The Forge in Winchester

This is probably the best Carvery in the South, and we have been to a few. We attended the Wickham food festival 🥮 and this was just somewhere we found to eat. It's so lovely inside and has lovely decor. It's a pleasure to be here. It was Sunday and it was very busy. We could buy a drink 🍷 🍻 and wait 🫷 outside. Nice outside area and warm 🥵 enough to dine out. Very soon we had our table in a very nice place. The queue was very long and soon we were at the hotplate and you can go left or right to be served. The team are very professional and friendly, I feel that they have all been properly trained as all staff were very attentive.. 🎂🍪 are to die for, my next trip will be dessert only. Best to go in the week when it's quiet and more cost effective. After dinner 🍽️ you can go on the adult sized swing. Top marks for the Forge. You can get a massive takeaway to.

Incredible Sunday roast! It's always difficult to find a decent roast but they have hit the nail on the head. Great food, great atmosphere and all for a great price. What more could you want

Not great. I’ve heard such great things about this place so was really disappointed when we came last night. The food as average at best..the potatoes were hard as though they hadn’t being boiled at all! Food was luke warm The lady serving said the gravy was gluten free so I’d covered my dinner in it and started eating it to then be told by my mother who was queuing after me that they’d brought out actual gluten free gravy after I’d left and started eating!! So thanks for that, I’ll be suffering for weeks now. It’s cheap and you can definitely see why

Brilliant price for the roast, lovely food, have been a few times and never any complaints with the food always fresh, hot and delicious. Very clean, toilets lovely and clean too. Can be very busy if you get there for 12 when they first start serving, and to let you no foods ready they ring a bell it becomes a bit like a cattle market! It's not done on a first come first serve it seems to be who ever gets to the carvery first. Staff always friendly.

Probably not the best carvery we had last night...only because I felt the roast potatoes were frozen ones and not fresh ...it wasnt the best roast ive had from there and was a bit dissapointed if im honest because we eat here on a regular basis and potatoes have always been fresh.

I went here on a Thursday evening, to find hardly any staff, there was 1 person rushed of his feet at the bar, there was 1 person cutting the meat while serving food and trying to wash up at the same time. So service was slow. Very under staffed an so alot of waiting for food and service. And staff were miserable. Won't be going back.

A local refurbished Turkish ran and inspired restaurant offering the most amazing carvery today at 6pm. Very polite staff, though beer pulling not the best, were attentive, courteous and eager. The aforementioned beer, a popular cornish brand was off and even the second attempt to pour proved unsuccessful. However, the food was piping hot, bountiful, extremely well cooked and as our small party noted 'so filling they couldn't eat even a wafer thin mint'. We will be going again in the near future. Fully recommended.

Since there extension it's absolutely beautiful and the food is definitely the best for a carvery they don't hold back on the meat nice portions

Hearty portion for a more than fair price. Lots of parking round the back. Meat was a bit dry on this visit, but I understand it's usually even better.

Had the carvery, very good value. Good choice of vegetables, shame, no sorbet or dairy free desserts. I think if you order of the menu tends to be a wait for the food.

2nd time in less than a month - the food is amazing- delicious. A little bit disorganised when you and the initial groups of people arrive at 12pm from two entrances, when they open; not sure if there is a queue to find out your table number, and another for ordering drinks, or you do both. It didn't take long and staff were great in being attentive and helping people as quickly as possible.

Myself and my family from out of town visited here on Sunday for the first time and we were not disappointed. We all had the carvery and it was delicious. Plenty of meat, a very large selection of vegetables and all piping hot. We were all pushed into a food coma after and a Sunday afternoon nap soon followed (well, for me anyway). We've been to other carverys in the vicinity but this topped them. We will definitely visit again!

Went for a meal with the family had a calvary, I enjoyed the meal it was very tastie fresh cooked produce and very reasonably priced. Look forward to next visit.

I don't usually give bad reviews but if you are vegetarian please AVOID this place, tried to enjoy a meal with friends who eat meat, thought it would be fine but only 2 veggie options which both include the vegetable buffet and people were wiping serving utensils on meat, the putting them back in the veg. Major cross contamination! The staff just said this was always a problem, which is a massive shame.

Family-friendly restaurant. Amazing carvery! Very tasty meat and trimmings. Lovely decor. I particularly like the Turkish, colourful lamps, which make the atmosphere even more special. I'd highly recommend it.

