Tavistock Inn in West Devon

Lovely pub ,very welcoming, the scampi and chips in the basket was stunning the tartar sauce was very tasty ,the waitress was very helpful and friendly, will definitely go back again 😀

Tasty food and good portion (had the burger and chilli con carne). Staff was welcoming and helpful, straight up recommend it!

Much improved 😊 New people have given the inn a good spring clean and improved the place. New kitchen and menu. We only went in for a drink but it’s so much nicer now and good to see a steady flow of customers going in and out again. The staff on duty were friendly and efficient. We like the small touches of books being available and a pack of cards on the tables.

Very reasonably priced food and delicious too! Friendly reception at the bar. Glad we gave it a try!

Really enjoyed the roast dinner. I felt like this was great value for money. The drinks were really reasonably priced and bridges the gap between the really expensive places in Tavistock. Overall a great venue and value for money

We called in looking for somewhere to stay for 1 night. Jenny and her partner were welcoming and gave us a choice of rooms. We chose their king size room which was recently renovated, spotlessly clean, with a comfortable bed and good shower. The rest of the pub was also spotlessly clean. Breakfast was traditional full English, freshly cooked at our convenience. We would stay there again.

Considering the past the new managers have done an amazing job. On arrival the place was abysmal. Everything that the previous tenants could take was taken. The most recent Facebook page for the pub is now "The New Tavistock Inn". Despite some animosity from some locals they are there to make a go of it.

Wow how things have changed. We have been here a few times throughout the year and it WAS a lovely, friendly, and warm place with great locals and atmosphere. Now Keith and Alison have left it is no longer. We arrived and it was dark and cold. There was a mess at one end that nobody really cared about. The guy behind the bar was on his phone and didn't even acknowledge us. There was no locals in there and it had no atmosphere at all. Only one real ale on and to be honest it was awful. Wouldn't go back there again.

Having booked a room for my self and my wife via Booking.com and having phoned the property two weeks before regarding our stay we were not impressed to find the pub/hotel shut on our arrival and being informed it had been shut for 5 days due to a 'major issue'. No comms from Booking.com or the pub/hotel to advise us which left us to scrabble around to find other accomodation. Suggest you double check with the property as Booking.com were not even aware of the situation until we called them. It's still available on their website but is closed for"the foreseeable future" according to the FB page of the pub. Beware!

Went to watch the football. My dog and their dog went zoomies together and it was so sweet. Lovely owner and staff v friendly.

Do not ask for tea or coffee. After two rounds of drinks in as family group of 4 we asked politely for a hot drink only to be lectured on where you could get one in Tavistock-23 place’s apparently. This was after innocently engaging the landlord in discussion on beer choices and his pub Millwall paraphernalia only to receive condescending smart ass comments. We are regular visitors to Tavistock and will be surprised to see this owner still in business next year. Next stop, Wetherspoons. Welcoming, inexpensive and endless tea and coffee.

Spot and sawdust pub but very friendly staff. Just how I like it

Really nice staff but there was a barking dog in the bar that was going on and on. We abandoned out Sunday roasts and left.

My husband and I just had a weekend at the Tavi Inn, and I must say everything was brilliant. The room was spacious and clean, comfy bed, incredibly nice staff and a beautiful home and reshly cooked breakfast 😋

Stayed here for one night, was very happy with our room ,@ a lovely breakfast in the morning would highly recommend a stay here .

friendly staff… & dog.. ;)) ..presume the owner ;)) they didn't serve the food at that time ( 8pm ) but they offered we can buy opposite… at the fish& chips take away shop and back to them, sitting & comfy eat ;)) .. so we actually did it… and in the pub ordered only a beer ;)) cozy, in old style vein inside ;))

Great little pub, welcomed by a log fire. Fabulous food (compliments to the Chef!) good quality beers and attentive service, would definitely visit again.

Untidy, barlady served the end of the barrel knowingly, no offer to change the barrel or a different ale. Never to return.

Great pub in the centre of Tavistock. Lovely Sunday roast, with delicious pudding and custard. We went as a large family group, we were able to book tables and had a corner of the pub to ourselves. Really friendly welcome and service. Throughly recommend, thank you

Stayed Wed and Thursday this week. Excellent stay. Room well appointed. Clean and everything you need in a B & B. Shower was excellent. Pub food was well cooked. The Chilli Con Carne was superb. Host and hostess were most welcoming. Local clients also sociable. Many thanks. Highly recommended and if in that area again. I know where I am stay - The Tavistock Inn. Thank you.

