Managed to pick one of the few nice days this year (so far) to have a blissful Sunday lunch in the garden. Such friendly service from all the team and another outstanding roast. Couldn’t be more helpful. Perfect way to spend a Summer’s afternoon.

Nice venue but just a shame about a couple of the regulars in there wrecked the experience. Inside these 2 old boys were a bit annoying while I was ordering at the bar. Got my drinks and took them outside where my wife was sitting. Few minutes later they followed and sat at the table behind me. Car drove past playing hip hop and they commented saying ‘stupid Muslim music, it’s not Ramadan’!!!!! Then one pointed at me (I’m half West Indian) and they grabbed their drinks and went back inside. So depending on your background I’d think twice about going

Mothers Day Lunch - super busy and struggling with delays. BUT that happens, and the staff couldn't have been more polite (and open about the wait). The free round of drinks was a super nice touch. The roast is VERY VERY GOOD. A level up in terms of quality, ingredients, size, and taste. Happy Mum and happy Children. Looking forward to seeing this pub continue to build.

This pub is exceptional. Run by the brilliant team from Bishop’s court, they have created an absolute gem (and we’re fussy!) a welcoming atmosphere, great drinks selection and absolutely knock-out pizzas (weeknights and Saturdays) and Sunday roasts. The produce is local and exceptional, the menu is kept short so as to avoid freezing anything and it is all just absolutely perfect. If this was in central Oxford it would have a several week waiting list (and no amazing rural walks beforehand!) Finally, if you like truffle/parmesan and aioli chips, these are amongst the best you’ll have anywhere.

8 of us went to to the Fleur for Sunday lunch following a walk and had a glorious time. 1st time I'd been here in ages and it's obvious the place is under new management. Young friendly bar staff , good beer, excellent food and good reasonably priced wine. The menu is limited to 3/4 choices per course but that's not a problem as by having a smaller menu the kitchen is able to concentrate on delivering quality across all courses rather than offering a myriad of mediocre options. The vegetables were exceptional. No frozen, under seasoned broccoli/cauliflower but beautifully seasoned roasted heritage carrots, roast squash and charred cabbage along with great spuds which set this apart from standard Sunday lunch pub grub. The set price 2 and 3 course menu options are great value and this place is very worth a visit.

Popped in for a quick drink, beautiful from the outside, looked the part in a sleepy historic village. Friendly service from the young lady behind the bar. Disappointed once inside, apart from the nice stone flagged floor, looked far too modern. 'A poor attempt at the period look with 'distressed' wooden tables and chairs and a modern bar. Half hearted attempt at cask ale, and loud-ish music coming from behind the bar. It's sad that the makeover and modern management hasn't done justice to what appears at first glance to be a lovely old pub. Sigh..........

We stayed one night in a double room at the Fleur de Lys because it was the only hotel in Dorchester accepting of a dog. The two members of staff were friendly and welcoming and the only food available - pizza in the garden - was fine. But the room was weird with what looked to be recently acquired furniture so badly placed so that the double (the only bed made up with a duvet) was wedged up against a wall and that being the wall on which the (unviewable)TV was fixed. The headboard of another, smaller double bed was backed tightly up to the windows so that half the curtains were permanently drawn - the other half open revealing a sash window in very poor nick through which the presence of a mismatched bistro set and a bucket for fag ends arranged on a bit of flat roof invited guests to limbo out to enjoy the evening air. Another odd and unnecessary flourish were 5 pictures belonging to at least one, maybe more, earlier decorative scheme(s), hanging randomly in a high up row where they could be viewed from the bed (as the telly could not be, maybe?). We could find no one to speak to in the morning but finally gave the key back to someone who turned up in a car with a few dogs outside in the road who asked us if we’d booked for breakfast. The cost of the room was £135 but, surprisingly enough, this rate did not include breakfast. Really shockingly poor value for a room in an establishment which seems to have completely lost the plot. Unless you have a dog, dont bother.

