The Fox Fremington in North Devon

I was recommended the Foxes Sunday carvery from a work colleague, Today is my birthday so i went for a try having booked a table 4 days previously, What can i say? The best Carvery i have ever had, The beef melted in my mouth and there was a lot of choice with the add-ons like Dauphinoise potato's, Creamy leeks, Stuffing balls etc and all the Perfect roast spuds and veg you could want, It was perfectly seasoned, Freshly cooked and piping hot, Definitely going back for another bash!

Very tasty carvery. Bit tight on meat allowance but the accompanying food and vegetable sides are lush. The bakes for pudding are also very very tasty!

Really lovely friendly pub, great staff & excellent Sunday lunch carvery. Booking advised as it's very popular, but it's a bonus that you can eat a late lunch as they serve until 4pm. A wonderful selection of tasty fresh vegetables which are all replenished regularly & the meat options are cooked how they should be. I always pre-order the vegetarian option for myself & have had nut roasts or a fantastic vegetable wellington made by Adam, one of the chefs. I also have my own veggie gravy & I wouldn't change a thing! Can't fault it & we will keep going back. A super family run pub! Well done Team Fox.

Went with my family for mothers day and had the carvery, it was amazing, tasty, hot and loads of choice, no overcooked or dried out vegetables. They were very busy and the service didn't faulter either. We'll definatley be back.

Been here a couple of times for Sunday carvery. Always friendly and you do need to book. Don’t bother via Facebook messenger as they ignore it. Good selection of food, nice crackling on pork and everything hot, including the plates. Honeycomb cheesecake was delicious

We visited here on Sun, after reserving a table, as a family of nine to experience the carvery that we had heard so much about. Well it certainly lived up to its reputation. The food was really well presented with a choice of 3 meats and a huge selection of vegetables all well cooked and nice and hot. Well done everyone concerned, I would highly recommend and will not hesitate to return again. Thank you

You won't go wrong here. The best sunday lunch in North Devon IMO. Great choice of perfectly cooked meats, the veg cookery is super and the service attentive and super friendly. You'll not be disappointed.

A gorgeous family-owned pub with a fantastic atmosphere and delicious food. Our carvery was one of the best we've ever enjoyed with flavoursome, tasty ingredients, gigantic proportions of meat, light fluffy Yorkshire puddings, crispy roast potatoes and a sublime variety of vegetables. The potato dauphinoise is to die for. Highly recommended!!

They found space for my mum and I for an earlier lunch which was great of them, considering I should have booked earlier! Amazingly friendly, thoughtful and helpful staff, Great selection of roast meat, even rare beef ( unheard of in a carvery generally) pork with great crackling. Loads of veg. to choose from and even small appetite plate was good size. Did squeeze in a pud and the treacle tart was lovely. We will book earlier next time....thank you x

Tried lots of carverys on a Sunday and none seem to come up to scratch , thought I would try this place as someone else said it was very good , they were not wrong it’s amazing , lovely fresh cooked food , lots of variety and lovely gravy. Desserts are also excellent . Will definitely be back .

Being my local along with the New Inn I think the Fox is superb. Always a friendly atmosphere and have a good time when I go there. Regular live music but no food.

A nice little pub in Fremington village with a reasonably good choice of ales on tap. Nice to sit in front of he pub with a beer and a few friends and chat.

Wow this place! Absolutely gorgeous food! Really great prices for the quality of the food! We have had take away and a sit down meal.. service was great and swift. Food was all freshly cooked and just incredible. Cannot wait for out return :)

Friendly, Friendly, Friendly. Go and have a drink with "The Butlers". Guy and Tracy are as welcoming as you could ever wish for.Regular live music adds to the attraction of a great range of drink and being made to feel welcome by all the staff.Oh, and the bus stop right outside means that you don't have to drive!Enjoy for a quiet pint or two or stay on and join the party.

Mi esposa y yo fuimos para un borracho y un curry como siempre nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos la comida es divina, regados con unos sidras. La comida era fresca y sabrosa. El Cordero y el pollo era todo cortes volveremos muy pronto.

Había estado aquí un par de veces con la familia y amigos y ha sido muy satisfechos y quedamos impresionados con la comida y el servicio. Sin embargo, en mi última visita, el servicio era tan diferente. La comida era muy lento en llegar, aunque el lugar no estaba del todo lleno. La camarera parecía más interesado en hablar con su novio de los clientes. La comida cuando llegue era muy buena.

