Excellent Value, Great staff. Extensive imaginative menu. Good atmosphere. What a country pub should be. Ample parking

We went for our 32nd Wedding Anniversary. The food was excellent and so was the Service. We often pass through Coombe Bisset and always use your pub.

Unplanned stop for lunch. Very friendly staff and the food was of a very high standard. My husband had the special and it was a good sized portion. I had a starter but added a salad to make it a main course. The cheesy mushroom starter is to die for.

Great menu choice, well kept ale and prompt friendly service. This was not our first visit and we shall definitely be visiting the Fox and Goose again in the not too distant future.

Good spot for lunch - we were seated and served very quickly. The food was good - especially the vegetarian offering of polenta with a poached egg, asparagus and hollandaise.🥲

Visited here by accident as I was passing and decided to try. The venue was busy as it was a Sunday and lots of of roasts going on . The clientele look as though they are all locals and think well of the venue. Prices are reasonable and the food is good quality, service was a bit hit and miss but assume this was because it was a busy time. The toilets are modern clean and very good. A garden out the back was busy with diners also. Staff are friendly, the atmosphere was of a genuine local pub with regulars . The Decor is dated but traditional pub furniture

Came across this establishment by chance on our way to Salisbury and decided to stop for lunch The reception was excellent and meals and desserts were unbelievable If you ever pass this way you will thoroughly enjoy the most splendid meals

Central for meeting with family from Poole, Weymouth and N E Hampshire. Great to miss the hassle of parking in Salisbury. Everywhere clean. All staff very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent.

Just drove past on the way to Salisbury from Blandford and saw this pub served food 12-9 and decided to pop in. Absolutely delighted we did. The food that the wife and I had was superb. Mains and dessert home cooked. The staff are cheerful and friendly. This is one of those places that makes you wish you were a local. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Everything about this place was lovely the staff the food and the facilities where just wonderful! The kids enjoyed the play park in the garden. Food and drinks where good price too. Will be back 100% .

I popped into the fox and goose when my vehicle was having issues.Whilst waiting for the AA I asked for some lunch (being diabetic type 1, this is a necessity)The staff were happy to help serve me up some food.All the signs and precautions are visible with regards to covid and staff are wearing masks.Can not fault any of them, this pub has genuine nice staff! After booking very short notice the manager very kindly offered us a table. We received very good service and food and the pub had friendly helpful staff. Good value for money

Wonderful steak and sausage pie at the Fox & goose!I visited on a particularly cold Monday night in May. I asked the locals and landlord for a recommendation and unanimously the pie was recommended. It didn’t disappoint; real shortcrust pastry and a well filled portion with some excellent vegetables (very much enjoyed the spiced red cabbage) washed down with some very nicely kept real ale. Nice atmosphere and a very friendly welcome.

We booked an early evening meal as our granddaughter was coming too. The staff were attentive and very welcoming. The menu was varied and there was something to suit all tastes. I had a wonderful lamb shank with creamy mash and vegetables. The restaurant soon filled up so was obviously very popular. Our granddaughter really enjoyed the play area. A very enjoyable evening.

We were passing and popped in for a quick sandwich lunch to break a journey.There's a big covered area, but the weather was good enough for us to sit on the well-spaced tabled in the sunshine. The welcome was both warm and efficient, and our food was good and arrived quickly.Would definitely return for a full meal.

We were down here on holiday and had an amazing meal, definitely proper home cooked food and local beer, big garden with covered areas for outside dining. Best thing was the amazing and friendly service, it seemed like lots of customers were regulars but we were made to feel very welcome! Thanks so much for a great evening, will be back :)

As we had been unable to visit during the lockdown We booked for Sunday Lunch when it reopened it was good to see all the staff again and be greeted with a smile under their masks. The restaurant tables were well spaced. The roast chicken lunch was lovely and also the desserts all with excellent service hope they stay in tier 2 so we can visit again soon

As usual our last visit to the above, (now in tier 2) was just as good as always. Mine host is attentive and together with their staff make a visit well worth while.

