Chez Maw in Telford and Wrekin

We went here for an evening meal. The service by the staff was most welcoming and professional. We chose a three course meal which filled us both up .For the main meal, we chose a sirloin steak cooked medium rare, which when it arrived was cooked to perfection our compliments go to the chef. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for a really nice evening for friends or family..

Pre-dinner drinks on the beautiful terrace. Attentive service by all the staff we encountered. By far the best Arancini anywhere. Delicious sea bass. Catered for lactose intolerance with separate menu. Good choice of wines and gins. Nice busy atmosphere. Would definitely recommend

Working away from home last year and ended up in a a random hotel in Ironbridge. Little did I know I’d have one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

Blew us away. The service, the welcome, the drinks, the food, the pudding. And the toilets are a work of art. Forgot the name of the young girl serving us but she was great. So helpful. Really a fantastic place, ideal for big families. Lovely!!

What a shame! Read the reviews and headed there. First, the menu at the entrance of the restaurant bears little resemblance to the menu inside. Second, the starter (which I asked for details of it before ordering) was very different: I ordered a fish pate, and as stated, I got 3 slivers of limp mackerel instead. The dauphinoise potatoes were super dry. I did not eat my started or side dish. Only got 'these things happen' response from the front of house. A totally spoiled evening, where my husband ate his food, and i didn't. The only saving grace was the lovely young server, who was delightful and empathetic. Do not recommend it. I will not be back!

Ate here recently while staying at the Best Western in Ironbridge - what a great restaurant. We had the best meal here out of our two weeks in England. The staff were absolutely fantastic, too.

Disappointing. Far too salty (all meals had). Portions, especially entrées very small. Mains overcooked. A printed menu which is beginning to mean to me that they have no interest in their food. Staff very friendly, environment pleasant but a missed opportunity. A place that could easily be a destination restaurant.

Superb food 5* Service We booked Chez Maw in advance for dinner as we had read previous rave reviews, so glad we did! The restaurant is excellent, the food is superb! Fine dining in a lovely cosy restaurant . There is plenty of choice on the menu, with everything cooked to absolute perfection, our thanks to the Chef who is obviously very talented! The staff are attentive and engaging, Thank you to Chris and the rest of the team for a memorable Dinner. We hope to return.

Amazing experience! They accommodated us on short notice and we were a group of 8 people! Nothing but the best service and the nicest staff could not recommend more :) Lee was so courteous and friendly and couldn’t go out of his way anymore if he tried, very welcoming!!

Great service, vey good food, excellent venue and not bad prices. Used the bar before and after our meal, were given a nice table and all 4 of us enjoyed the overall experience. We will be back

First time dining here and wow. Food was the best I've ever had. The portion sizes were just right too. Waiters were absolutely fantastic. If I could give a higher score, I would. I'll definitely be going back.

We all enjoyed the evening. The food, the waiters the ambiance and the fact we were totally unrushed. I'm not surprised that Chez Maw is No 1 in the area. It really lives up to it's recommendation. Especially the young lady waitress.

In a tourist pocket, you're lucky if you can find a place that has truly good food. The cuisine at Chez Maw, was outstanding! Not really British. Perhaps New Brit. Exceptional presentation and well prepared meals. For starters, we had the arancini. The aioli under it was a bit overdone, but the arancini themselves were delicious. We had the chicken wrapped in pancetta, the sea bass, and a wonderful stewed lamb served with a mint yogurt, and a cold couscous medley. The afters menu featured a few nice treats, including a peach creme brûlée and a sticky toffee pudding. They have a good bar, like most in England, not big on craft cocktails,but serviceable enough on everything else. Service was first rate. You can book it on OpenTable. Parking is the hotel's lot.

We were looking for somewhere a little bit special for an all-too-rare meal out, and we were not disappointed. The food was outstanding (try the mackerel pate and the chicken with pancetta), the service was prompt and friendly, and the price was very reasonable. My only gripe is that one or two more veggie options would have been nice.

A lovely restaurant in a beautiful setting. I am coeliac and the staff were very knowledgeable and attentive. I was blown away by the amount of options available on the gluten-free diet, to the extent I had to question if I was given the correct menu! The food was presented beautifully and full of flavour. Really delicious food, freshly cooked. We were there, in the hotel, three nights so tried a variety of courses and every one was superb.

