bags - making it quite clear they needed the table. This felt very rude given the time they’d made us wait. We’d spent over 2 ½ hours having a 2 course meal which might have been quite pleasant as an evening meal for a couple, but for lunch with a family was certainly not ideal.

Celebrated 🍾 our granddaughters 18th birthday. All the meals ordered were delicious, Served piping hot, nicely presented by a very friendly polite waitress. Nothing was too much trouble. The whole place made her feel very special. I would definitely recommend the Fox and Hounds. 5☆

Takeaway food was superb and full of flavour, arrived within the allotted time and packaged well! Would recommend and will look forward to experiencing the pub in person in the future.

Lovely evening meal. The place where we were staying was not serving meals, so recommended The Fox and Hounds. It was excellent.

We booked a table for 6 via their on-line booking system, but the booking was not received, however they were not busy so we got a table. Sat down to be told at least 5 or 6 items on the menu were not available. Drinks were ordered, but one was not served. Ordered a burger (gluten free) but they had not gluten free rolls. When I suggested the £1 cheese I had asked for could be discounted against the lack of roll, the staff were frankly rude. I suggested our experience was terrible and there was not any hint of apology. Over priced and over inflated sense of the quality of their food and service.

The food was superb, the setting stunning and beautifully decorated for Christmas, the service was exemplary and caring and the three plus hours we spent over lunch really kick-started Christmas.

We were invited to a friend's 50th birthday. She had booked the Fox's Den room. There were about 40 in the party and we'd all pre ordered.Given the size of the party all the food came out together and was hot. Overall my food was good. My starter was a bit bland Chinese style dumplings. But the steak was delicious.Very impressed

Visited this pub yesterday evening with 3 friends for a catch up meal. It’s a very tidily presented and cosy sort of pub and well set up to cater for diners. The 4 of us selected different choices from a menu that certainly looked to include something for all appetites. There is also a ‘specials board’ which definitely enhances and supplements the regular menu.The food is freshly prepared and when ours arrived I don’t think anyone was disappointed with either the quality or the quantity. It is also worth mentioning the staff who were attentive, friendly and very helpful. Overall this can only be judged as a very positive and enjoyable experience - I would recommend the Fox and Hounds to others.

Having been able to find a table at another pub nearby, after a lot of searching we came across the Fox & Hounds - and we were very glad that we did. It has a very interesting menu, not run of the mill like many other pubs of this type. I had the three bean smoky chilli, which was delicious - just the right amount of spice. The lady serving us was extremely friendly, cheerful and helpful. We came away resolving that we would come here again.

We were staying at the Holiday Inn Express a few miles away and were looking for somewhere to have dinner when we came across the Fox & Hounds. The bar staff were great and made us feel really welcome (as did the waitress later). As it was early so we booked a table then spent an hour enjoying drinks in the sun in the well maintained garden, it was nice to find clean painted trestle table rather than the more usual mildew.Inside it looks newly refurbished and the decor could be best described as 'quirky' but it is a nice comfortable environment to enjoy a meal.The menu doesn't offer an extensive choice which I always take as a good sign - better to cook some things well rather than try to cook everything possible. There were also some specials on offer. We all enjoyed our food, in my case I had calamari followed by a pork chop in a delicious sauce with fresh cooked vegetables (too many, I couldn't eat them all) and mash. I don't hesitate to recommend this as a pub to either enjoy a meal or just a drink. At weekend I think it would be advisable to book in advance because it was very busy.(This is the second time I've submitted this review because the fox & Hounds is also in Tripadvisor as an attraction for some reason)

First visit here for breakfast and it definitely won't be the last. Great value for money and probably the best breakfast we have eaten in a very long time.Fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, cereals, delicious croissants, a full English breakfast with sausages to die for. We went to the fox for dinner with a group of 8 friends for a birthday celebration. What a fantastic evening we had! The service was outstanding as was the food. It’s so nice to see these smaller village pubs getting it right in so many ways. The atmosphere, the ambiance, everything was spot on! Please keep up the good work! We will definitely be back!

Not much else to say accept the bar staff (woman) spoke badly about the customers ver loud- was unwelcoming

We have stayed here for numerous weeks and continue to come back whilst my husband works in Swindon. We absolutely love this pub it is a real gem. The food is always freshly cooked and of a high standard for a great price with a varied menu and special board. If you are around on a Sunday then you would be mad not to have the Sunday roast it's a real treat especially the Yorkshire pudding. The accommodation is spotless and stylish with lovely decked patios onto some of the rooms. The staff and owners could not be more helpful and nothing is ever too much trouble. Together they have created such a fabulous public house which is simply the best you could hope to find ( and we have stayed at many!). Highly, highly recommended.

Lovely warm and friendly welcome today for my mums wake..held in separate room. Food and service great. On this sad occasion we can only praise the staff in how well we're looked after. Tasty buffet and swift service. Cosy room with log fire and fairy lights. A special thankyou to Tracey.

Have visited here 3 times in the past month for Sunday roasts & each time the food has been absolutely exemplary. Service is second to none. Everything comes out piping hot. Vegetables are perfectly cooked & plentiful. Pub is wonderfully decorated for Christmas, fantastic effort & above the norm. Toilets are clean & stylishly done. Can’t recommend this place enough.... please keep it up (as with the Weighbridge having gone to pot lately this is definitely my new reliable place to come...)

Lovely clean pub, newly decorated, standard pub menu. Rooms were spotless and of very good size! Very quiet and is far enough away from pub and entrance. Stayed in family room (with wet room) - had 2 balconies. Would recommend.

