Baja Mexicali in Winchester

Best Mexican food I've had in ages. The fish tacos were delicious and enjoyed all the sides we ordered - belly bites, cauliflower, prawns. Oh and the abolsotely best spicy margarita I've had outside of America/London. Those are reason to return enough. Staff also lovely and service was great, nothing not to love, thanks for a great evening! Will be back.

Recently had a lovely meal here. The food was delicious. The drinks were yummy and the service was really quick. Would definitely recommend.

I’ve not really eaten much Mexican food before, so relied on the advice of the server. Can only say the staff are brilliant and food amazing. I would recommend people to visit, I’d definitely like to return and try another dish.

First visit today food was nice but quite small portions,expensive drinks and nearly choked on the bill,then realised we didn't get a choice on the 10% they add for staff.. No complaints on the service staff were great but portion size for the money wasn't great so couldn't afford to go here regularly

First time visit and enjoyed it. All dishes tasted good, including the pulled pork and chorizo quesadilla. Service was friendly and didnt have to wait long food. Would return.

Food is great. Lots of options, all we chose were fantastic. As a vegetarian the menu was poor, with no indication of veggie meals. Many other things indicated (vegan, nuts, gluten, etc) but no veggie, so we had to guess and hope.

This is a little restaurant in the middle of a shopping mall. I was sat in the middle of the room on a high seat at a long table stretching the length of the restaurant, which was fine but meant it felt a little exposed to other diners at around the edges at standard tables. Saying that the food was delicious and arrived promptly. I had a burrito, followed by apple chimichanga, with some drinks. Menu is not huge but that's ok. Great place to come to for a quick bite. Service was excellent and polite.

Great place, lovely service, wonderful food. My only issue is that we were seated on high tables in the middle of the restaurant, so felt a bit on display!

Surprisingly nice little place in the shopping area. Walked past hundreds of times but gave it a try and it was really nice inside and food was good. Will visit again. Friendly staff. Nice change from Gregg's, 5 Guys etc, McDs etc when at Whiteley shops.

Food was ok, small portions and for the 2 of us inc a soft drink it was just over £60. Only problem I had was the tables are very close together and you can hear everyone elses conversations. I found it difficult to hear what the person I was with was saying alot of the time and we didn't linger over the meal. Thank you for responding to my review 8 months after I had visited. Portions at the time of visiting were small and yes i agree that removing tables would see a decrease in revenue for the business you should make customers aware when booking that they would be seated so closely to other diners.

Great Californian Mexican food! Burritos and tacos are top notch and the nachos are the best I have had in the uk. The home made watermelon and lime drink was very refreshing.great selection of cocktails. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Overall a great dining experience. Me and my partner ate here earlier today and both shared our meals - we had tacos, a burrito and quesadillas. My tacos were quite good but the burrito was quite tasteless. Garlic tacos were good. I don't think the food reflects the price as we paid £50 and for two soft drinks. Within an hour of leaving we have both had upset tummys with diarrhea and feeling sick. I wouldn't go back. Shame as it's a lovely little restaurant.

Went for my daughter's 15th birthday. Had heard friends visit this place with mixed reviews and thought we'd give it a go You feel as though you're sitting in a goldfish bowl but drinks arrived and the Bajarita was amazing Had nachos to start, nice Main course was a REAL let down!! We ordered burrito with meat fillings. Well, the amount of meat as opposed to shredded cabbage and all the cheap stuff was diabolical! The meat wouldn't have fed a cat! Would have complained but didn't want to upset the evening with it being a celebration. Come on Baja, if you charge £12 for a burrito at least put enough meat in it! I wouldn't go again and instead go to West Quay and get a cheaper burrito with a excellent content of meat. Fairly disappointed to be honest.

Amazing food, keep going back for more. Staff are friendly, food is cooked very quickly. Sometimes a struggle to get a table (probably due to popularity) but never an issue or disappointment coming here.

Myself and partner visited with our one year old son. They were friendly & accommodating. The food was absolutely fantastic for all three of us, we will go back and definitely recommend!! Thank you.

