What a lovely little gem of a gastropub. I visited some friends in Stanton in Peak with my little boy today and we met here. What a great pub. Friendly service, lovely food and really good beer. The place has a really nice cosy atmosphere and we very much enjoyed our visit. I had the 'Cornish' style pasty with lashings of gravy, made just down the road, and my little fella had a mega fish finger sandwich. I also noticed plenty of veggie and meat substitution dishes which would suit many. Thanks once again for your hospitality, hope we can come again some time.

Lovely food, warm atmosphere, friendly staff. I can’t recommend this pub enough, went with a friend who had heard it served vegan food, it was new to me. Lovely home cooked food (I had a homemade homily pie, which was delish, my friend had the largest bowl of soup I’ve ever seen, also delish). The menu has a huge range of veggie and vegan options. Food was quickly prepared, very tasty and the tea came with cute china cups and silly tea-cosies all adding to the fun. The space is lovely, a very traditional old Derbyshire pub, with open fire. Our muddy boots were welcome (as are dogs) and a warm by the fire was appreciated. Only after we’d sat digesting our food and chatting for ages, and only after we’d asked when they closed did the landlord mention they were supposed to shut 45mins earlier but had patiently waited for us to finish. Treat yourself to a visit.

Authentic British country pub with excellent food and real ales. The menu is mostly plant based with some vegetarian and a few meat dishes. Nine of us went and all enjoyed the food, even though half the group were not vegetarian or vegan. The staff were friendly, atmosphere lovely and it's dog friendly. It's surrounded by lots of nice walking tracks too so perfect for a lunch and walk.

As a once a year visitors our custom won't be missed but I believe in a honest review whether good, bad or indifferent.. Unfortunately I have to leave a bad review in the hope the publican takes note. This is our annual visit on the way to paying our Christmas wishes to those family members who are no longer with us and reside in local cemeteries. We have been coming to the Flying Childers for the last ten years as a tradiition on our visits to Derbyshire. We arrived only 45 minutes after opening time to order drinks and food. We chose our fayre and went to order. From our two person choices, no mulled wine (it's Christmas!!) no BBQ burger, no sour dough bread and no skinny chips..We made alternative choices as one would. When are coffee arrived it wasn't hot only just warm but we didn't complain. Our meals arrived and when my partner cut her chick pea pastie in half it was still frozen in the middle. I took this meal back to the bar area for a replacement. We couldn't believe that the same cut in half pastie arrived back, apparently warmed up in a microwave and replaced on the same plate as the rest of the half eaten meal. And the salad looked like it had been scraped off the plate and same salad replaced. I would have expected a clean plate a completely fresh pastie and a replacement accompanied meal! Alas we won't be returning again

We're all vegan and often struggle to find places where there is a good range of options and we enjoy eating out. Definitely no problems here! Super lunch menu with soups, toasties, burgers and sandwiches, all with vegan options. The food arrived swiftly (given it being a busy Sunday) and was all obviously fresh, homemade and nicely presented. Covid-19 precautions were in place and the prices really reasonable. This tiny two room pub up on the edge of Stanton Moor is a gem. Cosy village atmosphere, friendly people and tasty homemade lunch items. I'm vegetarian and usually struggle to find anything for me the average pub fayre menu. Not so here. A tasty sweetcorn and chickpea burger with sweet chilli sauce really hit the spot, washed down with a refreshing draught cider. There are lots of nice walks round this part of the Peak District, so why not park up by Stanton Moor and walk down into the village (Stanton in Peak) for a refreshment stop at this great little inn.

A splendid Sunday spent in the warmth of the Flying Childers Inn, this pub is everything about a small village, beautiful and quaint just like Stanton in the peak, inside your welcomed by the lovely Richard and Sophie, who have great knowledge on their gins, they have so many on offer for a small village pub. For those who like beer - that is there a plenty with many on tap including Thornbridge ales as well as Bass, Guinness and Stella. A lovely warm fire will wait for you in the colder months and make it feel all cosy and so snug you’ll never want to leave along with some characters from the village and their friendly dogs which add to the charm. This has always been one of my favourite Peak pubs and we brought friends here following a walk last month. Previously we have enjoyed incredible game casserole, the best chicken soup I have ever eaten, home-made ice-cream and other unexpected delights. This time we got very ordinary sandwiches with no side salad, a tiny baked potato served with toast (!), and a very average vegan burger. In fact the menu seems to have become mostly vegan, which is fine if you happen to be vegan or its done really well, which this isn't. We had beer which was good, and fresh orange juice which turned out to be cordial (they replaced it). Also, the dog-friendly reputation means that the pub is full of dogs wandering around. The dog owner at the table next to ours (inches away) told us that their dog wouldn't bite so long as we didn't touch it, so we moved to the other room where there was one dog that kept barking and three labradors roaming about - the room is only 14x12 feet in size so you can imagine how far from relaxing this was, particularly as one labrador's owners were laughing about how flatulent their dog is! Also, the strong smell of dog, flatulent or not, overwhelms the nice old pub smell of beer and log fires. Just disappointing really.