No tenía idea de esta ubicación tenía un menú completo de india. Fuimos entre semana no es necesario reservar. Gran selección en el menú y el servicio era rápido y amable. Los precios eran más altos en el extremo tenía una principal, arroz y pan que era 15 libras. La comida era de buena calidad fresca y sabrosa. Recomendaría a otros y volveremos.

Been here a few times. Friendly local pub with a nice atmosphere. The Indian Kitchen is the real treat. Good curry at a bargain price. Friendly staff too. Recommended.

Hemos estado en este pub en muchas ocasiones como siempre podías conseguir un buen curry. Por desgracia, su chef original y no la Izquierda ha sido la misma desde entonces. Visitamos recientemente y la comida nos pareció bastante soso y un plato era muy salada al punto donde tuve un dolor al día siguiente (no a el vino). Por desgracia, cuando me dijeron que la comida era salada me hizo sentir incómoda y que satisfizo a la defensiva, más que con el fundamentación se supone. Es una pena, ya que me gusta mucho el ambiente personal y los pubs, la comida es una decepción.

Was told about the Fox and visited , superb food and the barman could not have been more helpful on food and drink..will make this our regular from now on despite the distance from home

Been to the Fox before when down in Devon, and it was realy nice, our latest visit was disappointing, we took friends there for a meal only to find they no longer serve food.

We came here the night the new head chef started. Have eaten here before and food was lovely. The new chef did the place proud. The food was really tasty and our waiter was very attentive, without being in our faces. Great atmosphere in the bar area. Prices very reasonable too.

Having recently found out the pub has its own Indian kitchen myself and a friend went to try it out. The menu was extensive and the food was excellent. Well worth a visit if you like Indian cuisine.

We come here from time to time for a curry. Consistently good food, service is always prompt and efficient. Nice atmosphere of happy locals on a Saturday evening.

Stayed in Barnstaple for two nights 3rd and 4th July. We had planned to have a Curry on the first night but The Fox and the food was so good we returned on the second night.The pub is very clean and well appointed and the food was fantastic.The staff were very attentive and pleasant. The same young lady served us on both nights.

From the outside it looks attractive and nice. You reach the inside and its basically a pub when dinning chairs and tables, again still quite nice though. The candles are a nice touch. The service by the two women was on point and the curries we ate were warm and tasty. The mint sauce along with the other sauces and popadoms were absolutely lovely, but the peshwari Nan has quite a lot almond oil for my liking but thats probably just how they make it. I do feel its quite expensive for what it is and I thought the portion size was a little small when it came out but was very satisfied. Overall it was a good night out. For two curries, one rice, nan, and 2 soft drinks you'd expect to pay around the £30 mark. Would probably come again if it was a little cheaper.

My partner and I have come here for a takeaway and to sit in. Each time has been excellent. The chicken madras is lovely, especially with the raita sauce. The staff are lovely and always made sure we are happy and have everything we need.The atmosphere of the place is great and feels welcoming. The menu has a wide variety to chose from, which covers everyone's taste.Highly recommend!

Nine curries served. All different and no complaints, so that's got to be good. I was pleasantly surprised with the comprehensive menu and the quality of food, it was nice to enjoy curry in a relaxed informal environment. Will definately return.

We started using The Fox late in 2015 and so far have not been disappointed once, after several visits, both for sit in and takeaway. The curries are different to what you'd normally expect but the blend of spices is divine which results in rich, spicey tastes that imply they make their own spice mixtures. Their curries are a little mild for my own tastes but no problem, just ask them to make them hotter, or extra hot and they're willing to oblige.I can't recommend them enough although some might prefer the ambiance of a "proper" curry restaurant, I like the style of pub with a restaurant. If you're lucky, you might get live music too.Wouldn't go anywhere else in the area for a curry any longer.

WE received a great Family Buffet Lunch The food was great and the Service the same would use again for any family get together.

Been here a number of times since June 2014. Usual excellent customer service. They always recognise my Springers and give them biscuits. Good beer at excellent prices. Clean and comfortable. We've had three Indian takeaway this year and found them tasty and fresh.This is a very friendly well run pub but not open lunch times. Not a problem.All the staff are very friendly and do go the extra mile to make an outsider feel welcome.

