Great pub! Small and welcoming. Very good beer, high quality/price. We rested and relaxed in this welcoming Pub for two beers 🍻 and some bagged chips. The staff was very kind. Inside you can play darts for free 🎯. Advised!

Most definitely the best hostelry in Baldock, an extensive selection of ales always in perfect condition........

Really nice pub. The food looks good too. I can now report that the Sunday Roast is excellent! Just a nice place to moan about how the Tory government has ruined our lives!

2021: a lovely little pub with a nice outdoor area with “sheds” for shelter and heating. The prices are ok, there are cheaper and more expensive. I wasn’t in a wheelchair when I visited but I think it’s accessible certainly outside is- inside is quite small but it’s doable

We had an amazing roast lunch. The portion sizes were very generous. The food was cooked really well and the staff were very attentive

Friday night fish and chips, absolutely the most delicious fish, perfectly cooked, and the chips were lovely, everything was piping hot and very generous portions. The staff were very friendly even though they were extremely busy.

Great food - had fish and chips which was delicious and generously portioned. My only gripe about this pub is how difficult it is to get served a drink as men sit along the complete bar length making it impossible for anyone else to get to the bar.

I visited with my son. We wanted something to eat primarily. It was Sunday. I was hoping for a roast dinner. It is best to book or reserve a Sunday lunch beforehand as we couldn't get a full Sunday roast. However, the staff offered roasted beef and pork sandwiches which were served with roast potatoes and gravy. It was delicious. The young lady behind the bar was very helpful and the service was excellent. It's well worth a visit, although I would suggest to book a Sunday lunch.

Nice revamped public house. Weather good for sitting outside. Beer choice is very good.

Absolutely delicious roast dinner, they even d9d something separate and not from the menu for our 7 year old who doesnt eat roasts, will defo visit again, friendly staff and all round lovely pub 😁😋

A lovely pub in the centre of Baldock. Has a small area for sitting outside on those hot summer days. A good selection of beers on offer and bar food.

Mothering Sunday was a huge success thanks to all the staff at the Cock. Amazing Sunday roast huge portions!! But delicious. Gave us plenty of time to order and eat. Even a breather before pudding.. Which was the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever had… Compliments to the chef on all counts.. We will definitely return

Good beer, cosy fire and excellent staff. 10/10, would drink again. There is usually a decent range of ales, and their own beer OBH best bitter is definitely worth a try. I have visited a few times and found their Guinness to be the best in baldock too. Clearly they take pride in keeping their lines clean. Finally I would recommend most of all is the food, a fair price for an excellent meal and though the menu is limited, it is delicious; if you come out for burger Thursday, fish and chips Friday, or a Sunday roast I'm certain you will walk away feeling wonderfully satisfied by the meal you just had, I know I did.

What a real pub this is!! Unspoilt with a beutiful log fire, which makes the pub so cosy, on a winter's afternoon. Lovely garden to the side!

Smoke from fire blowing into pub. Food indifferent quality. Beer adequate. Landlord with bad attitude. There are plenty of other pubs to chose from.

Only had drinks which were fine, but really liked the outside spaces which were covered, spacious and with patio heaters.

A nice little pub but a little cramped for space if busy. There is a covered area to the side so would be ok in the summer months. Only one beer on hand pump on my visit ( Black Sheep) Food is available if required.