Small piece of cod on fish and chips order which was poor value at £18. 300% mark up on a bottle of white wine. Wished I had trusted my rule of thumb that weeds growing on an entryway to a pub or restaurant is never a good look and doesnt bode well.

A lovely venue with nice decor and garden but sadly This place missed the mark with us. Our first visit kitchen was closed due to no chef, our most recent visit we ordered a bottle of red for £25 which was just OK, looked up the price it was a 210% mate up on an £8 bottle. £10 for a bloody mary we made ourselves as the person behind the bar (I assume the owner) hadn't made one before. We looked at the menu but £17.50 for a burger plus £2 extra if you wanted cheese was off-putting considering how we were overcharged for the drinks. I understand the pub needs to mark up and make their money but the prices were far too high for what was offered. The place was nearly empty on a sunny Sunday afternoon after an event at the Abbey which is very telling. It's a shame as can't fault the venue but I really hope the owner thinks about pricing better, there are so many beautiful rural pubs in South Oxfordshire that offer better value for money and looking at other reviews we aren't the first to feel let down by the price.

Impromptu visit on a Sunday evening with my girlfriend as we were staying elsewhere in the village. It’s a warm, friendly pub with very personable staff who served us with one of the best pork roasts either of us had eaten in years (we are both food snobs and proud!) and a bread and butter pudding that could only have been produced by an angel. Not the cheapest but unquestionably excellent value for money and a truly lovely experience, if passing through again we would both re-visit without hesitation.

Style over substance. Lovely afternoon beer in an immaculate beer garden so booked for dinner. What a contrast. Food was awful. Salt, salt and more salt. All dishes were terrible. Homemade pie burnt to a crisp. Queued at the bat to start with, staff could only deal with one order at a time. A party of 6 behind walked out not willing to wait. Our waitress was clueless - didn’t know the menu, couldn’t even find buttons on the electronic screen and even asked if wanted a desert after she cleared our starter plates. Owner / manager asked how our meal was, seemed Completely disingenuousness couldn’t see the huge faults in their service. Offered a £5 discount. Like the fact they have have tried a contemporary place to a quiet country village but unfortunately they have no clue how to manage a kitchen or a successful bar. Stay clear!

Dropped in here as we saw some good reviews a s thought it would be a lovely treat on our drive back to London - how wrong we were! The Caesar salad had day old dry chicken, and squishy soft croutons instead of fresh ones. How anyone can get something as simple as a Caesar salad wrong was beyond us. We informed the staff who made a second plate and half way through eating a hair was found nestled in the salad which completely put us off the whole meal. The burger was somewhat better but the chips were delivered in a beetroot stained, dirty cup, you could see the fingerprints of the person who had used it previously. The couple next to us also expressed their disappointment in their meal as an elderly pensioner described the lobster as the worst he'd eaten in his life. We would not recommend anyone to come here after our awful experience. Management made little effort to apologise and didn't even offer to dock money off the bill, which we would have refused as we are willing to support businesses after Covid, but the gesture and some effort to make amends for such an awful experience would have been welcomed.

We stayed recently with friends and generally had an enjoyable stay. Rooms were well appointed and breakfast was good. A couple of minor things, firstly we were told what time our breakfast would be served rather than being asked (there were no other guests for our first 2 nights) Secondly, our rooms were serviced during breakfast and were never finished once we'd finished eating. We therefore had to wait at the table until the rooms were done. This was very unusual as normally rooms are serviced after customers have left for the day. It also meant that once we were able to return to our rooms the cleaner had only just left. Under the current Covid restrictions (and having stayed at a number of establishments through the summer where it was explained that due to the situation, rooms were not serviced which we understood) this was maybe not the best arrangement.