Great food and service. Enjoyed a very relaxed meal with the best Indian food we've had in a long time.

Wonderful Indian food, a warm welcome, lovely staff, service and value for money. The various Tawas we had were excellent, tasty and plentiful. We shared a rice and a garlic nan and it was plenty for two. (We had starters of shish kebab and a mixed kebab) as well as crisp fresh popadom and pickles. Can't fault a thing, and once again, the chef should be congratulated. The Fox is clean, fresh and modern and it's nice to be able to sit at the bar or one of the high tables and have a drink before the meal, and peruse the menu at your leisure if you so wish. We'll be back!

Had a great meal here with my wife, beautiful Indian food and very happy engaging barmaid. Just outside Barnstaple, also does takeaway. Great local beer and even better for us you can bring your dog, well worth stopping by.

If you're looking for a decent Indian meal then i would recommend The Fox, Fremington! The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere is warm and great.Best around!

Unusual to find good real ale in a good Indian restaurant but this place is quirkily unsure if it is a pub or a restaurant - and does well at both. Great friendly service too.

Was surprised to hear the fox had just been refurbed, we actually thought it needed doing. Expected cosy interior and got a cold cheap inside with no atmosphere. It was like someone had dumped tables and chairs in a drama hall. Staff were okay and food was okay but will not be returning because of bland atmosphere.

Recently revamped with a totally new look interior the Fox has changed from oldy worldy to semi modern with an indian cuisine restaurant area. The staff have been very good on all visits. I have found food service to be good with no delays. The tawa selection is excellent with a wide variety of choices. The bar needs a good real ale as a lead beer. Live music on various occasions. Live jazz on alternative Tuesday's with free admission. Is a big hit.

This is my local pub in the village where I live.has a great selection of beer and also a fantastic India reastraunt where you can eat in or take away food is of a good standard and very tasty . highly recommend this place.

The food looks or tastes nothing like you have ordered, when you complain they go mental, awful customer service, going here you are wasting your time, money and health.Not only that a 20-45 min wait and the chef has no idea how to cook anything properly, let's just say if you are constipated the food will indeed give you the trots. Drinks overpriced £4 for a coffee.

Visiting family locally and was recommended we visited the Fox for a beer and a curry. Well it was a lot more than simply that. The bar staff were so friendly,we were treated like old friends.The menu had everything you could possibly want for Indian food and it was difficult to choose with such a varied choice, Peter our waiter could not be any better seriously his recommendations and knowledge of the menu was perfect and the guy had a great sense of humour and was the perfect host.Four of us all had different choices from the menu and every dish was awsome, I had chicken tikka chilli garlic !!! Wow is all I can say, it came served in its own cooking pan still sizzling and was the best curry I have ever eaten, and trust me I have had a few.Please don't be put off by an English looking pub that is serving Indian food because you WILL NOT be disappointed with the food the staff or the price.

We have lived in Fremington for a few years and this is the first time we have visited the fox. The staff were all very friendly. Service was very good and the food was outstanding. We love our normal Indian restaurant but this was even better. We will now give the take away a try and see if that is as good or than our normal one. Thank you and see you soon.

Ordered a simple chicken tikka masala to take away and was quoted a 30 minute wait. After 30 minutes was quoted another 20 minutes after that, was told another 45 minutes!! There was no apology or offer of even a complimentary drink. I can't speak for the quality of the food but if it is anything like the service, stay away!!

I have eaten here a few times before and it has always been great as always the staff are excellent and well trained. What really lets it down is the food. I ordered a Chicken Balti, a dish that I have enjoyed many times for around 25 years. I'm sure the chef has no idea how to cook a Balti or has never eaten one, I'm guessing the chef made the dish based upon reading a description. All of the ingredients apart from the chicken were undercooked and the taste was wrong. Will not be returning.