We have popped in to see if they have a gluten free option on their menu and lady inside gave me the answer but failed to say she was closing therefore allowed me to sit down this was at 16.01 pm my colleague and I was interested having something to take out as we both work for the Ambulance service and had a full green uniforms on she wasn't friendly at all and said can't you read the sign it says close . We thought this place was stop cooking at 16.15 and shuts at 17.00pm very disappointing to see have no communication after we sat down been told to leave before even closing time

The restaurant was already crowded when I arrived - ten minutes late. I apologised and young man who greeted me seemed unperturbed and directed me to our table. Husband arrived as soon as he had parked the car. Food was delicious and served in a timely manner, even though it was a busy Friday early evening. We had four dishes ( cauliflower, whitebait, chicken wings and guacamole). My husband had tacos next, while I chose a salad. Our neighbours’ meals looked and smelled great too. Some people were enjoying cocktails. We had alcohol-free lager which was fine. My husband sat in a chair, while I sat on the wooden bench. Although there were cushions, they were too lightly stuffed for real comfort. With more comfortable seating, I would have given Baja Mexicali five stars. The decor is simple and quite appealing to say it looks to have been made on a tight budget, and is eco friendly. The unisex loo was clean. ( I notice that some visitors to this shopping centre have complained about inadequate signage in the car park, so take care where you park to avoid an unexpected fine.)

We were not overly impressed with the restaurant especially as there are some good eating places at Whitely. The Nachos starter was fine, I chose the steak taco as a main they were disappointing for the money. The chimmy changer desert was not good did not taste the apple or cinnamon and it seemed under cooked .

This is the best place for a meal out, everything is so fresh & tasty, the service is great and it has a chilled atmosphere.

Lovely little Mexcian right in the middle of Whiteley shopping complex. Great place for lunch, we each had a main and added a few ‘little plates’ to share also. Our meals were lovely and reasonably priced. Would eefinitely return.

Mixed feelings about this place. The meal was fine and nice enough, I went for the Asada (steak) San Francisco Burrito however, I thought the steak was a little chewy. My main takeaway would be that for this burrito (bear in mind it was the most expensive one) and chips, alongside the service charge it cost me £18.45. Personally I don’t think the food was awful but for the price I just can’t say that it’s worth it and that’s just my opinion. Atmosphere was good though and staff were friendly.

Gave us food poisoning, after eating the pork belly bites, San Diego wrap with Beef we then left the restaurant decided to go H&M and had to leave early due to my partner needing to be sick. Once we got home we both felt ill, we then woke up during the night being violently sick. Other than the food poisoning, the service was great and the food was really nice too.

Subject a great place, considering it is so small the ambience, the staff, the food all absolutely fantastic. 💯% recommend

The place itself is quite small but the server found space for us, which was good. The food was ok but the sticky wings weren't good, we left some of those. Could have just been because they were busy. The BBQ ribs were flavoursome and had a good amount of meat on them. The tacos were middle of the road. Not a bad taco, but the sauce is came with wasnt to my taste - quite bland. The steak loaded fried were great. Steak cooked medium and other toppings worked well. For what I got, I would say this is on the pricier side but with helpful staff and some good options, this could be one to try.

Great food, good service - excellent location & lovely atmosphere.

This is one of my favourite restaurants, they have great fresh food here, a nice selection too. The cocktails are good value as they have a deal on most of the time and they are tasty. They made it a special evening for me on my birthday by giving us an additional cocktail. They always make a fuss of us and we always leave full and happy. One point i would make is that it is a touch pricey food wise.

Love this place. As the only indie restaurant in the whole of Whiteley Shopping centre, this places shines bright. Food is always made fresh and you can see the kitchen from the seating area if you’re on the right side. The drinks are made by the wait staff in the small bar area and are always so good, with no scrimping on the alcohol. There are a good amount of drinks on a 2 for £12 deal which is a fair deal. The bill usually ends up being quite expensive but don’t mind paying it for a quality meal. Will be back again soon!

Here for lunch, a main and a side makes a reasonable meal. nice welcome, pleasant prompt service, informal dining, tasty food. Discretionary service charge automatically added to bill at 10%.

I came here for dinner with work colleagues. The food was fresh and full of flavour and the service was excellent.

Food wasn’t bad but small portions and overpriced, £6.50 for 2 tacos which disappeared in 2 mouthfuls, £12 for a burrito and £6.50 for a small slice of cheese cake. Service was good and service charge is automaticity added to your bill.

Fantistic food, it was so good. Cooked perfectly. Staff were awesome. Arrived just as it opened, within 10 mins was full, can see why. Will book ahead for next visit.

First visit, went with my wife at lunchtime. The food is really good. Service with a smile, too. It's just perfect.

I felt that the food has improved recently, following a bit of decline earlier in the year. A bit of a cold environment, as always, but that is what you get when you are surrounded by glass!

Always great service and lovely food

Delicious tacos and burritos. Great place for a quick bite. We ordered loaded nachos, fish tacos and a steak burrito , with verde rice as a side. Everything tasted great, the staff checked in on us several times to make sure we were happy and brought us additional drinks very promptly. It’s a small restaurant but the decor is very cute. I would say the tacos were on the pricier side since you only get two per portion.

