New Year's Eve lunch was amazing! 5 friends had a roast for lunch. Very fresh, hot and good portions at a great price ! Lunch was beautifully presented and 100% home made, even the chutney on my cheese board. A friend had a chocolate brownie for dessert also made by the chef. A bar menu is available too. We will be back to try it soon ! Service was very good, we were very well taken care of.

Lived in this pub when I was 5 years old, so I have some lovely memories from here! (Even the ones of the ghosts!...) Popped in to have a Christmas drink for my dad who is no longer with us, it felt really lovely to stand in the bar and have a toast for him! The pub has just been taken over by new management and they seemed really lovely, the pub has a real county feel to it with a lovely atmosphere! Dog friendly for those of you who’s pooches enjoy a quick drink! Didn’t stop for food so I can’t review on that, defo worth a visit

Lovely little Surprise, Sunday lunch for 4.We booked, recommended, you will not get a table if you do not book .FULL. Very cosy, friendly staff, friendly locals. Walking in a new place this is most welcome. Shown to our table, given menus by a confident waitress. Ordered our drinks and starters. service very good , then ordered our lunch ( they only serve a Roast on Sundays) but you will have a good choice. I had Beef which was served Hot,fresh, and the vegetables were seasonable. The meals were very good. every enjoyed theirs. On the whole this is a lovely little hidden gem, if you like small friendly and cosy. We did, and bring your Dog as they are most welcome .

This pub looks lovely and is in a great location for walkers but, unfortunately, we never got to try it out. We chose the pub for it's location - a dog friendly pub with good reviews, walks on the doorstep and, most importantly, almost equidistant between our home & my daughter at Uni (an hour's drive each). I phoned to book for Sunday lunch on the Friday before and a lovely lady confirmed my booking taking my name & number and emphasising that our dog would be very welcome. On arrival after a 2.5 hour walk we arrived and saw there was a table reserved which we assumed was ours.Turns out it wasn't: they had no record of our booking and they could/would do absolutely nothing to accommodate us so we had to leave. The girl behind the bar was apologetic but the suggestion that we return the following Sunday was laughable considering I'd told her we'd all driven for an hour to get there. There were tables outside and they did not even suggest that we use any of those - they were full and that was it! This is no way to run a business and we were all extremely disappointed - it is not exactly easy to find a good Sunday lunch in an unfamiliar area when it is already 1:30pm.

On 3rd. January 2018 a group of 16 from the Mid. Herts. Footpath Society descended upon The Fox for lunch. The menu included a good selection of two courses for £7.50, of which many took advantage, some choosing a starter and a main while others chose a main and a dessert. We have often found that this combination presents problems at some other establishments where the mains are not served until those with starters have finished and similarly the desserts are not served until all the mains are finished, thereby prolonging the meal with some twiddling their fingers waiting for their course to be served. Not so at The Fox! where the various courses were served with fluidity by a very pleasant lady who, 'brushed off' the numerous compliments by simply saying that it was all the excellent work of the chef. We found the 'locals' having a drink at the bar were also very friendly and seemed to welcome this group of 'nutters', who relish in trudging across muddy fields in the rain and then 'intrude'upon 'their territory'. Many thanks to all concerned. Regards, Roy.

When visiting this pub with friends on a sat night, the people that this pub is there local are beyond lovely and welcoming! Too bad staff aren't as kind to new comers... sworn at by staff(bar maid), terrible attitude so asked to speak to manager and she was just as bad! 'Customers come first' is most definitely not a priority in this place! Wish I'd gotten this all on record to put on here, Message to The Fox - be kind not ONLY to customers but to everyone, we all have feelings!! :)

Five of us went for Sunday lunch today at The Fox (our first visit there) and we were all in agreement that it was one of the best we had experienced in some time. Between us we tried pretty much every roast on the menu and the quality was consistently excellent. Even the pickiest among us couldn't find fault with anything which is unheard of. The vegetarian option was a delicious cheese and onion quiche that has to be the best I've ever tasted. Puddings were fresh and homemade and the service was excellent - really friendly and welcoming. And very dog friendly too. We will be back!

Our first visit to the Fox as our daughter & S in L have just moved to Pirton. The Fox is centre village with duck pond and village green complete with Maypole close by, as is access to lovely country walks nearby on Pexton Hills. A warm welcome from Jackie, and later from Chef Mark made us feel immediately at home. Clean, atmospheric with plenty of seating inside and in the garden, dog friendly as well. Sunday lunch till 3pm at £11, with choice of lamb shank, pork, turkey, beef, salmon plenty of veg and roasties, with option of full, small or children's portions, deserts to follow. Good selection of ale, beer and cider. Will be our "local" whenever we visit the family.

After finishing a 5 mile walk, we headed for the fox which we had booked a table, the pub is clean with a nice atmospher and very welcoming staff, we all had the roast 2 had beef 1 turkey & 1 pork served with roast pots Yorkshire roasted chantenay carrots parsnips , then served separately was chive mash, fresh veg coliflour, broccoli and swede separate pots of gravy for each of us to go with the different meats and to finish it off the sauce to compliment the meats, you certainly wouldn't go hungry and at just £11.50 it was worth every penny. There is a veggi option if you are not a meat eater, nif you are in the area give it a try you won't be disappointed

I have given this pub 3 occasions to get it right, sadly I'm done. I'm gluten free, for medical reasons, but not by choice . 1st time was told they are only serving sandwiches, although there was clearly a party eating other foods, told them of my dietary requirements..no help. 2nd time, arrived on a sunday after a walk, only menu was a roast dinner option, was told, no gluten free option, cannot cater for gluten free. Only when deciding to leave the pub were we offered a roast omitting the gluten containing ingredients. Which was very good. On leaving the pub was told .....if you ring beforehand next tjme we can cater for you. Re. Gravy etc

Arguably the best quality and value Sunday Lunch in a delightful setting in a wonderful North Hertfordshire village. There are plenty of country walks to work up an appetite for an amazing selection of vegetables and cooked meats with their own distinct gravy to accompany. Visited this lovely pub in a very pretty village, whilst on a country walk with friends and we were impressed by the very friendly service and the excellent value 'Pensioners' Special Lunch - 2 courses for £7.50. I was a little wary of this offer as I have had previous poor experiences of such specials elsewhere, but this was excellent with a generous portion and choice of dishes. For an extra £1.50 you could have a third course but I was too full after a starter and a main to need this.

Deciding to meet for Sunday Lunch and a chat, we met with friends at the lovely village of Pirton. They had booked a table at the Fox for 2pm giving us a chance to enjoy a walk through this beautiful rural location while working up a good appetite. The pretty pub is fronted by a good sized beer garden and we felt welcome as we walked through the door for pints of well-kept Timothy Taylor beer. The place was reasonably busy with plenty of people enjoying the food. The Sunday menu is super-simple and uncompromising, a choice of meats, pork, beef, turkey, or lamb shank. Between four of us we had beef, turkey and pork.

I wouldn't call the fox a gastropub, and that is not a criticism. It does good pub grub, at decent prices, cooked with care and attention. We went for lunch on nye. Revisited this pub after a few years away. England football match on and mostly empty, albeit Tuesday night. Used to be a much buzzier pub in the week, though can't fully judge on one night. Also, no longer does food. It has a pool table. All in all, lacked a bit of atmosphere for a match night. Guinness is okay and prices reasonable. Has tables outside.