We are new to the area and decided one Friday evening we would check out the fox. When we got there there were only a few tables in the restaurant mostly reserved. We asked for a table and got the last one available. They had a band setting up (needing some table space) and we had originally wanted to visit here to see them. The meal was fabulous with some lovely ales. The food was quick and well presented. The staff very friendly. We were so full we decided to go home before the band actually started their set. We will be back again. Thank you for making us most welcome. And if you're planning on eating here I would book a table in advance. :)

Not sure why the previous reviewer was so rude & awful about the food, the staff or anything else here. Everything is top notch! Anyone with a bit of decency would have had a quiet word with Tracey or Guy (landlady & landlord) and expressed their disappointment if something was not to their liking with their meal. They would have dealt with this appropriately and the customer would have felt treated fairly & satisfied. To just vent their fury on here is very unfair. From personal experience, the curries, whether tawas, side dishes, or roti's are absolutely delicious. Can't fault a thing, and ALL the staff are attentive and efficient. Compliments to the chef - you are doing a very grand job!

Well what can I say I have been to fox many times now when working down here and 12th July was as good as any!old cook new cook still one of the best places I have eaten around here! You have got to give this places a try if you have not already!amazing people amazing places Thank you to the fox team!

We have eaten here before and ordered many takeaways and it's been absolutely lovely........tonight we ordered our usual and mine was a Tandoori King Prawn Masalla (Chef's recommendation dish)......my husband brought the dishes home and I could see instantly something was wrong, the Tandoori King Prawn Masalla was a bright red thin and watery dish and upon tasting it was similar to a watered down tomato soup....I called them up and spoke to the ''Landlady'' (who was 'maybe' 19 years old ? and had no idea about Indian food) I asked to speak with a manager and expressed my concerns.....I was then asked to come back and collect a replacement (why would I want to eat dinner with my husband ?).......I walked down taking the offending item with me only to be passed an indentical bright red, insipid replacement.....I gave up....I advised them it was exactly the same and that it had no cream or yoghurt...the response was ''how do you want it to be ? '' I replied ''how it's meant to be cooked'', upon enquiring if there was a new chef they admitted a new one had started 2 weeks before......I asked them to let me know when the owner would be in and when he pointed to a chap necking a pint I knew it was time to give up and advised them not to worry and I wouldn't be back.......arrived home and tasted the second version and I would lay my life on the line and say it had sweet chilli dipping sauce in it along with a cheap quality ketchup..............never ever again.

My mum is seriously ill in the local hospital. The Fox is the nearest pub to her home within easy walking distance of her home. The staff and Landlady are very welcoming and friendly. The pub is refreshing and clean with a good selection of Ales and spirits.It is dog friendly. My girls got free doggy treats. The Fox has a Indian takeaway and restaurant within its complex.We had a takeaway which was excellent I flavour and pricing . This is a local pub with various entertainments from time to time.An excellent friendly local. Good luck to them. I shall be back.

We were staying in Fremington on our walking holiday, and our BB hosts recommended The Fox. They also mentioned they served Indian food. As lovers of Indian food, we thought we'd stop in for a beer and check it out...and had a most wonderful meal. The staff working there were very friendly, and the young man who looked after us went above and beyond to make our experience special. Vey attentive, and he made helpful recommendations as well. Very reasonably priced, also. What a gem of a place to have in a small town like Fremington!

What can I say? Upon visiting for a meal that was great and fairly priced, I was really surprised in the different contrast of staff, the young man was very attentive tonot just our table but also to the others that came in at the same time, making sure we could understand the varied menu but also giving a warm welcome to us and really making us feel as though our custom was as important as the very first of the day, we were mesmerised by his ability to make everyone feel welcome even enjoying the company of those at the bar and using the same vibrance in his all round ability, the girl who was working with him could learn a lot from him if she ever pulled her face away from her phone, it was a pleasure to eat here and an even greater pleasure to feel as though we were regarded as our custom was really appreciated, fantastic!! Will be back for sure

From the outside The Fox looks very inviting and we knew it had had a makeover so decided to give it a go for a meal. Inside it is actually quite small but does not really feel that cosy. It looks like it has had a cheap makeover and has the feel of a cafe rather than a pub/restaurant.The young staff were great - very attentive and friendly and we couldn't fault them.The Indian food was ok overall but I am surprised at the high reviews that people have given as I have definitely had better Indian food elsewhere. Most of it was ok (although I thought the garnish of hundreds and thousands on the korma was a bit odd!) but the Dopiaza was watery and tasteless.If we find ourselves in Fremington again we might call in for a drink but wouldn't eat here again.