We came across the Fox and Goose looking for a walk to do in the area. It was the day after the end of the second lockdown and they had got a roaring fire going, the place was warm and welcoming. We had a winter ploughman’s with a mug and delicious and innovative beetroot and apple soup and bread and cheese with pickle. Two lovely glasses of Pinot Grigio to go with it. Excellent service, friendly people and good food. Lovely walk which is actually on their website along the chalk combe of Combe Down. Pub seemed very Covid safe with good distances between tables.

Nearly all the reviews are very good and it's noticeable that the owner responds in most if not all cases. Well done and something other establishments could do well to copy.

We visited the fox and goose whilst on Holiday in the area recently. We visited on a Monday night and were pleased to be able to get a table as everywhere seems to be closed on a Monday in the area? Upon arrival we were greeted at the front door and asked to fill in our contact details for the purpose of Covid track and trace before being shown to our table. Our table was spotlessly clean and correctly spaced from the others. We ordered our drinks and were given our menu's. We ordered the fishcakes of the day which were cod, bacon and brie and rump steak. I normally only choose fillet but really fancied steak so decided to take a chance and was not disappointed. The steak was cooked exactly as requested, was tender and full of flavour. The fish cakes were also nice. For desserts we chose chocolate fudge cake which was lovely and light and lemon tart which was deliciously sharp. The service was polite, friendly and efficient throughout and the Covid measures in place were some of the best that we came across during our holiday in the area. We would return and would not hesitate to recommend.

Stopped at this pleasant, roomy inn on our way down to Dorset. There’s a big car park. The pub Is well set up for the ‘time of Covid’, very dog friendly and the staff are friendly, cheerful and helpful. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty and this was an altogether pleasant lunchtime. Just shows that with mutual respect for the rules, something very close to ‘normal’ life can still be enjoyed.

Lunch meeting up of 4 friends. I felt a bit too close to an occupied neighbouring table, we were quickly offered another and were informed about the minimum distance and directional rules they adhere to. Three of us were very happy with our meals, lasagne and 2 pies. The scampi was not enjoyed so much, the diner just said he was disappointed, sorry haven’t any more detail. Great beer and good coffee as well even served with a chocolate.

My wife and i decided to stop here for a pub lunch on our way to the south coast of Dorset. We would certainly recommend to anyone taking the same journey or passing by this public house. If available try the special, i had the lamb steak and it was beautiful.

I visited the venue for the first time in almost ten yeas, and I have to be honest and say that it has certainly gone downhill since my last visit.I came with some business colleagues, one of whom works at the EU Civil Service, and we were appalled by the xenophobic attitude of the staff and customers.On our previous visit we had a wonderful meal and great service, however on this occasion we left after one drink.

The Sunday roast lamb was as tasty as home cooked and the service was very friendly - a lovely experience - relaxed, professional and efficient as usual. Recommend the new chocolate pud for afters!

Went here Wednesday food was ok ! No one came and asked if the food was ok . We sat waiting for 30 minutes for more drinks and order a pudding no one came so had to go to bar and pay all they said was they were busy will not go here again

My wife and I had driven from Weymouth when a “comfort stop” was requested shortly after leaving Blandford. “Don’t worry, I’ll stop at the next pub or petrol station”. 20 miles further on and absolutely nothing. Eventually dropped down into Coombe Bisset and spotted the “Fox and Goose”. Real serendipity. A friendly welcome from landlord Keith - so decided to have lunch in their lovely garden. My wife had whitebait with a lovely mixed salad. I had the curry of the day (Pathia chicken) which came with a popadum and mango chutney - both first class. Service was excellent and meal excellent value. I only wish the Fox and Goose was closer to where we live.They have sensible covid-19 controls and the toilets are first class... Thanks again to Keith and the team

The landlord and landlady did us proud in the village with their takeaways all through lockdown. The first week it was over we went back to discover that the 'dine in' was as good as ever in their lovely pub. Also a pint or two of 'Sixpenny' slipped down a treat. Thank you Keith and Sue.

This pub was recommended to us by the owner of the caravan park we stayed at. It was brilliant. Lovely, smiley staff, very efficient and well organised Covid regs in place. Delicious meals. Top class. Superb Mars cheesecake too omg!!

