Great food, Halloween themed when you walk in. Enjoying a meal with the family it’s just a shame the bar isn’t closed to the dining room with young children the language was blue

Always a good pub to visit. 2nd year in a row working in the area. Atmosphere, food and drinks top notch as usual. Staff are always friendly. Staff and locals always very welcoming. Highly recommend.

Came in for food on Tuesday night it was lovely but the boss was being extremely rude to the staff

Absolute 100% rating for everything. Went for a family 80th birthday party and we were made to feel so welcome by the staff and the locals who were so friendly and engaging with us. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented by the chef. Had a brief chat with him whilst enjoying the Doombar, great guy. The DJ went with the flow and the impromptu karaoke and dancing closed out the evening perfectly. Thankyou so much for a truly great time.

Visited as we were meeting up with a friend before returning home from the area. The portions are always large and home cooked. However, there is not much variation in pub prices which are extremely high cost for the location which is on a busy road with no view.

Booked a table for 6 for a family lunch Main meals were very well priced and voluminous I ordered the ribs which were delicious Family ordered the lamb shank, salmon and gammon The pudding menu offers variety but very expensive at £7.00 Portions are poor as is the price Advice: when people order ribs, you should supply a finger dip bowel and a plastic bib / serviette as they are very messy. Further, tables are sticky and need to be wiped between bookings

Michael, their chef, really serves up delicious and well presented food, adapting the menu to cater for vegetarians, vegans and likely more. Friendly and professional service from all. Made it a pleasant meal out. Customer service really is at the heart of this business.

Fantastic pub,And great service and dog friendly

Came here for dinner with my friend. The food was lovely, clearly homemade I had the chicken burger and the apple strudel which was very comforting. I’ve heard lots of great things about the roast dinner here so I would love to come back to give that a try.

This place has the best food in Hythe. The staff are always friendly and the food always tastes great.

Sadly not a great review. We had booked for 1pm. Server was quick to take orders but we then had a very long wait for food with no updates. We waited 1hr and 10 mins for food in the end and that was only after saying we were going to leave without waiting for the food. As a diabetic I had to start eating glucose tablets to keep my sugar levels up. This would have been not so bad if the food had been outstanding but my surf and turf looked like it was thrown on the plate with no garnish and could barely taste the garlic, the pie was like a child's portion and then the server bought out three meals then stopped serving us to serve another table before bringing out the 4th persons meal to us. When we asked about the delay we were told it was trainee chef. All in all sadly underwhelming.

Very good food served hot and plentiful. We called in for simple lunch on way home from Lee. We all chose starters. There as plnty of food and we all enjoyed our meal. Two different baguettes and one pâté. Pleasant surroundings and nice service

Popped in on a busy Sunday August evening. A few options had sold out on the menu however the staff were super accommodating and when we did get our food, it was delicious. The staff truly are fabulous.

Disappointing food uncooked veg and two types of chips, some ok others burnt. Half size kids burger and dry steak despit asking for medium.

We visited this pub a couple of weeks ago and the food was perfect. However we visited the pub today ordered the same food and was very disappointed with the food. The plowman's lunch was not very appetizing asked for cheese ploughman's and got 3 little pieces of cheese and 6 slices of ham.

It's not their fault. A group of us arrived for an impromptu lunch between 1.45 and 1.55. They stop serving food at 2. It was very quiet; so I was surprised that no effort was made to encourage us to stay for drinks & crisps, as that would have been easy money.

It was busy so a wait, food was fine but nothing special. Staff were really nice and friendly. Two good sized bouncy castles for kids and a nice beer garden though.

I had such an uncomfortable experience I order off the specials surf and turf ask for medium rare steak, the steak itself was overcooked and grisly my boyfriend wanted to send it back I wish I didn’t now, the chef then come out in front the whole restaurant to tell me I obviously wanted a rarer steak as that was a perfect medium rare steak there was no pink in it what so ever but the whole situation made me so uncomfortable that I lost my appetite and just had to leave, I’m not one to do reviews like this but honestly the worse experience I’ve had with restaurant, waitress was fine this was all to do with the chef,

Just stopped for a drink. Great outdoor play area with two bouncy castles and a new swing area. Was very quiet in the play area. Great for the kids for an hour. Quiet for the parents.

