The Flowing Well in Vale of White Horse

We visited for my son’s birthday there was 7 of us we absolutely loved the steak platter it was amazing and you get so much! My son had a chicken burger which he said was delicious. I would 100% recommend this place to eat it’s our second visit in 3 weeks and we will certainly be back again soon. The staff are lovely and very welcoming.

Lovely food,reasonably priced,great service,lovely old pub in a beautiful village.

All I can say is this was a lovely experience in a proper traditional pub. We had a few hiccups with some of our family being delayed on arriving but the staff were more than accommodating & helpful. Food was excellent & we will happily go back again.

Visited on a Friday night after recommendation from a friend , received a warm welcome from staff and version to our table , was a little bit chilly as it’s N old building but there were lots of heaters about , the lady who served us also let us move to a different table with no issues . We went for the steak Bavette on my friends recommendation which we could have for two people , I noticed there were also larger groups having it to cater for their group size . Wow we cleared the plate was absolutely delicious . Great experience all round from food , staff , price only word would be wrap up warm if going in winter

The Flowing Well is a favourite of ours. The food is always good, the staff are wonderful and it has a lovely atmosphere.

Great food and service and recommend steak platter the added cabbage and bacon is a nice added extra hope that stays on the menu

Booking was easy. We had to postpone by 15 mins as running late. Very accommodating. Food arrived quickly and was very nice. Staff polite and helpful. Will go again. Well done all.

Food was good, generous portions but took a long time to arrive! Service generally was slow which was surprising as pub was not very busy and we were seated close to the coffee machine, which was very noisy. All in all, okay but not outstanding.

This is the 2nd time we have been here and the food and service was exceptional. The food was hot and even though it was a Sunday and quite busy we did not wait ages for our food. Will certainly go there again

Great gastro style food pub. Food was very tasty. Great quality and lovely feel inside. Only thing I would say were portion sizes were not massive but will definitely be back as the quality out weighs that. Lovely find !

Lunch! We went for a late lunch having booed quickly. Wonderful staff and service. Work so hard. Lots of choice and more so lots of choice for Coeliac’s - All food and drinks were great. Easy atmosphere and warm having just been in the cold for 3 hours.

We had a pleasant meal at The Flowing Well, which was beautifully set and the perfect location to meet with a friend.

The menu wasn't that flexible for lunch options. However excellent service to accommodate an allergy from the chef and staff. Large open space, plenty of parking, quiet and good ambience.

Over all very good , but the cherry pavlova was just to sweet. No real flavour , just sugar . Main course of Roast Beef was very nice . Staff very friendly. Overall very good , but they need to look at the Pavlova.

One of our favourite local places for great food and drink! Always have some good options on the menu and plenty for VE,GF,DF etc... As it was the 2 of us on a Saturday evening we had a lovely table by the window, I had the beef feather blade and it was exceptional!

I asked twice for my fathers veg on his Sunday roast to be cooked thorough and they were not so he was unable to eat them as they were to hard as he has dentures.For the price you pay for a roast I don’t think one carrot, one parsnip and abit of cabbage is sufficient! We were seated between two big parties so the noise level was extreame so we was unable to have a conversation at normal level.I do think they could’ve seated us more appropriately.

Amazing food as always. Only complaint is I love my pigs in blankets so I just want more meat ❤️❤️❤️❤️ But you can’t have it all

Upon arrival we went to the service desk in the main restaurant as opposed to the bar because it was rather busy. A young dark haired girl approached us and we stated that we had a table booked for 4 people at 5pm under the name of Sam. She then proceeded to find our booking and replied with "Samantha?" "Yes" we replied, she then said as she grabbed 4 menus "it helps if you get the right name, we are very busy!" Taken back slightly we just followed her to the table and she seated us and left. My husband and myself couldn't quite believe she had just been so rude. My husband said had we not been there on a promise for our eldest daughters 14th birthday he would have left immediately. The irony being, our daughter absolutely loves your steak platter which was the main reason for going only to find out it isn't served on a Sunday. We understood the restaurant was busy for a Sunday evening but manners cost nothing and the waitress was extremely rude. We saw a couple of other staff throughout the 2 hours we were there who were polite and helpful, it's just a huge shame we were welcomed by such poor customer service on arrival which in all honesty tarnished the entire evening. Sad to say if we can find a steak platter of equivalent standard we probably won't be returning. Otherwise a lovely pub that we've enjoyed many of meals at over the years but this has really put us off.

Located in a lovely village. Unfortunately our food took over an hour to be served with no updates or apologies. The fact we were sat outside due to no space inside, we thought was a good sign. However, it just left us frozen after a very long wait. Mediocre food. Won’t be driving out to visit again.