Post-lockdown review. Place is COVID-19 ready, they are antibacing tables and chairs and keeping social diets icing in mind. Just had a lovely meal out at this pub. The food was fantastic, wife had deep fried Brie, nut roast and mars bar cheesecake. I had pate, pie and crumble. Chips were perfect, veg was lovely. Staff were really friendly and stopped to have a chat despite being busy. Really lovely place, would recommend.

Having now reopened, post lockdown, this great pub offers superb food and excellent friendly service by the management and staff alike. We were particularly impressed when we visited last week to see how well they have ensured customer and staff safety at all times in all areas. The 'covid safe' surroundings are very reassuring and certainly don't detract from the wonderful atmosphere which is always present at this lovely pub. Highly recommended!

Excellent attention to detail - no need to be worried here ! Even loos cleaned as you use them ! Support this business - they really have done themselves proud - food looks good too but already got tonight’s dinner in the caravan.

First visit back since Covid and despite all the restrictions in place it still felt like the homely friendly pub that we had always known. The food and service was absolutely excellent, credit to Keith and all the staff for the great experience. We have already booked two more dates and can’t wait to come back!!

A lovely little country pub just outside Salisbury. Has a good selection on the menu with the option for 'the smaller appetite' on some of the dishes. Well kept and a lovely atmosphere.

Really great atmosphere, the manager and two waitstaff (young male and female) were really polite and friendly and checked in a few times to make sure all was good. I recently passed my drivers test so took my sister out to a random pub we haven't visited before as a change. Prices were totally worth it and food was delicious!!

Thank you for a great family meal today. Around 20 of us enjoyed a great meal, deserts and drinks. We always enjoy great service here and excellent food. We will be back again!

We happened to drive by the Fox & Goose after leaving Salisbury and it looked very appealing from the outside. The inside was a warm, cosy and quiet pub with ample seating and a really nice atmosphere. Our lovely waitress Amelia showed to us a table and then our orders. She was very helpful with the menu and very warm and friendly. They had a lot of great selections, and we chose the curry and lasagna and were very pleased. It was nice to be able to order dinner at our table and have it served a short time later. The owner came over to greet us and made us feel very welcome. I hope we'll be able to return there before long.

Visited this establishment twice in the last month and ordered dishes from the "specials" board,and enjoyed two of the best meals that I have had for a long time. Although I live someway away will definitely revisit when I am in the area.

Called in here Sat lunch time , nice friendly pub , lovely log fire , had toasted sarnies , & chips ,( very dry even with loads of salt ) nice enough, the place could do with a good refit if i'm honest .

Travelling home from York with my sister who was over from Australia we had told her that we would be dropping in at the Fox & Goose for a roast. It was full!! There was a carol concert on, just as we walked back out the door we were called back in. They had managed to get us on a table for 3. Service is fantastic, the roast turkey dinner was excellent and once again my sister went for a pie. This was also amazing. The place was rocking with great people and the staff were amazing. Its our favourite place top when on our way back from north of there. Thank you you for finding us a table. Merry Christmas to you all. See you in 2020.

I first came across this place in the Summer and enjoyed the lovely beer garden on sunny days.. I returned again on Monday for a light lunch and find this place to be very welcoming with a nice atmosphere. The service is very good and there is a wide choice of menu with a good selection of special dishes on the board daily. Nicely presented and tasty food...Keep up the good work..I am looking forward to my next visit pre Xmas.

We arrived here earlier than we anticipated. But where quite happy to have a welcome cup of coffee, in front of a roaring fire, very friendly landlord, we felt very comfortable chatting to him. The kitchen actually opened earlier than midday, the waiter was very polite, our drinks and meal arrived, and we were not dissapointed. Good home cooked food, reasonably priced. Very attentive staff. This is not the first time we have been here, but it remains consistently good, so many country pubs fall away from serving good homely food, and seem to think we all want boutique type pubs, with 6 chips and a bean sprout on our plate. Well. Most of us don't. Thank you Fox and Goose.

