Come to this cafe if you enjoy being ignored - went to buy some cakes and drinks and waited whilst other people were served ahead of us even if they came in after us - staff were rude and dismissive don’t waste your money. I walk out after waiting over 25 minutes to be served. It also wasn’t busy when this happened as only one couple was sat outside perhaps this was due to the poor customer service

Lovely to be able to grab a coffee and something to eat before embarking on the cruise on the canal.

Been going to this place for a number of years and whilst the staff are different from the familiar and very friendly old crew the sandwiches and produce are pretty much the same. Fresh cut sandwiches made to order whilst you wait. A plentiful selection and all very fresh ingredients. You can eat outside at the tables on a fine day and there is parking. Whilst we have been having our kitchen done it has been a great place for a quick lunch.

I bought a jacket potato and egg mayo filling. When I got home there was chicken AND tuna mayo mixed in with the egg. I have to be careful of food contamination. They also used fingers to grab cheese to put on the potato. That's not really acceptable even outside Covid. I would have asked for a replacement but I didn't see that until my relative told me once we'd walked away. Has to chuck the meal because I could not risk the food. Very disappointed. I won't be going back.

A fantastic place for getting a sandwich, salad, etc. They stock local goods and the food in fantastic. Also, the brownies are actually some of the best brownies I've ever eaten.

Had a little trip on the ripon canal ‘cruise’ this morning and when we arrived back it was time for a bite to eat and we spotted ‘The Forge’ Gorgeous sandwiches , loads of lovely fresh fillings at a very reasonable price. It’s primarily a takeaway but there are a few tables outside , unfortunately they were all taken so we walked back towards town and found a lovely shady bench by the river and had a picnic. We’ll definitely call in here again, delicious.

We always go to The Forge when we’re in Ripon. Lovely sandwiches (the bacon buties are my favouriate but there’s a huge menu of options), and the best cakes! The flapjack is divine!! Whilst it is a takeaway shop, there are a couple of tables outside and sitting there on a nice day is so peaceful and relaxing. Just at the Canal Basin and with a car park, it’s so much easier than fighting your way into the centre of Ripon. I’ve even bought a few of the Christmas gift bags they sell in the run up to Christmas and my friends/family have always loved them! Definitely recommended!! Ps not surprised at all to see they’ve won awards!

coffee, in a mug, and excellent sausage sandwich hit the spot. The staff were courteous and happy to serve us making us feel as though our custom was welcome. Everything looks home-made and put together only once ordered. Fresh and tasty. Welcoming and helpful. A takeaway, for sure, but with four tables for four outside in such a pleasant position, I'll go again. It was busy.

After a lovely 6 miles canal stroll, what could be better than sitting outside in the sunshine and having a good cup of tea and a freshly made sandwich at this lovely takeaway cum cafe. This is my second visit here and the sandwiches continue to be top class and are generously filled. The choice of fillings is comprehensive and they also do hot food. Service is very friendly and efficient.

Stayed very close by for a holiday and could see that they had a constant stream of people going in and out, as well as sitting to eat on the outside tables. Their local pork pies from Voyces - I think that's correct - were especially tasty!

Although The Forge is primarily a takeaway, it is worth noting that it has a few tables outside; and as I write this review I am seated at a table on the wharf looking down the beautiful canal, enjoying a mug of tea and a splendid bacon and egg butty.

We stayed for > 10 days in a holiday flat just a few steps away and loved the sandwiches and the cakes (photos). The food is great, people are very friendly and the sandwiches are one of the best we ever tried - they are made directly after order. One of my favorites ist coronation chicken, I really enjoyed it and took it with me for several walks in the Dales. The Cakes are delicious, too! We hope to come again next year and can really recommend this place! (MathiasFrenzel@gmx.net)

I have never actually called in this place but have often tasted their wares and I have never been disappointed, lovely fresh sandwiches, good quality pies etc all from Vokes I believe, good selection of hot and cold drinks, all in all the best in Ripon according to my mate Jake who can never pass this place without calling in for a breakfast bun or chicken tolls roll and a pork pie or two for me, must call in myself one day and fill me boots.

I only found out about this place from friends, even though I often cut through the car park I never realised it was there. Inside it's great, a wide selection of drinks and loads of sandwich choices. Plenty of sausage rolls and pies too, plus some great looking cake.

Dropped into Ripon looking for coffee directed by a helpful local gentleman to the Forge at the Canal Basin, a couple of hundred yards from racecourse roundabout on bypass. Free off street car parking, Greeted by lovely ladies offering a fantastic range of sandwiches, famous Vokes pies, Pipers Lincolnshire crisps, sweet treats, coffee teas and cold drinks, two excellent large and very fresh sandwiches, salad , a large Vokes sausage roll, crisps drinks and a sweet treat to share, welcome bowl of water for doggy . 11 quid great value, two minute walk into city centre or a lovely canal side walk to canal marina to view some lovely narrow boats. Great place to meet before racing two good pubs in near vicinity or a great place to simply drop in and take a break we will definitely return

We really enjoyed our lunch at Cafe Massarella today. The salad was very fresh with tasty pasta and pesto, a wholesome and flavourful soup was just what needed for a very cold day, and a good chicken, bacon and cheese.

Came on a Saturday at 7pm and it was surprisingly quiet - not sure if it gets busier later on? Drinks selection is decent. Downside was the place smelled a bit.

If I could rate lower I would.!! We came for some lunch; me, my partner and 2 children (youngest being 18m) my youngest was making a little bit of noise, nothing too loud and the owner comes over and says we are having a lot of complaints, the noise is getting too much and asked us to leave saying customers have come to spend their hard earned cash there. We had also just spent around £45 of our own hard earned cash and was made to feel very unwelcome. The noise from our 1 year old was just a normal amount you would expect from any small child who is not able to speak yet or communicate properly. If children are not welcome I think they need to put a sign on the door rather than make paying customers feel unwelcome, also the owner needs to learn some communication skills. Very disappointed and will direct anyone I know away from this place!!