As we live very close to this fantastic family run pub/restaurant we frequent it quite often and have had numerous Indian dishes (if not the whole menu) and have enjoyed everyone without fail. It is certainly the best curry we have had in North Devon.Furthermore having been ‘guinea pigs’ at yesterdays Sunday lunch trial we think yet again they are on to a winner, fantastic proper cooked food. We had a choice of 2 meats and we had both! A first for us was the opportunity to have the beef cooked to our liking, rare! It arrived with correct accompaniments, plenty of vegetables all cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of crunch & the gravy/juices were fabulous.The staff & owners are all extremely welcoming, helpful & professional.A big thank you from The Mombers.

Only living 5 minutes from the fox we thought we would try it to celebrate a family birthday. We were very delighted. Its very clean, warm welcoming place. The beer is very good, good wine list. Though not tried it as was driving. Food wss excellent very good choice and plenty of it. Service was excellent vert attentive even though very busy. Would suggest booking a table. Can not fault the fox on any level and will make it a regular thing.

Had an excellent Indian meal in this really nice refurbished restaurant/pub. The food we just could not fault and what huge portions! the two young girls who were serving were so friendly and pleasant. We will go back soon! Fantastic curry house!

Having tried just about every curry house in the area these guys seem to be the best all round we have found. Good value compared to some in the town for main dishes which is what , along with the obvious taste , keeps us coming back .

Went to this village pub/Indian Restaurant and we was far from disappointed. The food was very tasty and the portions were very good. The sfaff was very attentive, and the price was very fair. Service was great. Would definitely go back.

I must admit the Indian Food is delicious and have been eating either in the bar (official restaurant opening soon although the bar seating is lush anyway!) or having a takeaway twice a week! Even the prices are sooo reasonable and we always leave a great tip due to great service great food and would happily pay more for the food!!! Other Indians locally are way more expensive and there foods are no way on the same level. A great pub/restaurant to have locally only a 5 minute walk from where we live its brilliant! Would recommend to EVERYONE family's couples young and older!!! HAPPY HAPPY :) :) :) Thankyou

Small pub but "big" meals and flavours. The Tawa (frying pan) meals are brilliant as are their other meals. Service was brilliant too so it made a special evening for us. We'll most definitely be going back - in fact are going back in 3 weeks! One of the best!

I can honestly say that The Fox Indian Kitchen is by far the nicest Indian I have very had and have been eating in and having a takeaway twice a week!!! Amazing - will recommend to EVERYONE! Thankyou :)

The Fox has had a dramatic make over this year (2013) and what a transformation. What was once a seedy village pub has been transformed into a delightfully modern but warm and welcoming establishment which now doubles an Indian Kitchen restaurant. Six of us had a meal there last week and I can honestly say that its the best Indian meal I have ever had. Likewise the other 5 of my group came out raving about how good the food was and what super value as all the dishes are very competatively priced. Given that it was a midweek evening and that it was pretty well full shows what a hidden gem this place is. The staff are extremely friendly and the real ales excellent. We will definitely be going back in the very near future

Got recommended to try the fox and glad we did, cross between a pub/wine bar with a extensive curry kitchen. Food was great, service was good, tried the take away menu which is as good.

A spur of the moment decision to try this, after friends had highly recommended it. We are so glad we did. You can eat in the bar area (the restaurant part is soon to be open), or take away, & we opted to eat in. For a Monday evening, there were a few tables with people eating, and it smelt really nice as the staff were bringing the dishes out. The Tawa's (the flat pan the food is served sizzling on), & the name of the curries, are absolutely delicious. The King Prawn one had huge prawns in, and the sauce was to die for, and not too hot for me. The Lamb one with spinach was, I'm told, also superb. The Tarka dahl was heavenly, and the roti light and tasty. Couldn't fault a thing, and the staff were attentive, and the atmosphere relaxed. We'll definitely be back - in fact we've already booked! Not sure why TripAdvisor has it on as an attraction and not a pub and restaurant. Needs to change it's category on here.

I am biased as I know the owners, but I have now eaten in and had several take aways from the Indian Kitchen at The Fox. I can honestly say it is the best Indian food in North Devon. It is still an English Pub, so don't go looking for an authentic Indian Restaurant. I would recommend to anyone to give it a try.