We had a table booked for 2pm and when we arrived, the table wasn't ready, so we sat around until the tables were vacated 30 mins later. The thing about 2pm is that we were already hungry, so it was a bit frustrating to wait for so long. Once seated, it was 15 mins until we placed our order and the food arrived within 10 minutes which sometimes sets off alarm bells. My stuffed peppers were OK - stuffed with broccoli and kidney beans in a spicy sauce. It was served with a mound of iceberg lettuce and raw red onion with a few matchsticks of peppers on top.

Monday 30th September in the evening, not over busy, just a we like it. Six people, three courses and coffee. Excellent beer. Really good friendly service and a nice menu both everyday and the day's specials board. Very enjoyable.

We ate here after visiting the local village. It was a sunny day so we sat out in the garden which was nice The pub is also dog friendly. Very clean toilets. The food was nice but not the best pub food I've ever had. Ample parking.

Called prior to visit to book a table for Saturday lunchtime. Four + one small dog called in for a pint, then took off on one of the published walks (3.7 m) from the pub. Nice walk; across the river, through a nature reserve, and over the downs. Then back to the Fox & Goose for an excellent lunch. As we had a dog with us, we could have sat outside in a safely enclosed garden, but chose the comfortable dog-friendly bar area. (There is a separate dining area for those without dogs). Good menu; several specials; served with good selection of vegetables. Excellent friendly service and reasonably priced. Nothing was too much trouble.

Delicious Sunday Roast. Red-Cabbage superb!!! Fluffy Yorkshires, tasty Gravy and generous (meat😊) portions. Very nice Strawberry-Cheescake. Excellent dining experience❤

Two of us stopped here for an early dinner on a Saturday. We had beer and wine plus scampi and lamb casserole. There is plenty of room in the eating areas: inside, outside under cover and outside in the garden. We were surprised t wasn't busier. The food arrived quickly and was very good.

Was slightly disappointed. The reviews are excellent and we've been meaning to come for ages. Loved the pub, garden, service, etc. Menu good but only one Sunday roast (we were eating late afternoon). I often find pubs on a Sunday can be less good than usual, maybe different kitchen arrangements because they're busy? I don't know. Anyway my son had ham egg and chips, I had lasagne, husband had roast. It all came within 10mins which isn't that reassuring. My lasagne was a very good homemade one but rather bland in taste. Egg and chips are always just that. Roast potatoes were pretty rubbish. All very good prices and my complaints are minor niggles. I will definitely try them again another time though as I rarely write a place off on first try.

What a lovely friendly pub. A good choice on the menu too. We both had the fish and chips. All delivered really hot and fresh. Plenty of thick fish too. Washed down with a beer shandy on a hot day, what more could you ask for.

Was drawn to this pub due to a rather amusing review on trip advisor. Greeted by a lovely lady with blue hair who gave us menus and told us to sit where ever we would like, served by a young lad - very amenable. Popped in to avoid the afternoon rush hour. Pate and fried brie starters. The mains were exceptional, steak and chips cooked to perfection, fish and chips, onion rings and mushroom sides. Salad was a little dry and the coffee wasn't all that. Less lipstick on the gin and tonic glass and it would have been 5 stars, no entertaining discomfort stories to share. Good pub grub, would go again

Lovely staff, good grub and a good range of well kept beers. Sat in the garden on a lovely evening and had a relaxing family meal, kids played in the play area and loved it. Well worth a visit. Very switched on to allergies and food intolerance if that is of concern to you, speak to the staff they are very helpful. With regard to price I find it very reasonable, I have listed it as mid-range but what you consider as mid range is very subjective. I would call it very good value for money.

We stopped here on our way to Weymouth. The sun was shining and we all enjoyed sitting outside. The children were able to play on the obstacle course. But the very best bit was the food! I’m coeliac and usually find it difficult to just stop in somewhere, but they had a menu with all the gluten/dairy free items labelled. They were also able to advise which specials were suitable. I had the beef stifado off the specials which was delicious. (I’m currently googling recipes to recreate it at home!) My husband had a jacket potato which was generously topped with prawns and a large side salad. Our children (aged 3 and 5) shared the smaller portion of lasagna, salad and garlic bread. They also had a few chips too. All excellent! Staff were friendly and attentive. We are now wondering if we can plan in a stop on our way home too!