The Forge has quickly become my favourite place to eat. Best carvery I have ever had. Very reasonably priced, and very generous portions of meat. Beautiful Turkish style lights and decor. Friendly staff. The only downside, it's extremely busy on a Sunday. On other days its quiet.

A Turkish carvery restaurant..... Food excellent, a bunch of us went for a carvery, someone had battered cod and someone else a kebab. The carvery was great, three meats and big choice of veg. Roast potatoes could have been a bit better but all in all it was good and the desserts were nice too all at a reasonable price.

Had a sunday carvery here yesterday (02/6) before a long journey home to Cardiff. Food was delicious, plenty of choice, excellent value for money. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Well worth a visit and we will be back

Love this place. Have been there 3 times now with a group of friends and we just love going back there. The price of the Carvery is excellent value for what you get, whether that be the smaller or larger portion. There's plenty of room to move around so those in Wheelchairs or with babies in pushchairs are easy to accommodate.

Had the most wonderful carvery there today everything was so fresh and tasty and at a reasonable cost. Thoroughly enjoyed it

Wow is this place beautiful inside and out. My first time and came for a carvery. We got stuck in traffic so got here later than expected and ate our meal outside sonxe it was a lovely day and the garden was lovely. We were a bit flustered from being in the car and in traffic for so long that we didn't notice or realise it was closing and opening back up later for the dinner service. Instead of asking us to leave which of course the owner had every right to do, the owner informed us they were shutting but wanted to check if we needed the toilet before they closed and said we were more than welcome to carry on sitting out front and enjoy the sun and then came over with a drink on the house for us both and told us to stay and enjoy. Very kind and amazing service. I've already told my husband I will take him there soon as the carvery was fab as well as the staff and venue.

Went there today for the carvery. Excellent. It was one of our relatives 95th birthday and staff were brilliant. Bough out cake with music etc. Would definitely recommend

Amazing food, lovely staff and nice decor. The cavery was incredibly tasty and fresh with good veggie options. The team were super friendly. Also dog friendly! We took our 2 sausage dogs who were well received. Also close to the meon valley trail and the golf course. We aren’t too local but all definitely be back!

First time there. Very good very busy. Food lovely, only advise would be make sure you keep the carvery station topped up and free from spillage. Your success shows by the number of cars trying to park. Your going to need a bigger car park....

Nice place, but personally for me the food isn't as good as it used to be.

DO NOT COME HERE. The only people there were on average either over 80 or in a wheelchair with no teeth. The burgers were terrible. Honestly terrible. They were incredibly dry. Same with the donner. The fish was ok. Same with the hot wings. From a chef for 17ish years, they would honestly have to try and make the food that bad. The waiters are clueless but the one thing they do know is the food is terrible. The decor is confusing mix between northern African and ancient Mediterranean statues and fountains. It is BARE minimum. The lamps are still plastic wrapped, the windows and doors still have fitting tape on and the fountains have no water. I saw great reviews for this place and am just disappointed with the level of carelessness. The menu is misspelt, the cooking oil is dirty and grimy and the service is meh… I had high hopes for the sundaes but there was over double the amount of whipped cream as there was ice cream. Just bleh. The carvery looks rubbish and the only good thing, the cauliflower cheese was watery and runny.😩👎👎 it was an overall waste of money. Please do not go. The gluten free stuff wasn’t gluten free

Best carvery around, we travel from the other side of Southampton 45mins trip we'll worth it for the fòd.

What a beautiful place! The interior is amazing and the food is also excellent. We had a carvery and it was huge, very reasonable price and super tasty too. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was nice. I highly recommend a visit, the outside doesn't reflect what's inside, a true Turkish delight!

A very relaxing atmosphere and good food

The food is fantastic. Let me make that clear, there's no complaints there. The rest of the experience is a bit more of a concern. The car park isn't big enough to facilitate peak times, the general layout is confusing as you have people queuing for carvery, queueing for a ticket, queuing for drinks, and the mens toilet ALL in the same section. It took 2 members of staff to work out how to pour a guinness correctly. Once you've been through all that palava though the food is worth it, great value for money too at £12.50 on a Sunday.

We had a table booked at 5pm for four and a dog. Yes a real🐕. The place was heaving. We've never seen it so busy. But the service was spot on as always and the food excellent and great value for money. Thanks Forge team for a lovely time.

