The Florence, Herne Hill in Lambeth

It was all alright. Nothing amazing. Potatoes and chicken were a bit dry, staff were a bit few in number to serve quickly. The food was all eaten, but for £20 mains, £7-8 dessert, needs to be better. Staff were all very nice, wine was delicious and the ambience was good.

One Male member of staff rude while serving! Female membes of staff fantastic but could not believe how rude the male member of staff was!

The quality of the food was very poor. We ordered two roast sunday lunch (pork) and two kids menu’. The Yorkshire pudding and the vegetables were not fresh (likely cooked the day before and warmed in the microwave). The roast was poor quality and pre-coocked. The steak from the kids menu was small and overcoocked (we ordered medium-rare). Food arrived in 5 minutes that means was precoocked. The room was cold because every few minutes someone opened a very noisy back door to access the garden). We were very disappointed and left without ordering the pudding.

Food was excellent and staff service was outstanding and friendly.

Really nice buzzy pub and a great Sunday roast. Let down a bit by the vegan roast not being available, they wouldn’t let us order extra gravy even when we offered to pay for it and then we weren’t allowed to order any dessert “for two hours” Bit weird, but if you can get past it’s a solid roast in a lovely pub! :)

The Florence is a home from home pub - great ambience, delicious food and excellent service, particularly given the number of people they’re looking after. Everyone very welcome - children and dogs too👏😊

Every time I’ve been to The Florence, it’s always been great. The roast was wonderful, kids were more than happy with the burgers and the service was great too. We have a dog and the pub is really dog friendly, so an all round winner! We’ll be back!

Booked at short notice and had prompt response. Very accommodating with two guests with mobility issues. Delightful staff - very helpful and attentive during service. Delicious lunch, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and we look forward to returning to try the roast.

Pasé por este pub en el autobús con mi esposa ayer mientras estaba en el autobús y viendo su impresionante decoración decidimos pasar a tomar una copa al día siguiente. No nos impresionó, me temo. Cuando llegamos un joven estaba sirviendo hasta cinco personas. Cuando llegó el momento de que nos atendieran no se disculpó y prestó poca atención a los detalles. Pedí whisky doble y coca-cola, que por alguna razón se servía en medio vaso con unos minúsculos trozos de hielo. Mi esposa pidió un gin-tonic doble pero ni siquiera le preguntaron qué marca de ginebra quería. La bebida se servía sin hielo y ni siquiera se revolvía. Tuve que convencer a mi esposa para que volviera al bar y les pidiera un agitador e incluso entonces la miraron como si estuviera loca. Todo por 24 libras. Uno se enoja mucho. Si vas a gastar decenas/cientos de miles de libras en aburguesar un pub, al menos ten el servicio para igualarlo. Pero tal vez así es como va el Reino Unido en estos días.

We visited on a busy Saturday evening. The food was absolutely amazing - we both had the steak and chips - highly recommend! The lady who served us was super friendly and efficient even though it was very busy.

Went for dinner late on Saturday night. Even though we booked last minute the staff was very welcoming. The food was great and the service super friendly. It was a nice surprise to find out they have DJs on Friday and Saturday night, we stayed until closing time enjoying the atmosphere and some cocktails. Perfect Saturday night - thanks guys!! ❤️

Almorzamos ayer en Florencia, celebrando el cumpleaños de un amigo! Almorzó en el jardín fue increíble, el sabor de la comida fue increíble, gran ambiente en el jardín, gran servicio y muy eficiente, el joven que nos cuidó fue increíble, creo que su nombre es Ky! The food is outstanding. I'm always nervous about pub roasts... but the ones here are piping hot with decent servings. Really speedy service as well. Staff are great. We've been here a few times, and my only minor issue is that sometimes the music is really loud (way too loud for a Sunday lunchtime). We were there very early so it wasn't busy, which made the music seem even louder. You can't hear each other across the table it's so loud. But the food is really good.

An amazing pub with great atmosphere, service very officiant and friendly and the taste of the food super. I definitely recommen it.