What an amazing pub ..we visited lunchtime today made really welcome our young granddaughter got us playing dominoes while we waited for our delicious lunches...apparently the beer was excellent!!! friendly welcoming staff...Will return next holidays..

Nice pub for a chill, quiet, staff where happy

Small local bar with friendly staff and customers. Small outside seating area.

Good beer, lost much of its old charm, but a nice little pub.

Serves a great pint and now does food deals too. Sky sports too. Has an alleyway outside the pub if you want to drink outside although it is a bit grubby and could do with a sweep of all the fag butts!

The Tavistock Inn has been rejuvenated since the new landlords took over the place last November. The prices have been lowered and they stick to the opening times! The kitchen has had a refit and meals are readily available. Dogs are allowed inside and treats are kept on the bar. I thoroughly recommend the Tavistock Inn for a drink and/or a meal at any time.

Popped in for a drink after a day out and the landlord was lovely and very welcoming. Pub dog Archie was a superstar and the locals very chatty. A good evening was had xx No food at moment (but believe any chefs welcome to apply) We enjoyed f&c over the road with our drinks. Would recommend. Lovely pub and believe they have accomodation.

Only recently reopened after a pretty bizarre previous owner . Nicely decorated. and clutter removed . Lacks atmosphere but will come in time . If this pub is to attract tourists or locals it needs to cater for food as years ago it was packed

Enjoyed a pint in here whilst in Tavistock, nicely out of the way to not become spolit with too many people, brillianty quirky with lots of interest to continually catch the eye. We really love places like this.Fabulous welcome from the staff and Landlord.A must if you are visiting the area.

Just wow, you could spend hours exploring this place. It's so quirky and interesting. The owner was amazingly friendly and as they are currently not serving food was kind enough to let us get some Cornish pasties from a nearby cafe(which were also amazing!) And let us eat them which we sat outside having a drink.

Went here for drinks with the boys, was empty but the vibes were still good. Fair price for drinks and the interior was littt. Recommend highly.

A proper Pub! Doing an excellent job with the Covid regs hasn't dampened the warm welcome and friendly service. The eclectic and comfortable interior and well kept beers could easily keep you there slightly longer than planned!

The kind of place you can just chill in. Nice beer and gin selection. Try the gin tray out. Doesn’t take cash only card/contactless. Bring your own food if you like. Good for a date.

Very dog friendly and homely pub in the centre of Tavistock. Great selection of beers within a very much literary and cosy atmosphere. Books and theatrical pictures are abound with very cosy sofas to enjoy a beer or two in a friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended for a pit stop if you're in the area shopping...

A proper Devon pub, cosy, warm and friendly. Dogs welcome. A wonderful homage to one of my own hero's William Morris. Eccentric and quirky why isn't this pub my local? I would highly recommend a visit.

This is a fantastic little find. The atmosphere is lovely, staff friendly and overall very relaxed. The kids love to play the old bar games like ‘shut the box’ - please don’t change

This is a traditonal and very friendly pub, it has great food and a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The pub staff are very helpful, and if you like gin talk to the landlord Tony he will make you one of 20 odd gins he has, ho and he keeps the best Guinness in town. Try it out you will not be disapointed.

My husband and I spent the night in Tavistock and called into the Tavistock Inn for a drink. What a lovely surprise! Never seen anything quite like it - the epitome of festivity. Tony, the landlord is I think a little eccentric and loves to collect things. The whole pub, apart from being adorned with Christmas decorations, is filled with ... everything ! Great atmosphere and very friendly locals. Highly recommend a visit

Love this pub. Tony, the landlord is very welcoming and the bar staff are lovey. The pub itself is just like walking into your nanna's home with 2 large sofas and a coffee table in front of the fire as well as dinning tables and comfy chairs. There's even books to read once you've finished looking at all the pictures on the walls. The food looks and smells lovely but I haven't eaten there yet. I would definitely recommend this family and dog friendly pub.

What a great night out in Tavistock. Tony is an amazing host (ask him about his trips to South Africa) and BY FAR the best Chenin Blanc in town.....

Relaxing atmosphere, great gins

Beautiful pub with a really nice landlord and a great collection of gin (among other drinks). If for you travelling is about meeting people, that's the place for you.

Visited here on goosyfair day 2019 and what fantastic service provided by the landlord and his staff. He certainly is mine host .

Great tasting food but everything is a bit overpriced. Head to Weatherspoon for a better deal
