Country Lanes Garden Centre in West Devon

This is bright and airy.restaurant, menu different each day, posted on wall, order at counter; quality cooked food served hot; good choice of drinks. Salads interesting and attractive, ‘standard’ menu on tables. The table tops ruined by Covid anti-bacterial treatment have been replaced! Friendly, helpful staff.

We visit at least once a week, its a lovely place to have lunch or just coffee and cake. then browse around the garden centre.

Delightful small garden centre with a good range of plants and sundries. Great cafe with delicious food, tasty cakes, lovely coffee and good service. Well worth a visit.

Clean and welcoming with comfortable seating, it was a pleasure to come here for breakfast. Staff were great making sure that we got our order in and we soon had some great food in front of us. Ingredients used are absolutely first rate. The bacon is not too salty, sausages are really meaty and the egg was very fresh. Together with the great service it was an excellent breakfast.

Although the drinks we went for were fine, the table was not. It was sticky and had obviously not been cleaned properly for some time. Neither of us wanted to put our hands on them after the initial touch. We did think of saying something whilst there, but the place was busy and we did not want to cause a fuss. We are not keen to return if that is an example of the standards of cleanliness.

Superb toasted tea cakes (good and spicy), choice of gluten free scones, good coffee ... go here instead of the motorway services almost next door!

Little garden centre with loads of parking. Lovely indoor section with pots and tools and outside a selection of plants etc.

I love the fact that this garden centre uses local growers. The quality of plants is very high and includes some specimens not found in other garden centres. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable. I'm allergic to animals so welcome their policy of not allowing dogs on the premises. Friends of mine who are dog owners don't take their dogs to garden centres, shops etc as they feel it's boring for their pets.

Friendly, independent, a nice cafe and nice toilets.

Called in for a coffee on our way from Cornwall up to Wiltshire for the weekend.

No dogs… in a garden center? In a rural community 🤪 Owners response highlights the reason for my pointing this out. You can have a “policy “ but no need to be rude to people. That’s when a so called policy is in reality a hostility

We only used the cafe, which was really nice and friendly. Good quality food. It looked a lovely garden centre and if we are in the area again we would make a visit.

Stopped here on our way down to Cornwall, what a find!! Had a super breakfast all freshly cooked. The staff were amazing too so friendly. Needless to say we called in on our way home and had another delicious breakfast . Also purchased an ornament and some plants. Thank you Country Lane's.

We found this place by accident three years ago and now choose to stop here for lunch on the way to visit a friend in Redruth. The food is excellent and we only wish the garden centre was nearer home as the plants and garden accessories always look good value.

Asked in the cafe for an iced coffee. I was told in no uncertain terms they didn't do them. Fair enough but it's only a bit of ice in a glass of cold milk with a dash of coffee. Not rocket science. I had eggs on toast with mushrooms,toast very soggy so didn't eat it. Expensive for what it is. Shame

If this isn't a Garden Centre, I have no idea what one is. Very good selection of plants, which contrary to some comments, are well cared for, watered, and for the past few years have served up excellent and bountiful veggies from my garden and greenhouse. Staff are always helpful, and we feel lucky to have this place on our doorstep. Mark and Linda.

Not really a garden centre. The limited selection of plants here were of a very low standard - under-watered and uncared-for. It appeared to be more of a café for the elderly and a shop for knick-knacks.

Overpriced as most garden centres are, the day we went their card machines were having problems, I tried to pay for something and was advised if I gave them my bank card details they would take payment when machine worked!!! Absolutely not!!! No way was I leaving my card details at a till point, absolutely agsibdt GDPR and the bank, police and card people would gave had a field day

If you have a dog, dont bother !!! To be fair, I can't actually say what the place is like as I had a dog. When I asked a member of staff if I could bring a dog in (a cockapoo, nothing viscious), they said no as they had had an incident in the past where 1 dog bit someone. I appreciate the difficulty around allowing dogs into premises, but this is a garden centre, not a shop ! Just because 1 dog misbehaved doesn't mean they are all banned. Just ask the "naughty" one to leave. Consequently, we went elsewhere. We were planning on spending money here and having a coffee, etc, and I doubt that it is going to put them out of business, but missing out on about £100 these days is not to be ignored.