We ate dinner here two evenings whist staying at The Valley hotel. The menu had a good selection, food was delicious, nicely presented with good size portions. Service by the friendly team was very good. The restaurant looks newly decorated and is attractively furnished and comfortable. In addition the ladies toilets are very striking, certainly worth a mention! Both the Continental and cooked buffet breakfasts were well prepared and replenished promptly. Again serving staff were very friendly and helpful.

Excellent wine choice and a decent menu. The three courses we had were exceptional. My beef croquettes to start unusual but lovely. Pulled lamb for main again so moist and succulent could have eaten it twice. Chocolate tart with hazelnut ice cream a nice way to finnish. My only small criticism is it lacks a good atmosphere but apart from that it's a big 5 from the oakly56.

Second visit in a couple of weeks for a month of birthdays and anniversaries. The food is exceptional and only topped by the friendly, attentive and superb service across the waiters, bar-tenders and restaurant management staff that always exceeds expectations.

booked a table for 8pm we waited for quite a while for service. We only ordered a starter of melon, which in fairness was very nicely presented. My friend ordered a creme brulee and a latte. But again very slow service despite the restaurant being half empty. have never been to a restaurant and not left a tip but this is what we did here.

Two of us decided to have dinner here whilst we were staying in Ironbridge and what a good choice it was. The whole experience was faultless. The setting was airy and comfortable, waiting on staff were friendly and efficient and service was really slick. Lovely food off a varied menu which hit the spot with both of us. Highly recommended.

We were struggling to find somewhere to eat on a Sunday evening, and not knowing the area asked the staff in the White Hart where we should go as they don't open their restaurant on a Sunday evening, It was suggested that we go to Chez Maw. We were really extremely pleased we went stunningly beautiful gardens to sit & have pre dinner drinks, then a table right in front of the window for us as the lady had noted how we had enjoyed the garden, really great food, at incredibly sensible prices, happy engaging staff. Been staying at the BW Valley Hotel (Ironbridge) and eating in the Chez Maw restaurant annually for last 10 years. Food is always exceptional and all the staff professional. Reasonable prices for this quality. A difficult 2 years for everyone under Covid and especially hospitality venues, however Valley Hotel and Chez Maw restaurant managed to overcome the difficulties and stayed open with full restrictions in place, but providing a safe environment for all guests. A genuine compliment to all management and staff under difficult times and especially under the new ownership. Standards always maintained on each visit and new investment has only enhanced the ambience, decor of this great establishment. Hope to return yet again this year (2022) for some relaxation and superb food and hospitality.

I didn’t think much of the breakfast arrangement queuing outside the restaurant and unless you had hot the cold choices were very limited and basic. However the dinner experience was very good, tasty, hot and well served food.

The food was delicicious.Everything else was disastrous.Greeted? Well, sort of. Welcomed? Absolutely not.The service was worse than poor. At each stage we had to remind staff of requests, four times for the bill! However, the chef provided the lovely food at a good, comfortable pace.Usually there are two young men, twins who weren’t on shift that evening. What a shame as they are superb in their welcome, engaging and pleasant. Other staff need a shake. This restaurant has been special to our family for a long time. My daughter’s Wedding reception was held in the restaurant and we have been regulars for over 25 years, so I think we can make a fair judgment.Despite the pandemic, there were provisions made for safe eating but to eat at tables that resembled those of an old transport cafe, in a dreary atmosphere with appalling choices of music, namely divas yelling, was not conducive to a calm, relaxing first time out after Covid shutdown. There was not a pleasant atmosphere although it wasn’t busy that evening, but staff seemed to have little training. Chez Maw has changed hands.....please come back Lesley Casson and Hubby. Disappointing. Add to all this that the bill took ages to come because it was handwritten’(although I fail to understand why that should make it a 20 minute wait, I don’t know. When it came they had overcharged us by £15.50 for two items we hadn’t ordered. We were offered a fleeting apology. ☹️

As this restaurant is part of the hotel where i was staying only seemed right I should eat there too. This isn't your average hotel restaurant, the food is amazing and not only well presented but also very tasty. The staff are great and work their socks off every evening. Well worth eatin here just once if staying in the area, no more expensive that the other places in town.