Nos reunimos con amigos en un domingo y el trato que recibimos del personal fue simplemente terrible, muy grosero, antipático, poco acogedor. Asumieron que veníamos del festival que se celebraba en el parque, por lo que se ofrecieron a servirnos bebida en vasos de plástico cuando 1 . el lugar no estaba precisamente ocupado. 2. había vidrios en las mesas. Decidimos que nos quedaríamos adentro así que pedimos que nos sentaran solo para ser despedidos por el personal como si fuéramos solo borrachos. Creo que no puedes tener las dos cosas, no puedes ser abierto y fingir que sirves bebidas adentro cuando en realidad lo que quieres hacer es servir bebidas en vasos de plástico y no molestarte en servir a ningún otro tipo de clientes o no preocuparte por ellos en absoluto; nuestro dinero era tan valioso como el dinero de la gente que asistía al festival; creo que lo que estaba pasando con el personal esa noche, simplemente no podía molestarse, y peor aún estaban siendo respaldados por un gerente que luego se les ocurrió alguna mierda realmente mala * t diciendo que su personal se sentía amenazado (por los clientes , para lo que solo lo hago: mujer, no sabes cómo manejar una crisis. Mis amigos y yo no creemos que vamos a volver allí nunca más, solíamos ser clientes habituales, frecuentamos el lugar casi todas las semanas, pero después de eso no creo que realmente vamos a volver allí, ya que simplemente no está bien.

Shockingly and unbelievably rude and dismissive staff; perhaps they don't need the custom. It's really dispiriting, when you simply want to go to a venue that you enjoy, that the wrong (useless) manager, or staff are on shift. I've tried to be measured in my response; the food was delicious, but some of the staff; vile. The vile individuals should be removed OR, better; managed by people who understand the transaction between venue and customer; they are there to provide a pleasant and enjoyable experience. There is little point to these reviews unless someone, who cares, will respond with an understanding of the importance of the customer experience ..... I will expect a response before I EVER step foot in The Florence again.

When we arrived there was a DJ playing loud music but where we ate was lovely & quiet. The food & service was really good & they made my puppy very welcome. We will definitely return

The food was definitely a cut above the usual (chicory and goats cheese salad). Friendly service, well maintained and pleasant surroundings. Would be nice to see the chefs be more adventurous. Maybe we are the only ones fed up with burgers and fish and chips!

I went to the Florence with my boyfriend for a Sunday roast and couldn't believe how bad it was. I had the veggie roast which was awful complete with a tiny amount of vegetables and my boyfriend had an unimpressive meat roast. This was accompanied with a glass of red wine, a pint and a pudding and the meal came to £80 which was outrageously expensive given the terrible quality of the food. I would NEVER return to the Florence nor would I recommend. If I could give a 0 out of 5 I would.

Went for Sunday Lunch, should have ordered the Pork. The Presentation is great, service good, flavour ok that would have been marked good but the beef was tough and flavourless and food luke warm verging on cold. My partners Pork looked great and by all accounts was pretty good although still could have been warmer. We were given the table next to the glazing that contained the door to tge garden area everytime the door was opened and closed, which was frequent, the noise from tge door banging was so loud it made me jump and shook tge the whole glazed section next to our table. Apart fom that very nice.

2 adults & 2 kids - £90 for 4 Sunday Roast meals with 1 drink each… quality was only average: food needed to be much much hotter and we found a few hairs in our dishes. 1 of us had the veggie roast option which tasted like cardboard. Service was mixed - one local girl was lovely but the two half-Portuguese girls were extremely poor (particularly the one who apparently can’t eat ice cream…). The biggest annoyance was that they put a 12.5% tip on the bill without asking or informing. Nice pub setting but can surely find better for cheaper nearby.

We have been going to The Florence for many years. The food was cooked to order last night and the server was very attentive, yet not imposing. We were in the restaurant and were given a choice of seating which was lovely.

Visited with my husband and dog on Bank Holiday Monday, we both really fancied a Roast and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was on the menu. I had beef and husband had pork, it was delicious, very large portions, I couldn’t eat all mine but it didn’t go to waste! Very accommodating regarding our dog and he was allowed in the restaurant and able to sit on a chair… The staff were a bit grumpy, came across that they didn’t want to be there, but the service was still on point and we would definitely go again!

Great roast today at The Florence, lovely pub with great service. Ana and her team do a great job looking after everyone. Highly recommend it for a couples roast or for larger groups (we were 15 people)

The Florence were excellent hosts for my partners 50th. The food was superb and the space beautiful. All the guests had a fabulous time. Would highly recommend.

We came here for a band meeting. It was the menu that attracted us and the good selection of pints. Catered for vegans and meat eaters which we needed. Food was delicious although they ran out of the pie which I had my eyes on. We went for the vegan platter and tofu fish and chips between my friend and I and it didn't disappoint. Others enjoyed their food, The bar staff are super friendly. Beers were flowing. Not too loud to have a conversation and not to quiet to feel like your at a funeral. What more could you ask for!

