The Fox Covert in Stockton-on-Tees

Very concerned and let down after our visit here back in March and it was for a birthday trip. My partner and I visited mid week for a parmo. We were seated at the bottom of the restaurant seated near a loud speaker which was churning out old 90s hits. We asked if they could turn down the music a bit as it was overbearing. We ordered one original parmo and one hotshot. We didn’t wait that long and the food arrived. It came with chips and salad and a garlic dip. I cut into mine but it was still pink which made me feel nauseous from just looking at it. I couldn’t eat it and told them that it was too pink for my liking. They then offered to take it back and said that the kitchen must have used too much paprika in the breadcrumb mix. It came back out and I cut into it again and it was pink again. It was really off putting. I ate the chips and salad and chips were good and handmade. They were good in taking it off the bill but it was very off putting and I don’t think I would return. This is a shame as I use to drink here regularly and have had many a parmo here and it was always nice. Don’t know what happened this time. I felt let down and done out of a decent parmo.

Worst meal ever parmesan burnt black chips disgusting two meals totally inedible no apology never would we eat there again

Walked in without a reservation. No problem. Seats there for walk ins. Had the fish platter. Fantastic. My friend asked for hot shot parmo. They got it wrong, but it was rectified in minutes and a complimentary beer for friend too. Really good experience. Go there, you won’t be disappointed.

They have proper chef's here. Asked to swap salmon for the haddock it was no problem and the dish was delicious! My friends had the parmo’s equally as good salad and chips were delicious.

the foods ok but the booking system or lack of for a walk in is hopeless, we walked in no free tables in the walk-in area, 3 empty tables in the restruant side near the fire, 2 in the main restaurant. asked if we could sit at one of them, no was the reply. we waited around 50mins for a table to be free then ordered. One of the empty tables in the resevered area ended up being used, the others remaining free for the duration of our visit, annoying the pub is now looking scruffy, the gents toilet is a disgrace, it stinks, I wonder if they are compatable with a restaurant facility

Lovely ambiance with good service. What let it down for me was overcooked, luke warm chips with a piping hot parmesan. I like my food to be hot and the chips were bordering on cold.

Walk in on a Sunday and had four roast dinners. Portion size very good. Could have been hotter but overall a very good meal at a reasonable price

Have had Sunday lunch here on numerous occasions and have always been happy with it. However today we were very disappointed, our dinners were just luke warm but when we told the waitress a very surly unfriendly blonde lady called Sue she wasn't in the least bothered, just said oh was it. The man who showed us to our table and the lady that brought our drinks were friendly though.

Our go to venue for nice food at reasonable prices,plus the excellent Blacksheep Bitter.Ony thing weas we found the place a bit chilly,could have done with the heating being a notch or two higher.Hope it's warmer on Saturday 7th when we next plan to visit.

Well what can I say? but fabulous, we visited The Fox Covert in Nov 24 for a family celebration, there was 16 of us, and we had pre ordered and paid our deposit. I cannot fault any thing about our experience. The food was delicious, the service and staff were lovely and happy to accommodate. Excellent value for money It was busy over the lunch time and the venue may have wanted the table for later but we were not rushed in any way. We had a perfect afternoon A Huge Thank you to all the Staff, my husband and I will definitely be returning xx

Service was good, prices fair and the food reasonable. They managed the family group very well and everyone left satisfied. The southerner even enjoyed his Parmo!

Love this place. Visit every time I come north. Hot shot parmo is lovely. Massive portions, and proper home made chips. Parmo’s come in small or large. Small is more than big enough.

Surly reception from a member of staff whose frown didn't change throughout our visit. Very disappointing portion sizes. Ordered lasagne for £15.95, which included 2 slices of garlic bread, chips and side salad. Lasagne was very, very small, so it's difficult to imagine what this pub's small portion looks like (priced at £13.95)! The side salad comprised a single quarter slice of tomato, about 5 salad leaves and a few slivers of red onion-more a garnish. Lasagne is a cheap dish to make and this place is making a killing with the worst example of shrinkflation I've encountered. Won't be back.