Lots of stuff to look at and not too pricey plus a nice little cafe if you fancy coffee and a cake plus plenty of parking.

This is a super place to visit, not just as a garden centre but also as a very pleasant stop for lunch on our way to our holiday destination.

This is a great independent garden centre. The staff were engaged and knowledgeable as I needed advice on seeds and growing times. The stock is extensive without overdoing it on the rubbish that so many garden centres have. The cafe at the back was also a welcome stop for a slice of cake and a coffee.

Very friendly staff,My chosen lunch of ham,eggs and chips was excellent. I thiught that the chairs were a little hard,but cushions are provided if one needs one

Refreshing to find a garden centre that focuses on gardening. Most other centres have an irrelevant range of products you have to navigate before finding what you need. Country lanes however is all about gardening. Friendly staff too. We will be returning.

Recommended by a friend, Called in for coffee, unfortunately for us not good, both the de cafinated and normal were weak and without flavour. We may try again but will remember to ask for it strong !

My wife and I enjoy going to the restaurant as a treat, the menu has a good variety of food and drink as well as daily specials on offer, all of which are at a competitive price. The standard of the food I have found to be very good. The garden shop has a wide range of products to support the keen gardeners again at competitive prices. Overall a pleasant place to visit supported by friendly and helpful staff.

On our way to Newquay , stopped for a coffee and a scone. Can recommend the cheese scones.

Went for lunch, lady on the till could not have been more helpful. With my elderly parents, her patience was admirable . Food was terrific value for money and served hot and freshly cooked. Certainly recommend Country lanes

We stopped at the cafe here and had a perfect breakfast bap with bacon and egg.

Very well stocked shop. I didn’t venture outside as it was pouring with rain!

Popped in for a quick bite on the way down to Bude, pleasantly surprised at the lovely cafe and helpful staff. Cheese Toastie came with salad and crisps, all beautifully fresh!

Staff courteous and approachable. Table was incredibly sticky. All our dietary requirements fulfilled. Would be great if they had rice milk.

Revisited Country Lanes after a previous visit pre COVID. Why the food we had was very tasty we we're disappointed that breakfast only consisted of bacon and/or eggs. On our previous visit we had a 'full' breakfast, and going on the website it doesn't make it clear that this is not the case.

First visit to nurseries on our way back from Cornwall, cafe was very disappointing level of hygiene was very poor. We were given a disgusting cup dirty on the inside & lipstick on the outside, when ask young member of staff to change it politely she never even apologised let only look at me. We ordered chips & had to wait a very long time! did not eat them as they were Rock hard & tasted like they had been cooked in old oil/ fat. Was told to get my own cutlery (fine) but each fork I picked up was dirty. We were also ignored at till when first ordering while a staff member chose to spend a long time cutting up new cakes rather than serve us. Gave up on food & drinks & rude staff & left everything on table. Staff attitude to customers is very very poor & cleanness & hygiene lacking greatly.

Can't comment on the garden centre as only dropped in for a coffee. The coffee was fine and well priced but the only other part of the place that we visited were the toilets which were a bit underwhelming

Very well stocked with plenty of choice

This is mainly a review of the cafe. We stopped on the way back from Cornwall - plenty of space in the car park and the coronation quiche was absolutely delicious. Can't comment on the garden centre stuff, but there were plenty of good humourous cards.

I would prefer to give no star. There is a bullying culture by a member of staff, the owner knows and chooses to turn a blind eye, appalling place.

We are new to the area and found it very Dog friendly we heard this was a nice place but sadly not Dog friendly such a shame you must loose a lot of custom!

On the edge of Okehampton with ample parking. Good range of plants and gardening accessories as well as nick nacks. Pleasant restaurant, reasonably priced.

An excellent garden centre, we had travelled from far end of Devon to buy furniture as a result of staff taking time to give helpful advice on a previous visit. Staff were incredibly helpful and were able to find all that we needed and additionally helped load 3 large benches and a chair into the car in the heavy rain. Couldn’t have asked for more. We also had coffee and cake and they were excellent. Very happy customers. We will be back!