Went to this once delightful little pub last night our friend had booked a booth outside and was told they serve hot bar snacks on Saturday , first round of drinks took 25 minutes to arrive drinks for 5 people not an army the bar staff were not a bit apologetic about the lengthy wait for each order , after the 6 th round the girl serving us had taken our order and then proceeded to another table of her friend’s perched herself on a wall foot up on a chair and just sat chatting to her mates 35 mins had passed since the order had been requested and so my husband asked her what the hold up was with our drinks she replied that it was getting poured inside and we needed to understand that because of COVID they are only allowed one person behind the bar and two people taking orders fair enough if pub was packed but it was very quite at this point my husband walked out after the girl was extremely rude she then told us that we needed to appreciate that she had been working for 10 hours and also that her mum who was the one behind the bar had a bad foot so the delay was first down to COVID rules then the amount of hours she had worked and finally her mums bad foot , quite frankly the whole evening was a let down due to the rudeness the excuses and the severe lack of customer service , the decisions to not do the bar snacks was the saving grace because they both looked like there personal hygiene was the last thing on there mind , I’m not someone that complains about places and I am fully aware that times are difficult at the moment and I definitely allow for that I always tell the staff I appreciate what they have done and thank them but in this case it was appalling……

On saturday night decided to get out. Went to the Cock for a steak meal and a few beers. What a great idea. We Had the most amazing steak and chips with fresh peas, mushrooms, and tomatoes, everything was fresh and the steak cooked perfectly.The staff, bearing in mind what hospitality are going through at this time were chatty and attentive service was excellent. Beer was good too as always.

What a joke! Only giving one star as it doesn’t give me the option to do no stars or half a star. The only menu option for ‘Saturday steak night’ was a £13 sirloin steak or a ‘Bombay badboy oriental veggie burger’. Ordered the steak each (table of two); about 1 hour and 15 mins later we still hadn’t received our food. No comments or apologies from staff for the long wait or to explain delay. Table of three behind us were there before us and they still hadn’t received theirs either and another table had already walked out by this point (overheard staff say they had waited 2 hours for food). For the whole time we were there waiting we didn’t see anybody being served their food. After asking the staff where our food was, we were then told it’ll be another 10 minutes. 15 minutes later the table behind got their steaks; served in paper bags, cardboard ‘fish and chips’ takeaway boxes with wooden knife and fork. They commented that their steaks were way over-cooked and impossible to cut through with the wooden takeaway knife. Needless to say we asked for a refund and left. Went to the fish and chips across the road and was served within 5 minutes and great food. Don’t waste your time going to this pub!

Friday night fish and chip night at its best! Absolutely spot on with the covid measures in place. Staff working doubly hard with a smile on their faces and nothing is too much trouble considering they are doing all the running around! The fish and chips is outstanding large portions fresh and delicious! Can’t recommend enough and if you don’t want to eat in then you can order a takeaway so well worth a try! Friendly lively pub with quite a young crowd..good selection of beers and ciders. Loved the 80s music. Was packed at 10.30pm on a Saturday evening. Good to see Baldock pubs busy and well patronised. Would benefit from the fire being lit as was a bit chilly by the door..

Only met up with friends for a catch up got a table and was perfect for a drink and good conversation. Cocktails that took a little while to make were brought over to table by helpful happy staff.

Great roast dinner, big portions and good company. Nice little pub for eating and drinking.

Nominated as a contender for CAMRA North Herts but last time we went it was closed (normal opening hours) and this Saturday lunchtime the kitchen was closed.

The Cock is one of the best pubs in Baldock. It has good beers, a lovely warm atmosphere and really fantastic food. Their steak night and fish and chips nights are brilliant value and the food is delicious. In the winter they have an open fire to create a really cosy atmosphere, and their newly renovated beer garden is really great for the summer with patio heaters for staying later.

The Cock offers a very good choice of beer and wine and we always feel most welcome when we visit. The staff are friendly, humorous and professional and the atmosphere is just what it should be in a local pub. We're incredibly lucky to have such a great place almost on our doorstep!

Popped in here for a beer and to see what the menu was like now that they have started to serve food, looks like good basic pub food on offer, but the beer is kept so well. We had Landlord!s. Brilliant pint.

This pub has charm and very nice inside. Food lovely as we had a party there and food was laid out. Great chunky chips as well a large bite sized pieces of fish. Great place to go and well worth a visit.

