An exceptional and very friendly pub, a very warm welcome from the staff, and a absolutely delicious meal. The scampi was lovely, the steak burger was outstanding, and it's well worth a visit. May we pass our thanks to all the staff for making our visit worthwhile. From Ray,Rosemary, and our dog Susie Table 21 @ 12noon today.

Fantastic country pub with great food and service. We visited for a family meal. Great selection of proper pub food at reasonable prices (not like some pubs nowadays that have a “contemporary “ menu where you can’t understand what you’re getting!) Warm welcome on arrival and nothing was too much trouble. A good menu with variety of dishes to suit all tastes, portion sizes and meals were delicious and very filling! Can’t fault this little gem of a pub and we will be back!

At last we have found an eating place which ticks all the boxes for us. Just can't find a single fault. Atmosphere, food and Staff of a very friendly high standard. We had Sunday Dinner and quite honestly wonder why we need to cook at home !! The younger couple with us two oldies were very impressed which takes some doing !! Absolutely no doubt we shall be coming back for more.

We come brim Hove to visit here. We love this pub. Great atmosphere. The manageress, Lynn is just amazingly lovely, helpful & friendly. All the staff go out of their way to he helpful. I have never had a bad meal here. Also the prices are very reasonable. My partner & I went on Friday evening, It was very busy, which is always a good sign. I had the fish & chips with peas & my partner had Hunter's gammon steak. I had syrup sponge pudding & custard as dessert & he had apple & Rhubarb crumble. Everything was just yummy. Won't be long before we're back there again. Thank you Lynn.

We love this pub. Lynn the owner is always so lovely & friendly, as are all the staff. We have eaten here many, many time's. I had liver/bacon with mash. Partner had pork (special) in plum sauce. I tried his meal too & amazing. The plum sauce was SO TASTY. We shared salt/pepper squid to start & a blackberry & apple crumble - delicious. The pub is spotlessly clean & a typical old fashioned pub, which is unusual to find in this day & age. Food portions are huge. We have NEVER had a bad meal here. We come over from Hove/Southwick, so not local, but well worth the trip. We will be back very, very soon. Thank you Lynn, another great evening. X

Since my last visit before lockdown they have changed from ordering at the bar to ordering at the table. I think it is more sophisticated to be waited on from start to finish, not that there are any pretentions here at the Fox. The atmosphere is always very friendly between customers and the whole evening felt like we were regulars. I had chosen The Fox for dinner with a friend and the menu was as tempting as ever with a wide selection of "Specials", but my recommendation was the The Homemade Sussex Smokie 'Au Gratin', being a local dish. We both ordered and it came beautifully presented by the charming young waitress. I had intended to prioritize the Smokie to leave room for dessert. I failed and we both cleared our plates. We had decided to share one dessert but were spoiled by a delicious choice. Our decision was to return very soon and we decided on Summer Fruits Pavlova. Words fail me: it was unbelievable! If I were forced to make any criticism, it is that the closing time is too early but with the current economic situation, nowhere can afford to stay open on the off-chance that people will continue drink and eat. I will be returning very soon. The only reason for my long absence is I hadn't noticed that my social life had been dormant since lockdown. An evening at the Fox is a great reminder of what I have been missing. Many thanks to all the staff for a fabulous evening.

Went with partner and children and received fantastic service. The food, staff prices, atmosphere was all on point making it an enjoyable experience. It is slightly out of the way however it makes it up with everything mentioned above. We are already planning our next visit.

My friend and I went for lunch here but were extremely disappointed with the food. I ordered sausages in onion gravy with bubble and squeak and she had chicken casserole. Firstly the sausages with bubble and squeak …. My understanding of bubble and squeak was mashed potatoes with vegetables mashed together and fried until golden brown on the outside … here their version was mashed potato with a few veggies niched in … yuk! Onion gravy? Guess what? Yep, gravy with a few bits of raw red onion floating around! Chicken casserole … two very small chicken thighs with very little meat on them, frozen chips and veg. From memory £13.95 each dish … which probably cost around £3 to produce. Trifle for desert … don’t even go there. £44 for a very second rate pub meal! Never again! The people on the next table had lasagne … my dog looked at them longingly, she thought they were eating her dinner!!!!!