Not any more. 2022 called in on our way out of Cornwall only to find the cafe greatly reduced. Basically cakes and snacks. It used to be really good. Will check once more maybe in 2023 Great cafe food at great prices. Huge range of cakes including at least one gluten free in a big, well stocked but cosy garden centre. Love it. Cornwall Couple. .

If you want hot Hot Chocolate, lemon drizzle cake to die for and clean disabled toilets,this is for you. Add cheerful,efficient staff and you have it. As I use a wheelchair, it is spacious enough to seat me without too much trouble. Wrap up though as air con is very efficient. A1.

A proper garden centre, rather than a glorified gift shop like some other garden centres. Good selection of tools and equipment, seeds and bulbs. Very friendly helpful service. Good selection on the menu.

Very limited choice of fillings for sandwiches and the like and felt cold in the cafe. Bring a pully!!

Disappointed to see less tables and chairs in cafe area. Food was good and service, apart from a comment. Didn't raise as an issue as was up to then having nice lunch and catch up with friends, and didn't want to spoil our day . Small latte glasses but high price, sorry won't be returning ☹️.

Popped in for hot drinks and a snack, and were sorely disappointed. The tea and the coffee were both tasteless, and there were zero vegan options for food. The tables were also extremely sticky, as evidenced by the fact the gentleman next to us had to peel off his newspaper as he stood up to leave (and there was evidence of print stuck on our table as well). The staff were miserable, seemed very put out that we would even ask if there was anything to eat that didn't have dairy in it, and spent the whole time they weren't serving customers slouched over the counter on their phones. Will give the place a wide berth in future.

Just popped by to get out of the rain. It's quite a small garden centre, and at this time of year (autumn) it didn't seem to have a vast amount of plants for sale. The café is quite large, although the service was quite slow. Having said that the staff were super friendly in the café and our order: cakes and coffee was brought to our table.

A hidden gem! There are many sections to explore including bulbs trees and indoor and outdoor plants , some handcrafted garden furniture (which is also reasonably priced) a wide selection of silk flowers and foliage and cards. Perhaps one of tge greatest reasons to visit is the excellent cafe where there are always delicious meals sandwiches and cakes served with a mellow blend coffee. Conveniently placed near A30 great place fora pit stop.

Didn't stay long, but the garden centre is full to the brim with plants and gifts. I wish I'd had time to explore further

Wonderful staff and wonderful garden centre, great cafe. Cannot thank the owner enough for helping us when we broke down in the car park on our way down to Cornwall. We would highly, highly recommend visiting!

My wife and son were treated unkindly, the orders took far too long to make, poor service, and there was rubbish on the floor, while staff walked past it several times. Staff at garden center were extremely impolite when we asked for a bin to through away rubbish we picked up outside their shop. Not good experience at all.

Visited today for lunch. We all had beautiful fresh tuna and prawn sandwiches served with a crispy salad and crisps, washed down with Luccombe lemonade. The staff are super friendly and nothing is too much trouble. On my way out I purchased a beautiful ornamental grass. On returning home I noticed there wasn't a plant label. So I rang them and a very helpful man found it for me. What a superb service. Would highly recommend this Garden Centre.

This garden centre is very well stocked and has a really great range of products, but wow!!! so expensive. I've seen most of the items they sell much cheaper at other garden centres.

Really great little garden centre. Stopped here instead of nearby services during 5hr drive. Car packed to the brim but we still couldn't resist buying something as they had some really unusual bits and pieces. Nice cafe serving mix of hot and cold food. Reasonably priced food and drinks but cakes seemed a little pricey for their size. They looked delicious though. Lovely staff too. Worth a visit.

Small but perfect. Welcoming and friendly staff. Allergen aware. A lovely choice of cakes, fresh sandwiches from 11am and hot meals between 12 and 2 with daily specials as well as the ubiquitous jacket potatoes and panini. Outside seating available. Wheelchair friendly as flat access. Stop here instead of a service station or Costa!

Went to stay with my son in Devon and found this place. Great choice of plants, plus lots of quirky gift choices. Great variety.

Needed to use the toilets but found only the disabled toilet allowed for visitors with a large queue while usual toilets reserved for staff!