First time I've paid to stay at a Hotel / Quest House / B & B and didn't get a wink of sleep all night! Thanks mainly to the Abbey clock across the road ringing its bells loudly every 15 minutes and at the top or the hour it's enough to wake the dead. On top of that the outside lights were blazing in to our window like a sun on steroids completely defeating the ill fitting curtain. The room had a sloping floor and a sloping bed with one leg propped up with a toilet roll? I had to lie down at the bottom of the slope to prevent the Mrs from falling out of bed. The bathroom & room was clean but no toiletries offered so don't forget your shampoo & shower gel. I would guess the current owners are new to any kind of customer service environment because there was precious little on show. Breakfast was a little underwhelming but just about o.k. Its a quirky place not without potential but the owners have to do a lot of improving if repeat custom is to be achieved. This is a review of the establishment as a Guest House / B & B not a review of the restaurant.

The room was a good size with a comfortable bed and with a view of the Abbey over the road. The en suite had a large roll top bath but no shower curtain, so the shower was a little bit of a juggle. The breakfast was of a really good meal to start the day and the service was helpful and friendly. it looks like the bar is opening again and will make this a welcoming place to stop at in the future I imagine.

The Bar Tender shift changed, and a young man took over the bar. Unfortunately, this man turned the misc on, real load! This dude was very successful in clearing the pub out, as the guests, one by one, started to leave! What some pub staff do not seem to understand is that most people would prefer to be able to have a conversation, over a few drinks, and most people do not go to pubs to listen to load music, specially in scenic and quiet little towns such as Dorchester!

Stayed on a Monday night. No food served on Monday!! Small room, low ceiling, creaky floorboards, but full of character. Typical English country pub. Pleasant staff. Great breakfast. Great place. Convenient for Oxford, Didcot and Abingdon. I will be back.

My wife and I chose the Fleur de Lys because of the impressive menu on their website. However, we didn’t notice that it said ‘sample menu’, when in fact the food on the night was completely different and much more basic. The burger was ok but still raw in the middle. It came back having been cooked a little more but still served on the same blood-soaked bun. A pint of beer was £3.80, which seemed a little expensive for the area. All in all a big disappointment and no apologies from the staff for the raw burger.

Have had a gorgeous lamb Sunday roast dinner with friends from overseas on 15 July, and was so impressed I came back with family and dog the next Sunday! Service was friendly and attentive, and they were very good about accomodating complex, multiple food allergies. The lamb on the first occasion was divine, accompanied by equally celestial roast parsnips and carrots, nicely caramelised. My guests loved the mammoth sharing Yorkshire pudding, and the vegetarians had a dreamy look as they tucked into their portobello mushrooms stuffed with goat cheese and sundried tomatoes, topped by a pesto crust. Proper, fluffy, fresh, chunky chips. Unpretentious, proper pub atmosphere, music not too loud, loos clean, kind to humans and dogs, big garden, and parking-- who could ask for anything more?

We just dropped into this place on our way through the area. A very clean and smart pub with a nice choice on the menu , all at a reasonable price . Quite a large beer garden with plenty of tables and a children's play area , although be warned it is a bit of a step from the bar area so would not advise leaving the little ones unattended .

Visited Thursday for an evening meal after finding out that the original manager/chef Will had returned, and was far from disappointed! The food was excellent from presentation to taste. We will definitely be reoccurring customers from now on. There was also advertisements up for a Wednesday night supper, a set meal for only £7!!! which we will have to go to soon! So happy that the food and management is back to its full potential at the fleur.

I ordered the veggie boat, which is a huge homemade Yorkshire pudding sitting in the smallest amount of gravy possible. Filled with raw parsnips, which I guess were frozen, carrots and potatoes, and what I can only guess was cauliflower cheese! At the cost of £11.00. The staff were acted as though it was their first day. When we asked to see the sweet menu we were given hand written scraps of paper! We met friends with dogs at the pub and as a visiting guest from afar, I was very disappointed.

Planned a post concert family dinner for my wife’s 50th birthday on Saturday night. Booked first by phone, then confirmed by email. Finally my wife went in at lunchtime on the day to confirm the food order in advance. At every stage the time booked was 9pm. We arrived at 9.05 to be told that the chef had gone home at 9, and that they had recorded our booking as 8pm! After the 3 stage booking process, that was extraordinary, but the apology was cursory. There was no suggestion of any attempt to find an alternative for us; we were just lucky that the George looked after us splendidly. The management of the Fleur is clearly a shambles. Very disappointing.