Met up with a couple of friends. Food tasty and temperature hot. Staff welcoming, and not hassled to leave once our meal finished

Great service, steak a little smaller than was expecting. Lovely food non the less. Would recommend.

We love the flowing well. The quality of the food is good and there is a great selection for smaller appetites, vegetarians and pub classics. My dad ordered fishcakes - the one he was given was a great quality and excellently presented on the plate, but very steep at £18! I do find that the prices can vary from reasonable to overpriced a bit at the Flowing Well so we avoid Tapas in particular. We now park the Flowing Well as a special treat, or if someone else is paying because of this - but always enjoy going there when we do.

Our Daughter and Son in Law treated us to a meal at the Flowing Well last Saturday [14th Sept]. we had never been before and were so impressed. Our table was booked for 17.30 so the restaurant was not too busy. We loved the rustic decor which created a warm atmosphere. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We all had starters mains and desserts but the star of the meal was The Sharing Steak Platter [which we have never had before]. It was advertised for between 3-4 people to share. there was so much food we struggled to eat it all. Deliciously cooked medium rare steak on top of a huge portion of chips and to the side a well dressed salad and onion rings. We will be definitely be returning. We could not fault a thing and will recommend to all our family and friends.

Disappointed as last time we went it was excellent. Went for lunch, only 2 sandwiches to choose from, tuna melt or chorizo and cheese melt. When they arrived they were in a small brioche bun, which to me is not a sandwich. I assumed wrongly that nice bread would be served instead of long shelf life brioche!

Easy to book on line. Everyone we met that worked here seemed very friendly. Lovely, well cooked meal. It was busy for a Monday evening and got quite noisy but apart from that everything went brilliantly.

Very nice meal. Didn’t know the pub or area but the location worked for a friends meet up. Solid meal, not remarkable, but overall good- and excellent friendly service.

First time visit to The Flowing Well and we were not disappointed. Lovely country pub with great outside seating area. Menu was a bit limited but it helped make mind up easier. Food and service was very good! Highly recommended.

We visited The Flowing Well for lunch, having not visited for many years. We sat outside on the deck, which is a lovely spot although looking a bit tired, with lots of flaking paint and rotten wood on display. We ordered our drinks and picked up some menus. The staff were pleasant and helpful and there is even a separate menu for dogs, which was a surprise bonus. The food arrived in good time and was very nice indeed. We shared the assorted breads with an oil dip to start, then my partner had fish and chips, which was excellent and I had the salmon fish cake, which was very tasty. Our dog enjoyed his treats too. I haven’t given 5 stars due to the shabby appearance of the deck area, but we couldn’t fault either the service or the food and would definitely visit again.

We dined here today for Sunday lunch having never been before. The pub is dog friendly in the bar and garden areas. We were pleased to see they offer roast dinners and meals for dogs too! We ordered 3x roast beef and a dinner for our dog. The food came out quite quickly and was delicious. We then ordered a blondie and a crumble for dessert, both really nice too. We will definitely be returning.

We can’t lie we’ve been back more often than we should. Food has never disappointed slowly working through the menu, but you can’t go wrong with the famous steak platter or a classic bacon cheese burger. Staff are fantastic and friendly and personable. We’d move to the village just for the pub.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. One of the group needed advice on the beers and the advice given was helpful and accurate. The food was excellent and came very quickly. It was a very hot day but the dining room was cool and comfortable.

Lovely folk behind the bar. We wanted to eat outside and it wasn’t a problem at all. Lovely food and so peaceful. Really enjoyed it and will be back! Thank you for having us

Great pub with super food, friendly staff and lovely garden for a summer's evening.

Very disappointing. This used to be a great pub with a decent menu. We had Classic Burgers, but they tasted and smelt very odd, not a patch on how they used to be. There were 6 empty tables with reserved signs, but the waitress said we (and others who asked) couldn't sit there even though they were empty for over an hour. We wont be returning in a hurry.

I booked a table for 2 for Sunday 7 July at 6.30pm, the earliest slot in the evening available. I booked to get the all day Sunday roast. When I arrived I was handed menu cards with the roasts scrubbed out but was not told the roasts were no longer available. There was very little else of interest on the menu so decided to order 2 standard burgers. I was told there was only one left! There was nothing else of interest on the menu so we had to leave ( by then 7pm) and try to find food somewhere else! A very poor experience.

