We stayed in a holiday cottage near to the Foresters, so it was very convenient for lunchtime drinks & evening meals. The quality (and quantity!!) of their food was EXCELLENT & at a very reasonable price. The staff were very friendly & welcoming, as were the locals who obviously enjoy & support this community-run pub. Try it - you won't be disappointed!!!

We recently enjoyed a fabulous Sunday lunch with friends here at the Forresters Arms. Great atmosphere, friendly and welcoming staff and superb food. We had a great choice of roasts, lots of different veggies and the biggest yorkshire pudding I have ever seen. Thinking we couldn’t eat another thing , we did! And there was a great selection of puddings on offer - delicious. We will definitely be back soon

Just moved to Leyburn not too far from this lovely pub. Trying out the local pubs in the area and this delightful pub ticked all the boxes!. Was kindly fit in on a very busy Friday night. Lovely vibe and all the staff very friendly and welcoming. Food excellent, very tasty, well cooked and good value. The young lady who served us was a credit to the team unfortunately didn’t get her name. We will be back.!

This is a very friendly pub, which does very good food at reasonable prices. The beer is superb and the only problem is that everyone seems to want to drink it! The new hosts are very good humoured and amiable. They are clearly making every effort to ensure that this community pub succeeds and so I was delighted, as a visitor to the village, to do my bit.

We stayed at this lovely pub set in a wonderful location. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the friendly hosts served us with lovely dinners and a great cooked breakfast. You can't ask for anything more from a good value B&B. I was completely suckered by a wifi code gag, which just added to our fun stopover! I can thoroughly recommend The Forrester!

Lovely Dales pub with friendly hosts and staff. A good selection of beers, all of which are kept very well, with a special mention for the Theakston's Old Peculiar, which is (surprisingly) served from the keg and is an absolute delight. Food portions are generous and the Steak and Ale Pies are fantastic. A proper pub with proper food and drink, heaven.

We arrived on a very cold dark day to be welcomed by Keith. We had the king room at the front of the building facing the road, let's just say traffic noise wasn't a problem. The room was warm, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The bar and restaurant areas are lovely, a proper traditional pub, and the fire a real bonus. Lesley took our food orders steak pie for him, and a steak for me, the portions were huge and very well cooked, all fresh local produce. We shared a home made coconut tart and custard. After food we wandered back into the bar to have a few drinks, we had a great evening chatting to Keith and lesley who were very friendly and welcoming. A stagger up the stone stairs and a very good night's sleep. Breakfast was excellent and well cooked, again all local produce. We throughly enjoyed our stay, and can't wait to go back. Top notch all round with fantastic hospitality. From the moment we called, early in the morning, to see if we could check in early (to get ready for a wedding), to the moment we checked out the next day, we felt welcomed and at home. The landlord was kind, friendly and couldn’t do enough for us - really glad we chose to stay here. It was easy walking distance from Carlton Towers where our friends were getting married. The rooms were clean and tidy and breakfast was good. Would highly recommend to stay here.

We ate here three times recently. The atmosphere is very friendly and the food is good. However on the third occasion, despite booking a table, we waited 90 minutes for our food. The pub was very busy, but they seemed to have taken more orders than they could cope with. There was no explanation offered for the delay, which would have helped. After we had complained, they waived the price of our meals in recognition of the delay, so fair play to them. Despite providing side plates, bread was only offered on one of the evenings. What are the side plates for?So while we would recommend this pub, they need to sharpen up a little.

We just loved this place. We stayed in the Middleham area for a week of walking and came across this place when out hiking. This is very much a community pub and has a great welcoming feel to it. The staff were chatty and couldn’t do enough for us.The first meal was excellent. Proper fish and chips, mushy peas etc for me and a fine steak for my husband. The meal started with a platter of fresh breads and butter. We were so impressed that we went back for a second meal at the end of our stay.....And yep.....just as good as the first. I broke my cardinal rule of not eating a curry in a pub but it was superb. It was served with nan bread and mango chutney. The menu is changed on a seasonal basis so included different types of fish and a rabbit dish if you are that way inclined. Portion sizes were good, so much so we couldn’t manage a dessert on either visit. There was a good selection of real ales on tap (according to my husband) and they were very knowledgeable about their wines. The place is spotlessly clean as mentioned in previous reviews. We ate in the bar as we had our dog with us but the restaurant looked very nicely laid out. This place was incredibly busy on our second visit. A party of 30 turned up just after we arrived but despite this they didn’t forget us and were just as attentive. This is a local’s pub but they make visitors very welcome. Clearly community pubs are the way forward.

We found The Forresters by chance and real good luck as our southern family were having a weeks walking holiday and had based themselves in Melmerby so we decided to join them for the bank holiday weekend. From my initial enquiry to our subsequent departure nothing was too much trouble for Kimberley Allan or any of there staff. Our room was beautiful with a view to die for across the dale with a stream gently flowing by our window. The room was very well appointed and as per several other comments very tasteful clean and extremely good value for money. The breakfast was wonderful with plenty of home cooked variety and set us both up for the rest of the day so much we had to skip lunch. On the Sunday afternoon thirteen of us enjoyed lunch at the Forresters which we all really loved after a nice Sunday walk spending the rest of the afternoon enjoying catching up with friends and family in the snug ... It was wonderful in every way. Finally on the Sunday evening we finished our stay with the locals who all bar none made us both feel so welcome. Clearly all very proud of there community pub and so they should be its fantastic and we are already planning our next visit. Thank you Carlton in Coverdale for a truely wonderful dales pub and long my your success continue.

We were staying in a nearby holiday cottage for a long weekend so popped in here for dinner. The owners and staff are so friendly and the service throughout the nice was impeccable. The atmosphere was so lovely and cosy and I agree about the toilets- amazing! They're clean and smart and provide proper soaps etc! Food wasn't slow at all, yet the staff checked in to assure us it would soon be there and the wait was due to everything being cooked fresh. When the food arrived, we were not disappointed- portions were generous and it was all very tasty. There were a few niggles, such as the pie not being quite rich and juicy enough, and the brownie for desert was a bit dry, which perhaps make the food a little pricey for what it is. However, I would definitely return time and time again for the wonderful atmosphere and all round fantastic experience of this lovely country pub.

We stayed for two nights 14th 15th May 2013 as a base for walking in the Dales. Excellent accomodation and setting in an uspoiled village. The staff and proprietors were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts, with a great variety of fresh fruit and cereals and the option for a 'Full English' to follow, was plentiful varied and cooked to order. It was more than enough to see us through to the evening meal without a need for any lunch. We ate in the inn both evenings and the quality of the food was a very good standard for 'pub fayre'. I can certainly recommend the 'Three birds game pie'. which was cooked to order and well worth the wait! The real ale choice was kept well and good quality, and slipped down a treat. A well run model of a 'community pub' saved by the village folk...well done! We will be back!

We were a party of six, with two vegetarians, and had no complaints. The service was friendly and efficient, and the food was excellent, well prepared and nicely presented. There is a bar area (where we ate) and a more formal restaurant, but I think the menus are the same...beef, pasta, lamb, magnificent onion rings!! My meal (steak) came out and looked great, although my stone wasn’t hot enough to cook my steak, onions and mushrooms, my steak although looked great, tasted horrible. £23 to only be satisfied with the chips! My wife also couldn’t eat the chicken and neither could my father Inlaw, only eating less that half there meals. I wouldn’t go back if I’d not Eaton for a month and was offered a free meal!