My Mother lives in the village and my wife suggested we went for Sunday lunch at the fluer as we had been before and it was very good( my wife is quite fussy about her food). When we arrived the place was empty which was unusual as it was always packed, it was a nice day so a few people were sat outside. We got drinks and took a menu, before it was written on the board above the fire. We had 2 roast beef, 1 slow cooked lamb, 2fish and chips and a burger. We waited about 30 mins, my wife’s lamb was very rare for slow cooked lamb which would be well done and falling apart, she sent it back to be recooked. My beef was alright the vegetables and sides were very average. My mum ate very little of hers, the children ate there’s. We asked for a dessert menu which looked like it was quickly hand written, we passed and got the bill which was £95, very pricey for the quality and the drinks £7 for a glass of wine. We had taken people before who had said it was the best Sunday roast they had out. We latter found out a local hotel had taken over the pub for a trail period. We will not be returning!!!

Myself and my partner stay here every 3/4 months on a Saturday night and it’s always amazing! The staff are lovely and friendly, the rooms are clean and tidy with all the basic amenities and the baths are beautiful! We’ve only got one room left and then we’ve stayed in them all! Will is the owner and is very hands on, he cooks all the food which is always delicious, couldn’t fault anything! Would highly recommend the lemon chicken and duck spring roll starter, never had anything like it before! Can’t wait for our next visit!

Came here with my family to celebrate my wife's birthday prior to Christmas. Not surprisingly the bar area at the front was busy with locals. Therefore as there were only two ladies behind the bar we had to wait a few minutes to be served and then confirm our table at the rear of the pub. The eating area was quite cosy, but looked festive with a big Christmas tree. It was a shame the fire wasn't on as a finishing touch.

Four of us had dinner on a Friday early evening. The haddock fish cakes were very good as was the pork belly. The deserts were OK but the ice cream should have been home made and it was not and it was not great. The young waitress was very nice. The more mature lady running the bar needs to be more welcoming and try and smile. Businesses get repeat customers when people feel appreciated. The pub is in need of some upgrading but go for the food and not the service. Please also clean up the area behind the toilet building. Not a good look!

Lovely quaint bar and restaurant in a nice little picturesque village. We went for an evening meal on a Saturday and the menu choice was extensive. The service was quite slow as there were not many staff working but we were not worried. When the food arrived it certainly was worth the wait. I opted for the Pastrami Beef Wellington with Celeriac Puree, Dauphinoise Potato, Mange Tout & Red Wine Jus which was absolutely delicious. My friend had the fillet steak and she too thoroughly enjoyed it

I had a late lunch in The Red Lion this lunchtime. First time I had been in the pub in 5 years but with new management and hearing great things since the new owners took over I was keen to give it a try. Bar staff were very welcoming to me and my Cavapoo. Lovely friendly atmosphere and spotlessly clean. I ordered a scampi, fries and peas. It was delicious and too much for me to finish it. I will definitely be back soon with the family 👍🏼

We have always liked the food and service in Harvesters. Always been loyal customers. However, our most recent experience was not great at all. The place was busy, the salad bar was quite empty and the food took a much longer time to arrive which we could excuse as a one-off. But some of the food was not cooked through unfortunately, which believe it or not, again we sort of excused as staff apologised and replaced it. What we cannot overlook however was the menu has changed and unfortunately all the tasty parts of the food have been replaced with hard, tasteless freezer food. Prices have gone up too, which is understandable but they should not have messed with the quality of the food. The chicken, the hash browns were not soft and succulent as before. The nice onion ring was replaced by hard and cold cheese jalapeño rings. Totally different food experience now. We are not going to go back in a hurry, let's just say. Really sad as we did like frequenting it over the last few years.

I love this place, I hate the fact that people treat restaurant like this as a sandwich place where they can get their food in 5 min, must change your mentality otherwise use Waitrose or get your pack lunch and sit on the main site, always happy to be here, very friendly people and delicious food, will always come back.