Christmas lunch: There was a group of 6 of us and we all just wanted a nice atmosphere and a good ol roast dinner. £60 per person for 3 course and tea and coffee. The booking and communication wasn't smooth....we were told to visit the venue with 50% in cash to book then got told it was 100% deposit when we went eith cash and then it was half on card..half in a few days...it was frustrating but its a busy time and construction work I'd going on. Atmosphere and customer service: The staff were all miserable and it made us feel a bit uncomfortable. I know it's horrible having to work christmas day (3 of us have all done it in the past) but a simple smile goes a long way and would have likely lead to a generous tip from us. The owner was very grumpy and reminded me of basil faulty and we had to ask to have our tables cleared and more cutlery (which was just plonked down on the table) .no-one ever checked in or popped over in the 3.5 hours we were there. Food: The starters were lovely. We then made our way to the carvery where we were informed that there was no more turkey...my mum and nan ( who don't get out much) were so upset. After several people got annoyed in the queue a turkey crown then appeared a minute later?? I can only assume it had been held back for the staff..very naughty indeed! The veg and meat was all lovely, fresh and well cooked but the potatoes were frozen and so disappointing. The dessert that most of us were looking forward too (the cheesecake) was all gone as had the chocolate fudge cake..most of us ended up with a dry chocolate brownie as an alternative. We never got our tea and coffee...no-one came to clear our desserts and the staff were only interested in running around clearing and cleaning the tables as people were leaving. We did get a merry Christmas when we gave up on the hot drinks and left. All in all, it was disappointing. Half of our family had been there before but none of us will be returning again.

Celebrated my nans 80th here last night & what a lovely place to celebrate! My Nan had a lovely day, thank you to the forge for making sure she had a good time by providing excellent service. Been a couple of times now for the roasts & they’re Devine! You get a generous amount of meat & help yourself to vegetables & gravy which I think is great. It was only £9! (Weekday) Only thing is, considering theres a fair amount of parking it can get very busy which is understandable because the food is incredible! Highly recommend - especially the cheese mash!

You could not fault anything. If you haven't been yet, go you will not regret it 10/10

Fantastic carvery and friendly staff.

This is simply one of the best local restaurants catering for those who love a roast dinner. (Amongst other options) The owner and his team are so super friendly to all that visit. They certainly go above and beyond when it comes to customer service. My friends and I visit most weeks. Highly recommended indeed.

I confess that I didn't realise that the restaurant was open because of the building work at the front (Nov 2023), but I am very glad that it was! The Turkish ambience is beautiful, and the carvery was just superb. I haven't had such tender and flavoursome beef in a very long time, and all the vegetables were well cooked. It is also really good value for money. Now that I know it's there, I will definitely be taking the family there when we want a lovely meal out.

The staff weren't very friendly. Meals were reasonably priced, but this disguises an average, rather tasteless, carvery. The potatoes seemed warmed up and were not 'proper' roasts. Maybe it will be vetter when the building work is finished. Lots of retirees were enjoying themselves buoyed up by the low cost.

Have been multiple times, but the carvery meats were very thin this time, sad because it had a good name for its servings

Having been twice before, today was a little disappointing. Despite phoning and booking a table there was no record of it. Not enough parking spaces for patrons (and they are building an extension!) chaotic and busy atmosphere inside. Nicely decorated and the carvery was decent and tasty for £12, although a long line. It was the busiest I've seen it. My pudding of profiteroles was half a plate of squirty cream and icecream, with actually only 4 small profiteroles. Tables cleared promptly, sometimes being attempted when still eating. There were a lot of staff, some lovely but today we witnessed a lot of them squabbling or moaning amongst themselves loudly in front of customers, they seemed quite stressed and unhappy. Not the makings of a pleasant atmosphere unfortunately.

Very busy limited service Told we had an hour to eat, and then we had to vacate our seats Beef was a bit bland and cut like a 5-year-old had done it, so it was tough and almost like a steak The turkey was reasonably well done and quite succulent Parking is horrendous. Get there early if you want to park and don't park at the back as you can't get out once the rush starts The company does not accept bluelight card or any other discount cards associated with forces or key workers Queuing for carvery was horrendous too, no organisation or general where the que started, so people kept hopping infront of other customers Will we go again Probably not as it was not that good overall

Excellent food. Service is OK. Cleanliness is brilliant. Only fault is they clear the table even if everyone has not finished. Carvery is the best iv had.

Probably the best carvery I have experienced. The meats were all excellent and exceptionally tender. The selection of vegetables was amazing. Parking available at rear due to additional building work in progress at the front.