My husband and I had lunch with my in-laws in the main room of this village pub on our most recent visit home to Derbyshire from Canada, and I expected it to be much like many, many others we've frequented in the area over the years. But the Flying Childers is something special. We sat at a table near the bar and chatted with the owner Richard - he and his wife Sophie have kept all of the original old-fashioned charm while adding some modern touches here and there (like a menu full of vegetarian and vegan options), and it all just works, perfectly. Really good home-cooked food (I highly recommend the sweet potato burger), warm and friendly service, a cozy, traditional atmosphere, but also something indefinable, that elevates it to the quintessential British pub experience. This is now our favourite pub, and will be top of the list for our next visit.

First impressions are great, the barman/owner was extremely accomodating with us and saw to us straight away. There was a lovely warm fire on the go and it was very cosy inside.I adore my old pubs with old fashioned decor, so this is perfect. We ordered a pint and ordered some grub. The menu was my sort of menu, no al-la-carte rubbish nor an array of mixed up choices you find in other established public Houses.Plain and simple, choice of soup, homemade, choice of hot and cold sarnies and even the local pudding. Enough to tie us on till tea time but not enough to ruin it.I had a lovely hot ham and cheese paninni, followed by a bakewell pudding and cream. Absolutely gorgeous and not overpowering or sat in my stomach like a house brick. My son and partner had two courses also, sandwich with a pudding, with drinks, cost us £25. There eventually was a steady flow of people, all having snacks and all enjoying the Christmas break. There is a nice selection of ales, so there would be something for everyone. If you like al-la-carte fancy food, leather sofas and music to shred your ear drums, keep away.If you love, old country laid back pub, good food, but not overpowering, friendly and welcoming people then this is your place. Will Deffo be visiting again.

We had originally set off in the mist from outside The Flying Childers and after a long circular walk taking in the old Lead Mining Village of Winster we arrived back at the Flying Childers inn. As we approached the Inn we were welcomed by a dozen or more folk siting outside in the warm November sunshine . We had been walking for 4 hours and we entered the Inn passed the small items of bread and jams for sale and ordered our beer and Pork Pies. The Flying Childers is most definitely a proper country pub steeped in tradition. It may be 2015 but it could well have been 1955. The beer was excellent and the pork pie delicious. There was a Halloween theme but it was such an atmosphere with several families and their children that for a moment I imagined it to be Christmas time although one look through the window incidentally set in rather thick walls reminded me that Mother Nature had thrown in a day never to be forgotten.

We visited the Peaks for New Year and went to The Flying Childers pub on two occasions. There was a good selection of beers and whiskey served up by friendly and welcoming bar staff. On New Year's Eve there was free food and the local people were friendly. We also sampled the home made soup at lunch time, which was absolutely delicious and perfect following a cold and rainy walk. This pub is highly recommended.

We came here for a few drinks on Saturday evening with friends and had a lovely time. There are two rooms, both with traditional pub decor. It was a quite place to chat and catch up with friends. There was a selection of good quality real ales and bar snacks. The pub has won numerous awards from CAMRA over the years and it is easy to see why.The locals were very friendly and accommodating. We are looking forward to returning again in the near future and trying the food.

Cannot comment on the food as we only had a drink however what we saw certainly looked tasty. Friendly people with a nice selection of real ales (Camra 2012 pub of the year) Really comfortable beer garden with plenty of shade if you want it. You can also pick up homemade jams and chutneys in here. Will be back

Whilst I cannot fault the quality of the food, the lack of toilet facilities causes me a major problem. Previously when we have visited here we were able to use the toilets belonging to the pub next door. Having mobility problems and on medication , I politely asked if it would be possible to use the staff WC. This was refused and I was told to use the public toilets which were a considerable distance away. It took me a very painful 25 minute walk to go there and back.I am 85 years old, leaning heavily on a walking stick . I feel very disappointed as i have visited this fish shop many times in the past.

Really lovely food, you wouldn't know it from the outside/inside - it's like any other pub but the food was really good. Had the best dessert - rice pudding with apple and nuts - to die for.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was probably the best I've had, the meat melted in your mouth and the veg was brilliant with meaty gravy

Arrived around 10:45 am on 10/11/24 only to be informed that there was no hot food being served until 11:15 due to a take away order. Others in front of us left and we reluctantly ordered two coffees, a flapjack and a Pork Pie instead of the full cooked breakfasts we’d hoped for. We were charged twice for the Pork Pie, which we pointed out and were subsequently refunded for. We sat at a table that had the previous occupants breakfast plate on it (which was never cleared, considering the waiting on staff weren’t serving any food at the time) and waited for our coffee which did not arrive. We fetched it ourselves from the counter, at which point around 11:05, they started taking breakfast orders again. The place seemed poorly managed and why you’d turn away valued customers for a take away order is beyond me.