Disappointing visit. Large echoey space, which was very noisy, making it difficult to hear. Service very slow - staff friendly but busy. I had fish and chips - soggy batter, good chips, miniscule pots of pease pudding, tartare sauce and some green gunk (blitzed gherkin) - followed by “steam pudding” and custard, which should have been hot, moist and soft. Instead it had a hard crust on the bottom and the sponge was dry because it had been in the oven and had “baked”. Both sponge and pudding were barely warm due to slow service. Even my cappuccino was cool. The ladies toilets were very cold - no heating, no hot water, hand dryer not working. They were clean, so someone checks them. Trendy space in good location, but we won’t be back.

Fun evening of quizzing in a pub with good food and drinks

Used to be a thriving, busy pub had the character knocked out of it now by Greene King, you could be anywhere now. Nice decor, good pint, professional staff and a great menu, tiny bit soul-less and lacking in comfort. Food is consistently good, but a bit pricey. Lunchtimes are not great as tend to be poplulated with scores of mums with buggies, so can get very noisy with the sound of babies and toddlers running round.

On time, excellent meal, attentive waiter. Toilets were very cold although nicely appointed. It's a busy popular pub next to brockwell park, great for the family to get together

The service was very good, very helpful and thoughtful. But I wasn't very impressed with my meal. It was over salted and for a leek and mushroom pie....had to search out the mushrooms.

Food that arrived was very good, however, there were so many items on the menu that were not available and from the drinks they had no breakfast tea. Food took a while to arrive and some of it (the pigs and blanket) were only like warm. It may be that this was a result of New Year’s Day but we had expected a little better. We would still visit again.

A bad night at The Florence. The Sunday roast was about as mediocre as they come and the service was worse. Slow, indifferent and barely competent. Do better than chewy sliced beef, too few potatoes and employees who don’t seem to get it. The Florence is better than that, or at least it was.

I love The Florence.....Amazing atmosphere! Great pub for parties with friends and family! The service and the food was absolutely great! We had such a good time. We are coming back for sure!

Ana and the team were so accommodating and helpful with organising it beforehand, as well as throughout the evening. The food was fab, the space was perfect and the staff were so attentive. It’s such a great pub and couldn’t recommend it more highly! Thanks so much for having us!

We had our work Christmas party here last week and everyone had an amazing night. Live music was definitely an extra bonus. Very easy to book and managers were very accommodating to our needs. Will definitely be back in the New Year. Thank you all again for making our night so special. Helen

Had a lovely Sunday roast at the pub. Staff were great and the roast tasted delicious. They have a really good selection of wine and beers. Will definately return when I am in the area

We had such a poor experience; we waited an hour and a half for our food and then it all came at different times. The food quality was also poor and they had obviously run out of kids burgers so they decided to cut a burger in half and put half a burger in a normal size bun.

The atmosphere in the place was really cozy and welcoming. The great food and service we've received was a cherry on top!

Food wasn’t great and very slow service on a reasonably empty Saturday midday, you’d expect more for the money and the way the menu glamourises the food. Ambience was nice, bar staff friendly, comfortable pub.

I took a group of friends to The Florence on a Saturday having had a really nice meal with my partner on a Wednesday a few weeks prior. What was made crystal clear is that the staffing levels are not sufficient to handle weekend traffic. There were seven of us, including a six week old baby, and we were left waiting more than two hours for our food. Smaller tables were served much more quickly, including the dishes we had ordered a long time before them. One of our table was also entirely forgotten about and had to eat their meal alone after we'd all finished ours. We were offered 20% off the bill, after we complained, but I do not think this sufficient for the poor service that was offered. A more than two hour wait, when staff can see we have a newborn baby, is not acceptable. And giving other tables their food ahead of us, just because they're a smaller table, is also not acceptable. I won't be taking a group of this size to the Florence again as the staffing levels are not sufficient to handle weekend traffic. A shame has the decor is really nice inside and it can handle a small crowd during the week.

The staff were kind, but it was so busy as expected for a Sunday roast. But the food took ages, then my sides were forgotten, the pork was served cold, had to ask for the Yorkshire pudding. Was offered a drink as compensation, that also took over 30 min to be delivered. I used to love this roast but the quality was average. Everyone was very nice but it was slow and issues with our orders and wanted dessert but didn’t order it because there were so many issues.