While I generally appreciate the ambiance and friendly service at your establishment, there were a few aspects of my visit that I found disappointing. Firstly, the kids’ menu offered very limited options. As a parent, it is important to me that there are a variety of choices available to accommodate the diverse preferences of children. Secondly, I noticed that the main menu was also quite restricted. While the quality of the dishes we ordered was satisfactory, the limited selection made it difficult for us to find meals that suited everyone’s tastes. Lastly, I attempted to use a Green King voucher, which I have used at several other establishments without issue. I was surprised and disappointed to learn that your restaurant does not accept these vouchers. It would be beneficial if this information were clearly communicated on your website or during the booking process to avoid any inconvenience for your customers.

It was a Tuesday night , the staff were young and nice but we were not asked if we wanted desserts and when we asked for coffees we were told we can’t as they were cleaning the machine! It was 9.20!, maybe before doing that they should ask guests !

Good food brought to the table quickly. There was no problem with two youngsters sharing things and extra plates/cutlery were brought with a smile. I recommend the Flowing Well as a family friendly place to eat.

Super venue, super food and super service. What more could you wish for? Thoroughly recommended if you like a cracking, good country pub offering a lovely, relaxed atmosphere with a quality choice of food and drink.

We enjoyed our visit and will return again. Hopefully the sun will come and we can sit outside in the beer garden.

The Flowing Well was excellent in all respects. My only negative was that we noticed a person outside, feeding their dog with a fork, and then letting it lick the plates. I was shocked to see the restaurant fork and plate used for a dog. I don't personally like dog friendly venues, and I'm glad that dogs are not allowed inside. But hygiene is important and customers may need to be told that using items in this way is unacceptable.

there was a birthday party booked..very noisy..we did move tables but not much difference. the food was really good,staff good,service a bit slow..they were busy.

My husband and I enjoyed a very rare child free evening here on Saturday. The lady that served us (didn’t get her name) was fab. It was fairly busy, and it seemed there were few staff, but those we encountered were all friendly. Steak platter was fantastic, though way too much food for us, the steak was great quality and cooked perfectly. (The fries were a little over done, but as there were so many, we weren’t too fussed). We can’t wait to return with the kids for a family meal.

Lovely venue very cosy atmosphere, menu could have more options typical pub menu as you get in most places. Good selection of starters Main dinners Fish was lovely and flakey, chicken Kiev from the specials menu was very nice too but could only order 1 as they ran out at 7/8pm. Puddings were limited as again ran out around 8pm so only had a choice of 2 out of 5 Overall very good place to dine.

Had lunch there on a Friday. Staff very helpful and happy. The menu is sufficient, not too much and not to little either. A good choice of dishes which I would say are not your standard fare. We had the mackerel salad with pickled asparagus. It was delicious.

Outdoor seating (By choice as it was a beautiful day) Nice, fresh food. Recommend the fish&chips. Reasonable price and great location.

After a dog walk we stopped in The Flowing Well for refreshments and light bites. The food was great, with decent portions and the service attentive. Great atmosphere too.

Great find, we had a really good rack of ribs with great chips and Asian slaw really recommend them, can’t wait to try the whole menu now! The sharing steak platter arrived at the table next to us and it looked seriously good, as did the fish and chips at the table behind …….

Sunday Lunch was amazing - great food, great service and a welcoming atmosphere

Fabulous food. Incredibly slow service. It was not busy in the pub yet we waited almost a hour for our food. Very little interaction from the staff. When we asked for ketchup we were sighed at and then the server returned and put it on the table without a word. Such a shame as the food was lovely. Overall the lack of service and wait time spoilt it and we wouldn't be in a hurry to return.

Always a lovely pub to go to delicious food and the pie and the puddings were the best! Only draw back was the wine was a bit expensive!

The staff were very friendly and food was amazing yes a bit more pricey than some places but so worth it so take the plunge and book a table you won’t be disappointed

Spacious car park, great venue, staff very friendly. A good selection of food and drink available.

Booked for 6.30, midweek, so early and therefore dining room was empty. The ladies were attentive and smiling, and efficient. Food took maybe 20-25 mins to arrive. My steak was delicious, and a good sized portion. Partner said her Game Pie was very nice, though resembled a shepherd's pie rather than one with a pie crust. We both enjoyed our meals. We skipped dessert as I'm diabetic, and all options didn't really work. Not their fault, though maybe they could consider a cheese board. No matter. 4 more couples had arrived by the time we finished our meals, so there was a gentle buzz going on when we left. All in all, very satisfied, and will definitely return.

Another fabulous meal at The Flowing Well! This is my third visit, and each time is at least as fabulous as the last. This was my first visit on a Sunday and the roast was sublime. The staff are fabulous, the food and surroundings are always perfect. This is how you do it!!! Can't recommend them highly enough, I wish there were more Sundays in a week!