Food was fine but evening spoilt by manager who refused to move us from the table right next to the toilet and 12 inches from the occupied table next to us on the grounds they were fully booked. Tempted to just walk out but would have incurred the no show charge and wanted to see if food was as good as reviews indicate. It was virtually empty on arrival at 1845 and still just as empty 40 minutes later as we were getting ready to leave. Won't be going back (unfortunately cannot post the picture in this review to show).

Called in here on the off chance of a table on Tuesday and wasn’t disappointed. They seated us at the high table in the middle of the restaurant and the chairs were very comfortable. Staff were so friendly so much choice on the menu and it was all delicious. The atmosphere was buzzing will 100% go back.

The food was okay for the money and some things felt quite authentic and tasty. I can't help but think the staff need a little more hospitality training, but I guess that comes with experience. Overall, would be nice for a quick bite but definitely not what I was expecting.

Well.. been here at least 6 times and honestly is the best food in Whiteley- not only the shopping Center but I would say the area. Always delicious food and great service and guess what?!? Fair priced too!! If you are in the area - do not hesitate! Sorry no pics as food so good, it just vanished from the plates and only realised we took no pics after 😆

Just had our meal at Baja Mexicali new branch opened in Portsmouth. Food as good as previous experience at Whiteley, same great menu. Staff at new restaurant were great looking after us. Will go again.

I really underestimated this place!. I was intrigued yet undecided, as there are other bigger chains surrounding this small glass building. Bigger chains where I knew I would be able eat for a reasonable price and feel fed!. Which is a must for me when eating out as a family!. I am so glad I chose this independent restaurant, rather than a chain! From the second we walked through the doors the service was outstanding. We were greated by the manager (Luke), who was so friendly and amazing with our children. We were shown to a table, where Luke asked the names of our children and then proceeded to write them on their own table reservations board. Sometimes eating out as a big family is stressful, I honestly felt relief that our kids were being looked after and not being suppressed in an adult environment. The waitress (name has slipped my mind) was just a courteous, polite and approachable. The food was absolutely outstanding. Price, presentation and taste, cannot fault any of it. Portion sizes were not sacrificed for presentation. We tried a lot of their dishes. As there was 7 of us, we ordered 10 dishes plus 3 sides. The kitchen staff did not struggle with our order. All our food came out together, warm and delicious. Our children laughed and engaged with the staff throughout the meal, the staff were tentative and the atmosphere was relaxed. I would 100% recommend this restaurant to all. We also heard that they are opening a new branch over in Portsmouth. I cannot wait to try this place out. I really hope the staffs attitudes and work ethic are reflected in their pay, they deserve it!. On that note, I also loved the fact that on the receipt, it states that all tips go directly to staff and that they are split between all staff on shift including their kitchen staff. Not a lot off businesses do this. The company seems to have some good moral ethics. Staff are fabulous and the little touches just made the experience even more for us. We will be back either at Whiteley or Portsmouth.

Popped in for lunch today for my daughters birthday and we are both vegan! Food was amazing, lots of choice, and most dishes can be made vegan. Prides we’re good, service was great, very cute little restaurant and we will definitely be going back soon 👌🌱

Food is overpriced, and subpar. Ordered mushroom tacos. Tacos were broken, with a strange taste. Mushroom filling was just basic.

Fantastic tasting food, good service, great prices.

Lovely atmosphere, nice chilled our music. I wanted try so much on the menu. We had pork belly bites, padron peppers, sliced corn. Then mains where steak burritos and enchiladas. The food was fresh, hot and the flavours were so complementary. Service was flawless. Will be returning to this fanatic independent restaurant. Puts all restaurants at Whitely to shame!

Booked this lovely looking restaurant over 3 weeks ago, and reconfirmed the reservation on Thursday (2 days before), turned up tonight to no reservation. They have said I should have had a confirmation email - I’ve had nothing, never knew I would get this???? Also explained they require card details for a Friday / Saturday night booking which you input on the email, again not able to do. Nothing they could do so had to walk away. Booked over the phone and call to confirm, and never mentioned an email confirmation or card details needed - think some staff training in taking reservations might be needed. What a let down!

Ordered online, told ready for collection 30 mins later, on arrival told it would be at least another 10 mins because 'suddenly really busy'. Poor show guys.

Went here for a date night with my hubby! Very intimate and cozy setting, very friendly staff who made us feel welcome and told us about the menu. Food was absolutely delicious, left wanting more but not because we were hungry just because it was so tasty!!! Hubby was very impressed which is hard to do because he is the fussiest eater 😅The cocktails were also absolutely scrumptious!!! 100% will be going back ♥️😍