We came here twice on the way home during the CVHF and enjoyed it.The beer was good and the service friendly and we enjoyed listening to the band practice.While my partner generally enjoyed her food however I thought that it was poor especially the Thai curry which was tasteless.

We popped in for a quick lunch on our way back from Weymouth. I can’t tell you how surprised we were with what was behind the front doors . Beautiful place and the beer garden was very big . The young lady behind the bar was very helpful and smiling the whole time we were there . Food was lovely and we will definitely be returning.

Wonderful visit to such a well worked pub. Staff were friendly, helpful and accommodated our needs as soon as they could. The food is superb, big complements to the chef. The landlord couldn’t have been nicer and attended to us on a regular but fitting basis.

Salisbury has an abundance of restaurants however; we have always found that the Fox and Goose is worth the small car journey in order to guarantee a great meal every single time.

We stayed closeby and wanted a simple dinner. It was nice bar food, simple, tasty and not very expensive.

Stopped off here while out on the Ducatis today. Great lunch, nice atmosphere and plenty of parking space. Will make this one a regular stop on the ride outs.

We travel down from Northampton to meet friends travelling up from Weymouth for lunch from time to time. Always rely on a standard menu but with Daily Specials that vary. Good food, served quickly and well presented. Reasonable prices too. All staff are welcoming not only to 'humans' but the doggy kind too - with little bone doggy biscuits as a 'treat'. Four of us had different meals this week: chicken curry, scampi and chips, thai fishcake and toasted cheese & onion sandwich. We all chose the 'smaller' meal as we know this is a good size for us with the smaller appetities!!

Lovely welcoming atmosphere and superb staff. Our friends always ask uf we can go there we gave recommended it so often and use it ourselves for all our outings and celebrations.

Precioso jardín en la parte de atrás y aunque era festivo y muy soleado, el jardín no estaba lleno y el servicio era bueno. ¡Habrá que volver por esta ruta solo para visitar!

Durante una reciente estancia en Salisbury, decidimos volver a visitar este establecimiento, ya que sabíamos que la comida y la bebida eran de alta calidad. Esta vez nos dimos cuenta de que no solo el personal era tan amable, acogedor y cortés como antes, sino que la calidad de la comida era extraordinaria y que el personal era más apasionado en ofrecer una experiencia de primera clase para cada uno de los clientes del establecimiento. La comida aquí es de bajo PRECIO por la calidad que significa que, como cliente, siempre tendrá un ganador aquí.

Attentive staff and present landlord. Served 3 times at table and able to order more drinks when young lad came to offer. Breath of fresh air for the weary traveller, and nice to see such kindness bestowed on 2 people just passing by.

Auf der Rückreise zu unserm Cottage nach einem langen Ausflugstag freuten wir uns eigentlich auf ein leckeres Pub-Essen und wählten das Fox and Goose. Leider wurden wir hier enttäuscht. Nicht nur, dass das Essen hier einem englischen Pub nicht würdig ist, leider war auch der Service unfreundlich und unaufmerksam, obwohl es so gut wie unbesucht war. Es wurde lieber mit einigen an der Bar sitzenden Herren gelacht und geflirtet und mitten im Schankraum laut lachend ausprobiert, welche der Kellnerinnen das Bein höher werfen kann. Für den Rest unseres Urlaubs suchten wir uns ein Pub mit ein wenig mehr Stil!

Our hosts squeezed 7 of us in for lunch even though they were fully booked...this was much appreciated. There was a wide choice of food on the menu, something to suit everyone. The food was delicious, the service excellent, clean and comfortable surroundings, would definitely recommend.

Recently took my elderly mother (93 and in a wheelchair) to your establishment for a meal at lunch time as she adores your pub, the doors were closed due to it being an exceptionally windy day, as soon as the young lady behind the bar saw me struggling to manoeuvre my mother through the first door she came and very kindly held the second door open for us and then proceeded to direct us to the table my mother wanted to sit at, moving chairs to make are way a whole lot easier.