Hotel restaurants don't always inspire much confidence but this was an excellent choice for eating in with good starter, main course and dessert. Ate outside and staff very conscientious about COVID-19 precautions. All the outside tables full but well separated. Well-staffed and served drinks and food timely despite the restrictions. Food was tasty, well presented and good value. Mix from decent lamb shank and risotto to fish and chips or burger as you prefer. Good range of starters as well.Like I say, hotel restaurants don't usually inspire much confidence but like the hotel this was unexpectedly good and staff in particular a credit to the place.

We booked at the Valley Hotel for a couple of days with friends on a very acceptable deal that included Dinner. The bedroom was OK , small (very)but sufficientI perhaps what you might expect for a cheap 'deal'I rather expected a limitation on what might be on the menu and a reasonably good Hotel Restaurant. Firstly thewhole a la carte menu was available, Secondly, the menu looked very attractive and varied. Thirdly, and best of all the food was excellent far better that many much higher starred hotel Restaurants I have visited. There were 4 of us and each of us declared their choice of menu over 2 days to be of a very high standard. The service was equally as good , friendly and helpful without being overbearing. The breakfast was excellent and cooked to order.Between us we had a variety of options that included sea bass, risotto, a lovely pulled lamb dish, steak, a trio of pork and a particularly well considered duck dish as mains.My Ham hock starter was also very tastyIt was my first visitto the Valley Hotel and it will not be my last. Ironbridge is wonderful with much to visit (we could have done a day in the Victorian village ) and the welcome and in particular the Dinner and Breakfast made for a lovely few days.

We have been to the Valley Hotel for many Christmas Day meals and want to say once again how fabulous it was. The food and service were top class and it has such a lovely feel and makes Christmas Day very special for us all. Special mention to Lee who always looks after us brilliantly and the staff are always very accomodating with food changes which we very much appreciate.Thank you for another brilliant Christmas day...we enjoy it that much we have booked again for 2020.

Stayed at The Best Western Valley Hotel from Wednesday 20th November 2019 until today 22nd November 2019. Ate at the Chez Maws restaurant for both evening meals and breakfasts. Having stayed at various hotels in the past I would highly recommend this restaurant. The food was superb. Evening meals were absolutely delicious with a nice choice. Bravo chef and his staff….who I undestand has been with the hotel for 25 years !!!! The waiting staff in the evening were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. The staff made sure our stay was a great experience, which it was. Thank you. The breakfasts were also yummy with excellent sausage,bacon,eggs,mushrooms,tomato,baked beans,black pudding,hash browns and toast !!!! Oh and fried bread !!!!! All cooked beautifully and served by an attentive staff. Excellent and thank you everyone for a great meal experience. Will now not eat for a week as so full !!!! Thank you once again to both evening staff and morning staff for making us so welcome and ensuring that our dining exoerience was one we will remember for many a year. Merry Xmas to you and your families.

We returned to The Chez Maw at The Valley Hotel for a family dinner, having not been for a while and it didn’t disappoint. Ten of us ate. The restaurant was busy. Lovely atmosphere in the hotel. We had drinks in the bar prior to our meal. The service in the bar and restaurant was efficient and friendly. We all the meal was delicious and beautifully presented.

Our son got married at this hotel and we were very impressed with the service received so decided to go there for our wedding anniversary. A superb meal was had at this establishment. The staff are very courteous & attentive. After our starter there was a little wait for the main course & the chef sent us a small cup of tomatoe & basil soup with his compliments. At the end of the meal the waitress brought over a sharing plate with fresh fruit & chocolate fudge cake squares decorated with the word 'congratulations' for our anniversary which really was a thoughtful & special gesture. Will definitely return.

Part of the Best Western Valley hotel. Plenty of parking. Varied selection of food including daily specials. Excellent customer service and care and a very slick operation, taking your order whilst in the bar area then seating just before the food comes out. The food is also beautifully presented. Cosy atmosphere. Booking advisable at busy times.

We happened to be staying at this hotel anyway, so it made sense to eat here as the menu looked terrific, plus it was fully booked on on day of arrival, always a good indicator! The restaurant does have rosette awards for food. There is a reasonable choice of vegetarian food, and the puddings were better than the average menu, so we indulged and it was well worth it. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant for an evening meal.

We arrived at the hotel too late to find anywhere to eat in the village so decided to try the chez maw again and were not disappointed. The food was served fairly promptly and was excellent quality and the price was reasonable.

