Brilliant pub in the middle of Dartmoor. Very friendly manager who greeted us on arrival. Superb food and a pleasant/Quiet and friendly atmosphere. Dog friendly too. We stayed in a nearby hotel but the food there wasn't to our liking (bit too posh). We were SO glad we found this lovely place and ate here. The food was homely, delicious and generously portioned. Plenty of board games etc to play also which we enjoyed.

We stopped here in a drive around Dartmoor. It was a cool day with some sunshine, so when we stopped we had carrot and coriander soup. It's the best we've ever tasted. Thank you for the hospitality.

We stayed here for one night after a long walk to Hexworthy. The room was very comfortable and had a nice atmosphere. Our critic is about the food options. There are plenty of options available, but some of them like fish’n chips seems like convenience products. Maybe it would be better to reduce the options to an amount which can be handled with fresh products.

Following an afternoon adventuring around the West Dart, the Forest Inn was a welcome stop firstly to quench the thirst and secondly to fill an empty tummy. Menu has a wide selection of what I consider classic pub grub. Priced well and cooked to order. Very friendly atmosphere and the perfect place to start and finish a walk in the area. Wide selection of BWS on tap and in the fridge. Seating is comfortable and decor of dining room and bar/lounge is exactly as a country pub should be.

I never write reviews as I'm too lazy- this might even be my first but I feel compelled to write one for this place- Fantastic little b and b- turned up tired, muddy, and confused from my hike and they were super welcoming, making sure I had everything I needed to make me comfortable (best nights sleep ever- the bed was so soft!, and the bath was exactly what i needed!) had a wonderful dinner, and an amazing breakfast - they easily accomidated me to make the food vegan (and it wasn't lacking at all!), were kind, chatty, and cared about my every need- can't reccomend this place enough!

We came here for New Year’s Eve and let me tell you it was the pub to be in on the moors for 2024, the hosts were amazing, put on music did a exceptionally good Buffett and just had the best vibe, The poor lady that run the kitchen put on a lovely woodfire but unfortunately because of the weather the wind was blowing the smoke in the pub so had to let the fire go out, but while it was on it was so cosy and had that real Christmas/new year feel, Thank you for such a wonderful night, me and my partner can’t wait to see what 2024 holds for this pub as I feel it’s going to be one hell of a place to be

I dont usually give bad reviews, but we were so disappointed with this visit, the forest used to be a lovely warm country pub with good food, however it seems to have lost its charm..the wood burner was out and the room was freezing, the food was expensive and of poor quality and the toilets were unclean, if the toilets are unhygienic it’s worrying..Other reviews are praising this establishment, so I hope things improve..sadly we are unlikely to return..very sad 😢

The wonderful cheerful, friendly and hard-working Cary brings laughter, joy and enthusiasm to this authentic, laid-back Dartmoor pub, which lies at the end of my lane. Totally relaxed and unpretentious, muddy boots, damp kagouls, dogs and children are all welcomed. The Forest has been an important part of my family's lives for nearly thirty years, a total gift for my children and their friends as teeangers. It is also fantastic for my B&B guests to be able to walk there and back for a nourishing supper after their day out on the moor. Cary couldnt put more into what she does, everywhere is lovingly and cheerfully decorated ready for a packed out Christmas and New Year, and she does a cracking Sunday roast, with vegetarian options. Despite being so busy, she'll be sure to pop out of her kitchen to say a quick 'hello', while Richard behind the bar will talk knowledgeably about chess and antiques, meanwhile spoiling your canine with treats. The Forest Inn is our dog Twiglet's very favourite place! My son says the beer's excellent too!

This pub was perfect. We were in Dartmoor on a tough day scattering our friend’s ashes, we were all trying to work out how to normalise our day and were struggling to raise our spirits, so when we came by this pub we sat outside and ordered a round of pints and a couple of cheesy chips. It was a weird day but suddenly there was a sausage thrust through the window on a pair of tongs in front of my sister. We all cracked up laughing and even during the hardest day of our lives we had the most amazing time laughing because the woman in the kitchen lightened the whole mood by feeding us treats, one by one on a pair of tongs each time. This pub is perfect. I’m afraid I didn’t catch the lady’s name but she was fantastic. A real character who raised the spirits of a bunch of friends who were feeling low. Thank you! We talk about it non stop and hope to come back next year.

Stayed here last night for a wedding we attended nearby. Wish we'd known how glorious the area was - we'd have booked for longer! Paddy didn't mind us checking in late (10pm ish) as we didn't want to leave the wedding and go back. The room was comfy, clean and well maintained. Bathroom was lovely and Netflix worked (sounds bizarre and shouldn't be a priority, I know, but we wanted to wind down before we fell asleep and we've never had Netflix actually work at accommodation before!) The room was stocked well with hot drinks & biscuits (again a weird priority but at 35 weeks pregnant a midnight cuppa and a biscuit is a god send) We slept really well as it was lovely and quiet. We're hoping to return to Dartmoor so we can appreciate the area more and we'd definitely go back to the Forest Inn.

Popped to the Forest Inn for the first time. It is in a remote spot with a lovely drive from either direction. The food was pretty good traditional pub grub, I had a generous well done jacket spud. Well kept pint of Legend on tap for my husband. The building itself is a little tired and it is a shame they're not able to make the most of the views with the outdoor seating at the back. I have never left a review, not once in my life. But as a chef with over 10 years working in and around hospitality I thought this was a good place to start. We had been to the Forest inn many years ago, and enjoyed the food and the long walk available around Dartmoor prior to stopping in to have a hearty lunch, usually we frequented the pub on Boxing Day. 10 years on from those fond memories. The food and the service have declined drastically. I would say that this is a disgrace to the industry. You should be ashamed that this is the food that you serve. I have never been more disappointed. You may be if the elk that the food here is a satisfactory standard. But I can tell you now that the supplies ingredients are worse than that used at McDonald’s, and if cheaper quality. If I were you the best thing that you could do is reach out to Gordan Ramsey and hope to god that he is free to film a Hell’s Kitchen with you. Good luck in the future. Hopefully see on TV with Gordon.

Horrendously run restaurant. It wasn't busy, just 1 other table waiting for food. Even so, a hot drink took 25 MINUTES to arrive. The rim of ketchup bottle was covered in old black ketchup and obviously hadn't been cleaned for AGES. Chips tasted like the oil should have been changed some time ago... Burger was badly burned, but also somehow cold enough to not melt the grated cheese. The bun was buttered, but the butter only reached half way across. (Seriously, how much effort does it take to butter a bun properly??) To top it off, the burger was a single, but listed as a double on the menu. Thanks guys!

This is bright and airy.restaurant, menu different each day, posted on wall, order at counter; quality cooked food served hot; good choice of drinks. Salads interesting and attractive, ‘standard’ menu on tables. The table tops ruined by Covid anti-bacterial treatment have been replaced! Friendly, helpful staff.

Whilst entertaining important business associates I stumbled upon this fine establishment. Nestled in the heart of the town, this spectacular restaurant took us by surprise. The atmospheric lighting, the carefully curated decor and the maitre d (I believe was called Ben) was extremely welcoming. The owner, Oliver, was very friendly and very informative about the origin of the Michelin grade menu and had a charm that was not wasted on my party.