Went to this pub few years ago, now much improved and nice place to eat, food was really nice and prices not to bad, pub was busy but the service was prompt, and the waitress friendly.

Stayed for two nights. Very friendly welcome on arrival. Really lovely food and excellent service on both nights. All The staff were very friendly and helpful. Decor in the pub/restaurant is lovely. Rooms are very clean and again decor is lovely. Would highly recommend.

We went here for my friends birthday on Saturday, we booked to stay the night and booked in for dinner. I'm not one to usually write a review but was so impressed with this place I felt I had too. The service we received was simply lovely, nothing was too much for these gracious hosts, The food was simply outstanding, we all ordered the fillet steak, everyone asked for it to be done to their liking, which it was, my mum notoriously doesn't like any kind of vegetables , only pea's, which weren't on the menu but they went out of their way and gave her pea's with an extra pot of gravy on the side! the quality of the bedrooms are fab, the small touches, like having bottles of water in the room, TV's and shower gel in the shower (something I always forget) the rooms are all spacious, some with a lovely balcony area over looking the paddock where I enjoyed a cup of tea watching the sun rise. The breakfast the next day was exceptional, they catered to everyone's needs, offering a continental breakfast with pastries to a good old English breakfast, adapted to your own requirements. The staff were all so friendly and helpful I genuinely couldn't have asked for more on this special day. We have already booked for the fire work celebrations in November! Cant wait to return here!

Visited here with members of my family for a mid-week early evening meal and get together. One of my grand-daughters has a restricted diet and we made a simple request for something that was not on the menu (there was nothing listed on the very restricted menu that she could eat). Staff so un-helpful that we walked out and went to another pub just down the hill (on the opposite side of the road) where they could not have been kinder or more helpful. So for the sake of good customer relations and kindness to a child they lost out on 9 meals and drinks. One mark for the hanging baskets. I will not go there again

New owner extremely rude! Roast lamb ordered, Roast Beef delivered. Even though we were told it was lamb, three of us tried and it was definitely beef! Waitresses lovely though, couldn’t do enough to help! Sediment in the wine and a lot more Gluten free options needed.

Today we as a family had lunch at the Fox and it didn't disappoint, our waitress was new to the job but was very helpful, the food was very good and the bill was reasonable, what more can you ask for. We will be returning soon.

Visited for lunch on a Wednesday. Was busy but well managed. Lovely welcome from lady behind bar who assured me it was fine to take our dog in the beer garden. Couldn't fault the food,drinks or service. We live in Swindon but have never heard of the pub. I call it a hidden gem in wroughton and well worth a visit. Didn't know the name of the lady behind the bar but she deserves an award for excellent customer service. Will definitely return

The food was of the highest quality, good portions and well presented. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. No request was too much of an obstacle.

Stayed for one week working in the local area. The bar area is fantastic and very up to date. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are absolutely amazing and a few even have a private decking terrace. I would recommend to anyone.

We visited this pub/restaurant on 6 June for the first time. Despite the fact that we are shortly moving we will definitely re-visit before we go at the end of July.

We booked the Fox & Hounds for Sunday lunch after a walk in the area. The owners have done a great job of refurbishing the pub; it has a light, yet cosy feel to it. The Sunday roasts were great, & the meals were excellent value. My only problem (& this was the same when I had eaten at the pub before) was with the waiting staff. They were not rude, but it felt as though they had never served food or drink before.

Great service from friendly staff, very helpful with food allergies and the food is absolutely gorgeous! Great prices too. If I lived nearer id definetely be back again.

Dropped in to check out the Fox and Hounds. Seemed to have been refurbished recently and looked very smart. Plenty of seating. Arkells beer not our favourite but still two nice beers here. Need to try the food next time.

Family dinner on a Wednesday with 2 Rump Steaks for £15.00. Could not fault the food, hospitality of staff, great place to visit and dine X

Stayed here on business after recommendations from colleagues but sadly disappointed. The accommodation is basic and honestly poor and dirty. The pub is ok but overpriced food and poor beer let it down.

I'm not sure why this restaurant is still showing 4.5 stars. I live in the village and badly want to support all local pubs and eateries however having been to the fox 3 times now, nothing has changed. The environment and staff are fine however the length of wait for food is unacceptable! If the pub is busy of quiet, you still have to wait between 40 min and an hour.

Was recommended by innkeeper and we were not disappointed. Food is basic but good. Frequented by locals.

Sunday Roast and a pudding for £13.50. Can't really complain at that. Food was plentiful and well cooked. Pleasant surroundings and a good atmosphere. Burgers, Curries etc offered Monday to Wednesday also look like good deals. Would happily return.

We had a great lunch here Saturday lunchtime. The staff were friendly and the decor is great. There was lots to choose from on the menu and the food was really good. Great fish and chips with nice chunky chips and a really delicious fish pie. The puds were good too. Nice kids menu as well. I would recommend this pub.

We were lucky enough o be able to visit here on two occasions. First time for a traditional delicious Fish and Chip supper. Then, on Sunday, although quite late in the afternoon they served us with a superb Sunday Lunch. The Staff were extremely friendly and did all they could to make our visit one to remember. Hope we can go there again sometime.

Visited this pub for an evening meal whilst in the area after passing earlier in the day. The food on offer was varied and the the items chosen turned out to be very good. The staff were very pleasant and everything was delivered in a professional manner.