I came in here for a last couple of drinks. I had just ordered a pint and 5 minutes into it the boy serving shouted he had an emergency and we all had to leave. Now don't get me wrong he had an emergency and if he really did then fair enough.. However why should I lose money.. So i asked about a refund at the time and he became very aggressive and swore at me. Having told the owner about this a few days later he was simply arrogant in his reply. So everyone if something goes wrong in there expect to have to pay out of your own pocket for it. I suspect the owner will just give a usual rude reply to this.. But we all have our own problems my mum and dad died a few months back but I dont take it out on anyone. Owner and staff boy needs a lesson in professionalism.

Delicious Sunday roast, simply the best in the whole area, very reasonable price too.every element on the plate was first class, we had the small plate which was more than enough, delicious gravy too.

We had Sunday roast here with some friends. The kitchen was short of staff so we were only offered a very limited menu. Our option was Roast for the adults and chicken goujons and chips for the kids. The beef was overdone for my liking, the vegetables weren’t very well presented but perfectly cooked. The saving grace was the delicious gravy which made beef moist and the bound the dish together. The vegetables (honeyed parsnips, broccoli, carrots, cabbage and crispy potatoes were delicious. The Yorkshire pudding was freshly baked and delicious. The chicken goujons and chips were delicious. We were pleasantly surprised in the end.

For the small pub they should do Pack-a-Punch they do food they got good drinks they have music and there's quite a bit of space to sit outside as well as indoors great atmosphere lovely people.

After visiting for a drink at the weekend I was shocked to be charged £4.70 for a small glass of house wine (125ml), after questioning this with the bar lady she explained that is the price, making a large glass £9.40! I am a frequent customer in a number of pubs in the area but have never come across these kind of prices for a glass of house wine.

Great Pub in this town of many pubs

I met up with a friend for a drink and we decided to go to the Cock. It's quite a nice old pub with a couple of small stairs inside so there may be issues for those with mobility challenges however they do have a small area outside with seating. It was a friendly atmosphere and the staff were polite. Later it got quite busy which is the sign of a pub with a good reputation.

A gem of a little pub, beautifully cosy interior, some great beers and a friendly smile behind the bar.

Advertised on a board outside fish and chips Friday lunchtime £10. Not so when we came to pay, it was £14. Was told there was a new menu and the board should not have been there. Wouldn’t have minded but they were not very nice at all, the taste of oil was overwhelming! Could’ve gone to the chippy over the road for less money and better tasting.

Great historical 17th century real ale pub, good mixed crowd, excellent at Atmosphere, very good selection of beers - at least three cask bitters, served northern style with sparklet giving a generous head. Good service, the bar staff are friendly, competent and knowledgeable. Food is good at a reasonable price. Their Sunday lunches are excellent and a real fire in the winter. Pleasant courtyard beer garden. Superb!!!!

As a large party we came for fish and chips on Friday night and to watch the live music. The fish was amazing as always Fresh and perfect portions. The live music was great as was the atmosphere. We then came as a family for Sunday lunch again on the sunday the lunch was so good, the portions of both the small and large were very good. Food was hot and plenty of Veg. Would highly recommend. Steak night is also a must.

At last some decent music whilst eating top notch food. Cat Stevens, Daddy Cool, Chilli Peppers. If they pop in a bit of Kate Bush and Tori Amos I'll be in heaven. Yes the pub is traditional, but as a modern lady that loves her music and loves good food, get in there and own that space. Great evening, thanks.

Second time we have done the Steak Night on Mondays and it's delicious. New management, catering for beautifully presented high quality meals. Phone ahead to book as it's all cooked freshly. Didn't really want to say as it's our little secret, but our principles say we should share this gem. Dog friendly.

A wonderful 'old school' pub. So much character - in the building and it's regulars! A nice quiet place for a few drinks and a catch-up.

This little pub is full of charm. Don't come here expecting a modern interior or all the latest amenities. But that's what i love about The Cock. Staff are friendly, drinks are good and reasonably priced. What you see is what you get and unlike many other businesses nowerdays they are not pretending to be something they're not.