Food home made pie nice. Kids chicken nuggets x2 not great. Mixed grill disgusting completely raw, asked for it to be cooked well done and couldn’t even bite it. Took home for my dog who took ages to chew the rubber. Ladies toilets didn’t flush. Gents disgusting. Asked for 2 highchairs. Not clean and one with table attached the other no table. 1/2 larger 1 cup of tea and 2 kids fruit juice £70. Disgusting wouldn’t go there again even for kids to use bouncy castle

Excellent menu for choice and something different very good all round experience

I've been eating here several times with my family since my husband passed away last year. Always had lovely food and service. The other weekend visited with my 92yr old mum. Put in the window table. Table was sticky, windowsill was covered in dead flies. Waited an hour for our roast dinner. Next table to us waited 1hr and 15 minutes. Not once were we offered apologies or explanation or told at time of ordering that there was an issue in the kitchen with waiting times. They've been busier than they were that day with no issue. She did apologise at time of serving our meal, could have offered discount or free drink,but nothing. I'm very sad as I don't go out much and it's very convenient. I didn't complain at the time as couldn't, wouldn't make the event worse and upsetting for my mum.

I want to thank the staff so much for being accommodating in regards to my meal. They offered to take it and warm up later when hungry again ( pregnancy really messes up with eating!) The pub and gardens are nice, and I feel safe parked up for the night in my camper.

Great pub, the meal was very good. Hearty and very good. The service at the top. I really recommend it. Dog friendly too.

Very disappointing! 4 of us (2 couples) went for lunch at the end of May. 3 of us had the Massaman Curry, and 1 had lamb shank. The curry was bland and very dry, and the portion (for £18!) was very small. We asked for Mango chutney, which was delivered when we had almost finished! (The pub wasn’t particularly busy). With one drink each, and 4 sweets, the bill came to £120. Not our best experience, and plenty more local pubs are vastly superior! (Seashells & Ebenezers to name just two).

Visited here for the first time this evening, after recently moving to the area - have to say, one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Proper home cooked style food, quality and quantity was great, worth every penny. Kids portions were a great size. Food was thoroughly enjoyed! Cannot wait to come back again.

Main course was okay but the puddings gave a shock to my heart, first off it took 30 minutes for the deserts to come out and when they did my heart dropped. The cream had marble sized lumps in it and was sour, I was totally disgusted and almost threw up. would recommend 10/10 (dog called Monty really improved my overall experience)

Mother’s Day lunch was absolutely lovely. It’s been a very long time since I had crispy roast potatoes in a restaurant. The roast was perfect and piping hot. Topped off with a complimentary glass of Prosecco for all the mum’s. Lovely atmosphere and great service from lovely staff. Most definitely booking again!

Unfortunately, we had a really bad experience today. Although the soup we ordered was good, the rest of our food was not as expected. The kids' menu arrived with burnt chicken, and the cheeseburger did not come with peas or sweetcorn. Furthermore, the curry on the menu did not specify if there is meat in it or not, and the waiter did not ask about our allergens. We have never received mango chutney as well. When complained, the staff was not apologetic at all and only offered some refund. We were not happy about it but staff was not interested in our feeling at all. Do not recommend this place

Excellent food and good service. Reasonable price

We stopped for lunch on the off chance after a visit to Lepe beach. The inside has a friendly and traditional pub / restaurant vibe, the team were very welcoming. We sat outside on a surprisingly warm February day, the kids were well entertained in the play area and enjoyed looking at the horses in the field next door. We were surprised to find such an extensive menu of pub classics and specials - and everything we ordered (chicken burger, ribs, steak, goats cheese tart, kids burgers) were all delicious, well cooked and good quality. It felt like we’d found a hidden gem, will definitely return when next in the area.

Lovely pub / restaurant. Free parking. Big garden with enclosed play area. Big portions of food, also an option of taking the food you haven't managed to eat home with you in a cardboard container. Reasonably priced. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. 10/10. We had 2 dinners of the rack of ribs, and it is massive and tastes fantastic! Also, you would not be disappointed with the other options. The lamb shank, liver & bacon, mix grill, and chicken burger was amazing. The chef also made substitutions for the picky eaters. It is nice to support a local pub / restaurant. We have eaten here many times and we will keep coming back.

Stayed at The Forest Home pub in my camper van on the 27.12.23 in there car park for one night whilst in the area The staff were friendly and polite. The food and Beer was really good I had steak pie chips and peas the steak pie just melted in the mouth with plenty of steak and the John Smiths was great as well also has large outdoor seating area one side paved other side grass also a children’s play area would happily use again when in the area

Delicious main meals, served hot and with a smile. Didn't much like the bread and butter pudding, not the traditional recipe.