Main meals seem to start at £13 and desserts are £7, just slightly higher than I am used to locally elsewhere. The meals were OK, but the salad ordered for one of them arrived as peas. The bill had the "Service Not Included" with a pen circle around it, such to bring your attention to it, I found that annoying and I left without leaving a tip.

Visited twice on our holiday for evening meals. Both times the food and service were excellent. My wife said that the steak was one of the best she's had. I can also recommend the TFI burger - which I had both times. Nice beer too.

Four of us had a lovely dinner celebrating a birthday - the food was delicious - a refreshing prawn cocktail to start and the guys had steaks with an extra request of fried eggs on top which they devoured! The battered plaice was lovely, not greasy, and the same with the scampi - and the homemade coleslaw is yummy. The staff and Manager Lynn were so friendly & helpful and made the whole evening very enjoyable!

We haven't visited the Fox for several months, so were delighted to be invited by friends to attend their anniversary. We were warmly welcomed at the door & shown straight to our table. The Fox has made a great effort to be Covid secure. Within seconds our drink order was taken & arrived a couple of minutes later. The menu & specials board was full of variety making it difficult to choose. It all looked so good & so it proved as our starters and mains were absolutely delicous & just the right size for hungry guests. My friend wanted garden peas & an egg on his steak!!. No problem said the lovely waitress & so it arrived. The whole Fox team were really attentive throughout the evening, nothing was too much trouble and we finally said good bye after a truly lovely night out. The Fox was very busy last night but in all honesty we felt we were the only guests there, it was that good!!

Wonderful to find the Fox is back open again after lockdown. We had a wonderful meal and as always the lovely Fox team looked after us so well. The Fox was spotless throughout with clear simple signs to show you to the table, loos and exit, so we felt very safe indeed and the serving team wore their masks throughout. We would thoroughly recommend you book a table - it was such a joy to go out but then to have such a lovely evening put a huge smile on all our faces !! Thank you to the Fox

Food..... DELICIOUS Service.... Top NotchAtmosphere.... GreatFriendly.... Helpful.... Fun2 people went there off spec for lunch and were pleasantly surprised, there was a Birthday Party there which added to the atmosphere. Every plate I saw was cleaned. We had the Lamb Shank, mash & 3 veg and the Beef Lasagne, salad, coleslaw and garlic bread. All of it was delicious. Pudding was the Apple & Toffee Crumble with Custard and the warm Chocolate Fudge Cake with cream, both were again delicious- if you can find this hidden gem, go, eat, drink, enjoy, and go back again! Four people, two children and two wet muddy dogs arriving at well gone 3.00 pm on Sunday looking for food. This could be the story of a disaster but it wasn't. All the staff were very friendly, charming and delightful and the food was good and hot and freshly cooked. It was not Michelin star stuff but but after a wet muddy dog walk in the rain it was perfect. I was very impressed by the whole abidance of the pub, the customers being as friendly as the staff. My friend and I have used this pub before for an evening meal and a chat. Arriving early and at the beginning of the week means that you can always get a table although I usually book anyway. Great menu and always some interesting “special”Add a good range of drinks and it’s a winner all round. So if you want a great meal with great landlady and staff attention at a fair price the this is a place for you.

Another excellent Sunday lunch at The Fox. Staff are always extremely helpful and friendly. Perfect place for a Sunday roast and there is a varied additional menu if preferred. The lamb shank in minted gravy was succulent with new potatoes and vegetables. The roast pork and crackling cooked to perfection. One criticism, not enough crackling. The rib-eye steak excellent also. Followed by delicious puddings. We’ll be back.

Prawn cocktail was tasteless my partner said. He ordered the full Yankee Grill and all the meat, including the sausage was burnt or overcooked. My steak and kidney pudding was crispy on top like a pie. Sticky table. Pretty disappointing but we were hungry. My partner mentioned the over cooked meat but nothing was said. Won’t be going back there. Ha! And the toilet seat lid in the ladies won’t stay up!! Lol

Unfortunately the website doesn't tell you that only assistance dogs are allowed inside. Having walked a couple of miles (with dog) to get there, this was disconcerting. There is a small Smokers Patio alongside the road, but unless you enjoy your ale and food laced with petrol fumes, and to the symphonic roar of passing traffic, best to give it a miss.