Booked for a table of 9 did pre order which proved a godsend of how busy they were with lots of big parties in. We were served promptly, food and service was excellent defo will return.

Light lunch with friends and this seems the ideal place. It's always busy which is a good sign and the food, service and atmosphere was excellent. Well worth a return sometime.

We went for Sunday lunch back in June and initially I wasn't going to post a review as I didn't have the best experience here and thought I would leave it. However, after seeing others have similar experiences I thought I'd share as I clearly wasnt a one off. So we didnt have the best start when we walked in to the pub. However, for context and trying to be balanced with this review we didn't pre-book (keep in mind). Back to the story, so we walked into the oub and saw a sign that said "sit at any unreserved seat". So we went through to the next section and sat down, next thing we know, this rude lady (short dark hair) came bustling through "have you booked?" which we acknowledged we hadn't, apologised for what was clearly not the right place for ad hoc walk ins to sit. However, rather than be accomdating and meet us half way she snapped "well you can't sit in here". Not the best start, as the table didn't have any "reserved" signs on it like the others, however, partly our fault too. Never mind, we followed her through to the next section and sat down, ordered our food and waited. (In our defence, it was our first time so didnt know what the rules are here, so lesson learned with that). Whilst we sat and waited for our food, the staff serving food stood in the door way gossiping, staring at customers and what appeared to be laughing at people. We realised then that it was a bit if a clique pub and this was confirmed later. When the staff were serving the couple next to us, who must have been regulars, they went out of there way for them. Asking how they were, ehat they jad been up to, and then did the usual act of customer service, asked if they would like any sauces, anything else, and wished them a lovely meal. When we finally got our food, which was a little while, the server put both plates on the table and literally said nothing and walked away. We felt like absolute scum to them. We felt that they did not want us there. All we wanted was some mint sauce with our food, we literally couldn't get their attention, they kept walking past us, despite me and mynpartner trying to ko avail to get their attention, we ended up just leaving it.... Awful! The food was delicious to be honest. Couldn't fault it, hearty, home cooked food. We loved the old style country feel that the pub had, it is a traditional british country pub and is lovely inside. Just the service was absolutely awful, some of the people who work there should not be in customer service. Despite the food being delicious, I'll never set foot in that place again. To be made to feel unwelcome, despite being a paying customer is atrocious. I'd rather go somewhere else than spend a penny in zeat place. My rating was based on the food being delicious, the service was that bad, I would have given it a zero.

Ordered the parmo and mince and dumplings. Waited a very long time as restaurant was busy which is ok. When the food arrived initially I complained as there was hardly and mince on the plate. The waiter took it to the kitchen who sent it back to me saying that’s all I would get. When I cut into the dumpling it was uncooked. The parmo was terrible and the chips were raw. I eat here 3 times a week and is normally ok but I won’t be back again. The difference between chefs and cooks is apparent at busy times.

Have been recommended this place, so decided to pop in for lunch, a first visit. We sat down at a table, and sat for about 15 minutes with staff passing by us many times, the pub was not particularly busy with customers and it would have really helped had any one of them been friendly enough acknowledge us and to let us know that food had to be ordered from the bar. Found the food okay, but very unsociable staff. Sorry but will not be rushing back.

Where to begin? A warm welcome from staff who were really friendly, efficient and kind throughout our visit. The chef who accommodated our requests and served up a fabulous lunch. A great atmosphere in lovely surroundings. This is one of the best places to dine but I would recommend booking as it always busy and quite rightly so.

We took our grandsons and they wanted pasta which wasn’t on the menu. The lovely waitress asked the chef and he did it specially for us . The food was amazing as always

Average food , overpriced for what it was. I ordered Scampi expecting it to be decent. It was edible but no better than you get in the cheap chain pubs . It was ok but I won't go back there .