This restaurant offers a tranquil ambience if you are looking for a quiet, romantic meal. The food is fine dining quality and the staff are very efficient and professionally trained. Definitely worth a visit when at the Ironbridge.

This is a chef who really knows what he is doing. The main dishes are carefully prepared using interesting and imaginative ingredients, with results as unexpected as they are delicious. In two visits we tried shoulder of lamb, duck breast and sea trout, and in each case we were delighted with our choice. A mushroom soup was a little too salty in my opinion, but that is just a matter of taste. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the service was efficient. It’s worth asking for a table by the window.

Amazing food and excellent service

We stayed here for 2 nights and had dinner on the second night. The restaurant was very busy with a large party and several smaller groups. Despite this the service was very good and provided cheerfully by the staff who were very attentive.

Excellent food, buffet breakfast staff very helpful. Especially liked the cod cheeks & the cheeseboard.

A lovely afternoon tea in Chez Maw that finished us off for a few hours such was the volume. Fresh sandwiches, scones and cakes to die for. served with a smile from staff who really care. Well worth the experience.

Both my husband and I have dietary issues, but the staff catered and prepared things that appealed to us both for breakfast, and an evening meal, and was served by very efficient staff. Food superb. Highly recommend.

I like the novel approach of drinking in the bar whilst the staff take your order. You are then escorted to your table and your first course is brought to you within a few minutes. Food is excellent, with taste as good as it looks. I couldn't possibly recommend anything as everything was top notch. They obviously have a talented chef here, with a well trained young waiting staff.

I am not easily impressed by restaurant menus, my husband feels I am very difficult to please. However this restaurant menu offers fresh seasonal food cooked to order which enables folk like me with allergies to have ingredients left out as necessary. I was delighted with the options available and found it quite difficult to select as everything sounded delicious. When the food arrived it was beautifully presented and all three of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Every course was wonderful. I would absolutely definitely recommend This hotel for a great meal and relaxed. My husband also felt that the beer From the local brewery was excellent Salopean.

We decided to visit this restaurant whilst visiting Ironbridge as it was voted number 1 on trip advisor . How disappointed we were!.We had a drink in the bar while we waited for our table but found it to be extremely lacking in atmosphere.When we were led to our table in the restaurant it was ok but again soul less.The staff were very attentive but the meals were average. my husbands duck meal was cold and my vegetarian was ok nothing more.We have been to much better restaurants in the Ironbridge area.

Dinner with a small group of friends; rather typical hotel restaurant cuisine. None of our party were eiter enthusiastic or disappointed and the fare was acceptable, but we ate much better for about two thirds of the cost the next night in the village.

It had been a while since my wife and I last visited Chez Maw but we had always had nice meals in the past so we were quite looking forward to our visit.

Having got married at this hotel 17 years ago we held it in high regard so when invited for afternoon tea with family we didn’t hesitate

I don't normally expect much from a small provincial chain restaurant but the food quality was excellent. My wife had the main of of sea bream which was cooked very well. My main of duck was superbly cooked, very tender and perfectly seasoned. Food slightly let down by the sterile atmosphere and average service.

We reserved for 8pm and when we arrived on time we were asked to sit and order a drink in the bar. We asked to see the menu and we were told they would have to check if it was possible.

As you get older it is suggested your taste buds diminish, following a meal at the Chez Maw we were tempted to get our buds checked. The meal was, apart from dessert, rather bland and verging on the tasteless. We both had ‘Chicken Bon Bons’ for starters which turned out to be pulled chicken formed into balls and, presumably, fried. The strongest flavour was the dib of mayonnaise on the top of each and salt on the accompanying lettuce.

The restaurant is in the hotel and as you walk from your room you see the lovely tiled walls which we apparently from the original owner. The restaurant is set in a nice room with pleasant surroundings, the menu was of good choice and had plenty of interesting meals.

Meal with friends 3 of us had the Shropshire beer battered haddock witch was lovely and crispy. The other meal was the blade of beef equally delicious For desert we had sticky toffee pudding and cheese and biscuits very nice. The service was excellent

We wanted to book for 7pm but there were no vacancies until 8pm but were not seated at the table until 8.30 by which time I was starving. We were not the only ones as a couple we spoke to in the bar had been waiting the same amount of time.This seemed down to the Maître 'd as there were empty tables.