This is local to us, despite a couple of not good meals some time ago, thought would try to see if improved. Sadly not. £16 for dried up ham an overcooked egg and a few chips. Run out of the meal other half requested though not busy. Nice chap serving though

Great pub, free overnight stay in car park in motorhome. Food is good friendly helpful staff, Had a quiz night when we were there. Very pleasant evening.

Visted for a light lunch three times over a monthly period . Have to say the most impressive pub I've been to this year . Warm atmosphere, you feel it as soon as you walk through the door . The staff are friendly and efficient. Spacious bar with lovely solid oak topped tables , Would really recommend the side salad, a creation containing pickles of cauliflower , gherkins, and onions hidden among the tonatos and fresh green leaves . The main dishes too look plentiful. All in all, a visit to the Forest Home is well worth a visit .

Really love this little pub. On the doorstep of the new forest with an ample size garden too. Why this is probably my favourite local pub though is the food. Reasonably priced in the area and the quality I'd always top notch. I've not visited for a while because I've not been well all summer but our visit the other day didn't disappoint. The portion size is generous too. If you get chance try the brie starter or the cheeseboard. Just outstanding. The brie is truly beautiful I wish I'd asked where they source it from. Highly recommend a visit.

We went for my son’s birthday. 100% full marks to Chef Michael on his presentation and his food was exceptional. We had a tomahawk steak my goodness me it was amazing definitely recommend it but more than anything. It was the service that we received chef. Michael came out and sauce and I can only give them 100% for the service food and the atmosphere thank you so much for making my son’s birthday so special enjoyed by all

We had a really wonderful evening. Our food was excellent. The homemade steak and Guineas pie was incredibly generous and delicious, and the tomahawk steak cooked to perfection. Genuine high quality food at a very reasonable price for what you are served, we will most definitely be going back.

I visit today with a very elderly lady who was on her first outing after being seriously ill in hospital and having to move into a care home, the first time she had been out in over 2 months, the kitchen had closed which would have resulted in me having to get her back into the car and out again somewhere else (no mean feat) had the chef Ryan? And the chap behind the bar (sorry didn’t get his name) not stepped up and offered to still make us some baguettes for lunch, words can’t describe how this act of kindness impacted on our day, I did tell them before I left but I thought it nice to inform the management too via this platform ~ thank you again

Had a meal here. Both of us took the Cod n chips with garden peas which was good value and very tasty, however we went for the Crème Brûlée, nice enough but very over priced at £7 each! Apart from that it’s a nice English country pub which has live bands once a week.

Just had a Saturday evening meal for 2 The food was fantastic, and the staff were awesome. Very attentive, and polite, regularly checking if everything was ok or if we wanted anything else. Had a fabulous starter and main course but no room left for the deserts that looked equally good! Looking forward to coming back again in the near future to try them! Thankyou

The pub itself is nice but when your greeted buy customers telling you not to have food its rubbish. Does leave you feeling sceptical however we did have a roast and it was average at best and over priced for what it was so I'm sure it a place for a drink but would not recommend the food honestly

Great food. Was able to reserve a table at short notice (4 hours). Very well priced. Would return for another meal if in the area again.

We only ordered 2 lattes as we stopped half way round our afternoon dog walk. We was pleasantly surprised to find out it was only £5.00 for 2 lattes, which was cheap. We will try the food next time. Lovely little place.

We turned up as a family of 10. Serving staff ok, Waited over 1 hour for food and had to ask multiple times. The food was not served as advertised and could not be rectified. A simple we don’t have that choose please pick something else would have been better then us waiting for some hashed up meal with things they had left and bits missing or different. 3/10 eat there food. Priced are sky high for quality served its disappointing. Drinks and aesthetic of the pud were fine but the overall service and food would be a disappointment for even a tasteless,deaf, blind man.

What a lovely homely and friendly place to visit for food and drink. I can't wait to go again soon.

First thoughts on arriving, we noticed how beautiful it looked, with Christmas decorations up, then we were greeted by a sour faced owner, who we now know as Aileen. Appalling service but food was ok, despite one meal needing to be swapped out as it contained nuts and this person has a nut allergy. It was taken back but the owner "had googled" and pine nuts are not classed as lethal to someone with a nut allergy. Despite her Google led reassurance, we opted for an alternative considering the person had a greater knowledge of what they were allergic to. There was then an issue with removing the dish containing nuts from the bill. The place has great potential but was let down by mediocre food and poor management.

As you would very busy more attention being paid to large festive parties, casual diners pushed hard to order food. The food was well cooked but won't be rushing back any day soon

They allow motorhomes to stay over night which is a bonus for us motorhome owners. Overal a really nice feel to the place.