It’s and old school place with great food done well. I always go there when in the area. Thanks abbey for the great service and I recommend anyone going to have the mince and dumplings - it’s epic

We came here for Sunday lunch on the recommendation of a friend. It was everything she had promised it would be. The service was excellent, friendly and attentive without being overly attentive. The food was lovely and came quite quickly after we ordered it. The prices were reasonable and the overall bill came as a pleasant surprise. We had two courses each and wine and it didn't break the bank. The food was hot and well cooked and there was plenty of it. We all managed to clear our plates though. Would definitely go back again if we were in the area.

Looked at the reviews before coming and wasn’t sure what to expect but pleasantly surprised at how lovely the food was for the price! Had a chicken parmo and corned beef pie and both were amazing with generous portion sizes! The chips looked to be twice cooked and so good! We will be back

Haven't been for ages but as good as ever. Went on a lunchtime glad we were there early as most of the tables had been taken. Food was lovely, didn't have to wait too long either. The gentleman that served our drinks and food was very friendly and accommodating. Will defo be back.

We had a great experience here. The pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas and was cosy and inviting. There were very few tables left but we managed to get one of the doggy tables near the bar which was perfect for our little dog! The staff were very busy but pleasant and helpful. We chose turkey from the Christmas menu which was lovely and piping hot. Quality food and reasonably priced. Thank you - it was a nice start to our weekend break.

A large group of 17 attended The Fox on a Monday night. We normally get together 2 or 3 times a year to meet up and chat over old times. The team at the pub are amazing, our food orders are booked in advanced and there are never any issues. The staff and service are always excellent,especially for such a big party. The food on this occasion was excellent, everyone commenting on how much they enjoyed it so a big thank you to the Chef and all of the team at The Fox Covert, looking forward to our next visit.

Staff rude, you would not think that without customers the place would close. The saving of the Fox Covert is the amazing food which is always fresh, very tasty and good value for money with good portion size.

I have reviewed fox covert many times always given great reviews but today 2 meals with beef was disappointing meat tough you pay good money for bedf and ‘sorry I will tell chef doesn’t cut it’ especially when we heard 2 other customers saying same thing. Cannot fault service or anything else but very disappointed

Popular food pub between Yarm and Ingleby Barwick. Parking. Usual pub food offerings ( parmo, pasta) and interesting firecracker salmon. All adequate, but nothing special.

Booked a table, arrived to meet a girl behind a laptop. Didn’t get up, just pointed and said your table is over there and we weren’t the only ones. No service with a smile from restaurant staff but bar staff were great. Nice range of beers and wines, lovely ambience otherwise I would have rated this 1*. Food was average at best. Maybe our expectations are higher but in today’s world of money being tight and treats being rare I expected more from The Fox Covet.

Absolutely amazing meal for my dads birthday. Not many places which serve a traditional home made mince and dumplings on their menu anymore! All of us thoroughly enjoyed our food. Gorgeous little pub and very friendly staff. Food was quick and service was great. Will definitely be returning.

Excellent meal at The Fox Covert, we had two courses with drinks including steak and the cost was £70 plus tip. Steak was perfect for me and my wife had a starter as a main course with some side dishes as well. Couldn't manage a pudding as the first two courses were very filling. Wish I had taken pictures of the meals and would definitely go back.

Fantastic pub. Brilliant atmosphere. Superb food, tasty,well cooked and hot. Friendly staff nothing too much trouble and always smiling, courteous and friendly . Good selection of beers. Worth booking a table, although they do their best to accommodate you.

Not all disability is visible. I have difficulty standing for long persuading. Josh was so understanding and organised chairs for me and my husband so we could see the singer who was fabulous. He really went the extra mile. The food was great but the portions are huge. Thank you josh for all your care and understanding.

For their short term gain the long term custom of myself and my family has been lost. Thanks again Fox Covert for nothing. This is the second time they have done this to me.

We had a table booked waited to be seated no one came so went to the bar, we were then seated and waited for a menu no one brought we found one on another table a second later we where asked if we would like to order said no as we had just found a menu. When the food came the veg and chips I would say were warmed up and not at all fresh. We gave this a second chance but won’t be going back.
